As someone who is legally blind, I can confirm that most of the legit hate is because Mr. Beast said he cured Blindness even though he did not. He paid for the cataract surgeries for some people but that is not curing blindness. Not all blindness is caused by cataracts, this solution that he gives to some people is not for everyone even if we could afford it. I wish my legally blind eyes were curable but they are not. :(
all i can say is i went down a political rabbit-hole on trans right and such and was kind of funny seeing a doctor lose there work for helping someone become blind then this video gets recommended
This whole argument can be settled real quick. Interview those 1000 people who had this eye surgery and get their opinions. It's their thoughts and opinions that count the most-not ours, sitting behind phones and desks with computers, clacking on keyboards with fully functioning eyesight. A disgraceful society we have truly become.
Exactly! We should value the opinions of the people who actually went through the surgery/lived with blindness more than the opinions of random people on the internet.
In Poland, we have a saying/proverb that very accurately encapsulates the entire drama: "Jeszcze się taki nie urodził co by całemu światu dogodził" which literally translates to "there has not yet one been born who would satisfy the entire world". No matter how much you do to make the world a better place, there will *always* be haters.
John 15:17-19 ‘Yes, this is what I’m commanding you: ‘Love each other! ‘And know that if this world dislikes you, it disliked me first! If you’re from this world, the world will be fond of what is its own. But because you’re no part of this world - since I chose you out of the world - it won’t care much for you.
I think what people fail to understand with mr beast is that he will publicise the ‘good deed’ videos with the intention of making money that he will then use to fund and create more videos helping people and donating to charities. He effectively has his own way of ‘spending money to make money’.
its so much deeper than that, in certain religions, for example christianity, There is a man called the Antichrist who will perform miracles and play god and tell humanity he is the true gospel, even though he is satan that is why people find it demonic im not saying i think mrbeast is satan, im just explaining why people say it is demonic.
I once saw a comment from the controversy saying: "Imagine being one of the people Mr. Beast helped, and one of the first things they saw was people comparing Jimmy to the devil."
I'm a medical student from the UK and was in multiple cataract surgeries. I'm still amazed how a simple surgery (lasts less than 10 minutes) could be so life-changing.
Exactly. People seem to forget that the entire reason why he's even able to do this is because we watch the videos. He even states it every single Philanthropy video lmao, that for ever time we watch a video, the more he could spend on helping people.
Virtue signaling is pretty different from having a model sustained by viewership. Not that Beast is doing that, he does seem like a genuine person who cares about the people he helps camera on or off, but there is no way to say that for sure without knowing him. Either way, even if he is doing these good deeds out of selfish reasoning, the good vastly outweighs the negative. He's the only person I've ever seen with nearly any amount close to the money a millionaire or billionaire has that actually PUTS IT where his mouth is and does something to change people's lives.
You're right and you should say it. Don't get mad at someone for briefly stopping the "Orphan Crushing Machine", be mad that the "Orphan Crushing Machine" exists and is something that needs to be stopped
Our society is pretty much sick. There is a lack of education (specially by parents). People would sell their own parents for money. That's what the worst face of capitalism but also ignorance brought us. The more we consume the more we need
@@fregnob1094 the twitter users would then make up some story like "when mrbeast gave me the grass he actually shot my dog and kidnapped my family so i would touch the grass for his content"
This reminds me of some Twitter warrior years back who slammed an operation made on a deaf young kid (around three years old perhaps) so he was able to hear for the first time since birth. She criticized the operation for "changing him from the way he was born without his consent". I just... don't even understand these terminally online people, anymore. Like you're saying: They constantly have to find something to complain about. Something, just anything. What a miserable life it must be, finding conflict wherever you look.
And I feel like this also circles back around to the “don’t attack the deed doer”. I think there’s definitely arguments to be made for ear piercing, dying your kids hair, hell even the toddlers and tiara stuff when it comes to how people treat their kids bodies. But that doesn’t apply for a surgery to literally give a child hearing. They’re attacking the wrong cause, and the wrong people
@@semidecent4395 why would you be upset at ear piercing? In my culture its tradition to have baby girls have their ears pierced to put gold earrings on them, it has traditional meaning. And we're all fine with that, we're literally happier because when we grow up and wanna wear some earrings, we dont have to go through the pain of piercing ears, cause that was dealt when we were too young to remember (and if we dont like earrings we can just take them off). Literally all of us find it convenient, so i'm very curious why people from other cultures decide to criticize something they don't understan, or bu upset at kids receiving cosmetic procedures they find convenient when they grow up.
