Merlin is the cool uncle everyone wants to have fun with... 😁😎🤟
Merlin is 100% like my cool uncle that i idolized and ended up become just like. Teaching that to my Nephew now.
Yes, if he doesn’t adopt me, I am willing to adopt!
100 years ago my great grandfather bought two model T s in Detroit. He and my Grandfather who was 16 at the time drove them with the whole family to Pasadena California. He told me the hardest part of the trip was holding the pedal in low gear for two days going over the mountains.
Cool story!
@@KrisD007 It's fascinating to think about details of "motoring" 100 years ago, that are just lost to history if we don't record the stories of our aunts, uncles, and grandparents... and if we're really lucky, our great-grandparents! My dad just turned 98 a few days ago and he's the "baby" of his family now. We have several of our close relatives writing down as many of those old stories as we can, while we can. Me dad has two older sisters that still enjoy pointing out his misbehaviors from the mid-twenties and on. It is fun!
That's a pretty amazing story. I couldn't imagine driving 30MPH all the way to Cali from Detroit. 11 hours to Myrtle Beach doing 70-80 is bad enough! How long did it take them for the whole drive?
I have never seen an in depth instruction on a Model T. That is incredibly crazy and completely opposite of anything modern. Thanks for taking us along for another great ride.
The look on her face when that Model T got moving was cool. Good times. Then the look on both their faces when they were hitting that throttle on the diesel golf cart.. imagine Merlins photo album of all his past builds.
How cool is that!! To have Alex and Dennis to stop by is pretty awesome!!
Lots of patience and clear instructions provided by Merlin.👋
Awesome to see Alex Taylor racing in the house. It's a good feeling when you can impress somebody like them. It's nice to see the best of the best hanging out together. Thanks for sharing.
The one time I meet Alex at Tulsa race way park, she was rude and stuck up acting. I quit following her and have no idea why she acted that way.🤔
@@michaelmcclure8673 Weird. I met her and Dennis at 131 dragway for Drag Week in 2018 and again talked to them for a bit at either Ohio or Indiana track on Drag Week in 2021. Were perfectly cordial.
Seeing Alex's reaction to the hot rod was priceless. Merlin always has the cool visitors which add something to the videos.
Always look forward to a new upload from Merlin!
It was awesome 2 hear Alex giggle smile an laugh like a child. Great story behind that boat engine an bless u 4 giving it back 2 the family.
I have been watching your channel before I even knew that Paul was your cousin, I actually think I might have been watching you before fab rats. And to see Alex and Dennis at your home and the interaction with you guys was just awesome...
Nice episode with your visitors Merlin! Keep them coming and keep growing!
Until the next time!
Stay safe healthy and happy 👍
This is partly why cast iron is used very often to build water control valves. Many folks don't realize literally every town in the US uses water control valves built from cast iron. Seems like the corrosion is the worst right at the water line where they get oxygen. But when they're submerged full time, it's almost like they have less oxidation and the metal lasts a lot better.
. Rust is literally Oxidization, needs oxygen to happen. The bottom of the lake is extremely low in oxygen
I think because of the difference water flow from blue sand and clay may help preserve the engine a little better internally with the oil my guess
Crankcase went under full of blowby, a lack of oxygen is the only explanation for the lack of corrosion. I've seen it before but never such a good example.
Must have used some of the engine parts as sacrificial anodes.
@@theservant752 yep, that too. There were hunks of aluminum/zinc in contact that were toasted. The carb sacrificed itself to save the rest 😂. Every outboard motor usually has an actual anode attached for the same thing.
its always great to see the younger generation be interested in classics the look of joy in her face was great
Alex's face when she gets the T up to speed. Pure joy, and a little bit of mischievous twinkle in the eye!
Oh that was so so cool. Toy's and more Toy's. ✌👍
"Oh my GOSH! What a small world...my favorite racer & her dad both at Merlin's house. I am jealous!"
