- In this video we try to get a 2001 Gas Gas EC300 dirtbike running! It is a 300cc 2 stroke, appears mostly complete, but is in unknown mechanical condition. I have never owned a Gas Gas Motorcycle before, so didn't know what to expect with regard to how they are built and serviced or parts availability. There were a few surprises....

An hour long old bike revival? You're too good to us
Dude whatcha doing over here? It is always cool to see someone I am subscribed to in the comment section of another channel.
I see you on so many dirt bike channels ❤️✌🏼
Hope you enjoyed it, and awesome job hitting that triple!
OMG! DID JD AND JG JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS???
Haha u waited for the hour long he hasn't done much video witch is a shame he's very entertaining
This video felt like a throwback to the old days of Jennies Garage, loved it. Also, that type of water pump seal is very similar to the floating face seals used on Excavator Final Drives, also called a duo-cone seal. They're really durable and last a long time if kept clean.
Glad you liked the video! It looks like that type of seal is more robust than the rubber kind. And it doesn't leave grooves in the shaft.
Also the Same type of seal used on hot tub pump motors.
poolman here...what is this technology you may speak of? i only ask because " i no want fix no more" type 25+ years in its just annoying now ...Can this seal withstand more normal heat than a pool motor? Im asking is it new? Stopping leaks would help us all out right? Apoligize if i havent researched yet before i asked. It sounded cool. Couldnt resist that, and...well what if it works?
The previous owner thought it needed a clutch because it was bathed water and not gripping very well!
New Jennies Garage!!! This made my night!
Great you don't post anything for over 2 months now we have to wait for the ride video🤬😉
@@kelvinboyd7459it’s a hard life, mate.
these older videos were what inspired me to buy a dirtbike in the first place and now I love working on them
Same!
No way DUDE!!! 1h long vid out of nowwhere what a freaking legend, the hero we do not deserve lets get it!
Gotta say ,you've got some mad diagnostic skills. You nailed it!😊
Thank you! I felt like I goofed a few times, but that is part of the process.
Smackover Motorsports was the GasGas importer at the time the bike was new. The steering damper is from Drew Smith at Works Enduro Racing. The bike also has some decent period-correct upgrades - LT Racing power valve cover, larger gas tank. It's obvious that at some point the bike was valued and loved, before it was beat on and neglected.
These were absolutely incredible bikes back in the day, and will still stand up as a great woods bike. I just finished an engine rebuild on my 99 EC200, and it's back to riding the single track like the day it was new.
For those watching this later, Central Powersports Distribution carries the legacy GasGas parts inventory (now Rieju), and the water pump seal IS still available as a kit.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your knowledge about Gas Gas bikes.
Matto Cycle and Halls Cycles still have a lot of old GG parts in stock
1 hour long im in heaven!
Hope you like it!
@jenniesgarage I did! And to the comment about doing it the way you did, I have 😂 If you assume it runs then you won't get into a Existential crisis
A new dirt bike fixing video i can’t believe it I feel like it has been years
Quality over quantity...that's why we get excited when y'all post a new vid...it's always a treat ✌️
While I mostly agree, a more rapid cadence would not go amiss.
Machines frugally brought back to life. With a healthy side or corny jokes. This. This is what the people want!
Camera girl's sarcasm was fire today! Love watching your channel
The look on your face when it starts is pure joy
i posted my comment another before the bike started...the smile and camera girl reaction when it worked was absolutely amazing
I felt the happiness of pulling that kick starter!
The energy between you guys are so amazing and rare! An hour flew by way to fast! Hope to see more from you soon! 😀
Agreed! They are great together!
Been here 10yrs and still love the garage.
I think you proceeded properly. The milky oil problem had to be solved no matter what. Enjoyed this video, thanks!
Having no motorcycle mechanical knowledge I can’t say. But your judgement was Awesome
Thank you!
Beautiful Sunday, woke up to Jennies Garage, gonna be a good day!!
I always love watch Jennings garage its like im hanging out with a good buddy or a family member just working on bikes
I think you made all the right calls, you quickly found evidence, and then continued to find evidence proving your hunch was correct. That's how it's done.
I can just tell Christ lives you two! So much evidence with your light heartedness and patience
This is what I've been missing, the 2 of you always cheer me up and make me smile, and this time it for a whole hour. Thanks.
