- On Two Wheels got its hands on a pair of 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XEs and rode them south of the border. Dawes and Waheed do their own version of the Baja 500, covering 500 miles and spending only $500 for three days and two nights in Northern Baja.
--
There’s no doubt that the adventure-touring segment is red hot these days. And while this class of motorcycle offers plenty of performance and utility, they can be a handful in a new riders hands. Plus they look funky and take up too much real estate in the garage. Does Triumph have the answer with its new Scrambler 1200 XC and XE duo? Curious to know more, the guys head to Portugal to be among the first to ride it during the official press introduction.
We outline that experience during the 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC And XE First Ride Review. While we were impressed with the performance and versatility of the new Scrambler 1200 duo, we headed home wanting to know more. Specifically, how will these bikes fair in the real rough stuff? So we headed to the off-road desert riding mecca of Baja California to find out with Triumph's up-spec and long-travel-suspension-equipped Scrambler 1200 XE.
Baja and competition go hand in hand, so we did our own version of the Baja 500. The mission: Ride 500 miles with $500. Easy, right? Well, it’s a bit tougher with two bikes, and a nearly unlimited supply of savory taco stands.
We traced some of the Baja 500 racecourse which took us to the El Diablo dry lake bed. After testing the Scrambler’s ability to wheelie and power-slide over fluffy dirt, we sought out go-go juice (you can’t Google maps a gas station in Mexico as you can in the States). After spending the night in the hills at Mike’s Sky Ranch we pointed the compass west toward the Pacific to see if the Scrambler 1200 can play in deep wet sand.
After throwing huge sand tails off the tires of our Scramblers we got back on course toward Coyote Cal’s, another popular Baja 500 waypoint. We pulled in just before dark for a solid night’s rest while ocean waves rocked us to sleep.
Triumph wanted its bikes back, and we needed to show our faces back in at the Motorcyclist office in SoCal. Never ones to be rushed, we took the scenic way back toward the Tijuana border, not before grabbing some souvenirs for the trip. Hungry for more? Find out for yourself in this episode of On Two Wheels.

That was fantastic. Screw the negative comments. They do not understand how hard it is to put something like this together.
Theres not 1 negative comment on, or about this video...
@@jakaberdajs4378 filter comments by new, there are quite a lot. I don’t know why though, it was a good video.
I appreciate that you're trying to keep the narrative driven style with these, even if it's harder to pull off. It does make them more entertaining.
Dang the imrpovements from the first episode to this one are wonderful. Well done Waheed and Dawes! Can't wait for episode 3 and the improvements on that one. Those bikes look like an absolute blast, the XE especially.
Adam's laugh will haunt me in my nightmares.....But goddamn it On Two Wheels is BACK!!!
Had to stop watching due to the heinous nature of the laugh.
You should never make fun of someone's laugh. It's when they're being the most honest and vulnerable they can be, and in a moment of actual joy. Never make jokes of people's laughs.
We need more unique laughter in life anyway.
@@moneeb343 Agreed. But I wasn't making fun. I just couldn't tolerate it.
I actually enjoy the sound of it.

Daaaamn those lake bed wheelies were *IMPRESSIVE!!* 🤩🤩🤩
Don't listen to the haters, this was a great video start to finish. You guys can really sell the Triumph Scrambler, it's on my radar now
i agree with every word you just said
Yeah why are you selling it???
Theres not even 1 negative comment to date on this video... Dafuq you talking about
@@jakaberdajs4378 Ya ever head of deleting comments
Looking forward to you guys finding your groove! Couple more episodes and I think you'll be totally dialed! Keep it up and make more content!
Notice he said "hong kong tonight" at 3:40.... for those who have not been in Tijuana. This is the mecca of stripclubs LOL
He's in Ensenada - nowt wrong with Paris...:-)))
I spent 1000 dollars in Hong Kong in one night. Lol
That was funny af too, also mentions Thai massages. Lol.
Strip club? It’s a cathouse. Most won’t catch the reference.
I hope you understand that those two words you used, do not go well together. they are two opposite side of spectrum !!
Incredible video y’all! Keep living the dream! Super happy that there are people out in the world that get to chase their passions like this.
This was actually quite good. Was nice seeing you guys banter and joking around. You're really finding your place with each video, congratulations!
Aaand motorcyclist magazine is most definetly back. Great job guys.
Awesome. I'm glad we still have some good motorcycle content like this
👍👍great video ,. those bikes are awesome, I just bought a 2023 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE
What an entertaining episode! Loved it!
