- @MerlinsOldSchoolGarage is starting to lose it he has been cooped up in this model A for too long! Will he get stuck on the train tracks in Kansas? He might just stay and settle! Who knows what he is up to now!
Thank you to our Sponsor @industrialinjection

I'm guessing that if you're selling a 1933 truck and a potential buyer rolls up in a model A, you have found the right kind of buyer. 🙂
Thanks for the shout, Merlin! You're right, Model A owners are different kind of people. Everyone wants to help all the time! When we joined MAFCA, it was like we got adopted into another family. Makes having an old car so much more enjoyable having all the support. Great job diagnosing the car!! You're a real Model A guy now!
Watching Merlin is like watching Bob Ross paint, I can't resist stopping to watch and he always fascinates.
I could not have said it better myself.
This is a perfect statement!! He is an artist in his own right!
That “twine” painted on the sidewalk, was a whimsical touch.
Worst hail storm I ever saw was in Colorado Springs in 1974. I was sitting at a gas station across the street from a large grocery store. Strange part was that there was a deluge of hail across the street but nothing fell on my side of the street. It tore the roof out of a motorhome in front of the grocery store. Our motorhome didn't get a scratch.
Grandma would tell me about the monthly trip to the big city in their Model A. Usually took 2 hours to get half way, 23 miles. There was a road house here that had gasoline, tires, tubes, flaps, and patches. A mechanic if needed, and a little saw dust in the trans would quiet that down. By now Grandpa was adding details about the trip, patching a tire tube 1 or 2 times was common for each round trip of 86 miles on sand, dust, mud, and dirt roads. Exchanging spark plugs for a used set that was freshly sand blasted and "rebuilt" kept things putting along. We enjoy your expedition and don't forget the sawdust.
In the late 1920's early 30's my Grandmother and friends used to drive from Cinnaminson N J. to Cape May N.J. A distance of about 100 miles. She said it took over 4 hours. It was dirt or sand roads and you had to pull over and stop to let another car pass. A train would be faster, but this was about adventure! They left home it was still dark out. N.J. is densely populated. They likely averages 20 -25 mph. That is what a model A was driven at most of the time when new. Towns had paved roads but, speed limits. Driving 40 mph+ hour after hour was unheard of!
Really enjoying the trip with You. Thanks for bringing us along. Loving how You manage the road side repairs. Safe travels.
This has been such an incredible series/trip to watch. I was just thinking that there must be a VERY short list of people alive today that has actually made this cross country trip in a Model A. Thank you SO much for taking us along with you.
We’re really enjoying this series with you and the wife on the road. I was sad when you hit Colorado because I realized your adventure is winding up 😢 Thanks for filming this trip!
I'm can't describe the enjoyment I'm getting from watching your trip back home. Having a model A has always been a dream of mine so I'm thankful for you sharing this experience with your viewers.
Thank u so much Merlin for taking us with u and ur lovely wife! Such a amazing road trip
Loving this adventure Merlin… you are showing us the part of America that is often overlooked in todays fast paced society.! Thanks for taking us along.
Can’t wait to see the Diamond T build.!!
Love it !
Cars sitting under the underpass and here comes a Model A..........
Put...put....!
👀 🤣
That old 1933 truck build is going to be fun to watch!
Merlin, I am hereby nominating Desiree for Sainthood. Not just for enduring the trip but for tolerating your sense of humor. 😅
Yep, if Merlin built a ranch, might call it the, “Smokin’ M Ranch.”
That 1933 is going to be a wicked cool build! 💪 Can't wait for this!
Merlin, ive never owned a Model A or T. Im 44 and I was born into Air-cooled Volkswagens. Not in one, into them.. lol. But we're the same way. My personal goal in life is to bring as many Air-cooled Volkswagens out of the fields and barns and get them back on pavement. I literally just revived a 1965 Split Window Volkswagen Bus, yesterday!! Just north of Questa, NM. Its my passion. Im semi retired by default so I need to keep myself moving. I would say 97% of the Volkswagen community would get out of bed at 3 am and drive 2 hours to help a veeduber in need. Anywho, happy trails..
Hey timothy miller here thank you for taking my dad's Merrill millers model A on a wonderful adventure totally cool
This series has been amazing. It’s going to be sad to see this journey end. The drag n drive guy’s don’t have shit on you. This here is a heck of an accomplishment. I would love to see you purchase another relic and go across country again. Making memories with your wife and meeting great people on the way. Thank you for sharing.
