In the late 70s and early 80s there was one Chinese restaurant that served this dish. I haven’t seen it before or since and I go to many Asian restaurants. I’ve seen it on menus but the photos are nothing like this version which I loved.

Problem… the Chinese use their own soy sauce. Can’t use Japanese shoyu, that’s why your homemade Chinese don’t taste the same.
