Hi Mr Trevi! Love coming by and seeing your lights in Draper! I live in Lehi started on the light journey this year. Started simple with some permanent lights on my roof line. (WS2811 strings). Hopefully this next year I can add some arches and a mega tree!
Just an FYI to anyone watching this. You no longer just Double click to get in to the edit label in the newer version of Xlights. You now need to hold the Shift key down and then double click. But you can go into the settings and select the old way if you so wish

Trevi, I'm trying to do another Sequence with the trees, i can get everything set up but i can't get the lyrics in place to start braking it down. i double click and the music just plays. Do i up load the 1st sequence to the Pi and then start with a new xlights set up for the 2nd one? any suggestions?

Thanks for your quick reply! What I meant was the sequences where the trees are having a conversation with each other, with a different voice for each tree. The show I saw this in was by Tom BetGeorge I think.
Thanks Carrie. In the sequence tab and while the face effect is selected just click on the color palette and the color should change in the preview box. See minute 18:30.

Hi! Thanks for the great video, but I tried doing this on my computer and I couldn't figure out how to add a label for the time track. I tried double clicking on it and right clicking but I still cannot figure it out. Do you have any suggestions? Also I'm not sure if the fact that I'm working on a Mac has anything to do with it but I just thought it might be a reason for my struggles. Thanks!
Hi Mia. To be able to add word please check the following. In the File Menu select Preferences. Then Effect Grid and make sure the Double click mode is set to "Edit Text. Click OK to exit.
Okay. First of all, thank you. This video of yours has been so helpful! I have made tremendous strides in getting my sequence completed. I am using the most recent version of xLights and I think you were using the previous release, so there are some differences. I have worked through most of them. The one I could not figure out is pressing "T" to mark the phrase when entering words to the music. Not sure if that went away or done another way. More importantly, my song has a number of 'in excess" phrases in it. The "Gloria" translates into phonemes but the translator doesn't even attempt "in excess". For phonemes I get AI (in) and nothing after that. I can probably create something using the faces under the Layout tab, but I see no way to add phonemes to a sequence and changing phonemes is a bit of a mystery. Any thoughts?
Hi There. Thanks for your kind word. For timming "t" mark, make sure you have the timming radio button (leftmost, next to the timing track name) selected. Then click on the wavelenght and press the 't' key. If that does not work, then goto File, Key Bindings and seach for a line named "TIMING_ADD" and make sure the key selected is a 't'. Otherwise, click over the "TIMING_ADD" line and you should see an option to enter the key you want to press to activate it. Here, in this menu, you can see all things you can do when you press certain key. Now, about the "in excess" words, I just tired a senteced like "I love you in excess" and it was able to brake it down and created the phonemes for it. Make sure your spelling is correct.
@@trevilights You know spell check is a wonderful thing. However, the phrase in Christmas carols is Gloria in excelsis. Excelsis is the word that the dictionary cannot find.
Trevi , in xlights 2021.07 when adding another group of words , I get caution message telling me 'all timing on track will be replaced' I am unable to double click the timing track. Everything must be done on the left hand side of column.

Hey Jack. It's easy. In the layout tab add the Tree and place it anywhere. Then go to the sequence tab and on the top of the xlight where all the icons are there is an Icon with 3 yellow boxes on top of each other(Display Elements), Click it. A new window will open. Select your tree from the left box and then move it to the right with the ">" button. Close the window. You should not have the tree in a new row. With the display elements option you can add or delete elements from your sequences.
Hey Jack. While in the Layout section, press the "create new download" button then click-hold anywhere in your layout and drag your mouse. When you let go your mouse button a new popup window should appear with the available elements. If you get an error, just upgrade your xlights version to the latest. Also you need internet connection.
Jack, you will need to provide your own music. When you create new sequence, choose a musical sequence. Then just navigate to where your music file is. If you google "RUclips to MP3" you will get some applications that will allow you to download music from a RUclips video. Just keep in mind that some music is copyrighted. The are also videos in RUclips on how to do this.
Hi Trevi, I'm still trying to work with a song, I have a problem when trying to input lyrics as for some reason it only lets me input the whole song, not one sentence at a time which would be easier. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Ian
Hey Ian, Check this setup. In the File menu, select Preferences, Effect Grid Tab and make sure the option "Double Click Mode" is set to "Edit Text", click OK to Save. This will allow you to double-click in between your marks to input lyrics. See minute 3:20

