My big question has always been how in the world do you defend shallow drags from the slot in Cover 1? Say the Y is set up inside the numbers, so your nickel is using outside leverage to funnel to the high safety. This allows an easy shallow inside release. Is it just down to having an athletic nickel to make up distance?

I prefer pressing as often as possible when you're in the slot in Man coverage (too easy to throw that quick shallow or slant from the slot vs off coverage without playing heavy inside).
But remember, it's not only outside leverage, it's also low leverage, meaning you're taking away the short stuff and giving up the deep post/seam to the deep safety.
If you play like the CB is playing at 6:49 you should be able to stop the shallow. It gets tough though when they're in stack or bunch inside the numbers because then you have to play off to avoid picks.
I'm thinking of doing a video on pick plays and that kind of stuff in the future :)
