  • Troy-Bilt TB230B XP lawmower does not start. Carburetor cleaning is always the place to start with these Briggs and Stratton E-Series engines with the plastic carburetor.

    There is also an automatic choke problem with these. While still mounted to the engine some of the chokes will rub the inside left housing and plastic needs to be filed down a little to operate smoothly. Also, the jets work better drilled out to about .020 and won't clog as easily. Check videos from "Steves small engine saloon" for details......well worth it.

    Looked like maybe a Widow running around near the exhaust when you fired it up the 1st time ... around 1:25

    Is there a special allen tool to enable you to remove the drain screw on the bottom of the carb. bowl to drain the gas out for winter storage?

    I have this carbuerator on a Yard Machines mower. I took it off and cleaned it but it still won't start. I will try it again with carb cleaner. One guy told me l just need to order a new carbuerator.

    • @thesmallenginerepairguy
      @thesmallenginerepairguy  11 месяцев назад

      Have you confirmed it is a carburetor issue? Will it run if you squirt fuel into the intake? There are a couple of variations to this model engine so make sure you order the correct one.

      @@thesmallenginerepairguy This is a 2014 Yard Machines mower with the Briggs and Straton engine. I am going to clean it again exactly as you did with the carb cleaner. It cranked with starter fluid then stopped. If it still doesn't work l will order a new one.

      @@thesmallenginerepairguy Thanks. I tried cleaning the carburetor again with carb cleaner like you did. It still won't run. I don't get it. It looks perfectly fine but it just won't stay running for more than a few seconds. I was going to order a new carburetor, but l can't find the right part number for it. How do l find it? I don't have the owner's manual. There are stickers on the mower with numbers but none correspond to the numbers on the websites.

    Wondering if an Allen wrench can be used on the recessed nut at bottom of carb bowl to loosen & drain bad gas wout removing stuff?

    • @thesmallenginerepairguy
      @thesmallenginerepairguy  11 месяцев назад

      It's not so much the bad fuel you need to remove, rather the clog in the jets. That requires the removal of the carburetor and bowl.

      @@thesmallenginerepairguy Thanks I realize that , but my question is specifically ... Can that recessed nut on the bottom of the carb be loosened to drain it? ... like other carbs that just have a normal nut --- which can be loosened w a wrench?

    What if it doesn’t start after you squirt a little fuel to the intake? Does that mean I need a new spark plug?

    • @thesmallenginerepairguy
      @thesmallenginerepairguy  11 месяцев назад

      Nope. Actually it means your ignition system (including the spark plug) is in working order. Your issue is the fuel delivery system (carburetor and fuel). Try cleaning the jets.
