Fucking delightful… I saw this was posted earlier and I purposefully waited for your reaction to listen for the first time. So glad I did. These fellas do not disappoint. I was grinning from ear to ear. It’s already stuck in my head and I’ll have this on repeat all day.
Henrik was always an insane bass player in my mind, but this song launched him into some very elite company in my mind. this puts him in the realm with the likes of Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey in my mind. that section after the intro is just INSANE.
Most importantly, this is a Dirty Loops song. So, this uplifting feel-good love song is actually about running away screaming from your girlfriend/boyfriend. Consider your head fucked with. It's goddamn genius is what it is, in so many ways.
Wow, Yeah!!! So glad to listen new a song from this super-funky-group. As a Swede living in the very same town as this awesome band I am just both happy and proud to listen to this great new groove and coords and all of it. A bit of new themes in it. Like it a lot. Since I am a leader of spinning-classes and have given the training that extra level of energy through a long series of Dirty Loops songs this gives a lot of new energy. So happy to put this into the mix.
Once again, I always appreciate your reviews for both the keen insights (Henrik’s pink strings) and pause-less commentary. Notwithstanding your remark at the end, me thinks thou wilst be looping this.
Watched it when it first came out yesterday and had 2 thoughts....my first thought was 80's hair band-ish parody done beautifully, epic chords, fantastic light show, Henrik WTF.....and my second thought was oh fck I can't wait to watch Steve react to it. Lol. I've listened to it probably 5 times now have giggled through every one so far. I'm sure you know they have a US tour on now. They're coming within 4 hours of me on April 20th. Only way I miss it is if I'm dead. Period.
Yes! Glorious is the word. I'm so happy for this new one - and of course keeping my fingers crossed that they will release a few more in the near future. Thanks, Steve! Cheers ✨
YES *_GLORIOUS_* Anthemic 80s Stadium Rock, with every possible visual cliché. It's both a Joyous Parody and Homage. Aron with the joke kit, sweatband and 'muscles' T. Totally Joyous for the eyes, and Fun to listen to. Best Wishes, ☮
The reason that Henrik was "featured" is that he composed it. I just downloaded the song and he was listed as the composer. The only one actually on my Windows Media Player.
Actually the drummer Aron writes most of their music according to Henrik himself in an interview I did with him: ruclips.net/video/W40lkyB7fp4/видео.htmlsi=Q5I7r_h5oQvY_fFW Though perhaps Henrik gets compositional credit for chunks of the bass solo work here.
@@SteveOGRock I saw that interview and I know what you are saying about Aaron is true. I was surprised when Henrik's name and his name only filled in the Composer slot in my media player information for the song.
@@waregl72 In the credits of the video they're all listed as composers though. No idea why it only lists him on your media player though, and it's not yet up on Tidal 😤 so I can't check whether it's the same there. Maybe he wrote most of it?
Yes!! Finally someone else sees that they are often making light of the syle of music they are associated with. These guys are such highly trained musicians that their skills surpass anything that they present to us. Quincy Jones pounced on them for good reason.
So part of me would have liked a bit more traditional approach, with an actual verse perhaps, as that would probably have lend it self to making the song a bit more approachable, but still an incredible display of talent, and I've listened to it like 10-12 times already, and seen 3 reaction videos. (One of my favorite guilty pleasures are pouring a glass of red, sitting down on the couch, watching DL reaction videoes on RUclips, and then watch most musicians just startto reevaluate all their life choices 😅)... Man I look forward to the next one... (Also. Jonah is totally going for a Elton John look)
Haha, that sounds like a time! Especially with a bit of vino in the mix. And I agree; the song structure is insane. It's like: - * The vocal section at the start is the verse, except it's really a chorus in disguise * The verse builds to a bass solos the first two times, in place of a chorus * We then get a key change'd verse instead of the traditional chorus, but with the changed drum pattern it then becomes apparent that this is actually the chorus. It was a verse earlier on, but now it's a chorus. Mental * Then the song just ends. No real room for a solo, as we've already had two ridiculous ones, and the third verse-chorus already had the vibe of a bridge somehow, as it sounded so different from the first two times They're definitely marching to the beat of their own drum (or in Aaron's case 10,000 drums). After a few listens, and getting more used to hearing this bonkers song structure, I can't deny that they've somehow made it work. I think it's just very subversive and unfamiliar at first obviously. Although that sensation that the song just ends prematurely and that something isn't quite complete hasn't left me yet, so perhaps it doesn't quite work after all -- I dunno. What I do know though is that they're clearly willing to take a punt on some kind of weird, experimental song structure, which I think is commendable!
@SteveOGRock I'm interviewing Henrik for my podcast in a few weeks. Anything you think I should ask? We're going to do a breakdown of this song. To hear it when it drops, check out Journey to the Stage with Bryan Frazier on any podcast platform.
Hey Bryan, looking forward to you dropping that interview. One question I would have: how did Henrik come up with those solo lines? And what part in writing them did Aron play? They hook in so well and flawless with Aron’s drum lines and fills….
Heard it twice now and don’t really know what I think about it, but I have a feeling it will grow with time. But just seeing Aron in pink leggings was something 😅
I especially love that Aron has Dirty Loops printed in AC/DC-style on his sleeveless t-shirt, along with his pink headband and leggings. And that Henriks extra hand has Aron tattooed on it (check it out in the beginning of the video!) plus the split he performs with his fake legs. Wait, are we supposed to talk about Henrik playing? No, everybody else has already done that. I just want to point out the finer details here :)
The lyrics are the opposite sentiment of "Next to You". That can't be an accident, can it? There's a repeating vocal thing at the end of verses (I think it is "Hey, Ah") that sounds like an exact replica, complete with the precisely the same reverb, of something I remember from the '80s. But I can't quite place it. No Quincy Jones mention in the credits. Anybody know why? I've seen a number of reaction videos for this song, and nobody says anything about Hendrik's new hair!!??
I think those lyrics you refer to are “…and I…” And yes, interesting idea about them being the opposite of the ones from “Next to you”… Henrik’s hair has been blond now for a while, so maybe people are used to it by now. He got a lot of comments back then tho ;) When asked why he’d gone blond, he said that he ‘wanted to look normal’ 😉 And I also wonder what’s happening with the Quincy thing 🤔
"Just the credits" .... never underestimate what might be hidden in the Dirty Loops credits (not so much in this one though, but it's there) :-) Dirty Loops is amazing as always - I think they have a profound love for the 80s so I'd more call it a celebration of all the things that made the 80s ... the 80s :-)
Oh I know, their credits are usually amusing but doesn’t quite make for an entertaining reaction video segment just watching me read tiny text so I skip it when reacting 😁
@@SteveOGRock I have to disagree - I've seen several reactions that include reaction to the credits, which always makes me happy. And they are actually entertaining because it's "a part of the package" with Dirty Loops. That's how I felt too. I'm all for finding or trying new sounds but this seems like a lot of everything all the time and I can't actually appreciate what any of the band members are doing.
The epic chorus deserves a normal verse imo. Feels wasted on the bass-wanking which could have been a shorter stick or something. Want more! Coming from a huge DL fan! 👍
Well.....I am not really into this new genre or musical flavor per say as a musician. But I back them as good musicians...and know they will float back down to earth at some point. Really "busy" would be the working word here. Can't wait to see the next foray.....