@@EveTheRaviolo well when it doesn't have much cultural value, which it doesn't have in many European cultures and cultures descended from Europeans, it comes off as gaudy or tacky or just... Ugly. If it does have traditional value, it's not maiming yourself to get a pretty gem it's... A commemoration or a prayer or whatever, for example, your culture ascribes to it. There's just different backgrounds to these two situations of your culture, and most European cultures
@@EveTheRaviolo You got another answer to this, but I'd like to clear a few things up. There are really only 2 major reasons ear piercing is done on infants in the US - and I believe other European countries as well. The first is fairly valid: some older and stricter sects of Christianity condone altering the body in ANY manner, be it piercings, tattoo, hair dye, anything that changes your natural appearance. My mother was of this sort, and I didn't get mine done until around age 13, and yes it was a pain in the ass, and I would have preferred she had it done for me as an infant. The only other reason is MUCH less valid: Fashion. Strictly just for looks and fashion. The way it is viewed as is that you are literally putting holes into your child's body because you think it looks cute. Basically, you're treating your offspring like a fashion accessory and not an infant. That is... UNFORTUNATELY popular in the States, as we have a big fondness for child pageants. Literally dressing and dolling up children under ten in the same way you would a woman for a Miss Universe pageant.
@@kanekigh768 I guess that they complain about it thinking that if the people showcasing their good actions didnt have the views from the internet then they would not do any good in the first place, or at least thats what I imagine how their logic works
@@Hotwopper i hate it, im actually glad he post videos like this because it brings awareness and opens people eyes. like i had no clue you could cure blindness until mrbeast did so, and the money he makes from the videos it’s not like he’s keeping it and spending it on himself. he’s actually giving it back to community so it’s just a cycle.
Yeah, on Twitter artists get attacked for "trying to get attention" when they announce that they donated to a corporation, even when they are clearly trying to spread awareness.
I also think publicizing this is good for raising awareness-most of us had no idea that this surgery existed previously. Now we can all get mad that a life-changing surgery is inaccessible if you’re just a little too poor. When the public can get mad enough about the systems that create and maintain poverty in the world, that’s a catalyst for change.
100%. I dont blame people getting mad at Mr. Beast, to be honest. He isnt the cause obviously, but he's the one who made folks aware of the fact that theres this life changing surgery you can get that you can only afford with enough money
Yeah it's absolutely embarrassing how people can't see that this is a good thing just because capitalism also exists. Last I checked Mr Beast' net worth was 25 million or so, who knows how much money he actually has but whatever he has it's simply not possible for him to enforce worldwide systemic change. Why the fuck are people mad at a dude who has a small amount of money compared to your average billionaire and not someone like Elon Musk who spent 44 fucking BILLION on a shitty website. Now that's an amount of money that could contribute to systemic change in several countries and yet it was totally pissed away on social media.
i thought that was the whole issue - calling it “demonic” made me think because what he did seemed impossible unless you like sell your soul to the devil, but no lol it’s just something I & others were undereducated on.
I'd love to see these Twitter warriors speak face-to-face with the people who got the surgery and try to tell them what MrBeast did was wrong and selfish.
A lot of them seem to be justifying it as wrong via religion. Saying Mr beast is demonic by "undoing what god did". Which garbage ass take and clearly isn't really motivated by their religious beliefs
@@gotchamatcha sorry to play the devil's advocate, but Jesus is God, so that's not an entirely sound argument. But I agree with the conclusion. If God actually didn't want people to see, why would he allow them to forgo the surgery? Also, aren't we meant to help each other? If your child was attacked, would you just stand there and say: "this was meant to happen". No, you would step in as it is your moral duty to help other people. Why would treating blindness be any different?
People should really be thanking him for 2 reasons: a) He cured 1,000 people of blindness. b) He's shedding light on the fact that half of all blindness is easily curable and governments are doing nothing about it. It's the system everyone should be mad at, not the guy improving people's lives.
We're letting the government walk all over us, we gave them power thinking they'd be responsible with it, but then we get shown that they just like sitting in a big chair twiddling their thumbs, or even worse. We're powerless to stop it unless we all start to notice and get mad at it, but seeing how many people resolve to rage and hate, it would probably end up like the french revolution.
It's like the age old tale of the orphan crushing machine. Everyone is asking about Mr. Beast's motives for stopping the orphan crushing machine but no one's really questioning why it exists in the first place.

One of the great Australians is a man called Fred Hollows. He was an eye surgeon that would travel the world restoring peoples sight. I grew up with the ‘A fiver for Fred’ campaign. Donate $5 and someone’s sight is saved. As an Australian it always amazed me that $5 was the difference between blindness and sight. RIP Fred. I can’t see a single thing wrong with restoring someone’s sight. It doesn’t only change their lives, it changes their family and community. Fred charity is still going and still restoring sight.