Keep it up! Doesn't feel scripted at all.
BorisZX6R it’s good yes, but that last part is a bit denial, no?
Hi, aware this is an old post, but recently discovered it. Good storyline, good footage. I wanted to be there.
I'm so annoyed by the constant reviews of moto vloggers and all one sees is the handlebars and the constant opinionated droning of their useless theories. Manufacturers probably pull their hair out. Don't mind my rant. You did a great job.
The outtakes at the end are great. Thanks for improving guys! Keep at it!
Homerun guys! That was a great video. I love how you tested motorcycles within an adventure. Bring on the next episode.
Best video w the new guys yet. Keep working it! More Baja. Please.
My review of my XE after 3500 miles is that it's the biggest blast of a bike I've ever owned...and I've owned plenty. KTM and BMW are on notice. You do NOT need almost 600lb bikes loaded down with everything but a technician to travel or have fun. Simply put on the 40liter backpack in your closet and go...lighter, faster and with more style.
Great videos guys. Seen reviews in the UK where they talk about not being able to take these bikes properly off road and you guys have proved them wrong
Almost there gents! Massive improvements over the last episode.
My only gripe is you rode the motorcycles in almost every condition yet didn't mention the heat issues (if there were any) from the pipes. That would be a good bit of information for someone looking to buy this bike.
Well, it's fine on the 900 scrambler. You feel it get warm if you're stuck in traffic, but it never gets burning hot on your leg. I imagine the 1200 is similar
Man this comment is pretentious af
Could be a sign it's not an issue? Since they never felt the need to mention it.
The 1200 after about 15 mins of riding gets extremely hot.
Well done dudes. Always love a touring type video like this.
Two great riders. Two great bikes. And just about the two best-looking ones on the market.
Great video.
You know it is a great video when you watch it for the third time...
I can't believe you get paid to do this stuff. Dream job!
Nicely done gents, keep rolling with this and making it your own. Watch out for the Tacodiarrheas!
Great video. Love the Triumph Scramblers.
this is the content we want
Damn! I tuned in to watch the Scramblers, but now I REALLY want to ride Baja! Great VT guys especially the mono's!
These men are LIVING!
Hello from BELGIUM
Where the Bel-Ray lubrican comes from .
I used to put Bel-Ray marine salt repellant grease in my 1982 XT 250 YAMAHA Enduro's wheel bearings to ride in harsh Utah salty winter roads ☝😉
That bike was back then, the most simplest bike, very reliable bike ever, mono cylindre, 2 valves, 1 atmospheric Carburator.
I went from SALT LAKE forth and back from L.A with a modified gaz tank for fuel capacity and added an oil cooler
Rode that bike at an average of 60 miles/ hour, went pass the hotest desert in the entire U.S with the only problem of
a carburator fuel floater being stuck open by the heat ( knoked it closed by hitting with the wooden handle of a hammer ) .
Today I ride a 2005 Triumph 955i speed triple, old but still great 😆
now i can say 'on two wheels' is back and with a great video. great work Adam and Justin.
What a blast, two best mates riding British Iron!!! Nothing better! You got to do a ton up though. Liverpool.
Great video,Drive mag riders recently dd a video review of the triumph scrambler 1200 xe,and they said dont take it off road, they should watch this.
Kevin Westwood Drive Mag riders are some freakin posers, GS loving numnuts that have no objectivity at all. The Scrambler 1200 even competed in the Baja 1000 and those idiots tell us it’s not good off-road.
Well made film guys, really enjoyed it. Think you will find these bikes were made in Triumph's Thailand factory not England. Got a test ride booked on the XE, so looking forward to it.
Best episode so far.
Great video guys. Makes me wanna do some big time MC touring
The best motorcycle youtuber out there.
Would love to see you give a, "how to" on wheelies.
Such a fun and inspirational video! Keep’em coming please!
That was brilliant, thanks guys. Those bikes actually look like they have at least some off road chops
That was definitely a great trip. You guys are good - those bikes are heavy! Good job. Thanks.
Man this looks like a blast , can't wait to see more on 2 wheels
You know you’re with buddies when you get roosted by them. Awesome trip.
You guys have the best job in the world! Nice video! Keep up the good work!
Waheed getting to be my favorite but Dawes awesome too. Getting better and better. Glad this series is still going too
"How are we going to go to Hong Kong tonight?" HA HA HA Don't let your wife/GF hear that!
Wicked cool vid - great to see the Trumpies been put through their paces. Cheers, Campbell
Awesome vid, would love one of these bikes. Great job
Loved the bikes and the video!!!
