Fan-super-tastic reaction, Matt! Great and insightful reaction once again! I would love for you to go back whenever you can to the start that caught the attention of so many of us, including David Foster and eventually Quincy Jones. I’m talking about the covers they put out on RUclips in 2010~2011 of Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Adele and others. As old friends and session musicians they did it just for fun and creative freedom, but they are still mind blowing. The harmonies, the skills, still holds to this day. How they “loopified” popular pop songs was unbelievable. I as a long time lover of jazz fusion as well as pop/rock was completely blown away, but thought they were Americans at first until I discovered they live just a few hundred yards from my apartment 😂😂😂
Once again, just a rippin' review - love watching your jaw drop in the horn section ha-ha. If you like the winds section, check out 'Rings of Saturn', especially the flute soloist
I saw them live last night. With the amount of layering most of their videos have, I expected it to feel a little flat in a live performance, but they really made it work.

Looove that you’re continuing down the rabbit hole! Hurry up and do more so your daughter can hear some new bangers in the car. 😅 ”Hit Me” or ”Rock You” by Dirty Loops could be a good next step, then maybe “Coffee break is over” or “Breakdown”. Later on it would be really cool if you also did ”Over the Horizon” by DL, the 2016 official Samsung ringtone. 😆 Only a couple of reactors have done that one so it would be a little bit more unique. It’s over on Samsungs channel. And last suggestion if you wanna do more Cory and DL, check out “Turbo” on his channel. Peace! 🙌🏻
The Hornheads are a collective of brass and woodwind session musicians based in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. They have played on albums and tours for a wide variety of musical artists, most notably Prince, who originally hired the musicians and led to the group's founding.
I LOVE your reactions. . And the reactions of those of people who *know and understand* music and musicians .. Producers, arrangers, composers etc. You CLEARLY see the amazing talent and craftsmanship in these musicians and what they do, and because you are so knowledgable, your amazed reactions are even more enjoyable. . . I'm sitting back watching you thinking "Dude! if you thought THAT bar was great, your brain is going to *melt* when you hear the NEXT phrase . . . !!"
Possibly the only pop song ever recorded with a double-belled Euphonium. They had to come up with a different middle section since Vincent Price is no longer among us. i like the 12/8 feel and the quadruplets (4 over 3) when they came in… another flawless performance.
Two short jam sessions without lyrics are Bitten by the Kitten and Coffee Break is Over. Highly recommend also, for one of Henrik’s best bass solos is their cover of Justin Bieber’s song “Baby “. Commenting on every post will eventually prove impossible. I would love for there to be a ‘skip the line’ suggestion that we can pay for, perhaps facilitated through a website called ”Buy me a Coffee”. That way, those willing to contribute can have their suggestion pushed forward while at the same time you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of some monetization if you are waiting until later to start a Patreon. Thanks for all the hard work you’re putting in. We look forward to more.
And there you have it - what it would sound like if Stevie Wonder would sing Thriller. Also the first reaction I've seen where you correctly identified the double euphonium. As a brass player, I want one. The brass section is, by the way, the Hornheads, part of Prince's brass section.
I started laughing when you mentioned Maynard Ferguson, my friends and I used to go to Summerfest just to sit and listen to Maynard at the Miller Jazz Oasis.
Yep. Filmed in different countries. All the Cory Wong stuff. I love how they thought to have the bass player randomly look to his right and Cory look to his left to simulate them on the same stage. Minor details that sell the end product. You're a drummer so you have GOT TO do Coffee Break is Over. So sick.
For the record you're the only reactor to this video that ever knew it was a double horn euphonium. Respect. I assume you know (through the comments) that the horn section is comprised of members from the Horn Heads...a "group" of players that played for the likes of Prince, among others. Hopefully fiddlesticks will elaborate. He (or she) comments on all the DL videos (as do I btw) and is knowledgeable on all things DL.
@@allieandbohaha 🤣 and thanks, but the real pro here is Lotta 😉 And yeah, the Hornheads (or Hornheadz under Prince) toured and recorded with him and many other greats over the years. Some of Cory’s horns are original members of this group. I watched some vids of Cory’s recent Europe tour, and those horn players BLEW me out of the water! Playing live on stage like you wouldn’t believe!!
Okay, yeah, if you dug the horn breakdown in this, you'll _adore_ Ring of Saturn. Highly recommended, and not a common one for reactors! Also, watch out for Kenni and his flute solo. They announce it with a whisper. ;) Also, Turbo, from the same album, has Kenni with a monster sax solo.
Yes They never met during the recording of music or video, Yes that is a double belled Euphonium, Yes in Dirty loops they are all in the best player in the band
I think Discord is the popular choice for a reason, it’s easy to get started and it’s free for everyone. Lots of reactors seem to use it for their keeping in touch with their communities. About this one, I’m still mystified as to how Jonah manages to distribute his phrasing through this 12/8 time signature. There’s’ a lot of syncopation, but some of those phrases shouldn’t fit, and yet they do. But for me the horn section takes the cake on this one: Their version of the spoken section of the original is like from another world, so beautiful it hurts. Not to mention their double-tongued machine gun hits throughout. They’re superhuman. That crazy horn is a double bell euphonium. I never saw it before either.
I am part of discord, it took me awhile to get used to, but I like it because you have different chat rooms, the video chat is fun as well. That would be my suggestion. Love your reaction to this song. ❤️
Matt, I just have to get back to you with some praise 😊 I’m so impressed by your attention to details and knowledge of not only drums but all the other parts of the songs and instruments. That and your enthusiasm makes up for the most awesome reactions. Subscribing.