Was gonna say, "Every eye is an eye." Fred did amazing work. Mr Beast is doing the sort of thing Fred wanted people to do. I remember the fiver for fred campaign, had people talk to us about it when we were in primary school too.
The worse thing about the MrBeast drama is that the same surgery is completely free here in Brazil, in 2019 only the SUS (yes thats the name of our free healthcare) performed this surgery over 600.000 times. Yet in a country with a way better economy the surgery is life changing and basically unattainable without sinking into debt for life.
It shows how sad the system is because the procedure is free in most every country, expect those in extreme poverty like those in Africa where they did the bulk of the surgeries in the video.
@@jwcarlson not really, we have both free and paid health care options and also these surgeries are commonly performed like that mostly on the bigger cities, while the paid option would be available on the average size cities and to some people who might be near the end of a priority list, overall it doesn't change that many people were helped and i think we should see that as a net positive for the whole species.
Yeah, it’s even shown that his main channel alone was a income lost for a long period of time including merch, which is probably why he has all the small channels, and the chocolate bars and restaurant
Yeah, big PSA for everyone out there saying he's profiting off of the suffering of others... He posts videos of SOME of his charity events, so that he can raise money to give out to more people and causes. He takes almost all the money he makes, and puts it back into charities and more videos. He's filming 5+ video's at a time, many of which directly provide funding to charitable causes, and the money he does raise, then goes back towards those causes, more videos, etc. Yes he obviously isn't living an impoverished life himself, but he is putting the vast majority of his time and wealth into helping people, and that's better than 99+% of people.
Yep. Whenever Jimmy uploads those videos; they are all for a good cause, too. He makes content that in turn helps the community he wants to help out, he gets money off of it, then uses said earnings to even help other communities even further. The cycle just continues. I can't believe some people did not thought of it that way, even.
his brand growing as a result of videos like that is 100% a good thing because it allows him to make more videos like this where he can help a wider range of people and gives him the ability to do so
Alot Billionaires do what mr beast do but in a larger scale. Another of Millionaires too. It just that mr beast publicly makes youtube videos about it.
You’d be surprised how more common his mentality is within the ultra wealthy. There are a fair few altruistic million/billionaires that do this kind of charity work. Now as loud and proud as Mr beast is? No, but the mentality of using one’s wealth to help others in very specific ways is definitely a common trend in the ultra wealthy. Hell even people like Rockefeller used their wealth to help their community (once they were done with it all), and for a modern take look at bill gates who’s put a lot of cash into supporting specific things. So I’m the end Mr Beast just like a lot of the ultra wealthy. Now here’s the real question. Is what he’s doing actually doing anything in the grand scheme? He may have a heart of gold, but is he actually doing societal good. Sure it definitely looks like he’s doing good by giving random people a large chunk of cash to stay in the circle the longest, or give 1000 people their sight, but is that societal good? It’s a real question which I don’t think many people contemplate. Honestly I don’t really have an answer for that.
Not filming any of the good deeds he does would also kinda hinder his ability to make money in order to KEEP doing good deeds in the first place, so i think that, even if he films some of them, it's more than genuine
He even has an entire channel dedicated to doing charity work where all the proceeds go back to doing more charity work. The dude is helping a lot of people.
Right. How would he have paid for 1,000 surgeries without the funds? The millions of views he gets from these videos go back into doing good deeds. Sure, he keeps some of the money, but it’s because this is his job. He’s gotta care for himself and his family, but the mass of the profit from these videos goes into making more expensive videos like this.
The Twitter users think that Mr Beast has an infinite money supply and therefore doesn't need to have a job anymore. The Squid Game video proves that he can't just do anything, because if that video hadn't succeeded it would have ruined him financially just from the sheer cost of the video.
Helping to improve 1.000 lives for the wrong reasons still has a bigger positive impact in the world than doing an online ranting crusade which changes no one`s life for the right ones.
Imagine hating on a guy whos helping other people. He doesn't have to. Yet he is. He could've kept the whole RUclips money to himself. Yet he didnt. Imagine being so miserable. I hope such people recover
You got no idea how capitalism works. If he keeps it like other rich folks they would have to pay taxes that benefit the community as a whole. We cant have that now can we, otherwise capitalism wouldnt exist. Its all about avoiding paying taxes and to keep capitalism in force. Hes helping himself first and foremost.