It's very nice that you had Alex and her dad on the channel 👍🤟 Saw her for the 1st time on Cleetus channel, i then subscribed to her Yt and Insta and i love watching her race! Her and her dad are both nice people to watch :)

Alex and Dennis are great people I watch most of their videos. But what's really cool is how all the hotrod people on RUclips are friends. That's why I love car people their all great folks.
Great driving instructor 🙂
Thanks for the content and efforts
I keep going back and re-watching this video... so much fun! I'm also learing how to drive a model T Sooo Cool!
watta operation just to drive them things no wonder henry ford started changing things so early in the car game ! absolute treat just to watch thanks merlon n alex 🤗👍
Nextdoor neighbor when I was growing up had a 1916 model T Touring Car. He originally cranked it with his thumb over the crank handle as you do. Until it kicked back one time and broke his wrist. After that, he always cranked without his thumb over the crank - always under. If it kicked back it just pulled the crank out of his hand. No broken bones. Just sayin'.
Great video Merlin, A man and all his toy's! Always look forward to every video!
hey merlin love your videos, your so knowledgeable its second nature to you.
your uncle would be so proud. god bless you and your family.....
Merlin’s got a nice Model T. It looks like it would be a workout on a hilly long trip, but fun to drive. Much respect.
This young lady is amazing, Her Father has got to be super proud of his baby girl. Thanks for sharing your experience and time.
We Absolutely Love ALL of your videos Brother.
Congratulations on OVER 100,000 Subscribers

Great Video Merlin..That Young Lady was Funny when she started the old T...LOL..HAHA...
That's pretty cool Merlin!
JUST YOUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MOTORS ETC. BLOWS ME AWAY!
Awesome seeing the joy in one’s face when operations these oldies! The more I see this oldie of yours the more I could use your help with my 1908 IH.
1908 IH you have my attention now wow that is cool 😎
@@MerlinsOldSchoolGarage yes sir, family owned since 1912ish and right here in LHC! She could use a little love but I don’t know where to get it around here. One of the issues is the crank starter assembly decided to partially come apart, she last ran down the local Veterans Day parade 3 years ago before the coils gave out midway down the blvd. Like I mentioned before I will pay you for your time if you’re interested?
Damn Merlin I think you enjoy teaching more than building and we know you love that!
The golf cart is awesome
"It's got more power than Brakes" spoken like a true old school hot rodder lol
Awesome video that young lady had a blast. Made this old man smile. God bless
Alex Taylor is the best thing that has happened to TV in decades- What an intelligent, beautiful young lady- Love her on HOT ROD GARAGE!!!! Bob H., Flat Rock, N.C.
I love Alex. She is like the coolest chick out there. I also love the fact her and her Dad have the most amazing relationship. Also thank you Merlin for the lesson on how to drive a Model T. Extremely interesting.
Hey Merlin you really make me laugh every time I see your videos and the KNOWLEDGE IS INCREDIBLE YOU ROCK BROTHER love you Brother thank you for sharing your life ❤👍💪🏻✌️
One of my favorites visits another favorite! How cool!
I was just on vacation in Havasu and I wish I could have stopped by for a visit. I dig the content and always informative. keep it up.
Best explanation of the Model T transmission that I have been exposed too. I believe I understand it. FINALLY.
History ! Wonderful History . Thanks for sharing !
That motor is so unbelievable the science of how it servived needs it's own documentary.
You're a good teacher Merlin.
Love Alex and her Dad great collaborators. Awesome Family interaction just like you.
Merlin, thanks for sharing and a driving lesson. Just a thought of driving, the fact that you drove nothing ever before might of made it easier to learn all the precedures. See you next time stay safe 👍
Good times with good people 👍
I see the Yellow Submarine there. They tell me Lake Powell is filling up again. Glad Paul, Ben and yourself got her sorted out, while you still could.
Oh boy "if you can start it you can drive it" brings back a cool memory. When I was 13yrs my first job picking roots on a 3/4sec. By hand. For a farm 91/2 hrs greyhound ride from home. 1 month in I wanted to go to town with my pay 600$ (1 month 12-14 hrs a day Sunday off). The farmer pointed to a old gmc public
works truck (crew cab about 1960) and said " if you can start it you can drive it" well a couple hrs later I was going to town ( i was 13yr old the town cops didn't think I was a smart as I thought I was haha.)
