Thanks for a great reaction and analysis. Love to get other musicians take on their music, as it always gives me insight to some little detail that I've managed to miss, despite listening to their songs hundreds of times. :D
Aron is indeed playing it back for the filming. Jonah said in an interview with Stratele Studios, that he and Aron had to transcribe their partly improvised solos and learn them, to be able to play them back for the video, and whereas he felt he could afford to miss some fingerings here and there, Aron didn't miss a beat. He's insane, that dude. He's also responsible for a lot of the chorus bass line. Henrik said the following about this song, in an interview in Bass Magazine:
Bass Magazine: "“Work Shit Out” has a killer fretless, finger-funk bass line and it’s the most musically adventurous track on the EP."
Henrik: "That’s how we conceived it, as a song that would evolve into a long improvised section with keyboard and drums solos. It started with Aron’s octave-jumping MIDI bass line. I wanted to simplify it a bit and remove one of the beats, but Aron insisted on his version, so I had to figure out how to play it because it’s a little unorthodox on bass. From there, Aron and I wrote the verse and the chorus, coming up with the one-note melody concept for the chorus. Then Jonah and Aron added all the harmonies. For Jonah’s solo, I stick pretty much to the root notes so he stretch and change the harmonies above them. It was a lot of fun to play the song live on a few gigs before the pandemic because it took different directions each time."

The "droning" you're hearing is a Brazilian instrument called a Berimbau that I first became aware of when Nana Vasconcelos joined Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays on the "As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls" album in 1981. Well worth a listen!

Dude! This was one insane reaction!
I’m glad you finally got around to listening to this and sharing your thoughts with us, much much appreciated.
Getting ready to lose your mind, -we’ve all already done it before you 🤣
As a fan of Dirty Loops, for me these are some of the best moments!
And I guess you can look forward to the minute when you can take in all of the awesomeness of this track in one hit, without having to ‘react’ :)
It’s sure to make your jaws drop and the hairs on your arms stand up…
As others have explained, this was recorded first and the video filmed later, with all of them relearning their lines, solos and fills to sync the vid with the recording.
The berimbau and the other Latin-style percussion instruments on this track (and many others by Dirty Loops) are played by one Andreas Ekstedt, one of Sweden’s top percussion players specializing in Latin styles.
It could be tho that Aron is playing along with that rhythm, not sure.
Glad you appreciated his drum solo, it’s nasty and disgusting yeah 🔥
I loved your analysis of it, am always there for some technical and intricate nerding-out.
Jonah’s ways with harmonies and chords is legendarily insane, completely does your head in. And his way to build tension with extended chords and chromatic progressions 🔥🔥
He’s said in various interviews that he’s a great fan of classical music, would listen to Rachmaninov and other romantic composers if given the chance, but would choose to sit down with J S Bach if he could, for a chat ;)
He’s also a great fan of jazz, Oscar Peterson and Pat Metheny Group (Lyle Mays), -just amongst a few he mentioned.
His vocal range and emotional intensity are awesome too.
To me, he is a super musician (just like Aron and Henrik), and for me it came as a total surprise to once hear that he doesn’t see himself primarily as a pianist or singer. One of his musical dreams is to write music for film etc.
Check out his interviews with Stratele Studios and others.
Henrik mentioned in some comment that the bass tone on his fretless six-string bass here was fed through multiple channels. It’s just so lush…
He shows a completely different style of playing compared to their track “Next to You” or “Run Away”…
And yeah, it was Anders Mattisson, the maker of many of Henrik’s signature basses, who posted a comment on your “Run Away” reaction vid!
Honestly, can you imagine how much I look forward to their newest album to be released soon??
How much further can you go? And into what direction??
Check out anything of their existing catalog and it’ll blow your mind all over again.
They’ve done a version of the Samsung Galaxy ring tone, and it’s insane. Every genre possible packaged in there. And you’ll never be able to unhear it again every time a Samsung phone goes off ;)
    Also brilliant:
“ Follow The Light”, their cover of “Thriller”, “Ring of Saturn” and “Turbo” from their album Turbo, a collab with guitarist Cory Wong.
“World on Fire”, Rock You” and “Breakdown” from their Phoenix LP.
And absolutely everything from their first LP Loopified.
It’s impossible to overstate how mindblowing these three guys are.
Lots of joy to behold my friend ☺️
Again, thanks for a rad reaction 🙏
PS: they’re currently touring Canada and the US, and from a lot of accounts, they’re as awesome live as in the studio 👍🤘✌️👍

