I’ve commented on another video but just to say the fantastic macro shots, the coloured highlights, your attention to detail and your ability to explain things simply make this a perfect instructional video for, what is, quite a daunting process for a novice. The best video I’ve seen on this subject by a big margin. Thanks!
one of the best layouts for any instructional video ive ever seen! Very easy to follow and understand with precise descriptions and well edited video. bravo!
This is the BEST watch tutorial I have ever seen. This is exactly what a tutorial presentation should be, explain well and indicate well in the video. Thank you so much for the video. You are the BEST.
thank you for what is undoubtedly the epitome of Instructional videos. I was able to complete my task with confidence and learned many things while doing so. As a DIY type of person I appreciate your hard word and dedication and wish all creators of such videos would give half the effort. Thank you Sir
I replaced the movement in my swiss army watch in about hour with the help of this video. Delicate work but only cost me $15 for the ronda and $5 for the tool... thank you!
Excellent video on Hand setting. This is a task in watchmaking that is easily made a mess of so your instructions are spot-on and informative for the new(and old) watchmakers.
Thank you, I am but a lowly bench jeweler and one of my associates knocked off the minute hand while trying to change a battery. Thankfully i was able to make versions of the tools you showed and got the hand on and aligned. Thanks again
That's a really well put together video. I like the use of colour to clearly show each part. I recently sold a watch but one of the crono hands fell off during transit. This may help repair it when I get it back.
Hello, I’ve now installed the hands and all good, the only thing is I’d say is DONT install the H&M hands at 12 when the day/date changes, reason is (as I’ve now discovered) the day/date starts to change around 11:20/11:30 so it’s all transitioning and muddled when it’s still the same day, far better would be to wind on a few turns after the day/date changes then install the H&M at 12, that way the day/date will change about 1am - 2am or whatever, when most people are asleep, people are still awake at 11:30 and it’s annoying to have the day/date unreadable, I’m going to have to take the movement out again and try to slide the hands round a bit to rectify this, I really don’t want to dislodge the hands or bend them in any way though as it’s a really difficult job to get all 3 to miss each other as they spin round, so yeah my tip is DONT install the hands at 12 when the date transitions but to give the crown a few more turns, Seiko do this themselves for the very reason I mention above, cheers 👍🏻
It's mostly the same except 1. chronograph hands are tighter 2. there are more alignments to take care of depending on the functions of the chronograph
Thank you so much for sharing your excellent presentation! May i please ask you whether you use the same hand installation tool number to install the three hands or you change the number of the tip in each one? Again, thank you
We use a double tip installation tool in this video. One bigger tip on one end and a smaller tip on the other end. So it's the same tool but different tips.
Hi, thanks for the great videos. I really would like to try building my own watch, but I would like to see a Miyota 9015 kit. Are there plans for one? Or can a 9015 fit in the same case as the 8315?
This should be good for most hour, minute, and second hands: shop.diywatch.club/collections/watchmaking-tools/products/set-of-2-watch-hand-install-setting-tools
I have a seiko solar diver and the second hand is not aligned with the chapter ring hash marks. Can I adjust the position of the second hand without removing it from the dial? How would u recommend I align it?
You can't align it without removing it. The alignment is set when it's installed. Luckily, it's not that hard to remove the hand, check out this guide: ruclips.net/video/sukKH_S4gig/видео.html
Thank you for your videos. I successfully replaced the hands on my dad’s watch as well as a new movement. Then I had to remove the winding stem to re-case it and bent the second hand 😮. How do I not do that again and how do I order new hands?
Well... just be more careful next time. See what angle you were recasing it and how and where the second hand was bent, and try not to do that next time. Hands are movement-specific. So simply search for the hands for your movement. If it is a common movement you should be able to buy new hands for it. Good luck.
I’m just trying to do some DIY work on an old watch I found on eBay. I was able to set the hands with nothing but two pairs of needle nose tweezers, using two pairs tweezers to gently pry the hands off instead of the dedicated tools you used, and was able to set the hands by using the tweezers to gently push down on it.
@@timmcdonald5335 you can try esslinger.com but you'll need to know the exact dimension of the hands you need. They have a watch part enquiry form that might be of help to you. Good luck!
On my quartz watch the minute hand is slightly off, i.e. when the minute hand is pointed at "12" the hour hand is not exactly pointed at the hour. Can I simply nudge it to the correct position without removing the hands? Thanks for your advice on this.
If i remove my automatic or manual watch second hand completely, will it ruin its accuracy? And what can i do to cover the hole thats is left after the removal of second hand, it looks ugly
Lol this is complete coincidence but we literally just published a new expanded guide on how to install GMT hands, go check it out: ruclips.net/video/Ved5tCnRx_Q/видео.html
@@michaelcabunoc7318 Is it bent downward where the hand meets the center circle? If so, a possible reason is that during installation, you pressed down too hard with the hand installation tool
Oops sorry missed your question! As long as the hand isn't loose, it usually isn't something to worry about. It could simply be the effect of the gears being engaged when the crown is pushed in

From what I've seen by far the best video I've seen on this subject. I'm about to swap an NH36 into an SKX.
Good luck! You'll love that new NH36 in your SKX ;)

Are all watch hand sizes the same?? I’m not talking about the length I’m talking about the little whole that u have to fit in the middle??
No. They are specific to the movement.
Are the hands shown in the video original Seiko hands?
Thanks
Good question! Actually they are our own C3 lume hands. You can buy them here: shop.diywatch.club/collections/watch-hands/products/diver-hands-seiko

Yes. Those 6 pins are usually there to cater for different movements. Find the two that you need and cut the rest
