    I have never replaced a movement before, but I need to do it for my watch that was a ST1901 chronograph movement. Do you think that's a bit too much for a beginner?
    🤔 I also have a watch with a misbehaving NH35, so maybe it would be better to start with that...
    (Also, just an FYI: The singular form of the word "indices" is actually "index", not "indice" 🙂)

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  3 месяца назад

      I would definitely start off with NH movement rather than ST. Good luck with the crusade to abolish the word "indices" 😆

    • @JoeyTen
      @JoeyTen 3 месяца назад +2

      @@watchify1775 lol noo "indices" is totally correct; it's the plural of "index". It's "indice" (without the "s") that is wrong.
      Anyway, thanks for the advice and the video 🙂 I'm gonna order an NH35A movement

    Great vid! It really helped me out a lot! I didn't see a link for the hand mounting tool in the description. Is it a specific brand? It definitely looks nicer than the basic tools I've come across on Amazon.

      Thanks! The tool I used to apply the hands did come from amazon. I bought www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0748HZTMH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but am only using the plunger part. I prefer these better though www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PVPJ44Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
      In the video the springbar remover is a higher quality Bergeon that I paid around 30$ for.

    Hi, I really enjoyed you video. I have a watch my father gave me when I was 21.It wasn't apparently a very expensive watch. I haven't really worn the watch as it never kept running. I'm 73 now and it has been sitting in my jewelry box for 52 years. It has an automatic movement. The only reason I sill have it is that my father had it engraved to me on the back. I like the face and the case of the the watch also. I would like to war it. Is it possible to replace the movement in any watch. What would i need to know to get the correct movement and where would I get one from? Is it easy for a complete novice to do if I get the tools you recommend?

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  2 года назад

      Sorry - I'm only familiar with more modern movements. I would suggest you google the watch model to find the movement caliber and see if they are still for sale and able to be replaced. I understand the watch has sentimental value but I would still be curious to see how much it is worth in as-is condition since it is so old. Some older watches are quite valuable and replacing the movement would ironically lower the value. Generally speaking, yes, with basic tools you can replace most watch movements. They sell inexpensive kits on amazon. You might also want to contact this youtuber to see if he would be interested in taking on the challenge of repairing the watch. He seems like a good guy. ruclips.net/user/WristwatchRevivalabout

    When you change the movement that little rotating gear cannot be change ?? If the original movement has a stainless gear and if you put a new movement with colorful gear that cannot be change ??? Im referring that gear we use to rotate the hands tnx

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  Год назад

      I think you mean the rotor. Yes, they can be interchanged if the movements involved are the same model or family of models. Example a rotor from a 4R36 movement can work with another 4R36, a 4R35, NH36, NH35, 4R34. There is just a tiny screw in middle holding it in place.

    Does the minute and hour hands have to be in a specific spot for the second hand placement? And should I stop the movement to place the hands?

    • @watchify1775

      No. For second hand placement it doesn't matter. Movement doesn't have to be stopped to place hands.

      Thanks for posting this. I have just found out that it will cost almost double the price of a brand new 2824-2 movement to have my Mühle glashütte serviced.
      Therefore I think I would like to swap out the movement myself.
      It looked like you were using an LED magnifying glass rather than a loop.
      Would you recommend this and what type was it.
      Thanks...Jim

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not sure what movements that watch would use. I'm only familiar with 4R/6R/NH movements which are almost universal to Seiko and many micro brands. I don't need to measure since I'm replacing with a movement in same family.

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  Год назад

      usually the case back will tell you what movement came with the watch. If not, you could open the case back and take a look at the movement itself. Googling is very helpful once you have a few bits of info

      Probably a NH35/36, Myota, PT500 sw2000. Those are the most common.

    • @watchify1775
      @watchify1775  Год назад

      If the watch is inexpensive, may make more sense to just purchase a whole new watch. Otherwise you can google the watch brand\model to try to get info on the movement inside.
