Oh my gosh, I finally did it! Thank you for the realistic approach to the second hand. I have been trying for 2 days without loosing my patience and I even bought a $250 microscope to get it right and your way had the second hand on in 5 minutes! I used a piece of rodico and made a hole in it to put the tip of the second hand in and then sat it on the movement holder. I was able to manipulate the hand just right and it popped right on. Just a nudge here and a nudge there and then checked the overhead view in the microscope. Then I just pressed with tool and I was done. Thank you so much.

Probably the best video for a beginner to watch. Watch this. Watch it again. Then see how to do it properly.
The thin ring does go on the movement between itself and the dial. It is a spacer so the date ring can move freely. Dont need this on a NH seiko. Toothpick works well with the putty. Or coffee stirring sticks. If you let the movement run when putting the seconds hand on you will know for sure you are on the post and not on the minute hand. The seconds hand can fit next to the post and as you know will bend the post if you try and install it like this. If your sitting on the post properly when the movement is running it will move around the dial. If it doesn’t move then its most likely not sitting on the post. Also the hand setting tools that you hold in your fingers are actually easier to use than the press. Plus if you need to get the hands more parallel the hand tool lets you manipulate the hands with out bending the hands. Definitely the nh is the easiest movement to start with. Less steps needed to get cased up. Easy to get running accurate. I normally set them about 2 seconds fast in the upright position. It will run about 2 seconds slow during the day and if you take it off at night and sit it upright at night it will catch up. Its a balancing act. They will run much better than the stated specs. Once again great video to watch first.

My biggest question/problem is inner diameter of hands in non common watch movements. Even if you can find some data for them (movements), hand suppliers don't offer much info. Still i doubt you'll find data in the first place, meaning the diameter of hands on each movement... As an example, i'd like to change hands in a solar Pulsar (lume sucks, not style of'em), searched but still in doubt to do.
Rest is practice, like sex, can go well right from the start, later... or never! Just practice... (your???) hands!!! LOL
Oh, and mind more the second hand, always tricky!!! hahahaha
