It's the fact that it has 3 wheels is what classifies it it a motorcycle. Of course, there are actually many states that have autocycle classification on their books. The Arcimoto is working to make sure they fall under that.

I have a hard time just getting my landlord to give me enough space in the garage for a single-track motorcycle - otherwise, I'd seriously look into this for myself. I could see this being a practical tool for schlepping around town and the Greater Bay Area.
@@Xubuntu47 I don't think so, back a few years ago when I looked at Arcimoto there was a fully enclosed variant that just a very cool lifting door just on one side.
The driver sits in the middle, with the passenger behind, like a motorcycle. No need to change the seating or controls for the UK (or Japan, or Thailand, or...).
Now that is something actually worthy of this channel's name. Of the things actually available right now I think I'd rather have a more traditional style electric motorcycle like the ones Zero makes in addition to my model 3, but I'm sure there is a pretty good market for this kind of 3 wheel vehicle also. My dream vehicle is still a cross between the model 3 I already own and a mazda mx-5 (miata) like that one rendering someone made a while back.
I can see the future of E-Vehicles. Sale prices will automatically run through the roof if all gas stations and rest areas had "Quick charge" E-ports. Then motorist who live in apartments, be it rent, co-op or condo, will be able to purchase one. Stations can charge by the quarter. 15 minutes full. For newer vehicles with a better battery system or 30 minutes for the earlier vehicles with older charge systems.
It looks like it travels almost twice the distance per kilowatt hour compared to a normal electric car, am I seeing that right? If so, that is impressive!

I'm confused, this video is dated SEP 2019 and he said they are in full production. Yet their website does not have a real "build" option, and I can't even find individual models on the website? Very Odd.
Need to move marketing to Los Angeles area so can market Arcimoto 10 months a year. If you’ve got good wet weather management solutions, you can go all 12 months a year in southern CA. Looking forward to future models with a bit more environment containment so it could be at least a 3 season ride in the Northern climes. Great job!!
Tesla fans love Arcimoto. I myself is invested on both. 95% on TSLA 5% on FUV. Arcimoto is vertically integrated and riding the battery cost curve. When batteries become cheaper, an FUV will cost less than a motorcycle. The stock is dirt cheap right now.
Hallo! Thank you for a very entertaining show, and a new perspective. I have constantly have had thoughts about the range anxiety and the need for large cars, for all... We simply don't go on holidays every weekend. The form factor of these vehicles reminds me of the Uniti car, which is very much designed for Citilife, or suburban... (whereas the Uniti is a bit more designed for a chilly climate). The thing is that most of us don't need to drive 200 km on a daily basis, using the car for commuting, doing the daily shopping etc, and we certainly don't travel together (with the family, etc)... And I would really want to have a discussion (somewhere or somehow) about the real needs for most of us - or the typical situations where we need a bit of more range/less range and space. Again, thank you for a very refreshing show.
Great commuter car. The only real issue would be parking in Manhattan, which is always a challenge. It is, however, nice to see something like this finally come to production, unlike the Elio which has yet to materialize.. Perhaps Arcimoto's success will add impetus to Elio's efforts as this is an extremely competitive category after all.
not hating on the idea... but what is the experience like when it rains? In the avg consumer use case. Is this supposed to be used in all use cases or is this the better version of a golf cart you can run to the corner store with?
Oh, yes! We want it to succeed, and with some doors and possibly a heater, it would be a good, most of the year, vehicle. In winter time, on slippery roads and in freezing conditions, maybe not so useful.
@@somewhat7 I know, but my garage would be a better choice for it in the winter months. My '96 4x4 Nissan Patrol will be our best choice to combat snow drifts and icy roads. It has been faithfully serving us with a minimum of maintenance. New brakes, batteries and clutch once, tyres, oil, filters, and some lightbulbs is all it has ever needed. Nothing else. Goes through the Norwegian version of the MOT without any issue every other year.