Glad you like the video!

" I question the man's mechanical aptitude. "
" Zoom in so they can smell too. "😂
The dub over is flawless. You two are perfect.
Thank you!
I love watching you repair these old bikes that other people have given up on. Great job!
I would watch your videos everyday! We love you guys keep pumping out the great content! We support you! ❤
Crazy thing is that water pump seal...its the same as pool motors. A porcelain to porcelain seal. Everyday folks...we learn something new. Also love you guys channel. The positivity the joke attempts, its all just genuine. Thank you. Keep em coming.
Pool service etc is my occupation not by choice its just what i know. But those seals...look identical to pool motors my guess is just a bit smaller. And as you said,,,being threaded backwards on empellars yes...is a thing. Some do have a screw in the center of that guy made of plastic that you can easily stripp out not knowing shes in backwards bud"Like the prop on a airplane. A pool motor is looking the same as i see here as far as seal and sealplate. No volute present for there is no pump pot.
Catching the fact that it hit the case due to damage on plastic...good eye. Very good eye. Exactly as you showed...if that seal gets hot and runs without water to cool them..or has that kind of movement allowed they have a fair reason to leak. Its porcelain im not entirely sure how it works not sure science does either but somehow it works without leaking lol...and the heat dissapation is highly pretty recommendedly decent in ceramic. Arent space shuttles made out of this coolness material?
its a tiny pool pump. h.3l yeah"
also kudos on that 3rd kick....you know u gotta redo all fuel from any purchase....but saving money on the part cleaning solution..from the crappy gas....i cant resubscribe? Upvote from me.
Bearing expert here. Answer to your question is: not much if any, definitely not that much.
Thanks for uploading. We'll look forward to next quarter's video. 😁
It will be sooner than that. I don't want to wait that long to try out old Hard Times.
Absolutely love these videos. You and Jennie are a hell of a team.
Thank you!
Always excited when you upload, nice long video too.
If you are interested in small engine repair/motorcycle mechanics this is the nr.1 channel to watch
Glad you like the videos, and thank you for the kind words.
That was very satisfying to watch! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
best 60 min of this week so far. THANK YOU BOTH
Glad you enjoyed it!
i recently started my dad's old bike, a 1983 honda v45 magna, after sitting for 5+ years. The happiness i felt hearing it start up, whilst it only being able to run on choke and nothing else, was still a huge win for me! seeing you happy that it started reminded me of that moment again, and its still an awesome feeling!
Yes it is a great feeling when you get an old machine running! I have heard those magnas were fast bikes.
Finally! A decent "will it run" video. Back to the roots! Keep it coming! This is the reason why we like your videos...
Amidst a plethora of worthy contenders, "robotic otter" was the true standout comedy gem.
"Somewhere between dangerous and impossible" 5:31 that's how a man's gotta live his life! Lol😅😂
You guys compliment each other, don't ever become complacent of that fact.I would have drained the oil, refilled, obviously ditched the gas and cleaned carb and got some commitment from the bike before I committed to it.Could have gotten burned for 40 bucks, but that did add a suspenseful cliffhanger for us out here in couch potato land.
Hey Billy Bob, y’all ain’t going believe what the cat drugg in through the door!
Thanks for the video Jennie & Jake ! Awesome to see you guys again.
Love to see you making those kind of videos again. I remember 18 year old me being asolutely facinated by what you're doing. 6 year later, still facinated but I started doing similar things. You inspired me questioning buying new things and trying to salvage used. Moreover I started an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic and now studying mechanical engeneering. Nowadays I constantly think about what I would do while watching and it became a pleasure of a diffrent kind for me. Thanks and keep going please!
Thank you for the great comment. From my point of view I'm just working on stuff. It is heartening to know that the videos may affect someone's life in a positive way. Congratulations on your accomplishments!
i havnt watched your videos in years, until youtube just recommended me this, I'm glad your still up to the same stuff and I hope all is going well
Glad you guys are back on track.
Great to see a new Jennie's garage video & yes I'd have done the same as you did in trying to fix it. Old hard times had bad gas & was telling you how to help.... Gas Gas, it's all in a name. Camera girl's heckling has gone up a notch too, excellent!
