The idea that it's common is, just like the "welfare queen" concept, a myth made up by conservatives who think poor people should be punished (or left to starve) for being poor.

If the feds decided to come enforce federal law, they sure can. They were shutting down shops and jailing people in Colorodo for several years after they legalized recreational use.

I studied jazz at a university with a world-renowned jazz program. I graduated with people who have solid careers in music now doing a whole variety of things.

Equality of outcome isn’t every single person getting the same thing. It’s seeing the same distribution in populations. Like equality of outcomes means just as many black women are CEO’s per capita as white men. Equality of outcome is the only way to measure whether or not you have equality of opportunity so anyone that wants the latter wants the former.

I think Dave's understanding of equitable is a bit off. When people talking about equality, that's generally equality of outcome.
When most leftists talk about equity, they talk about equality of opportunity.
They usually bring up the analogy of the baseball game and the fence. There are three people, one person who can comfortably see over the fence, one person who can just barely see over the fence, and a third person who cannot see over the fence. In an equal society, everybody would get 1 stool to stand on, all the same height, which generally doesn't serve the need of the shortest of the three. In an equitable society, the tallest person doesn't get a stool because they're already well-off, and the shortest person gets enough to see over the fence.
One could argue that equity is the equality of opportunity/access. It's establishing a base standard, so that everybody has an equal starting place. And then from there, through merit and hard work, people can come to their own outcomes.
The quality of being fair and impartial.
That in no way speaks to outcomes in any form. Not even hinted or anything. Completely devoid of outcome.

The Bill C-16 shit in Canada is not exactly as you say it Jake. Education is a provincial power in Canada, it does not directly receive federal money and is therefore subject to provincial power, not federal. HOWEVER, the federal Bill of Rights has to be respected by provincial governments, even if they have their own, so... very indirectly, yes JBP has to respect the federal ruling, but it's not as direct as you explain it.
