    The new system looks and sounds great and saved a bunch of weight as a fringe benefit. Sounds like a win-win-win to me. It's nice that the ECM can"'re-map" itself to get the most out of the exhaust upgrade. Over on the automotive side it's getting so any part you replace these days requires some kind of reprogramming or software update. Don't mind me....just a grumpy old timer who misses the good old (simple) days.😁 Thanks to you and Penny for brightening up these cold gloomy winter days. Blessings and good wishes.❤👍👍

      I feel your pain Rick, it's so much more restrictive now, all down to emission controls I guess, but once we get our head round it, it's actually quite easy to work on and a little less fuss... plus of course today's bikes make so much more efficient power than they used to in our day! Take care and keep safe, thank you for your wonderful support, D&Px

    As a Triumph Scrambler 1200XC owner, I find it quaint that Triumph refers to the decorative panels on the exhaust as "heat shields". As mine is a 2019, the cat was right next to my right calf, and de-catting it reduced the radiant heat by an average of 50 degrees (Fahrenheit). I also found that if I had even as little as three or four mph of airflow, the perceived exhaust heat was negligible.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +1

      Indeed, this was the exact reason that drove the decision to move the cat back in to the silencers!

  • @myz06rocks
    @myz06rocks Год назад

    As some people have already noted, yourself included Del, virtually all modern ECMs are capable of adjusting fuel trims to some extent. My ST is perfectly fine with an aftermarket air filter and exhaust and those bikes are now coming up on 20 years since their introduction. Pretty nice to have some adjustability in that regard straight out of the box. That being said, ultimate/redline performance will not be greatly impacted as a result either but you will more likely than not experience performance improvement throughout the rev range more so than at the top end.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +1

      You're absolutely right, adjustability is critical because as an air filter gets dirty and is suddenly changed for a new one at service, they'll be a sudden increase in air flow, so there must be adjustability in a map when these bikes are now forced to run so lean. In next week's video I've the DNA performance air filter going in to compliment the exhaust, it's been developed between TEC and DNA specifically to run on this bike with the Flank exhaust, and you're also right, that there won't really be any extra top end rush, it's bottom end grunt that's best gained through the engine's ability to take a deeper breath more easily. Thanks for your wonderful support, as always, have a calm and peaceful New Year, ride safe, D&Px

    Hi, I installed these slip ons a couple of weeks ago but I wasn't aware of the step to let the bike idle for 15mins for it to learn the new exhaust and adjust fuel map. Can this step be done later? Is it only about letting the bike idle for 15mins and turning it off?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +1

      Hey Brian, It is a fair bit louder but i couldn't even begin to guess if it's over 96db.. sound is so subjective and hard to judge... but luckily this system could indeed be made to be absolutely NO louder then stock.! As you have removed the CAT converters by taking the silencers off, then you can add a considerable amount of extra back pressure to this open pipe without detriment.. either make a more restrictive baffle in the back end, or add an extra baffle into the mid pipe tube just in front of the TEC muffler.! if you are in any doubt though, you can contact TEC directly and they are always happy to advise on these things if you need. Good luck with it and have fun sir..!

    That 12 pound loss at the very end of the bike will feel like losing 20 in the middle! You should enjoy some extra "flick-ability" in fast side-to-side transitions in twisty stuff. Those Ohlins should even work mo' betta than ever, too, with that much of a weight loss. Sounds great! .. I guess I'm wired differently than most, because I sorta like that big heat shield. Looks like a number plate! Great lighting in those dark places, by the way. You guys' videos are a treat to watch!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +2

      Thank you Tommy, and you're right, centralising the mass has been the holy grail of bike designers for years! And yes interestingly enough in the Triumph accessory catalogue you can buy an almost identical cover to go over the left hand side panel as a number board, so I guess it's a cap dof to it's competition roots... Take care and keep safe!

