  • We tune a stock 5th GEN RAM 3500. We answer the question; Can you increase your MPG tuning a stock truck? We installed an EZ LYNK auto agent 2.0 in a stock 2019 RAM 3500 with a 6.7 Cummins. I wanted to see if it was worth tuning a stock truck or should we just wait until the warranty runs out and delete the emissions off of the truck. Watch this video to find out if you can add power and increase the MPG of your 5th GEN RAM HD truck.
    Music from: Epidemic sound
    Tune and hardware from: PPEI, EZ LYNK Auto Agent 2.0
    Bullet Point Mount: This mount is great when you have a tune. You can monitor everything on your truck through your phone. The mount is solid and very well built. This is a must have when using an ez lynk auto agent.

    Hello Dustin. I thought you looked familiar. I had to check and you are that person that had Rv frame troubles on a rough patch of road in Alaska plus insurance headaches afterwards.
    That video stuck with me & definitely came in handy a few months back when my wife and I were looking at Rv’s & purchasing insurance for it.
    I own a Ram 3500 diesel dually as well bone stock with all of its CA forced emissions stuff on it. Trust me the truck dreams of a less complicated lifestyle for sure in its future.
    I have also been curious about tuners and or a plug n play OBD-II devices. One that will give my truck more ponies but also give the truck better mpg as well.
    My wife & I recently took a trip from So California to Utah pulling the toy hauler (Harleys not included this time) and averaged about 10 mpg I believe & Yes 65 mph was definitely the sweet spot for sure in terms of mpg. Coming home I stepped up the pace and lost alot of mpg.
    Also the trucks onboard computer says it averages about 19.8 mpg on more or less flat not towing of course. I’m not sure if I’m trying to buy a tune or even a Banks OBD-II plug n play throttle sensitivity booster device for more ponies but trying to convince myself I’m doing it for the mpg increase. 😜 funny how that works eh?
    I seen you made another video about your 5th gen, Banks CAI & mpg’s so I’ll check that one out for sure.
    Appreciate the videos sir!
    ✌🏽🇺🇸
    Also one last thing your link for the Bullet Point Mount doesn’t work and I couldn’t tell if it was the Grid model or another.

  • @Steadierpark

    My 2500 lie-o-meter is pretty much spot on. I have used Fuelly to track my economy since new. City is garbage…like 14 mpg. Highway is around 20! All stock with no tune. Also, I have a PedalMonster on and unless it’s set to stock, the fuel economy goes down. I’m gonna delete just because I do a good bit of stop and go driving. And it hurts me to imagine all that soot getting pumped back into my engine. I know the systems have gotten better, but why have the added expense of def and eventually emissions components if I don’t have to? I’ll save the emissions stuff and put it back if I ever have to and it will be slightly used so that I get more miles before having to replace that stuff. And the cylinder walls won’t get as scarred from the soot particles. Emissions on tuning is a pretty cool option though. I’ve heard running the hottest tune and having the lightest foot will give the best fuel economy. Emissions on or not.

    Hi Dustin, are you still seeing the decent fuel economy increase using the tune? Have you noticed good improvements when towing? Also, have you installed the 68RFE Trans tune (it looked like it was part of your purchase)? If so, how do you like it and has it changed the MPG at all? I will not be deleting my truck so it will remain (mostly) stock and I am looking to improve MPG any way I can. It may sound silly to others but when you drive thousands of miles, even 1-2 MPG can make a big difference to your wallet.

    • @DustinFaddis
      @DustinFaddis  2 года назад +8

      Great questions, I am still seeing good fuel economy. Unfortunately I haven’t towed yet because I’m in Alaska and the snow is just now melting. I’ll post some towing numbers soon.
      I’ll let you know everything I’ve noticed about the tunes. I don’t care for the high horsepower tune because it doesn’t shift great even with the trans tunes. The low HP tune is what I use. It greatly increases drivability. It improves throttle response and I’ve been getting much better fuel mileage when driving with the cruise control set. What I have noticed is that it seems to burn more fuel than normal at an idle. I haven’t tested that but in the winter here in Alaska, the truck idles to warm up for 10-15 minutes before I drive each time I get in it.
      I totally agree that 1-2 mpg helps a lot. I don’t understand when people online say that you don’t buy these for fuel mileage. I agree but every little bit helps.
      I’ve had one guy comment and say that he got the tune but hasn’t seen a mpg difference. I’m not sure if he’s driving in traffic or what?
      So to sum this all up. My experience is…
      Idle: slightly worse fuel consumption
      In town, heavy traffic: nearly the same
      Highway, cruise set: significant increase
      Drivability, throttle response, power increase: these alone make the tune worth it

      Hey Greg, great questions. So the ez LYNK did get rid of the throttle lag. Also, the ez LYNK was able to tune for the larger tank. Not only does the fuel gauge read correct but it was able to tune for the range to read correctly also. So there’s a 770 mile range now. Thanks for watching.

    • @DustinFaddis
      @DustinFaddis  2 года назад +3

      I can only say from my personal experience. I have my truck tuned and I just remove the tune before I take it in for any work. A lead tech told me when you remove the tune they can see that something was done but they can’t tell what. You could have just adjusted tire size or deleted a code. So the short answer is, I’ve tuned every vehicle I’ve owned and never had a warranty issue
