    If there's anything to take away from this is that Williams' 2010's strategy of hiring pay drivers, looking for money instead of talent is the reason why they're struggling so much right now. If anything, Russell and Albon are the saving graces of the last decade.

    • @aoife1122
      @aoife1122 Год назад +10

      Under their new ownership they no longer depend on "pay drivers". Albon was eventually forced to sever ties with Red Bull which doesn't bode well for a certain Liam Lawson to be "parked" at Williams for 2024 as some are speculating.

      @CallumRSU30 Год назад

      To a point, but if what’s under you doesn’t go fast then it doesn’t matter really and Williams refound themselves with that gorgeous 2014 car and all it achieved; though I do agree perhaps character like Stroll entering the scene meant lower points scored, but it’s that game of investment I guess, short term gain etc

    • @adrianzanoli
      @adrianzanoli Год назад +1

      Williams hopes of success ended when Frank Williams refused to sell to BMW...
      They didn't chose to hire pay drivers, they HAD to... it wasn't a strategy.
      In 2008 Bernie Ecclestone pretty much saved the team when it was on the brink of total financial collapse to avoid yet another team leaving F1.

    Frank was kind of "forced out" of his first team by Wolfe back then. It's worth mentioning. Because it honestly ended up affecting the future of Williams when they should have sold shares to BMW in the 2000s. But Frank was unwilling to relinquish control because of the experience with Wolfe.

    I'm hoping Albon's heroics are signalling something of a return to form for Williams. I reckon the best candidate currently on the grid for a 2024 seat with Williams, providing they are indeed resurgent, is Daniel Ricciardo. I don't think anybody will be able to surpass Verstappen at this stage, and Sargent's been a bit of a damp squib (though not quite as bad as Latifi). Someone with the experience Ricciardo has could be just what Williams needs to start earning double-points finishes again - maybe even a podium or two!

    Interesting thing about the continuing amount of season of any team scoring points or podiums next to wins. Checked for Mclaren quickly, they had a 32 year contintues run of scoring podiums from 1981-2012. Actually they had podiums from 1968 up to (and including) 2012 if it weren't for just 2 seasons (1971 and 1980). After 2012 it had just 2 podiums in that decade (Magnussen in 2014 and Norris in 2019), and podiums again every year of this decade so far. Wins is whole other thing of course.

    In this video, we see the in my opinion worst F1 driver ever..: ALEX ZANARDI. While a very young Ralf Schumacher reached several podiums, Zanardi didn’t score A SINGLE POINT ! Let’s compare it with famous Luca Badoer and Yuji Ide: Ide had a very bad car in which you weren’t able to score points. Of course his teammate Sato was a far better driver. Badoer sat in a Ferrari in the same race which his teammate Kimi won. But he just got two races (Europe and Belgium) and almost scored points in a very bad Minardi in 1999. Zanardi meanwhile drove a whole season in a Williams which was able to reach podiums and Ralf even could have won a race at the Nurburgring. So Zanardi remains for me as the worst F1 driver in the last 25 years at least