    I have an XE 2022 and yesterday I received my "TEC Flank" 2-Into-1 Exhaust , I said it was for the EURO 5 version but how can I know if it has been sent correctly? The RUclipsr "Life of a Scrambler" doesn't recommend to go without CAT because it can damage the engine, is that true? TECBIKE on their website says this : Euro 5 models - The Flank will fit Euro 5 models but you must fit the baffle provided with the kit. How can I check that mine has it? Sorry for so many questions! Many thanks!!!!!! :D

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +1

      Hi there, you can absolutely take it as read that if TEC Bike Parts say that their Flank exhaust is good for Euro5, then it is! They don't just make these exhausts up because they look nice, they develop them through rolling road testing, in all conditions, and the same goes for the DNA filter, they work directly with DNA to develop it for exactly your bike.... If you are in any doubt, you can call TEC Bike Parts and speak with George Milburn personally, he designed the system and developed it, and he will reassure you completely. The baffle provided should be fitted already in to your silencer, it's a small tube screwed in to the back end of the pipe with a button cap allen screw, this is the baffle, leave it in place, and you're perfectly good for Euro5. Once again, if in any doubt, check directly with TEC.

      Aha, I thought that might be the case... ok, I'd go about that like this... get yourself some quality penetrating oil and start soaking them over a few days, I know it's tedious but it works! Heat them up a little with a blowtorch, just enough to warm the metal through, then gently squirt on some penetrating oil and let it 'cook' it's way in... if you can get Kroil that's about the best there is, but anything is better than nothing! Then after a few days, warm them again, get a good purchase with the tool, and try and crack them off... also tapping them with a toffee hammer gently can help break the corosion grip. Also a product called Rostoff Blue Ice from Wurth can actually freeze the rust and help it crack free. Other than that mate, it's just luck and determination and of course, above all else, patience... once they move, don't just keep winding, wind them back in, then out again, and do the hokey-cokey with the pentrating oil till you gently nurse them out! Good luck with it mate.

    Great video again. Much prefer these ones in which you explain things.
    The tune you did though, I think it was done wrong. If it’s the same as the 12 minute tune to reset the adaptations then the process is -
    Start engine and let it run until the fan kicks in. Don’t touch the throttle.
    Once the fan starts let it run for 12 minutes, then turn the bike off again without touching the throttle.

    • @Moonfleet41

      I've heard several variations on it, that being one of them, another being, run it for 20mins, switch it off, then take it for a ride, up and down the gearbox, different kinds of road and then switch off and re-start... fundamentally, the ECU is learning all the time constantly, not just in idling cycles... if you're in any doubt mate, you can consult with TEC Bike Parts directly as they developed this exhaust and also the DNA filter that goes with it, which we're fitting in a coming video shortly.

  • @jonnny1
    @jonnny1 Год назад

    Hi Del. Fantastic video as always. Do you know if the procedure for the ECU to "learn" about the new exhaust is exclusive to Triumph or would it work on a Ducati also?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Год назад +1

      Every ECU has the ability to adjust fueling for atmospheric conditions or even things like fitting a new clean air filter.. but whether your Ducati has enough width to accommodate an open exhaust i would not know mate.. you could check with your dealer, they will know the drill for fitting an aftermarket system, whether it has to have a fueling device or if it can cope as is.! Give em a call make, im sure they'd be happy to help.

    • @jonnny1
      @jonnny1 Год назад

      @@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the reply Del. The Ducati dealer isn’t interested because they didn’t supply the pipe. The manufacturer of the pipe, Dominator, states that it doesn’t require a remap so I’ll go with that. I’ll try the procedure that you showed in the video anyway.

Besides the excellent production that goes into all of your episodes, they are both educational and entertaining. I have a number of RUclips subscriptions but your videos are the ones I most look forward to. Take care and be well... and happy new year!

      It's threadlock, basically a form of glue that locks the bolt in place so it can't rattle loose, also keeps out corrosion at the same time.

    Then - Two hours of visiting half a dozen different lay-bys, armed with 'the-skinny-tools', a pocket full of jets, new plugs for the final 'colour chop-test' & enough money to thaw out with hot tea & a fried Spam-critter from the life saving burger van!
    Now - 'Bimbling' away to tune itself, while you go put the kettle on . . . Sometimes, 'old school' isn't really missed, eh? : )xx

    A far better sound. OEM exhausts rarely have that throaty roar, or as I like to think of it "the music of my people" 😁
    I stubbied a Scorpion carbon can (from one of your old videos) and it has served 2 Bandits and now my VStrom 1000.
    As always, stay safe and much love to yourself and PP 🤩
