I was there. That moment was one of the coolest things I’ve ever been apart of. Over 20,000 people singing every word to a Tyler Childers song that isn’t even on one of his albums. I remember thinking at that moment, “Country music is as alive as its ever been.”
I’ve been in the coal mines of eastern ky for 16 yrs. Struggling with addiction to this day I’m 10 yrs sober but it’s not been an easy road. This song really hits home hard.
being a former coal miner and my family being entrenched in coal mining this is a superbly powerful song that many miners know all to well. how this young man sings about life is chilling.
Yes man, I was 17 years when I drove to the bottom of a massive open pit coal mine west of Cologne in the lignite coal rich region of the Rhineland in Germany. All older coal miners and millwrights had bad backs and sore knees but they kept going and they taught me lessons I will never forget. Here I am, 59 years old and working in a copper-gold mine in the northern wilderness of British Columbia, surrounded by beautiful mountains and scenery. Worked for 14 years in the arctic digging up diamonds and pumping oil out of the ground in Alberta and I have seen and maintained the largest man-made diggers in the world, the 288 bucket-wheel excavator in the Hambach Coal Mine in Germany. It was a monster of a machine, 279 feet high and standing between the massive crawlers while it was slowly creeping over the ground with its 14,000 Metric Tonnes of weight, still gives me the shivers. God bless all miners and god bless our countries. We need it........
I can see and hear the hopelessness in your words of memory. The days of drudgery with nothing to look forward to no matter the occasion. The low standard of living and complete lack of expectations that's so tangible in those rural eastern communities. Heavy smoking and often hard drinking and plenty of drugging. Abuse and neglect were the root of many bonds. Who could blame those that lived that sorrowful life to turn the destructive behaviors of addiction? To never once look outside the oppressive misery that surrounded and imagine a better place a better brighter community with good health and clean water. The failures were passed down from generation to generation so that was all that became known. To be sure there was a lucky few who were born with the movitation and intelligence to escape it. I imagine how they must've felt once gone. The disappointment, oh the utter disappointment.
And being there in person I can tell you that the standing ovation at the end went way longer the the video shows. One of the coolest things I’ve seen in live music.
I put this song on the way to work when I’m framing houses below zero. Song about work ethic and being a good man are rare. Thank you Tyler for blessing the world with this song.
It’s truly a great work song, my dad was a master carpenter and eventually resorted to pain killers and his way of life. But I always sing this song to myself from when I’m doing construction or serving tables to try to motivate myself into going to school again after my dad has tried encouraging me since graduating high, so that I don’t have to deal with the physical pain of the work. But also it’s way easier to make quick good money working hard jobs than going to college.
Tyler is the brightest and most talented song writer/singer of his generation. His lyrics are an honest & pure vision of his life of addiction, recovery , faith and love His poignant lyrics, solid beat of his music & the honest & genuine vocals will carry on for generations to come
He KEEPS a good band too . they are tight , . . .enuff , we are in a honky tonk afterall . they keep it country , even when there Jammin out . GooD Chit .!
It's been a wonderful season having fans like you solidly behind me, this is my way of saying thank you to the people who brought me this far❤️. I hope you don't stop listening and supporting me ☺️
Was watching the start of Yellowstone and heard this song. I don't listen to much Country and Western (smooth jazz, old R and B, and slow jams) but this is a beautiful song that can hit the soul
I was in rehab in NH, and there was this kid Sam that would sing this song to us in the morning on his guitar. We would all smoke cigarettes and listen to him play. This song means so much to me. Shortly after rehab Sam overdosed and died. He loved you so much!
If country music were actually like this I would listen to it. A real story that is resonating with real people. Here's a guy singing out the struggles of where's he's from in his home state. The crowd shot you see real people singing along in sorrowful way, not a bunch of basic suburbanites who only listen to 'country' as an excuse to get drunk in a field. This song is not at all my story but it is clearly a bunch of other peoples. this is awesome.