Well he could do a drag and drive, probably faster than some cars. Match race with the Franklin!
The fake bug bite had me in tears lol
That must have been a sight. All those people hiding under that bridge in modern cars, then here you come and just toodle on by them like it is nothing!
Miles and miles of almost flat country, I miss long distance travelling. Enjoying riding along with you, thanks.
What a beautiful trip! I've been so busy I've missed out on the last two videos. I've now watched those two & onto this one! What an absolutely amazing trip!! This is definitely something a lot of us dream of doing! Thanks for sharing this with us! Small town America 🇺🇸 is absolutely beautiful. Loved that old cabin you guys stopped at from the early 1800's! So many epic sites. Memories for a lifetime! So glad you guys got to take this trip 💯😊
That ball of twine was crazy!! That old timer definitely had some patience to keep going with that! Thanks for sharing 😎
When you’re struggling with your cooling fan and your girl says, “I have another one in my suitcase.”
"You can worry a thing to death!"
I haven’t dealt with points in 30 years. Thanks for bringing all the nightmares back! 😂
Great shot of Desiree and the “A” on the train tracks. All she needed was a Thompson .45 to be a gun moll…
Ever since I seen Steve Darnell build a Diamond T for a customer, I fell in love with these old trucks, I can't wait for the series and will be looking forward to it. Thanks Merlin and wife for taking us along on your epic road trip.
What an epic journey! You are the right guy to make this trip. Thanks so much for taking us along with you. I hope the rest of it went as well as you're done so far. Its so neat seeing some of these out of the way and unique attractions and towns.
my favorite thing about roadtrips as a kid in the early 80's was all the cool roadside attractions. I'd just stare out the back window of the station wagon ,in awe of the things Americans could build .
Thanks for taking us along, Merlin & Desiree. I live in a small farm town in southeast Nebraska & it looks like you were about 50 miles from me. I hope you enjoyed the mid-west, its a pretty welcoming place.
Brought back a lot of memories of vacations in a 53 Buick and a 60 Ford with no A/C driving across miles and miles of flat farm land asking my Dad are we there yet. Very boring as a kids driving back east.
That Model A driving and surviving a huge hail storm and flood when modern cars pulled off under the bridge is a testimony to how great antique were designed Cudo’s
Mr. Henry Ford👍👍🇺🇸
The world’s biggest ball of twine… Well… thank God we didn’t miss that.
I remeber my grandfather saying on a trip he had to back up the hills because fuel was gravity fed. 2 Days from central new York to new Jersey. Times have sure changed.
How many times in your life can you say you've heard a beautiful woman say I have an extra fan in my suitcase:) Thanks for another great video!
Yes indeed.
A four blade fan for a Model A.
So that really was you I saw at the intersection of Hwy 183 and Hwy 24 in Stockton Ks. I remember commenting to my wife that the driver looked familiar, and explaining to her about how that car is around 90 years old and still kicking. That’s the closest I’ve ever came to meeting a celebrity in my life.
😂😂😂 was not expecting seeing the world’s largest ball of twine, you’ll never see that traveling cross country in a big old jet airplane, thanks Merlin for taking us on this road trip😀🇺🇸
Boy what an adventure!!! The Diamond T will be a fun project !! Best of luck to you !
So many things to see if you get off the interstate. You are truly blessed to meet so many wonderful people during your adventure. The best one sitting beside you along the way. The Diamond T is a great find. Thank you for sharing the adventure.
Merlin, you gotta put a electronic distributor in your Model A, no more points problems. There are many available.
What an adventure. Love following your old antique builds, being that I am a 76 yr old antique. Thanks for sharing. Richard Hutchings.
What a fantastic journey you are taking us on Merlin. Can't imagine how cool and relaxed you are doing it in a 100 year old car though!
Wanted to do this trip with my 18 year old & now I know why I haven't....
Now that's living, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a wee bit envious. Thanks for the ride!
Reminds me of when gas stations used to pump gas and get your windshield. There was only a few places left but it was cool. Like the old baseball cap.
Old farmers trick. ..... Get an onion and cut it half and rub it on your windshield, it works like rain X.
