The one doing the video editing for Dirty Loops is the drummer, Aron Mellergård. And in this case he really did a fantastic job, considering they recorded the whole album and filmed four videos during the pandemic without ever meeting in person. Dirty Loops recorded and filmed all their parts in Stockholm, Sweden, and Cory Wong and the horn section in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cory Wong has a podcast, and he had Henrik Linder (Dirty Loops' bassist) as his guest after the album was released, and talked a bit about how he (Cory) and Aron had coordinated every detail down to similar rugs and the height and placements of cameras, to get material that Aron could edit to make it seem like their in the same room. Henrik said, in a Swedish interview/podcast that they (Dirty Loops) had had Aron's girlfriend posing as Cory Wong when they shot their parts, so they'd know where to look. :D
It's impossible to single out stuff that's great about this band and this collaboration and this cover specifically, but man the HORNS are holding their own. Every damn piece of this performance is perfection + 1.
What was done for the tempo was they changed it from a flat 4/4 to a 12/8 shuffle. The horn section in Cory Wong’s band (currently called ‘The Wong Notes’) had previously been called ‘The Horn Heads’ when they backed up Prince
Fun Fact: The two groups were not in the same room when they shot the video. It was edited together from two different locations. They recorded the song pretending that the guys from Dirty Loops were there and vise versa. Dirty Loops shot their's from Sweden. In fact, Dirty Loops never met Cory Wong in person until a few years later after the video came out. The video still came out great and most people don't realize they are not performing together. Thanks for the reaction. I love this band, they are amazing. Funk and jazz-masters.
I was blessed to be able to sit down with them at their New York show, I found out something that blew my mind, Henrik (bass) that Aron (drums) wrote many of Henriks Bass parts!! Wild HUH! Ambassador Jenks
Interesting fact is that Thriller was written by Rod Temperton, a British guy from a rather small village along the English east coast. He was also the keyboard player in the German funk band Heatwave.
Come on.. it doesn´t have to be a comparison. They are both great. As a former big fan of Mike, the 1 thing I appreciate the most when musicians take on his songs, is that they stay true to their own thing and don´t try to emulate what he did. There are some fantastic covers out there that sound nothing like the original.
I found you guys through your Ren reactions but got really excited when you found Dirty Loops. You should check out some other Dirty Loops stuff like "Work Shit Out" to see their actual musical genius or any of their covers including "Rolling in the Deep". By the way Thriller was filmed by Dirty Loops in Sweden and Cory and his brass section in Minnesota. They never met face to face but put out a whole album and 4 videos.
Y'all need to just gon' 'head on down the Dirty Loops rabbit hole. You'll have a really good time down there. Side note, but kind of connected: I did see y'all's breakdown of 'GNX' and I kinda want Kendrick and DL (bass and drums, specifically) to do something together. I just think it would be dope.
And I think the drummer is the one does the editing for their videos. Don't know if y'all were aware, but DL and CW and the horn section are in two different locations for all of these sessions off this project. DL are in Sweden and CW and horns were in Minneapolis, I believe.
Dirty Loops have no guitarist in their trio, so Henrik (bass) has to get creative with his basslines. So does Jonah with his keys. And you’ve pointed out how well the video was edited… yes, agree completely. Aron (drums) not only plays like an imbecile, he edits all of their videos, and co-writes many of their tunes, including harmonizations, melodies, lyrics, and even basslines. In this track here though the arrangements were shared between both bands. Cory’s horns here are part of what used to be the HornHeadz, founded by Prince, and touring and recording with him and many other greats over the years. One of them arranged most of the horn parts, I’m guessing. This middle instrumental section is just so dope, too 🤯 Heck everything about this track is dope! To take this iconic tune, and decide to reimagine it and swing it in 12/8, takes some confidence ;) I’d love for you guys to react to Dirty Loops and their track “Work Shit Out”. Really, everything they do is great, but “Work…” features some awesome builds, and a hell of a drum solo 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Really appreciated your reactions and breakdowns of this track, thanks guys 👍🤟✌️👌👍
Just a quick word to Cory Wong: although he doesn’t get to shine much here on this track (more so on other ones from that album), he’s a phenomenal rhythm and funk guitarist, absolutely worth a deep dive down his own rabbit hole. He plays and tours with the best, has his own regular podcasts and is just a beast in his own right, both in terms of his musical quality and quantity of output. Go sign up to his channel. Cory Wong rules! ✌️🤟🤘
and cory wong and brass section wasent in the studio they did that part in usa and cory wong and brass section was in usa and dirty loop was in sweden ehehehe
Yeah Simon Petrén is their sound engineer. He mixes and masters everything and has an incredible musical ear and mind. Henrik himself has called him the fourth member of Dirty Loops :) There isn’t much about him on the tube, but what I’ve seen was super impressive, in terms of seeing his mind in action…
love this channel. i just watched many of your UK reactions as i am from there, you guys should react to Glizz - Conversations. he has literal bars and beats are mad punchy. 💯 keep it up
@@Trapper50cal whilst Quincy didn’t produce them they still sat on his management board. Jonah once said that they never showed Quincy anything, including their recordings and videos, until they were finished with everything. Or so I remember…
It's Jonah Nillson. Dirty Loops can play MJ because they were managed by Quincy Jones who was the producer of the Thriller album. So is Jacob Collier who was at Quincy's JammJamm and has also done some MJ covers including this strange one with a looping piano from Yamaha (below). All of these artists are amazing on their own and this is a great cover. Since u mentioned how hard it is to cover artists like MJ I thought it only fair to say this is one worth a listen, plus the video is total homage to MJ…ruclips.net/video/CDl9ZMfj6aE/видео.htmlsi=HnZwKgSVSLD0G4nY

Mr Bar & Beers: In all a nice and positive reaction but... why invite a guest when you interrupt him all the time and tell him what to think (and have already heard the song). A bit strange! 🙏🥂🍾
music is to loud i cant even here the singer singing the song clearly i want them to make it again without his voce getting overpowered by the instruments

Still an insane story, -even after having heard it for a million times…. 😱
Aaron was, I believe, who first came up with the idea to form Dirty Loops after having talked to Henrik about it. Aaron is insanely multi-talented.
@@RobertClaeson Yeah, he really is talented, and it was indeed him who came up with the idea for the band.

She can sing, too. Saw her live in Annapolis once.

As to the film work, they weren't all in the same room to record either.
The whole bridge / horn section is not an homage to Stevie. It's their version of the Vincent Price bridge in the original song.