Yeah the answer was right there in front of me the whole time.
Glad you fix fixed it.
"Ah! There's the seal. I wonder how it works?"
"Erk, erk! "
This is why I watch you two. 😅😅
You just crack me up.
so awesome watching you and camera girl work on projects. just bought my first bike at 40 yrs old and im loving life
That is great to hear you are having a good time!
I liked your tenacity--that bike is now running great. Your knowledge is great--you deserve better tools/equipment.
Damn I don't have enough time to watch the whole episode this morning, but you bet I will be back this afternoon to finish it!
Was just thinking about you guys the other day and BAM here you are! I think you proceeded exactly as you should have. The second I saw that baby vomit oil I thought for goodness sakes don't try to crank. Bravo! Looking forward to the test drive. Soon I hope.
Robotic Otters! That was a good one! The interaction between the two of you is what makes this channel. It could be about anything.
I could watch you fix motorcycles any day any time any where. Love the vids.
Thank you!
My favourite youtube channel felt like the old videos.
As usual you did very well. Great fun to watch - many thanks for sharing.
OMG! So glad to see this. I need fix a drink, microwave some popcorn, go sit in front of the tv in the living room, and savor this!
Sometimes on older bikes the midbody gasket swells and blocks off the pilot circuit. P.S. I liked the kickstarter solution despite it not working.
Remove the cake pan once the oil's drained. It makes picking up dropped tools & bolts much cleaner.
Life is bleak, you bless me with an hour of bliss.
Glad you like the video. Life definitely seems brutal sometimes.
Honestly I love this “revival” type of videos so much. I m watching you for 3 days but man, 1hour! I can’t wait to watch till end. Keep going like this ✌🏼✌🏼🫶🏻
Glad you like the videos!
Cant beat an old 2 stroke!!
Ironically enough I pretty much did the exact same thing when I got my old 99 kx250 running after 10 years with the same issue and I used a Jennie’s garage to get it running.
The bike is now completely restored and loving life ❤️
Good job on the fix. I had a '91 kx250 when I was a kid and it was lots of fun
It puts a smile in my face seeing you so genuinely happy when the bike started up
51:37 is the greatest reaction that a man can have. 😲 ITS ALIVE!!!!!! Great video as always! Love you guys!
Yes that was a great moment! Glad you like the videos>
You guys are hilarious, actually got me into motorcycles and the confidence to work on my own
The chemistry and comedic timing you both have is remarkable. Your channel is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for posting quality videos.
The chemistry between you and the Mrs. makes these videos just that much more enjoyable. Thanks to the both of you.
Thanks, glad you like the videos.
One of my absolute favorite channels
Im so happy, 1 hour of video this ligten up my life
I call that a win. Id like to believe I would have taken the same course of action. Thank you for another one 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I remember you guys. Love your banter. It’s arguably better than the resto itself. Keep it up you guys are great and just shows what a good relationship can be.
Your chemistry is amazing. I’m so happy you’re doing motorcycle stuff so you showed up in my feed. I wouldn’t have found you if you were doing stamp collecting (or watching paint dry) but if you were to start, I’d watch that too.
The joy on you're face when it started was priceless 😅
It's a great feeling!
IVE MISSED THIS CHANNEL SO FREAKING MUCH!!!!!
Glad to see a new video. Love u guys
Thank you!
Can't wait for 'part II'.
I was thinking about you guys today. So glad you’ve uploaded. Thanks ☺️
ahhhh I missed this happy moments videos! when it starts, your happiness is contagious man! I love watching you 2. best videos and YES you did the right steps, I think if you have started as it was, you could have ruined all.. this way you moved into a cleaning route and paid off!
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This was Great !! Really Awesome to See this Resurrection,
And they Didn't even go to Church DOH!
Great video. I have been watching your videos for many years. This video seemes more like the old ones which i do like. You looked so happy when it started and idled.
Yes that was a rush when it started!!
I absolutely love these videos. Thank you for sharing them with us. I immediately got the bucket/bouquet reference, too. "Hyacinth Bucket, lady of the house speaking!!" Haha! 😂. Best wishes and good health to the both of you. Thanks again!
All of are very happy to watch another video from jennies garage.
