Your enjoyment is infectious Marion, and you’re a natural teacher. The most important thing for me is to find what engrosses you and not to worry about what others think. You have got me completely hooked on slow stitching and embroidery after probably 40 years of not doing any (I’m 70!). You have no idea how much pleasure and relaxation it’s brought into my life. Thank you ❤

“Whenever we create something, we always put parts of ourselves into it". Thank you so very much, Dear Marion, this is actually combined mindfulness concept - slow stitching with embroidery - sort of mindfulness-based sewing & art therapy😊🥰 🪡🧵🖼☀️💐🌸🙏 Thank you for letting us to be there, in a wonderful Marion's World.

I totally agree with what you said, that you can do what makes you happy in sewing/stiching, and that there should not be a hierarchy. I have a new found joy in the more “loose” techniques in sewing, compared to the embroidery (mainly cross stich) I did years ago - and that makes me so, so happy. I really don’t care if other people think it is strange or not worth doing. I couldn’t care less, and maybe it is my age, that makes me think that now. I can do what I like, and I really enjoy trying put new techniques new approaches to needle, thread and fabrics🌻🌷🌺🫶🏻🥰

That's it exactly. I don't know where this notion came from of something better than another... It's all worthwhile, whatever stage you're at and whatever it is that you're doing. If you're enjoying it... that's the whole point!

Hi Marion I love the way you freeform with your needlework using all different stitches. You have a real talent and thank you for sharing your passion. There will always be people who only know one way of working on projects and that is okay for them but there is not just one way of using thread and needle. New skills happen because people try different ideas. You have a real following now and I so enjoy your videos each time you post one. Thank you =-).

Dear Marion, everything you show us is so lovely ❤! I'm so pleased to have found your channel, and I am trying to follow all of it 😂.
For so long I've been satisfied with stem stitch embroidery, and haven't even tried anything else. But you have opened a door for me and shown how amazing embroidery can be with all the lovely stitches. You are a fabulous tutor, and I'm so thrilled to have your patient instructions in this format ❤.
I've learned a bit of eco dying, so swatches of natural dyed cotton is my background for this page. I'm excited to add the white stitching on top. With your instructions and example it will be very pleasing to me, I'm sure. Thank you ❤❤❤

It is relaxing have no idea what I will do with it but I have to say it feels nice to handle and is very relaxing . I’ve always wondered how you make a detached flower now I know thank you

I‘ve been thinking about making a skirt out of bits of old jeans, stitched together in a kind of boro style slow stitching, or maybe in sashiko. And now you come along with these white and cream flowers, and I‘m like: This would be perfect for my skirt idea! Thank you for the inspiration!

Hi Marion. What you said here, at the start of the video, makes me want to react too. When I was at school embroidery was not really interesting. But after highschool (about 1975) I went to education to become a teacher in fiber arts. What was taught there was much more free-form and artistic. Some of the teachers were professional artists who made works of art using textiles (applique, free weaving, macramé, etc.). I think the only difference with 'slowstitching' was that it was about the end result. Because I never became a professional artist, nor a teacher, designing and making something with yarns/fibers/fabrics for me became something I did with pleasure, to enjoy myself in my spare time. And imo that's exactly what slowstitching is about. So I can call myself a slowstitcher ... 🙂

Do you think you will ever use up all that tangle of threads Marion?
I’d love a mending video. Darning wool fabrics and invisible mending of holes and tears would be very useful.
These slow stitching panels are very like mood boards and memory boards. They are very abstract but quite fascinating. They are totally different from traditional embroidery. Not as organised, more spur of the moment, go as you please sewing. Very tactile and innovative. I’m with you on this one Marion. It doesn’t matter what you create, as long as you enjoy doing it. Thank you for passing on your knowledge and skills xx

Its nice to see these stitches coming together. At Sunday school we only ever got to do satin stitch and a couple of running stitches so I'm late coming to proper embroidery. I did acquire an instruction-less Japanese embroidery kit during That Time and was chuffed that I could complete it just by working it out from the diagrams. Your flower stitching was amongst the stitches used. This is so encouraging to me as I find joy in doing this kind of thing - a complete opposite to the dullness of cross-stitch which I find interminable.

I think that the hierarchy of crafts and methods is really just a confusion of purpose - the craft serves the crafter or the crafter serves the craft. When you serve the craft is the only time where it is important to do things “the right way.” It is more for keeping the old knowledge alive, I think.