My son's been working them strings to the bone and at 15 he's come a long way, all those songs and all those years, I feel proud taking after Tyler's insane guitar ethic might not be in vain
I just heard Tyler Childers for the first time today on the 2021 Farm Aide concert. I was totally blown away. I have seen his name but never listened because most new country artists are mediocre. Not this guy. So glad I found him.
Last live show we got to see before lockdown last March. Sure would love to have my first show when things open up be Tyler again!! Can’t wait to see him again!!!
Can’t wait for the day we can go see Tyler live again. So many great artists I’ve discovered during COVID that I must see live someday. Tyler, Charley Crockett, and many others.
I had tickets to the Philly show. Canceled two days before due to Covid. Man I wish they’d release a dvd or stream a show from this tour. Seeing this gave me chills. I couldn’t imagine actually being in the building. Truly amazing.
It was amazing man, in the video you hear the crowd go silent and that’s really how it went! After he finished this song the crowd carried on for 15 minutes cheering it was outstanding!
About five years ago Sturgill opened for old crow medicine show at a local brewery by me. Long story short I blacked out at the show and lost my wallet (full cashed paycheck in it) my handkerchief and a pound of change. I thought it was gone for good. Over a month later I got a box in the mail from kentucky. Somehow my drunk ass was hanging out in sturgills camp after the show and they sent me all my belongings when they were done touring, pound of change included with a nice letter. Best memory I'll never have.
@@tterryshenanigans1820 Some of the best nights of my life are the same ones that I can't remember. Do you still have the letter? If so, you should post it.
This was by far the best show I’ve ever attended, I just wish I was smart enough to take someone else with me that would have been more fun, instead of a petty ex, during this song you hear everyone go completely silent and it gave me chills so severe, you can even feel it through this video
I quit listening to country, unless it was the older stuff. Thank God there’s a man with raw talent and a voice that gave me chills singing real, heartfelt music, whatever you want to call it. I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this guy sooner. Huge fan already!!
Fantastic show!! Me and mine was there tuned in to the right wavelength that night. Totally cosmic at times, knees got weak more than once!! Would love for this whole performance to be released.
Tyler was the last concert I attended before they shut it all down. He opened for Sturgill Simpson but I was there for Tyler Childers in North Charleston, SC!!! I can't wait to see you again Tyler Childers!!!! ❤❤❤
Why am I barely hearing your songs! GREAT VOICE like that's not even the right word but it's 1 of many. Keep lord in your heart man 1 day at a time is all we can do.
Seen him at the vinyl Pensacola Florida, got there early and was standing right there at the stage. He is an incredible preformer. Love his music so nice to see him doing well.
I stopped listening to new country music when Shania Twain became big. That was a long time ago. Tyler Childers is the first country singer to peak my interest since then. I dig him, I like his style, and listen, really listen, to his music like I listen to John Prine. He makes me happy and sad and that is alright by me.
Just heard this song for the first time and holy fuck this is amazing shit. Colter brought me here, another real country singer. If u dont know who Colter is then go away
the reason we love you is because you write and play your own words. Keep being you, keep making your own music. We will follow you. We have so far, you still keep delivering. You and your words +you and your guitar are enough. Keep doing it we as fans love it. It's like Neil Young live at Massey Hall.
I miss all live Shows. Missed seeing tyler in Washington State in May of 2020. So Close But yet So Far. Hope things turn around up here in Canada and the Border opens to Non- essentiel travel
Saw him perform this live at the Red Rocks. So powerful growing up in a small East Tennessee town that was torn apart by pills but somehow I made it out.
13 months sober. I owe so much of it to this man and his music. This song in particular.
still brings tears to my eyes.
congratulations, that's no easy task. hope you're at 16 months now and still doing well❤

Good point. I'd call it folk music, but what ever it's called, it's awesome. Tyler Childers has a great voice, lyrically as well as vocally.

This kid mesmerizing a whole fkn arena with nothing but an acoustic guitar and a microphone. He'll be considered the GOAT one day. He already is imo
Especially after watching old videos of him playing songs in the corners of bars with everyone talking and barely paying attention.