As I dream of my perfect EV, I find myself thinking of exactly this. I had no idea someone was already making these? Frustrating that they aren't selling in New York. Their website says they won't even let you go an pick one up. I wonder why. I've been looking at a GEM car as a three season "recreational" EV for around town. The FUV would certainly fill that need.
They look fun & addresses a good problem. Only issue I would consider is the high price of 19k, which hopefully may come down when they increase volume through economies of scale. I would also like maybe an option to create a fully enclosed vehicle to enable A/C where it gets very hot in southern states. I also wonder if AMZN,Google, or AAPL may consider purchasing Arcimoto to tap into a great untapped market
It should probably be prefaced that most car trips are with just 1 person in the car. The average is slightly above 1... so 2 seater would be very suitable for most
@@bradscott3165 You again with a lame comment. Prius gets around 50 mpg, burns gas, and has an electric range of 25 MILES TOPS. Tesla has a massive range and gets what, 100 mpg electric equivalent? Archimoto gets almost 200 miles per gallon equivalent. Such a cool vehicle. If you need to be online criticizing something, go criticize the US president for being a rapist and traitor (I'm not making that up).
I believe they have a target price of around $10k when they go into full production, but you know how pricing goes... Electric motorcycle incentives will apply. Currently the following states have them: California Statewide $900 rebate (currently waitlisted, waiting for funds) San Joaquin Valley $1000 rebate Maryland $100/kWh excise tax credit (effective 7/1/2017 - 6/30/2020, waiting for funds) Massachusetts $450 rebate (limited funds) Oregon $750 rebate (effective 1/1/2019) Arizona Reduced vehicle license tax Illinois Reduced vehicle registration fee taken from here: www.zeromotorcycles.com/incentives/
@coppice I did wonder the same actually, it didn't seem overly efficient. But he mentioned that it drives and handles really well, which could suggest it's got a little "heft" to it! Also, 20kWh of batteries won't be overly light, so I'm guessing the overall mass of the car would be somewhat close to a small car maybe?!!? Maybe in future designs they'll be able to really get the weight down, or maybe they haven't enabled the full capacity of the battery? I'm curious to hear more on this in time. Fantastic little vehicle all the same, can't wait to see them in Aussie!!
Looks like a Twizzy with a wheel missing. The problem with a Twizzy has always been the expensive battery rental that you cannot avoid. This Arcimoto looks like a better bet and I hope they enjoy continued success
I like it. It needs to come down in price. The other thing is, you can get one fully enclosed...but... The doors are something that you can pull off, but there isn't any permanent doors on hinges, where the doors can be locked. So an open air EV parked somewhere at night, makes it vulnerable to theft.
I really like the concept; however, I have one concern I'd like you to address when you get your test drive. I live in an area with really hot summers (100+ degree days). What is the battery thermal management? What testing have they done?
If Arcimoto wants to survive they need to iterate fast. Level 2 charging compatibility which means thermal management (use the frame as a heat sink?). Insisting that it's only for short trips limits your market. If I'm going to be delivering pizza in one of these from 4 to midnight every day fast charge is a must as full discharge is bad for longevity. Heated seats. Doors with windows that open. A way to hold your shopping in the back seat without going for the cargo version. If you could safely strap a surfboard to one of these that's a sizeable market as well.
Nikki.. please be careful not to lump all Tesla fans as haters of any other EV, because not only is that not the case for many, like myself, it is a minor loud portion of fans.
Well done people!!...What is needed is lighter more efficient transportation as most vehicles only have ONE passenger! It is time OUR TAX system reflected the TRUE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF VEHICLES...Meaning efficiently ie light vehicles are more efficient!!
I know, right? I felt like the reporting fell a little flat this time. I think Nikki had a pretty tough week. It has a roll cage (like a race car) but no airbags, and the double seat belts seen in the video (again, like a race car). Not sure about charging time for 80% which is what most electric cars show.
As an indian i see it as a safety hazard but electric rikshaws work here though..could be great for narrow city and village roads..not highways..ppl drive like crazy here..