I wished I'd known you were coming through Colorado Springs. I would have liked to come to where you were so my grandchildren could meet you, Desiray, and the Model A. I would have liked it myself as I'm the fan. I would have also followed you up Pikes Peak in case you needed anything. Right now though I'm in our winter home in Casa Grande, AZ. Yes I know it is summer and hotter than an egg frying on the sidewalk. It's been around 115 degrees during the day for over five weeks. I'm normally in Colorado at this time but, my wife passed away in December and we had been in Colorado for her doctor's. About four years of doctors and hospitals until my darling wife left me. Truly the saddest day of my life. I'm still trying to make it from day to day.
In Arizona because the townhouse needed some attention. The garage door opener quit working so my neighbor stopped putting my mail in the house. The door was just closed and not latched so someone could have just walked into the garage and house. Got the opener replaced when it only needed programmed but, the repair man didn't know how to program the unit. Had he contacted the manufacturer he could have had the programming text to my phone. Then he could have programmed it in the time it took him to install the new unit.
Sorry to rattle on but when you don't have someone to talk to you tend to rattle when you get to talk to someone.
Good luck on the rest of your trip. I may swing by after I get a few other things done here.
25:58 🤣
They are smart taking shelter, but I just love it when you guys go sailing by in the Model A.
I enjoy the road trip videos Merlin. What an adventure!
I had to laugh my ass off at everyone cowering under the bridge in their modern cars ... and Merlin in a 100 year old Model A just keeps driving like its a normal day!
That Diamond T is pretty!
Looking forward to Pikes Peak!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I feel so privileged that Merlin & Desiree are bringing us along back in time 1931 model A going cross country. The best road trip you two can cross off your bucket list. Your smiles say it all that model A is perfect for you two. 😄😄🇺🇲😄😄
Wow, those Diamond T 's are a rare find👍🤠👍
Cant wait for the build....
You should of used RainX on the windshield plus it helps removing bugs easier.
The adventure of Merlin & Desiree!!! Great stuff!!
My sister & I drove from Myrtle Beach to Rapid City to Tulsa & back to South Carolina. We stopped at the ball of twine & it was October, so they did the ball up like a Jack-O-Lantern. Ah, memories.
Kansas ... I've driven through it ... miles & miles of miles & miles
Worlds largest ball twine, awe inspiring. Merlin
A whole line of modern vehicles hunkered down under an overpass for protection from the storm but the model A soldiers on. (Model A don't see no stinkin storm!). Hope they felt embarrassed.
About 60 years ago (when I was about 10 or 11) I was on a road trip with my dad and we stopped to see the World's Biggest Ball of Twine! Amazing it is still there in the same town. It did not take much to amaze kids back in those days! Ahhh, the long days in the back seat, no A/C so we had to travel with the windows all down. fighting with my two brothers, having to split a dime bottle of Orange Crush pop with them at filling stations (my dad was too cheap to give us each a dime so we could have our own bottle of pop). The joys of travel before interstate highways!
Such an awesome journey! That hail was crazy! Hopefully the model A came out with no damage! Looking forward to the next video!
Merlin you are the man! I wouldn’t make that drive in a new car.
Best part.... Every body parked under the bridge and Merlin didn't even slow down!
Desiree and Merlin, you two make a wonderful couple traveling along the rural highway. Love this trip of yours. So glad we met you two in Moab last EJS season.
Great trip! And a 33 D-T! Rural/small town Kansas has changed little in the ;last 60-70 years, if it wasn't for the. newer vehicles you might think you were in the 30s! Thanks for taking us along!
Merlin this has been a lot of fun to watch, the sites, road side adjustments and the vintage photo opportunities. Desiree is a wonderful woman to take such a journey with all that goes on during this trip. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Great video, looking forward to the Diamond T project, very cool old truck.
keep her running Merl,loving it.
Love the suicide doors on the 33 Half Diamond T Truck. and really excited to se it worked on and made whole again.
there is so many pictures on Google to see what this truck looked like new. Very nice find Merlin !!
Merlin Miss Desiree, thank you for including us in on your journey.
LOVED the Ball of Twine! LOL! My wife and I actually put a coat of paint on The World's Largest Ball of Paint in Alexandria, IN. You have to make an appointment with Mike who has been shepherding it for over 46 years, now - it weighs over 9,000 pounds! When you put the coat on (yes, YOU paint it) you then share the World Record - until the next coat.
