The term "Weimar Republic" was never the name of Germany, it's a term used by historians to refer to the specific time period where the Weimar constitition was the constitution of Germany. The official name of the country was still "Deutsches Reich" at that time, and it was the same country as before, just with a constitution and without an emperor. I'm pretty sure the average german person would've called the country "Deutschland" in that time, and I have read that names such as "Deutsche Republik" were sometimes used.