People said that the Can Am Spyder wouldn't catch on and yet there are tons of them on the road in Québec, Canada, where I live... So yeah, I do think there's a market for the Arcimoto, and as a bonus, it's much cheaper than the Harley electric...
I love this type of vehicle. The size is awesome. but why can't we get doors for all weather travel? I live in the south. If I spend 20,000, I want to use it in 20 degrees and rain. Just saying....
There are lots of rain gear in motorcycle shops, outdoor shops (REI, etc.), and Walmart. I rode motorcycles for 40+ years and survived many rain storms and freezing temperatures. I want one of these. My drivers license still has a motorcycle endorsement.

they couldnt be further away from Tesla end product, but i believe their ultimate goal is the same and they are trying to do the right thing, and i'm all for that.
Fyi - i think that arcimoto is on to a winner with this vehicle, but not the 2 seater that was the main focus, the 1 seater with the box on the back will sell like hot cakes in any city that has a polluting charge (which will be most capitals, and many more in the next few years or so), if your company makes deliveries of smallish items in them areas, its a total no brainer. e.g. deliveroo
having said all that, i don't normally read all the comments, I have no idea what are the sort of responses you have to deal with on a daily basis, and I am aware the internet is full of hate and vile, so i hope this one is not too bad, and obviously i will always be watching, and continue evolving :-)
Great interview - though also nice to see that you've let your American twin sister do a couple of shows, ^oo^
I have a hard time just getting my landlord to give me enough space in the garage for a single-track motorcycle - otherwise, I'd seriously look into this for myself. I could see this being a practical tool for schlepping around town and the Greater Bay Area.
Fantastic commuter! In VA it can also go in HOV, which unfortunately isn’t an option for Tesla with a single driver
I didn't see it on this video, the but single gullwing style door model I have seen elsewhere is one sexy little beast!
Do you mean the SAM? The one with the front that looks like it's grinning? The SAM does 56 mph, but it's cheaper.
@@Xubuntu47 I don't think so, back a few years ago when I looked at Arcimoto there was a fully enclosed variant that just a very cool lifting door just on one side.
Will you be making a right hand drive for the UK???
The driver sits in the middle, with the passenger behind, like a motorcycle. No need to change the seating or controls for the UK (or Japan, or Thailand, or...).
This is such a good design. i love it.
Now that is something actually worthy of this channel's name.
Of the things actually available right now I think I'd rather have a more traditional style electric motorcycle like the ones Zero makes in addition to my model 3, but I'm sure there is a pretty good market for this kind of 3 wheel vehicle also. My dream vehicle is still a cross between the model 3 I already own and a mazda mx-5 (miata) like that one rendering someone made a while back.
finally a practical electric fun utility vehicle! I want one!
Looks Pretty good, Good Luck to Arcimoto.
For newer vehicles with a better battery system or 30 minutes for the earlier vehicles with older charge systems.
people have had that dream for over 100 years.
It looks like it travels almost twice the distance per kilowatt hour compared to a normal electric car, am I seeing that right? If so, that is impressive!
With half the frontal cross sectional area of a car, it should have half the air resistance and approximately half the consumption.
@@ahaveland and on the other hand it's got an aerodynamic bubble so it's not a total brick above 40mph like all the electric motos being built so far, without a fairing among them
@@dwc1964 True, and an enclosed shell will make it even more economical at lower speeds.
@@ahaveland it's less of an issue at lower speed, as wind resistance increases with the square of the velocity
Great job!!
Great little short commute runaround, although my normal commuter is even lighter being a i man power cycle (10km/7mile each way).
no link to acrimoto in the description?
This is a really compelling vehicle!
Great addition to our options
I have to get one.
Just wondering, why you don't advertise the enclosure feature ?