hi trevi im stuck i have a pixlite 16 i go into advatek to configure the maxium pixel i could put is 340 put i have a mega tree 16 strands all connect together 25 up and 25 down i have 431 total with star they all light up but it seems its all backwords when i put fire in sequence its on top and when i put snow its on bottom i plug just one strand into port 1 on controller because there all connect together is that the problem because there all toghter thank you
Hi Den Bel, try this. In xLights select your mea tree (single click) and in the left option panel search for an option called "Starting Location". Play with different selections. Basically this means where you data cable comes into the tree. It matters.
@@naomigoeller6411 ws2811 either in 5 volts or 12 volts. Keep in mind that you still a pixel controller. A few brands are the Falcon Controller and Kulp Controller.

I want to use 4 singing trees in my display. I saw this tutorial and want to use it to guide me. At :33 you select the trees from a menu with Boscoyo trees and number of lights etc. That is a nice menu, but where did that come from. My trees came from Holiday Coro not Boscoyo. Also, I have a Mac and while I found the singing tree icon, I can't seem to import it into xLights. Any help on those? Oh and I would like 2 songs in my show. I have the one song in the show, but how do you get the econd on?
Hi There, thanks for your comment. The list you see is provided by xlights and probably maintained by the different providers. You need to search for your element in that list. If you do not find it, then try getting the model from HolidayCoro. They should be able to provide you with a model file that you then import. To get a second song, you will need to create a new sequence and save it. Then you will be creating a playlist with your two songs and finally adding that playlist to a schedule that will control your show start time end time and days to play. Sounds complicated but it easy. It all depends on how your are planning to run your show. You can run your show from your computer(not recommended), your controller (if capable) and a Raspberry PI o Beaglebone running FPP. @@cgibson100 look at 0:20. Click the download arrow, then click and drag your mouse like if you were drawing a rectangle on the black layout. The popup should come up in a few second. You need to have internet access.

Hey Stephen. The solution is.. in File Menu select 'Preferences', then select the "Effects Grid" tab and make sure that the "Double Click Mode" is set to "Edit Text". Click "Ok" to save.

@@stephenlowry1023 Hi Stephen. I am well and I hope you are too. And yes, I am working on some new videos but have not had the time to finish them. I have had the the issue like yours before. I think is a software issue. Unfortunately the only way to get it foxed was by doing a Factory Reset. Before doing so check the following. In the Port Configuration Page make sure the Port Mode dropdown is set to "Main board Only". Seems like if you play around with this setting it thinks you have and expansion board and messes up the settings. If this does not solve the problem then do a Factory Default reset. NOTE: this will delete everything on your controller, even the network setting, which will make it hard to connect back to the controller again, So take this into account. To do a factory reset just disconnect the controller for a few second and then hold down the 'Select' button while you apply power to the controller. After a few seconds the OLED display should say "Resetting Controller". All done. I had to do this once. Since then, I do not mess with the Expansion board menu. I do not have any expansion boards anyway. Good luck.
@@trevilights you showed how to set up the singing trees but i also have a Snowman and Rudolf that sing, i got them from Boscoyo Studios at the same time I ordered the trees. i just can't figure out which icon to place i there time line to make them sing also. i know i'm asking a lot of questions and I really want to Thank you for all the help that you have giving me. @@jackrogers8751 Oh. I get it. In your Layout click the Arrow down Icon (create a new download) then click (and hold) anywhere in the layout screen and drag your mouse(let button go). A window will open with the elements to download and under singing elements select Rudolf and Insert model(repeat for Snowman). Then go to your Sequence tab(if you already started a sequence) and press the icon with the tree yellow squares on the top of the screen. Move Rudolf and snowman to the right of the screen by pression ">". Close window,

