@Gunner Andy i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I've done a very similar work on my scrambler 900, and it solves the issue of the exhaust getting way too hot. My father is about to get a 1200, but his concern is if doing that it would void the warranty of the bike. Would it?
talk to your local dealer as they are very aware of the heat problem and should be understanding as they don't have a fix. we have done this (unofficially of course )for a couple of Triumph dealers to keep customers sweet.
Hi it will work fine without it , but on some bikes we have had resonance at certain revs without the deflector plate . the deflector also helps to improve low speed torque by giving a crossover extraction effect like an X pipe.
By removing the cat you made the tiny Swedish Elf puppet actress cry again! 🧐😜😎 Nice work. Now get rid of all that unnecessary weight in the cans. Thank you for sharing.
Is there any specific material or brand that you recommend as heat shield material that can be stuck to the inside of the black and silver pieces that cover the exhaust to dissipate the heat?
Hello, I have a 2022 XC. I’m thinking to decat it. Do I have to do an ecu flash or need booster plug? If I don’t put a booster plug or ECU calibration would I have stalling issues
@@Spazik86 on high level pipe and some hot running sports bikes it drastically reduces the heat from the exhaust that you feel when riding the bike round town especially in summer. also improves sound and throttle response. some bikes will see a small performance improvement but not the huge amount that some de cat pipe makers claim. on some poorly designed de cat pipes I have seen the power actually drop ! So only buy from a company with good reviews.
@@hanvanadrichem8202 Hi yes I know we should all try to do our bit, but it is all relative. All the bikes in the country probably don't put out the amount of CO2 that a jumbo jet does taking off or anywhere near the particulates of 1 cargo ship sailing from China. As a planet we need to sort the big things first and not tinker around the edges. The amount of pollution bikes produce compared to Air and Sea transport is minuscule.
Hi, do you plan on doing any slip-ons? Also I've heard that the pipes can get very hot, some say too hot by the right leg, is there anything you can do to make this better?
This would have the effect of still appearing to have the cat if you live where they would check but if you don't, just by a De-cat header and save the stock pipe as OEM to sell with the bike someday.
Its been a year since this video.. Do you still offer this service and can I get it done by your USA shop? lol.. If not, will you give out the deflector solution? BTW, I will be getting one of your new 2-1 silencers in the next couple of weeks.. Good job on that!
I added the booster plug to mine. It's fully reversible. Just a sensor that plugs between the air intake temperature sensor and ECU. 5 min install or uninstall
Hello George. This is great and I can't wait to do it. My only query is: do you have to use stainless mig wire? It's just that my mig welder is gasless, and I don't think you can get fluxed stainless wire. Thanks in advance. P.S. I fitted the tail tidy yesterday. Very happy with that!
As a Yank, I listen to his accent and think "Scottish-ish, but not quite..." and every time that happens, I should just go Geordie, although maybe locals might say that just because he's in Newcastle doesn't mean he has a Geordie accent because surely I've heard some crazy accents from people from Newcastle.
Hi we do them in batches normally on Tuesdays, but best to call to pre book it in and post or courier to get to us before Tuesday, it will be done and dispatched that day. call mornings only on 01661823370 9.30-12.00 UK time
The beauty of this mod is no header pipe joins and looks stock. Had my 900 done by Meerkat last year, with a deflector plate fitted, and the difference was worth the low cost. Lovely Bike
hi we dyno tested it and the a/f ratio was fine on stock ECU tune. de catting only makes a very small power change with a bit more torque at low revs. Big difference is the lack of crazy heat against your leg.
Note catalytic converters - particularly used ones contain heavy metals and toxins - I would not want to be breathing in any grinding dust from a cat. I wouldn't go anywhere near a cat with a grinder unless I had very good breathing apparatus. Still, if you're not bothered about lung cancer then go ahead - fill your boots.
looks ripe for a complete system or just the by- pass pipes .take cat off and replace the section ..done no welding .. shields cover all up ... would be a $ maker your you
It's not as easy as it sounds. the only cost effective way to make the large DIA front pipes is to weld 2 bends together as some other makers have done. this looks bad. The bend is offset with a reducing tight radius and large dia. ask any tube make this is very hard to make without swagging marks or damage to the tube. Easier in 38mm DIA but not Ideal for 1200cc motor gas flow.
@@TECBikeParts No idea of the viability, but original Triumph header pipes with the cat out and your secret squirrel deflector plate in would be a welcome addition to the website. Agree entirely that the current welded curve options are pretty ugly but I can't sacrifice my original if I'm pulling the cat, I might be compelled to need it back.
As I say in the video, we have tried these on a 1200 and they are far from perfect. It would be easier to start design from new and not modify a 900 pipe

Zard is offering now the whole system for Scrambler 1200
Is this Decat service available here in the USA through Tec bike parts?
Hi George ! Will you be offering a decat pipe for the scrambler 1200, for those who don't want to cut their stock catcons? Thanks.

Do I need to send you the Cat complete to do the work or do you prefer if the innards have been removed first?
Very useful video, thanks. Is there any chance of something similar for the Royal Enfield 650 twins?
no need to as the cat is in the silencers on the RE 650's, simply change the silencers . We have several options on our web shop www.tecbikeparts.com

Is that legal?
Great video - Is CAT removal legal or acceptable in the UK? MOT issues ?
No. it's illegal.
No it's not illegal as exhaust emissions aren't measured on MOTs
Vehicles when new have to be sold with them for emission laws. Its not illegal to remove them later however same with tail tidies.
Could you use a hack saw for the second cut
yes you can use a hacksaw if you don't have a 1mm grinder ss blade

Obviously they’re newish bikes but just wondering if removing the cat would give emissions issues when it’s MOT time?
There's currently not an emissions test carried out on bike mots. Who knows what will happen in the future though??