Can't wait to see them in New Zealand
Looks like an awesome little runabout
Oh, yes! We want it to succeed, and with some doors and possibly a heater, it would be a good, most of the year, vehicle. In winter time, on slippery roads and in freezing conditions, maybe not so useful.
winter tires exist
The average is slightly above 1... so 2 seater would be very suitable for most
Perfect car for Australian cities.
What is the target price?
Will it qualify for any incentives?
1. Everything 2. You won't have to save any money for your future kids.
@@abz998 LMAO. At least you can get laid in a Prius...
Currently the following states have them:
California
Statewide $900 rebate (currently waitlisted, waiting for funds)
San Joaquin Valley $1000 rebate
Maryland $100/kWh excise tax credit (effective 7/1/2017 - 6/30/2020, waiting for funds)
Massachusetts $450 rebate (limited funds)
Oregon $750 rebate (effective 1/1/2019)
Arizona Reduced vehicle license tax
Illinois Reduced vehicle registration fee

Brad Scott oh God....no you can't.
They need full doors and windows for me to consider one.
@@markplott4820 Can you buys a completely enclosed one right now?
I only see 1/2 doors on their website.
It also needs to cost a lot less than $19,000.
@@kidlatazul There target was 12 grand. Corporation greed.

A thing this small and light only gets 100 miles from 20kWh of batteries? It must be very inefficient.
Perfect for the UK in good weather....that is about three days per year give or take.
How is it the driving in winter snowy condition?
Nice for summer rides.
We can use this vehicle in Hawaii, where we don't need to equip it with doors all year and all night long.
Good luck to them 👍🏻
A great idea for urban environment, the day it get under 10k count on me.
Nikki.. please be careful not to lump all Tesla fans as haters of any other EV, because not only is that not the case for many, like myself, it is a minor loud portion of fans.
I hope they make it. He's right, cars are too big.
Airbags? Does it need one? Safety? Charging time?
I know, right? I felt like the reporting fell a little flat this time. I think Nikki had a pretty tough week.
It has a roll cage (like a race car) but no airbags, and the double seat belts seen in the video (again, like a race car). Not sure about charging time for 80% which is what most electric cars show.
I bet they will sell even more in Europe! I see them in beaches, mountains, all over the places! 👍
hoping that this vehicle will be a vehicle in the Philippines soon . It is a car that I THINK suit very well in the phil roads.
What will the agency do I get a chance to launch in India
As an indian i see it as a safety hazard but electric rikshaws work here though..could be great for narrow city and village roads..not highways..ppl drive like crazy here..
I like all but the price, especially after hearing about a conventional enclosed EV being built for the Chinese market with a price under $10k
Yes, I wish and hope we can get that under $10K, and then I would buy TWO!
People said that the Can Am Spyder wouldn't catch on and yet there are tons of them on the road in Québec, Canada, where I live... So yeah, I do think there's a market for the Arcimoto, and as a bonus, it's much cheaper than the Harley electric...
Make it with cabin and ethanol or cng based gas heater. I'm in,.
Perfect for the rental transport market.
i suggest making an option with doors or a more enclosed cab, so you can use it in the winter, or rain like you get in Eugene!
Pick an accent. Any accent. ;o))
And switch mid sentence.
Sounds fine, getting a bit mid Atlantic
I thought I was imagining that.
Ear bending accent
She started doing it during some B-roll and I thought they'd brought another presenter in 😅
Would love to see Arcimoto and Tesla share showrooms. Wow.
I love this type of vehicle. The size is awesome. but why can't we get doors for all weather travel? I live in the south. If I spend 20,000, I want to use it in 20 degrees and rain. Just saying....
Needs a way to seal out the Occasional downpour of rain
There are lots of rain gear in motorcycle shops, outdoor shops (REI, etc.), and Walmart. I rode motorcycles for 40+ years and survived many rain storms and freezing temperatures. I want one of these. My drivers license still has a motorcycle endorsement.
I want one. Could replace the Suburban for 90% of trips.
I do need doors. Utah winters would not be fun without them.
This thing will not survive a zombie apocalypse.
