    Nice Video! As an update with XLights you don't need to do any of this as when you setup the controllers you can give XLights full control and it will automatically set the number of universes and all settings for the Falcon F16. There is an upload input and output function that will set your E131 and String ports, brightness, Gamma, Null pixels etc. without ever doing what you are showing. Also you this is so much easier than doing this manual stuff. It was needed a year ago but not anymore with XLights the Visualizer and Full Control of your controller allows all of your setup and model chaining to be done automatically. I have a 20K RGB show and all is configured by XLights with 3 - F16's, 1 - F48 and 15 Long Range smart receivers. You also need to discuss voltage drop and banking that can limit the number of pixels the F16 can control. Great fundamentals for people to understand as you presented. Glad you are sharing your experiences. ruclips.net/video/LwQq80OgH9w/видео.html

    Such a great video! Just a heads up the terminology of channels, universes and so on comes from the theatre / live production world where we use DMX and art net to control professional lighting fixtures. A single run of DMX is known as a universe. In the theatre lighting world each universe can provide 512 channels of control. The falcon controller actually supports DMX output on the RJ45 connections to the right hand side of the board. This makes integrating professional lights super easy too!

    This is very new to me. The way you present things helps me to understand the relationship between xlights and the Falcon controller. I followed your examples and had lights blinking. Felt good. I started to work with the visualizer and upload to the controller and screwed my head up a little. Any thoughts on using the Visualizer to set things up?

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  3 года назад

      Hey brohren, Good to know that things are working out for you. Thanks for watching my videos. The visualizer is a great tool to setup your elements is a quick and simple way. But it will overwide your old settings, so be careful when doing the "Upload Output". I do not use the "Upload Inputs" since I already have them all set.
      Once you click the "upload output" just go into your controller and refresh your Output string ports. Remember that every element that you add to a port have to be connected in a sequential way. Up to 1024 pixels. Also keep in mind that you will have to inject power to these elements, so the more you linked together the more places you need to inject in. So the position of the power supplies would matter. Good luck, seems like you are progressing fast.

If you are using a wall wart keep in mind that the F16V3 is also sending power to the led strings connected to it. To give you an idea of the wattage needed for a power supply, the other day I had 880 pixels doing a sequence and I was metering a current of around 4 amps (4 amps x 12volts = 48 watts)

    Awesome video thank you! Newbie here, Question for you, when you upload your sequences in Xlights to your controller via FPP connect, are you uploading your FSEQ files to your FPP (PI) and falcon player or just one of them? Im being told that adding your PI to controllers in XLights is fairly new so it may be messing me up, thank you again!

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Tony, First of all thank you very much for watching my videos. Just one clarification here. The FPP and the Falcon Player are the same thing (FPP = Falcon Pi Player). I think you meant Falcon Controller (like F16V4). Good question. The F16V4 can be setup to be a player itself, which means that it is going to host the sequences and the music and running the pixels(lights). The Falcon Controller (F16V4) has a very light version of a Falcon Player for this purpose. On the other hand some people (including myself) had chosen to use a PI or Beaglebone to run a more robust and capable player called FPP or Falcon Player to Host the sequences and Music to act as a player and send the data to Falcon Controller(F16V4). It hard to tell you how powerful the FPP running on a PI is compare to just a player on the F16V4. Now, when you run a show, there can only be one player (Most common settings) either your FPP running on a PI or the Player inside the F16V4. So long story short when you upload a sequence it can only be uploaded to one player device. On my website "trevilights.com", you can book some time with me. We can discuss all this over a Zoom videoconference. Good Luck.

I’ve been reading about both but the only difference is F48 you can use 12 controller with it and is good for long range. Do you have a video on the boards? Hey John. It's a hard call. Both are almost the same . You can't go wrong with any. If you have the need for long distance form controller to elements then the F48 is what you need. Keep in mind that you will also have to purchase a Smart Reveicer for every port you use and also a separate power supply since the controller would not supply power to the ports. Beside that they are both capable of 16000+ pixel. I went with the F16V3 because all mi props are close by. And you meant the F16V3 not V2, correct?

I would need a little help regarding the f16v3 controller, can I connect one part in 12 volts and the other in 5volts, I don't understand at the level of the jumpers and if you will have videos how to create a sequence.
    bonne journée.

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  3 года назад

      Hi Jean-Claude. The jumper selection can be confusing. But is a few words this is what you can do. The controller comes setup for 12v from the supplier. In the both of the bottom corners you will find two green connector were you connect the power supply. They are labeled V1 (left) and V2 (right). The V1 supplies power for port 1 to 8 and the V2 for port 9 to 16.
      NOTE: The V2 connector also power the controller itself. So what you can do (without having to change any jumpers) is to connect a 12v power supply to V2 and a 5v power supply to V1. So now port 1-8 are 5V and 9-16 are 12v. Note that the polarity changes between V1 and V2. The positive is on the outer side.

