Back at it working on Travis' stuff from Camel Tow Yard. This Pettibone has been through the ringer and neglected, used and abused. After I am finished it is running like a top... Now just how am I going to fit this project in the shop?

I grew up in the back end of a tool and equipment rental store.
One day you might be repairing an electric drill, next day a lawn mower, then a towable compressor, then a tracked excavator or dozer.
It’s all the same, just bigger or smaller.
Then you start building / fabricating.
Skills come and you become like Merlin, and the world becomes simple.
    Ain’t but a thing.
Unfortunately skilled trades are going away.
Soon the world won’t have people like us, be a sad day indeed.

I used to work for company that rented anything and everything pneumatic. I remember tearing down all kinds of tools to replace seals and repaint.

Yep, I had Pasload factory training, we did all the rebuilds for the pneumatic guns and all the nails came to our warehouse and we shipped all over the country.
Also Ingersol Rand factory training to rebuild / service all pneumatics and compressors. Abrasive blasting.
      Chipping hammer and jackhammer bits.
Factory training for Bosch electric’s, Milwaukee, Porter Cable, Makita, Stihl, and probably a few I forgot.
All kinds of training on Diamond cutting blades.
      Couple of pressure washer brands.
4-5 brands of manlifts. Wisconsin Robin, Honda power. 3-4 brands of forklifts. Case.
      Ditch Witch. Bobcat.
Serviced all our pickups, rollbacks, our Peterbuilt.
Never a dull moment, service, repair, power washing. Writing rental contracts, answering phone, deliveries, you did it all.
      Loved every minute of it.

What do you want to use as a Donaldson nano fiber, technology, air filters arguably the best you can get forget KNM and stuff like that. It’s OK for the race track. I’m talking about the KNN but not for doing what some of you guys do when you got an engine you have to start with the ether because the fuel doesn’t get up to the injectors quickly use some WD-40 with that Smurfette put the WD-40 in first but it lubricate the rings and destination all that stuff all right this is six in a row Jim from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania❤❤🎉

that talcum powder sand also gets into every "factory sealed" bearing. I bought a pickup truck in Cape Coral Fla. And believe me, by the time I had driven it back to Michigan I had to stop on the way home and have the front wheel bearings replaced. And after I got home I had to replace every pulley, water pump, alternator, power steering pump, and many other "factory sealed" seals. All because of 1200 to 2000 grit powder sand getting in. White sand from Ft. Meyers beach getting run over as it blew across the roadway into cape coral.

Sweet tighten up on that petibone lift all and it sounds terrific now .did that have a double dry filter or was it a wet filter with low oil. I only asked as dads old 60 willeys had a wet filter but the first 2 original heads had tons of dust in the F head carb throats and we lucked into a near new head with new guides and seals the fella looked over our 2 old ones one was bad the other was total junk but both rebuildable he had one a customer left there after the work was done because he felt the rebuild should have been cheaper we paid him for his work and wanted to give him more but he was happy to get paid for the job done. He did call the owner of the near new head and he said do what ever you want with it i bought a new one. Which we know wasnt cheap we hoped he got the upgraded version as opposed to the origanal stock format.

It’s always nice to have friends that own or run the local salvage yard. It something cool comes in, you’re the first call they make.
Here on the east coast, most salvage yards have become dismantling yards where they remove the straight sheet metal, engine, transmission, and differential, then the rest gets crushed. You don’t typically find vehicles there longer than 90 days.

    • @alfredocarpaneto5976

Probably because they rust out so quickly and the auto wrecking business in the east is all run like a mafia deal, only the right people can get into the business because it is cornered for the most part.

About 25 years ago, the states started taxing the yards on titled vehicles. They send an agent out with serialized stickers and tie them to the vehicle VIN. It’s a tax thing. Once the title gets returned to DMV, the yard gets $10-15 per title turned in.
Can’t speak for NY, NJ, but anyone (business can purchase from insurance auctions) and with the right property zoning open a yard. The EPA highly regulates them, refrigerants, oils and fuel.

Rings were half the width of the ones in the band-aid ring job that did wonders & brought mpgs up from low 40s to mid 50s is on it's way out since the cylinders are egged & now is back to only the lower 40s again.