You’re going to love it! My co-worker had an early 2000’s GasGas EC250 and it was the smoothest and snappiest bike I’ve ever ridden. GasGas made great bikes.
I REALLY enjoyed that!!!! Great job, and was hooting with laughter at the banter throughout. Love a two stroke, never had one bigger than 100cc, would love a ride on one of these, great job 👍👏👏👏
Glad you liked it. I've never ridden a 300 2 stroke, and am excited to try it!
I'm still here - so glad you guys are too. Great - fun ! Nice save. Good trouble shooting as well ! Cool to get a good Gas Gas for little money. Looking forward to the ride ...
I’m a simple guy. I see a new Jennies Garage video I click Like and enjoy.
This gave me some throwback JG vibes❤️🙏🏻
I wouldn't call myself a bearing expert, but I've dealt with them quite a bit.
There are two reasons for bearing play being a thing: One is to prevent the bearing from locking up or being harder to turn, when the metal expands due to operation in environments above room temperature. The second reason is that every functional surface is manufactured within a certain tolerance - there always needs to be a little play to account for that.
There is a DIN Standard which sanctions radial bearing play (or radial internal clearance if you're fancy). It's DIN 620-4, if you want to look it up. It defines four classes of internal clearance: C2, CN, C3 and C4, with C2 representing the smallest amount of play. CN is the standard internal clearance class - the vast majority of roller bearings that are manufactured to the DIN standard, have a CN internal clearance. The internal clearance class is only specified in the designation of the bearing, if it is not CN. Even though not every ball bearing is manufactured to the DIN 625 standard (DIN standard for ball bearings), the internal clearance specified there is going to be comparable to most roller bearings out there.
For roller bearings with a inner diameter from 6mm to 10mm, the internal clearance is specified to be between 2 and 13 micrometres. The water pump shaft bearing in the video obviously has a way higher internal clearance than that and it also sounds (and probably feels) like it has seen better days.
I love your videos, greetings from Germany :)
Thank you very much for that information! Your comment is an asset to me, and hopefully others who read it. I didn't know of those standardized specs, and I will very likely use those clearance tables in the future.
I'm about 3 minutes into the video and I've got to say, that's a pretty good looking dirt bike. Not babied but not completely 100% trashed. Id say it's gonna fire and go!
I was right! What a prize little bike!
I was so excited to see this bike start uup❤ I'd love to see the next video of hard times actually ripping 😊
Me too! I think it's going to be fun!
As someone who spent hours and hours trying to figure out possible problems with clapped out 2 stroke bikes, I REALLY APPRECIATE seeing what you do and how you do it. And with a really tiny tool box. You need to buy some quality tools from the profit when you sell the bikes. Just makes working on stuff alot easier and fun. I also recognize the joy you feel when a bike likes yours starts for the first time. You doubt it will be an easy fix and then you are blown away when it finally runs, and even idles. It gives you a feeling of pride over what you accomplished. I really enjoy when you do a twostroke project but ive seen you understand fourstrokes just as good. Makes me wish we were neighbours so I could learn a thing or two from you :) This video was 10 out of 10. Good job! Cant wait for the next video!
Yes it is a great feeling when it starts for the first time! Thanks for the kind words.
Out of the blue, an hour long jennies garage episode comes along. I cannot wait to consume this content. Beer and snacks in hand!
Hey guys
You were one of my original favorites years ago
I’m glad to see you still pop up together and happy as ever
Love you guys
Best channel of all time!
You are very kind!
you're a funny dude i love it
I don't know much about bikes, honestly anything that wouldn't transfer from automotives I've learned from you guys.
But man that thing's cool; even if it's actually not. xD
Thanks, I'm glad the videos have been helpful for you.
Please put Jenny, from Jennie's garage in front of the camera more, and in a pair of daisy duke's lol. She's such a sweetheart, we all love her.
I Always Learn Something New And Very Entertaining At The Same Time.
Thank you sir.
First-time viewer! I absolutely love your commentary and collaboration with your lady!
Excellent, glad you’re both doing well. Long time viewer all the way from Manchester, England.
i always try to find your channel i always find your guys videos so wholesome
Great video! Every time you work on a bike, it makes me want to work on my own
What you did with the kickstart was genius 😅👍
Thanks I was pretty proud of it until it broke immediately.!