Yes, they are three classically trained musicians. They met at the Stockholm Royal College of Music and formed a band. You are right, Jonah was trained as a pianist, so was Henrik although he switched to bass when he was fourteen because a girl he liked told him that bass was a sexier instrument. The drummer doesn't actually sing; all of the vocals are Jonah. I saw them live last November and they were wonderful.

I only learned about them because of Jacob Collier who you should also react to if that's the kind of thing this channel ever does. You won't hear amazing chord progressions equal to his anywhere else, even in covers like "All Nght Long" where Quincy Jones and Steve Vai show the progressions at one point.
Other bands to consider: Altin Gun (Turkish folk with a psychedelic tint), The Hu (Mongolian Heavy Metal with throat singing), The Warning and female vocal quartet named saje that recently won their first Grammy. Oh, also for drumming Snarky Puppy when drummer Larnell Lewis is playing with them like on "Don't You Know" and "Lingus". He's a monster.
Also, it's old but Steve Gadd on Steely Dan's Aja was a game changer in pop.

I saw a 3 part interview between Jonah and a reactor named Jeff Castanon (Stratele Studios) and Jonah said that all of their videos were recorded in the studio and none of them were recorded live. He claims that Aaron is just that good. You can buy Aaron's transcribed sheet music for their "Turbo" album. When you get into one of their collaboration videos with Cory Wong from the album "Turbo", Dirty Loops filmed it in Sweden and Cory and his brass section filmed in Minnesota. Check out the song "Follow the Light" or "Turbo". You also at some point should watch Aaron and Hendrick's side project called "Songs for Lovers". They did 3 videos with just Aaron and Hendrick and a fourth with Jonah. You can't miss with these guys. Everything they do is amazing all the way back about 10 years when they just recorded "Loopified" covers of popular songs. Sorry to be so long winded but you got me all riled up. By the way, my wife and I have tickets to their concert in a fairly small venue outside of Denver CO. This is their first US tour and I'm pumped. When I saw that your reaction was 25 minutes long, I wasn't surprised to see this didn't disappoint! But I also forgot that of course, as a drummer, you'd be blown away by Aron, the most technical, creative, out-of-the-box, virtuoso of a charismatic drummer I've ever seen. Trust and believe, with your analysis, there are some running to their kits now because they've been trying to figure out how Aron does it. Thanks for the insights re: Jonah and Henrik. Jonah began singing in choir at a very young age - both his parents are/were choral directors. Henrik is otherwordly when it comes to the instrument he switched to at age 12/13, because a young lady told him it was a sexy instrument to play. Aron, well, just like his bandmates, is in a class of his own. He, Henrik, and Jonah are what you get when three childhood friends with Julliard like training most of their lives (perfected as teenagers in Sweden's version of high school and Royal College of Music) come up with genre bending, re-defining music. And spring blessings of joy while continuing to perfect their craft, if that's even possible. Henrik and Aron spent at least five hours per day, five to six days per week practicing together at school, if I'm not mistaken. So yes, they've worked for it, but NOTHING replaces their surreal, innate talent. Combing their catalogue IS going to take a while, but it's so worth it. One of my personal favorites is "Thriller". You've got to see and hear it to believe it. It's a collab with Cory Wong and the Wong Notes, but distinctly D.L. Also, please tune into the side project "Songs for Lovers" (love Bitten by The Kitten and Coffee Break is Over) - they're about 3 minutes each. Here's to Happy Ears!

You can see it with the keyboard solo, if you look very closely... Jonah also confirmed it in an interview, that he sometimes has trouble, playing exactly what he did in the studio for the video, but that Aaron is always on point.
So yes - he is not just goofing around in his drum solo, it is perfectly planned out and he can replicate it to a point, where you cannot hear or see a difference to the recording....