Written, composed and arranged by Rod Temperton, except for the horns that were arranged by Jerry Hey I think. Credit should of course go to were credit belongs to. Not WackoJacko. (And he even "wrote" the verbal rap in a taxi on his way to the studio.)
Maybe more "life is a ball" than !life is a party"? Rock you could be next! I would like Ring of Saturn, because it is delicious smoothness. It is instrumental only, and give you a bit more of Cory Wong, and therefore a little less of Dirty Loops. Still, quite wonderful.
Nice reaction, as usual! I'm not sure why the double-bell euphonium didn't make the credits, particularly as people are obviously going to want to know what that thing is. I like Discord for community discussions, but it might depend on what you're trying to accomplish with this channel. I'm not super familiar with Patreon's features, but connecting creators with fans is what they're all about.
Wondering if you have seen anything by Leonoid and Friends, if not I strongly suggest you do, you will really appreciate their musicianship. I would start with their early stuff and progress on. Best cover band ever. Chicago, Earth wind and fire. You won't be disappointed.
You will thank me. The back story is this, Leonoid is a music Russian professor who loves the music of Chicago, so he could not get the music sheets because you know Soviet Union stuff, so he would write every note for every Instrument and would invite friends and former students to play the songs. Well they got so popular because they recorded the songs in a small studio and posted on RUclips, they were so good that it took off, might I dare say they are actually better than Chicago, and I've seen Chicago live twice. The interesting thing is that they are mostly Russian and a few Ukrainian and they don't speak English, however they have gotten much better with the English language now since they have become increasingly popular and started touring in the United States, I've turned a bunch of my friends on to them and they have gotten a chance to see them live, I will be seeing them live myself in a couple of weeks close to my home in Florida. I would recommend you start with 25 or 6 to 4. Or Beginning. These are some of their earlier ones then you can see how much they progressed, their Earth Wind and Fire is ridiculous. ENJOY.
To add, I’d have to put his vocal ability way past Mark Ledford and David Blamires of the Pat Metheny Group, something I never thought I would say. He’s arguably the best male vocalist on the planet.
If you're not already familiar with Periphery, you should check out "The Way The News Goes" or "Reptile" soon. There's a really good playthrough Matt Halpern does of "The Way The News Goes" at Meinl Drum Fest. If you are familiar already, check out "Grow" by Victoria. There's a playthrough video on Drum Channel.
All of this is "movie magic'; Dirty Loops did not meet Cory Wong in person until much later when Wong performed in Europe. That instrument; a two-bell euphonium.
While the music is catchy and poppy... only a musician understands the incredible complexity and technical skills that are required to pull of a performance like this. I spent time as a professional touring musician in Nashville and I can tell you that the musicians (all of them) are not just top notch musicians.. they are WORLD CLASS top notch musicians. Dirty Loops themselves are three virtuosos playing in the same band. Essentially a supergroup.. not unlike Rush or some other incredible power trio's in music history. FYI, I would suggest you listen to the song (instrumental) Turbo, (Not sure if you have listed to 'Follow the Light' yet) next, then 'World On Fire'.
I have bad news for you, bro. Now that you've heard this? You'll never be able to listen to the original again without finding it bland and kind of drab. xD
You introduced me to this group, and I'm very glad that you did. They are different from anything I usually listen to, and I am really enjoying them. Communication can get difficult as your channel grows. I am a Patreon on a couple of other channels and the ways that they handle things are different. One uses a combination of Patreon, and Discord. Having access to discord is one of the perks of being a patron. That Discord group is very active both among the patrons who sometimes have long discussions about everything under the sun, and with the reactor, who uses us as a sounding board for channel improvement and future directions. Patreon is used for announcements that are just for the patrons, and monthly song requests (another perk of being a patron) A different reactor uses the live chat that RUclips provides to keep in touch with all of those who subscribe. Warning that, if you decide to go that route, have a pen and paper handy for song requests. That reactor also has a Patreon where you can message that person directly. The live chat is great and I would suggest that, while your channel is still relatively small, you take that route. The Patreon site there is kind of dead. Another just has a Patreon. That reactor has tried to get some discourse going on Patreon, but, so far, hasn't been very successful.

Wondering if you have seen anything by Leonoid and Friends, if not I strongly suggest you do, you will really appreciate their musicianship. I would start with their early stuff and progress on. Best cover band ever. Chicago, Earth wind and fire. You won't be disappointed.
I have not!
ENJOY.
If you react to DL's "Breakdown" then that's exactly what will happen to you. You're in the rabbit hole now.
Sweet
To add, I’d have to put his vocal ability way past Mark Ledford and David Blamires of the Pat Metheny Group, something I never thought I would say. He’s arguably the best male vocalist on the planet.
Matt should listen to "Paolo Nutini iron sky (abbey road live session)"
Cool!
I'll check it out
Time to try this one: ruclips.net/video/PDKecPtliGU/видео.html - Look at Henrik's setup :-) Great bass solo 🙂
I have a Follow the Light reaction, but have not hear the others yet.
Good stuff! I think u should get a bit more nerdy with the drumming analysis!
I just enjoyed the whole thing!
I have bad news for you, bro.
Now that you've heard this? You'll never be able to listen to the original again without finding it bland and kind of drab. xD
Dirty Loops has never made a song called "Work stuff out" just so you know...
I'm aware of what it's called.
@@teckreactions shit I stepped in some poop
@@kingvii7250 🤦🏼♂️
Is it just me or is Corey Wong the least talented musician on stage?
The same in all the other videos.
Am I missing something? 🤷♂️
I agree. I like what he brings to the table though.
Thanks for the tips! I'll continue to evaluate. Glad you're enjoying DL!
"Livet är en fest" means "Life's a party!"
Here's the weird instrument (I had never seen it before either): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bell_euphonium
I've seen it once before.
