    This is how you put it all together with film this teaches people how to identify this coverage and more

      Yup! In its simplest form it’s very easy to identify! Harder once teams are advanced and players are advanced! But in its simplest form! Real easy!

    Hey GQ, when calling the defensive play, how much of it is situation (down and distance) vs. how much is tape and scouting? I assume its a combination of the two but I'm curious how a set gets called?
    Also how did you go career even leading the NFL in picks and not get the nickname... The Glove? it seems perfect for a DB and obviously is a nice play on your name.

    • @thedbroom
      @thedbroom  4 года назад +2

      Ha lots of people called me Glove and The Glove! I wasn’t big enough to get a national nick name!!
      As far as the play calling, I think it’s a mixture of everything! Coverages your team plays well! Tendancies of the offense, game situation as well!! Tune in to the show with coach Caldwell on Thursday maybe he will talk about it!

    @thedbroom Coach/Anyone is under coverage taught to tip the ball in the air so that shell coverage can get interceptions? Or what situations are ideal to tip the ball in the air? I was always taught to knock the ball down.

    If your best example of everyone doing their job defensively against the rush is an 11 yard loss, I am not fundamentally convinced by the soundness of this front. It seems to me that on potential rushing downs, it would be better to have a safety cheat up a little to create more of a 4-2-5 look. You could, for example, bring the left safety up 5-6 yards looking like he is playing off man coverage on the split end and shift the OLB inside. That gives you an extra box defender while still being sound against the pass and also giving the OL an additional blitz threat to reckon with.
    On your 87 cross play, I am not sure if I agree with the analysis. The DBs are essentially 3v3 on that side (and 2v2 deep) so it seems to me that the weak side safety should be looking for the deep cross and providing inside help. He is just too shallow here, otherwise it would be excellent coverage.

    Love your videos. Just a question on the 87 route. You were saying that sometimes the defence play it so the safety follows the 2 into the corner route and the corner will follow the 1 in the post. Do you think this is what happens here but the corner just played the post badly?

    Some of these DBs need to get in the film room with GQ because he's exposing a few of them 😁

    Have you ever considered, moving the FS to a middle 3rd, then allowing the SS to roam, or fill in zone for a blitzing linebacker??

    • @ericjohnson4877
      @ericjohnson4877 3 года назад

      The primary trouble that cover 3 has is handling 4 verticals. The middle safety can't cover both seam routes, and the corners are usually playing the #1 receivers to each side. The only way to play cover 3 is to pattern match to defend 4 verticals.

    Hey GQ, I love your method. I would like very much to have you do a play-by-play analysis of the Super Bowl. Please let me know if you are interested in such a proposal.

    On 87 switch if he doesn’t bite then they just throw the corner so what should he do if you didn’t quite like what he did on that play

  • @snootycapybara3683

    After watching the basics of coverages with you GQ, I have another question. As a DB, in a perfect world, would you prefer to have everybody in the right position and keep the QB from throwing the ball entirely and generate more sacks? Or would you prefer to 'loosen up' a little bit and and let the QB throw more passes against you to generate more INTs? I know they preach making a team one dimensional, so I guess I wanna know which option you guys like better, no run game or no pass game?

    • @thedbroom
      @thedbroom  4 года назад +2

      Well the thing is if you loosen up, the QBs are going to eat you alive! You want to disguise coverages and be where you suppose to be! The more advanced in what you are doing the more you can get the QB to throw the ball! But slot of times these QBs read what coverage you are playing, know where they suppose to throw the ball in that coverage and that’s what they do! Up to the dB to make a play!

    • @snootycapybara3683
      @snootycapybara3683 4 года назад

      Can't wait to get into the more advanced strategies you guys learn. Makes me curious, when you play a QB that has seen it all, like Favre, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc. how do coordinators come up with a look or a play that those guys truly have not seen in a game or on film before? Seems impossible!

    • @thedbroom
      @thedbroom  4 года назад

      There are ways to fool those guys! Just got to be smart and have a plan!!

    I love watching but don’t play football so I don’t always get the intricacies of tdefensive and offensive schemes. I think the biggest thing I want to know is A) how to create mismatches and B) how to adjust to mismatches if you’re on defense).

    How bout on the next one do a video of how to play cover 6 and film review of cover 6?

    • @thedbroom
      @thedbroom  4 года назад +3

      After cover 4 all the other coverages are combination coverages so cover 6 may be different everywhere! So generally cover 6 is a form of cover 2 on one side and cover 4 on the other side! Is that a type of coverage you talking about??