Baja ROCKS too
Amazing video, gentlemen. Baja is absolutely one of my favorite places to not only ride, but visit.
man i want the scrambler so bad. this will def be my next bike.
I'll miss the last hosts, but these are getting a lot better. Keep up the great vids
Fantastic clip
I too have the ex1200
Regards
Dave from Scotland
This is really coming into it's own. I enjoyed it a bunch.
Beautifull video guys. Make more of these
I enjoyed this guys - nice. Thing is, as a (smaller) GS owner, I always wonder how bigger complex bikes fare with no support truck bringing-up the rear. When they break (which they may), you're done. I honestly think (being a worrier), I would do these trips on a DR650/KLR etc. - something simple and fixable. I live in beautiful Mexico and trust me, if you take a big bike to someone here they can't fix it (I needed a dealer just to change a tire!), but they can fix nearly anything simple (amazing people for getting a MacGyver fix done). Single cyl., carb, wire wheels - that's my thinking (or a support crew :-) - Anyway, nice video dudes (and dudettes on the team) - keep it up.
Jaja, excellent episode guys! Waheed is such a hooligan!
The footage was fantastic and the script didn’t seem too forced. Great chemistry between you guys, can’t wait for the next ep!
Amazing how well those bikes do everything, they look comfy for just cruising around on too. Great vid boys 👍🏼
You guys look like you’re having so much fun!
Cool video guys. Keep it up 👍
Underrated video. VERY underrated.
Fun vid guys, but still trying to unsee Adam with that stash, lol
This series is developing nicely.
Some of the best motorcycle journalism I have seen! Thanks for making
These are the kind of episodes we want to see more of! Maybe even enough to subscribe to a magazine of some sort!
Adding this challenge to my bucket list 😂
These 2..
together... Forever!
Looks hell lots of fun!
Well produced segment here. What kind of bikes were the camera crew riding?
Finally a good video ! Good job
Great vid, loved it 👍
HAHAHA the Dude knows his "Stuff" "HONG KONG!!!
Lol world famous
These two guys are really skilled riders
That was a hoot. I look forward to whatever's next.
Looks so fun
Nice long ride. What was the right leg heat like? I am also in CA (long Summers). The XE might soon to be the replacement for my 2018 S1000XR!
Heed for the wheelie win! Great content, guys. More like this, please.
Perfect Trip…..best Bike Scrambler 1200!!!! Also my Motorcycle
Great episode and loads of fun.
How much of that terrain really needed the XE over the XC?
Great video gods would love to hear about some of the maintenance on motorcycles change Etc
Love these bikes. Especially those grunty engines you dont have to rev up to get power like all the other adv bikes.
Thanks that was fantastic ! Maybe add this to the bucket list. Seems so unattainable.
Nice improvements guys. Keep it up.
Welcome to Portugal guys... Also, it's NOT a coincidence that Triumph chose the exact same location for this presentation as BMW for their new 1250 GS.
Cheeky cheeky... 🤘😝
More videos like this please!!
Good job guy's, greeting's from England !
I hope there are some On Two Wheels and MC Garage episodes scheduled for 2020. It can't be easy picking up after Ari and Zack, but you are doing great.
What happened to Heed's tank? How did he dent it? 11:45-12:00 time stamp
Love it!! I’m buying one
Great production guys
So what kind of range do those bikes have? Fun review!
Nice! Can't wait for more!
The bloopers! Nice
Every Triumph motorcycle begins its life in Hinckley, where all
design work, prototype construction and engineering takes place. They are built in Thailand and Brazil
Thumbs up, just because of this team alone.
Dang! That looked like fun!
I suspect Triumph’s new XC/XE scramblers will sell or not sell largely not because of their quality, but rather, depending on where you usually ride. You want to carry stuff and protection from the elements a lot more shooting the Alaska Highway than strolling Big Bend in Texas. Girl from old country, or that pretty thing in a summer dress? Triumph is no dummy though, especially if they can get you choosing Scrambler or Tiger. For me, it’s Tiger - hands down - but man, that Scrambler sure is pretty . . .
My worry is could it handle technical terrain. This was a nice video but they really didn't take it off road, just took dirt roads and called it off road. Here in Texas we have some nice places all over for off-roading but I think that bike may bottom out on jumps, humps and hills.
Just awesome 👌🏼 great job !
I AM SO CLOSE TO TRADING IN MY ROCKET III 2006 model and getting back on the dirt !!!
Such a Cool Video !!