Places you'd ever go ... without a Model A (or Geocaching® as we do) 😎
Your braver than I am. My A is same as your but with straw colored wheel, I wouldn't do this.
You’re working on the Model A and keeping it running reminds me of being a young man and working on family and friends cars from the 50’s and 60’s. Checking the cap or rotor for carbon streaks and cracks. Checking the points and condenser. Pulling the plugs in the winter and taking a torch and drying out the cylinders when it was flooded. Having someone work the choke on those cold mornings or using a screwdriver to hold it open when no one wants around.
I wouldn’t worry too much about taking up Pikes Peak but with those brakes I would be worried about getting down.
Thanks for bringing us along! I’m working overtime every weekend this summer and haven’t been able to get time for a vacation. This helps relieve my stress! I look forward to your videos every Sunday morning while I eat breakfast with my 84 year old father!
I don't know my diamonds, but soon as I saw it, I go that's a Diamond, either a "T" or a Rio. Now I'll tell you Merlin, that's my kind of truck, always wanted one like it with a big camper on there. I'm not a purest,so I'd like it to have all the running gear, brakes and such upgraded, but not like a rat rod, keep the original body. It'd look and run cool as hello...
Merlin You and Your wife, look good in the " A" enjoying Your trip. SHINE ON DIAMOND T! what a prize!
'
Warms my heart seeing You & Desiree out there 👍😎✊
Merlin always has a good nose for digging up the good old stuff. And make it run again. It's important to keep all that old knowledge around and teach young kids how it was done in the old days! 😎✌
Great bug collection.what a adventure you had with that car.
When your car was sitting on the RR tracks, you missed a shot. You could have taken a picture of one of you pushing the car across the tracks. Good series and I look forward to you getting home.
This whole series has been so much fun, love it
Merlin your bride is a real trooper. She’s a keeper! Thanks for sharing the journey.
So relaxing to watch your journey. It warms my heart. Old school cruising through modern era
Your wife is a great trooper to put up with your crazy ness
Merlin thank you no one does that anymore. There is no time for a drive. I used to love to drive I been in 48 states driving. Alaska and Hawaii didn't do it. Merlin thank you
Coming from the land of trees I would always get a pine tree air freshener to hang from the mirror when I travelled.out west through the land of no trees. Thanks guys.
Merlin and Desiree, this series will be one of your best thus far. Nothing better than back roads USA🇺🇸 👍.
Desiree, how about clocking a few miles behind the wheel. We can put up with Merlín riding shotgun for awhile.
Safe travels
I’m loving this series for the car, the scenery and all the wonderfully unique things you show along the way…including that truck! 👌💕👍💕👏
Adding my appreciation to taking us along for the ride as you and Desiree bring the car back to AZ! What a great road trip! I've always said that one needs to travel the two-lane highways in a state to really see a state.
For half a second I thought that was a Dodge Brothers truck but it didn't quite look right. Made perfect sense when you said what it was. Can't water to see what you do with it.
Really enjoying being taken along on your ride across America. Thanks
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Merlin and Mrs. Merlin.
I lived at the base of Pikes Peak off the road to Cripple Creek for a year! Beautiful country! Cripple Creek has wild donkeys that live loose around the town.
Thanks for the Sunday morning ride along.
Looks like a good time and a new project in the works.
Merlin I definitely can’t wait to see the build on the diamond T for sure!!! They kinda remind me of the good old flat fender trucks!!! Just really amazing piece of history for sure!!! And they definitely don’t make trucks like they used to for sure!!! All the old trucks were made with some real metal that would last much longer than todays tin and even plastic body panels!!! This build should definitely be an awesome build!!! It’s also good to see someone even keep stuff around so that parts can be made also because when they are all gone it is definitely much harder to copy something that isn’t around!!! Remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!
What great videos you are doing. Love the way you are seeing America 🇺🇸 . This is a the only way to see the real America and the way to meet the down to earth people who represent the hard working middle class
Great videos Merlin. The Mrs looks pretty today too.
Colorado Springs, my hometown! I was last there in 1975 or 76. I'd like to get back there at some point. Great find there too Merlin! Don't see too many Diamond T's anymore. I remember having a toy truck about that year vintage in the 60's. That coild be worth as much as the real truck now.