@@jackrogers8751 Same Icon(faces). Drag it to the Rudolf in the time line and expand it for all the song. Then click on it and select from which timing track (Male or Female) should it read the lyrics from.
Trevi, has anyone had trouble with xlights? i had everything up and running for Halloween and then xlights updated to version 2021.32, now nothing is working correctly. just wondering
Hey Jack. What do you mean by 'Nothing is working'? Can you load your sequence and play them? I using 2021 30, I'll upgrade to 2021 32 and test it tomorrow.
@@trevilights I can load sequence and play them but the rgb lights are not the right color and about half of them won't even turn on. when I run a test in my Falcon Controller (like ramp red) everything works. I'm just not sure how to get back to version 2021.30

xLights dictionary if only for English(that I am aware). Since the goal is to sync the movements of the mount to the lyrics, it is possible. You will have to find sound-like words to match other language.
I just tried for 40 minutes trying to type in the lyrics. I tried double clicking on the middle of the line & could never get the screen you showed for editing the label. I looked in documentation also & still couldn’t do it.

xlights take may formats of music. I usually use MP3. You can download music from youtube using any "RUclips to MP3" site available on Internet. Just be careful some of these sites might trick you to download software to your computer.

Quick question! So when I bring this in to an existing sequence and render, the whole sequence changes. Looks horrible! Is there a quick fix? All is good with porta and visualize. Has something to do with blending I think?

Your best option is try to find a word that sounds like it, may not be exactly but good enough. People may not even notice it.

Hey Jack. It's easy. In the layout tab add the Tree and place it anywhere. Then go to the sequence tab and on the top of the xlight where all the icons are there is an Icon with 3 yellow boxes on top of each other(Display Elements), Click it. A new window will open. Select your tree from the left box and then move it to the right with the ">" button. Close the window. You should not have the tree in a new row. With the display elements option you can add or delete elements from your sequences.

Hey Jack. While in the Layout section, press the "create new download" button then click-hold anywhere in your layout and drag your mouse. When you let go your mouse button a new popup window should appear with the available elements. If you get an error, just upgrade your xlights version to the latest. Also you need internet connection.

Jack, you will need to provide your own music. When you create new sequence, choose a musical sequence. Then just navigate to where your music file is. If you google "RUclips to MP3" you will get some applications that will allow you to download music from a RUclips video. Just keep in mind that some music is copyrighted. The are also videos in RUclips on how to do this.
Hi Trevi, I'm still trying to work with a song, I have a problem when trying to input lyrics as for some reason it only lets me input the whole song, not one sentence at a time which would be easier. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Ian

This will allow you to double-click in between your marks to input lyrics. See minute 3:20

hi trevi im stuck i have a pixlite 16 i go into advatek to configure the maxium pixel i could put is 340 put i have a mega tree 16 strands all connect together 25 up and 25 down i have 431 total with star they all light up but it seems its all backwords when i put fire in sequence its on top and when i put snow its on bottom i plug just one strand into port 1 on controller because there all connect together is that the problem because there all toghter thank you
Hi Den Bel, try this. In xLights select your mea tree (single click) and in the left option panel search for an option called "Starting Location". Play with different selections. Basically this means where you data cable comes into the tree. It matters.

@@naomigoeller6411 ws2811 either in 5 volts or 12 volts. Keep in mind that you still a pixel controller. A few brands are the Falcon Controller and Kulp Controller.

