I'm pretty sure Riley had been cheating with Adam long before OP proposed to her, they had each other's phone numbers when OP explicitly said that Adam didn't talk to anyone, OP also said Riley would always mention Adam when they came back from the gatherings, that's a massive redflag right there, no matter what she was saying about him, if a woman is always talking about another man you can be sure something is up.
Also there's the fact that it happened literally the day after they got engaged, of course they had already been doing it before as she felt pretty comfortable doing it despite the engagement, you don't go from getting engaged and the throwing it away the next day, that's a stretch to believe, i guess Adam is the typical stupid jerk that didn't think two moves ahead and would try to ruin his brother's happiness but instead ended up saving him from a cannonball of a cheater. Adam could've caused some much more damage if he was actually smart. Imagine if he gets Riley pregnant and they make OP raise it? Later down the line the damage would be way worse. Adam just wanted a quick thrill of feeling superior in the moment like he did when he bullied OP when younger but in the process only made himself more miserable.

I always hate the whole "be the bigger person" thing. Like yes, in some situations being the bigger person is helpful and will save future problems but in others, forgiving someone who will never change or be better will just cause yourself more pain and isnt good.