The Yellow submarine was awesome one of the best in my opinion and I know Alex and her father Dennis Taylor anyway keep up the great content man your channel rocks.
Cool golf cart
i enjoy watching you with all of your patience very entertaining!!
I am real glad I didn't have to learn how to drive one of though old cars it seems takes a lot more concentration to drive and control. Good job Alex driving it and you as well teaching her.
Your a natural teacher Merlin
"You have a lot of stuff that can kill you" classic!
The smile on her face!
Thanks for the Viedo. It was great to see you pass down some knowledge. Very few today can drive a T.
That grin and giggle is pure motoring enjoyment.
Old school garage is officially a professional RUclipsr u did it without even trying u are a natural
Cool car brother, old school for sure. Let's burn some rubber in that monster. He,he,he,. Latter brother. Devo on the block
Wow!!! That would be so much fun to learn how to drive that!!!!
Very Fun!
My wife also wants “more Wren”.
Thanks Merlin, was nice to see the updates and the wonderful surprise you gave those boat owners. Love the golf cart. ty
Great Video Merlin. I love how you like to share your toys. It is what I do here at Pee Paw's Scooter Shop. Keep 'em coming, thanks for amazing videos.
That was cool. Instructor Merlin. Haha.
Thanks for the Model T driving lesson
Great video, she looks like she was having fun
I never expected her to be on your channel. 🔥🔥🔥
I'm so jealous!!! My buddies uncle had a sweet model T and I always wanted to drive it but we never got to take it anywhere to drive it.
I got to drive one of them the other day. It was not stock but a hotrod V8 350 Chev. motor. I have painted cars for 30 plus years and I was looking at his paint (someone else did before he got it). They used no sealer, primer and just sprayed most likely enamel single stage. Everywhere was solvent popped and all the ones that had the bubble top gone was a speck of rust. and it was freckled everywhere. Other then that it is in remarkable condition. He had the door panels off and windows out except for the windshield. Looking into the door panels there was no rust. The only rust I saw was on the drivers side rear window edge and it was surface. There was hardly any dents just the rear panel around the back window and the lower quarter on drivers side. The dents were door ding and slightly larger on the quarter. Easy fix. I have not done anyone's personal vehicle in years as I got burnt out. His 20's Model A made me excited to do it and preserve it.
Great video! Alex was a trooper! Merlin didn't cut her any slack, let her learn her way through the unknown. She is a tough young lady!
I had a Uncle that was a Model T guy , Haven't heard the term "Reverser" in 23 years. I think the story was he ran a Continental engine capable of 65 mph !
😊🏁🔧
That was so fun to watch. Love this channel.
Happy New Year Merlin !!
Def the best teaching/explanation on the Model T I’ve seen. Can understand what it takes and understand how unnatural it is compared to modern.
That was an enjoyable video! Thank you
Love that golf cart!
Love it merlin Alex is a blast
Merlin the Magician
Just WOW!!!!
Merlin is the most patient cool cat how exciting for Alex what a treat!
Some have the gift of teaching..... Merlin definitely has it. Great job.
Thank you Mr Merlin, another enjoyable video. With the Kubota diesel you have in the Golf cart, I have the flywheel bolt circle dimensions if you need to make adapters for any other projects. I make them for Cub Cadet CV driveshaft conversions. Jeff
I love that golf cart
So cool
This was fun to watch. I knew nothing about the complexity of driving the OLD cars. The oldest car I ever drove was 50s. Thanks for this. It was very cool..
Always good to teach a younger generation about the old cars were about. This knowledge needs to be passed on before it is lost.
Glad I caught your channel on Fab Rats and the yellow submarine. I enjoy your content.
Good job, good instructor, c good instructions.
so many toys, awesome man cave lol.
Love the content, keep the vids a rollin, much appreciated. Thank you
Love your videos! Thank you Merlin!
I loved watching Alex's enthusiasm for driving the Model T. And you are a great instructor.