    I hope this isn’t a dumb question but here we go, I’ve done a lot of led work as far as RGB, so yes, each color takes a channel, and if you buy RGBW or RGBWW, then 4 or 5 channel, but isn’t the point of individually addressable to control each led with its own address and have it read data and set its color and brightness by that? Maybe the video answers this question so maybe I shouldn’t have commented until after I watched it all.

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  Год назад +1

      Hi there. The WS2811 pixels have 3 single colored led inside (RGB). So only 3 channels are required. With the combination of brightness you can come up with al the colors. When data is sent to a string of pixels, the first pixels takes the first 3 channels of data and sends the rest to the next pixels and so on. When you setup a pixels controller, you need to specify which type of pixels you are using, this will let the controller know how many channels are needed to control that specific type of pixels.

    How would I configure ports on my F16V3 for a pixel tree that has 30 strings of 100 pixels? Each port will be connected to 2 strings that are folded in the middle. So that will take up 15 ports and the star will take up the 16th port. I cannot figure it out. Would I have to make virtual strings?

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  3 года назад +1

      Hey Gabriel. So you will use 3000 pixels. Each port in the F16V3 can take 1024, so my recommendation is use 3 port of your controller with 1000 pixels each. So port one will control 10 stands, port two anothe 10 strands and the 3rd port the last 10 strands. Virtual strings are optional. It is only a way of organizing the strands. That's it.
      In xlights the Mega tree will be configured as follows. 3 string, 1000 per string in a zig zag pattern using 10 strands.

      Hey Stephen. Today I have v2.59 and still it takes 1024 pixels per port. Do you have extension boards? In the String port configuration string page the Port Mode dropdown fields should be set to Main Board Only. If you set it to have 1 or 2 expansions then the number of pixels per port will change. I've noticed that if you change this setting and the you reverse it to be Main board only it will not recover and the number of max pixels per port will not be reset. I was playing with this setting and messed it up. The only way to set it back is doing a Factory Reset. Try it. You should be able to have 1024 pixels per port with no expansion board. You will loose all setting when doing a Factory reset, even the LAN setting so be aware of this. This was the only way it worked for me. Good Luck. Thanks for watching.

    I am still confused. What is a 'universe'. Universe and channel are not interchangeable as in Falcon controller page it asks for 'Start Channel # and Start Universe #. Can you plaese explain the difference? There are ports (f48v4 has 48 ports). We can add maximum of 510 'channels or 170 pixels to each port. So what is the universe? Because of F48v4 as 48 ports and 192 universes.

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  2 года назад

      I know is confusing, so let do one thing. First of all in your pixel port page, set the view to be "Absolute Addressing". This will remove the Universe out of this page. You do not need it. The universe thing is mostly used in the DMX world, so it is not very useful for our light show. Now talking about universes, is just a way of group channels. A universe takes 510 channels or 170 pixels (510 Channels divided by 3 led RGB each).The initial definition of these universes in your controller is important since this is how the devices will make sure they are talking to each other using the same channel size. Once you set it up, usually there is no need to change it. The F16V4 has 16 port out of the box, each can take 1024 pixels or 3072 channels (1024 x 3 R,G and B) for a total of 3072 channels. Multiply 3072 x 16 port = 49,152. Divide this by 510 channels that a universe is made of and you get 96 universes. If you add an expansion board then you get another 16 ports which equals the double of universes (192). Again, forget about universes. Just think of channels. Each pixel takes 3 channels. Have fun.

Once you plug it, if it's network setting are set to DHCP then your controller should display it's IP address that it got from the router in the small OLED display. Then you should be able to get to it by opening a browser in your computer and typing it's I address.

      @trevilights  7 месяцев назад

      @@codecage9333 Oh yes, It’s actually called virtual string. Is a way of braking down a string of lights that are connected to a single port into smaller ones. This is only for visual purposes. Imagine that you have 5 snowflake of 100 pixels each You can either enter a total of 500 pixels on that one port, or divide them into 5 virtual strings of 100 pixels each. The controller does not care the shape or what kind of elements you have connected, all it cares is for the total count. Xlights is the one that needs to know where in that string of lights each element starts, in order to send the correct data to it. Do not worry to much about this section. By using xlights visualizer all of this is taken care automatically. Here is a video about that.

    • @trevilights
      @trevilights  Год назад

      Well, you will need to create a small network to connect your computer, the controller and a Raspberry Pi if you are using one to control your show. So you will need a small router with some ethernet ports. Maybe something like this. Look around.
      It's going to be a little tricky.

      @@klausgielisch320 No, xlight is just a sequence creating software. You still need a way of send data from xlights to the controller via a network.