I want to use 4 singing trees in my display. I saw this tutorial and want to use it to guide me. At :33 you select the trees from a menu with Boscoyo trees and number of lights etc. That is a nice menu, but where did that come from. My trees came from Holiday Coro not Boscoyo. Also, I have a Mac and while I found the singing tree icon, I can't seem to import it into xLights. Any help on those? Oh and I would like 2 songs in my show. I have the one song in the show, but how do you get the econd on?
Hi There, thanks for your comment. The list you see is provided by xlights and probably maintained by the different providers. You need to search for your element in that list. If you do not find it, then try getting the model from HolidayCoro. They should be able to provide you with a model file that you then import. To get a second song, you will need to create a new sequence and save it. Then you will be creating a playlist with your two songs and finally adding that playlist to a schedule that will control your show start time end time and days to play. Sounds complicated but it easy. It all depends on how your are planning to run your show. You can run your show from your computer(not recommended), your controller (if capable) and a Raspberry PI o Beaglebone running FPP. @@cgibson100 look at 0:20. Click the download arrow, then click and drag your mouse like if you were drawing a rectangle on the black layout. The popup should come up in a few second. You need to have internet access.
Unfortunately you can no longer double click to Add Label, you need to Shift Double click or change the settings under File >Preferences >Effects Grid > Double Click Mode > Change drop down to Text

hi Trevi ,i have followed your instructions on the singing faces but seem to get stuck on labeling the timeline to insert lyrics i cant seem to get the enter new label box when i double click, im using the latest ver of xlights if that makes any difference , thanks again for your help
Hey Stephen. The solution is.. in File Menu select 'Preferences', then select the "Effects Grid" tab and make sure that the "Double Click Mode" is set to "Edit Text". Click "Ok" to save.

@@stephenlowry1023 Hi Stephen. I am well and I hope you are too. And yes, I am working on some new videos but have not had the time to finish them. I have had the the issue like yours before. I think is a software issue. Unfortunately the only way to get it foxed was by doing a Factory Reset. Before doing so check the following. In the Port Configuration Page make sure the Port Mode dropdown is set to "Main board Only". Seems like if you play around with this setting it thinks you have and expansion board and messes up the settings. If this does not solve the problem then do a Factory Default reset. NOTE: this will delete everything on your controller, even the network setting, which will make it hard to connect back to the controller again, So take this into account. To do a factory reset just disconnect the controller for a few second and then hold down the 'Select' button while you apply power to the controller. After a few seconds the OLED display should say "Resetting Controller". All done. I had to do this once. Since then, I do not mess with the Expansion board menu. I do not have any expansion boards anyway. Good luck.

@@jackrogers8751 Oh. I get it. In your Layout click the Arrow down Icon (create a new download) then click (and hold) anywhere in the layout screen and drag your mouse(let button go). A window will open with the elements to download and under singing elements select Rudolf and Insert model(repeat for Snowman).
Then go to your Sequence tab(if you already started a sequence) and press the icon with the tree yellow squares on the top of the screen. Move Rudolf and snowman to the right of the screen by pression ">". Close window,

@@jackrogers8751 Same Icon(faces). Drag it to the Rudolf in the time line and expand it for all the song. Then click on it and select from which timing track (Male or Female) should it read the lyrics from.
Trevi, has anyone had trouble with xlights? i had everything up and running for Halloween and then xlights updated to version 2021.32, now nothing is working correctly. just wondering

@@trevilights I can load sequence and play them but the rgb lights are not the right color and about half of them won't even turn on. when I run a test in my Falcon Controller (like ramp red) everything works. I'm just not sure how to get back to version 2021.30
Look in your download folder in your computer. Every time you download a version the executable file get saved there.

xLights dictionary if only for English(that I am aware). Since the goal is to sync the movements of the mount to the lyrics, it is possible. You will have to find sound-like words to match other language.

I just tried for 40 minutes trying to type in the lyrics. I tried double clicking on the middle of the line & could never get the screen you showed for editing the label. I looked in documentation also & still couldn’t do it.

xlights take may formats of music. I usually use MP3. You can download music from youtube using any "RUclips to MP3" site available on Internet. Just be careful some of these sites might trick you to download software to your computer.

Every time I make timing marks and double click between them to insert lyrics it just starts the music for the time between the timing marks. What am I doing wrong?

Got my tree all wired up after watching this video. Then just when I went to add, the double click to add phrase is not working. Looks like xlights changed how lyrics are added. Really enjoy your videos, but lost as hell. The new add lyrics is above me.

Quick question! So when I bring this in to an existing sequence and render, the whole sequence changes. Looks horrible! Is there a quick fix? All is good with porta and visualize. Has something to do with blending I think?