@@love13f You still dont get it. Yeh its ok for one to help themselves, but covering up 'good deeds' to avoid taxes that should be going into the economy and to the ppl in the name of democracy as a whole is nothing short of self indulgence and tax evasion. If rich folks actually paid taxes rather than funneling their money in so called 'charities' for tax rebates and evasion then these ppl such as MR B wouldnt have a job because these kind of things would be available to EVERYONE. Again, I suggest you do some research to how capitalism works. Let me ask you this question. Would you rather rich folks pay taxes to benefit a nation of 30M ppl with needs, OR Rich folks avoid paying taxes through 'charity stunts' of their own choosing to benefit 1000 ppl. This is why there are so many charities these days because the rich are avoiding paying taxes and it is the public that are paying and donating to charities and yet still doesnt benefit everyone.

I saw the video as a way for him to not only help people, get more money to help more people, but also expose how sad it is that it took a rich youtuber to get these people the 10 minute surgery they needed to be able to get their lives back. He even mentions how hard it is and borderline impossible for most people to be able to get the surgery on their own without external help and that 50% of the total blindness in the world is due to something easily reparable. He's doing 3 good things at once.
I absolutely think he's doing a good thing, but i think the point that people are actually trying to make, is that it shouldn't be necessary for private rich people to pay for this in the first place. It should just be handled by systems like universal healthcare.
I hate how people are always saying “oh he’s just doing it for money” obviously it’s for money, he gives pretty much all of it away just to make more to give away again. It’s not a bad thing to get money, that’s literally what a job is
Society is a dumpster fire. We are lucky that someone like Mr. Beast has come along to try to make it better in whatever way he can regardless of what the haters say.
I have the same condition as the kids shown in the video (congenital cataract) and was blessed to grow up in an environment where I could have the necessary treatment to fix it. It’s a 12 year process to make sure your eye doesn’t shut off due to uselessness. I’m so happy the kid who was born with it was able to get the successful 50% chance. It blows my mind that some people think those in the video feel offended. Vision is something precious, and I’ll never forget the day I opened my eye and could see more than blurry masses. People need some serious reality checks.
It's not that they don't want them to get the procedure, the sensible ones are outraged that they couldn't get it before Mr. stepped in, but still acknowledge that what he did was nothing short of a miracle
I was also born with congenital cataracts and got the eyesight saving surgeries i needed. i even got intraocular lenses once i hit adulthood. it was very rare back then. although my eyesight was never restored to its fullest, i am grateful to be able to see at all and be able to do visual things like drawing even while being legally blind. imagine being so rotten as to be mad about someone allowing these kids to see when they would otherwise be unnecessarily blinded and had their life made so much more difficult for no reason.
Even if he has "dodgy intentions" this is much better then idiots and companies pretending they care about ppl by changing their logo and never helping anyone.
I love how Charlie actually has to explain how Mr. Beast giving people their eyesight is a GOOD thing and that we, as intelligent lifeforms, still find a way to complain about how giving someone one of their senses back is a bad thing
Oh my god, he’s absolutely right!Going around helping the blind is truly a disgusting and demonic action, and we need to stop him immediately before he can help anyone else! Twitter users are so smart

As someone who is in college studying Healthcare Administration, the cost of care is something I could talk about for hours and hours. Charlie has a great point, Mr. Beast shouldn’t have to step in where the US Healthcare system fails
he isn't helping just US though... he went to different parts of south america, africa... where people take blindness as if losing one of nail... and i am not kidding....
the scariest thing is that these kinds of people aren't actually exclusive to twitter. the twitter algorithm just amplifies their voices. There's a lot of these people, and they're _real_
My personal conclusion is that even if MrBeast really does have negative intentions behind what he does id rather him continue to help people with those negative intentions than the alternative of him using all the money and fame he's garnered to do actually negative things or just harboring the money he has and doing nothing with it The positives really just outweigh the negatives and that's in the pretend reality where any negatives even actually exist
Without money from monetized videos, he wouldn't be able to continue his philanthropy. Most of what he earns is clearly reinvested as all his videos have massive budgets now
Yeah, while I do believe his intentions are pure, even if he does do it for any selfish reason I just see the amount of people he actually helps and that to me is worth a lot more. You have people with far more money than Mr.Beast has and they don't do this type of stuff, so yeah he's fine in my book.
Any benefit to him just makes it possible and likely to do more good shit. I'm not getting mad at someone for helping people. And even the worst take of it would be a trolled people into having vision.
This makes no sense to me. You'd give him props if it 100% only doing it for profit?? The purpose of the video was to get views, grow his brand and make money. The noble part is secondary. He's just smart enough to know that humanitarian efforts are rewarded by the masses. DISCLAIMER: i'm glad he's doing good things. But im not gonna go out of my way to pat him on the back cause his primary goal is rooted in money. He can retire, never work again and never have to worry about money, ever. He can choose to not give a shit about continuing to grow his brand, and do good things without wrapping it in a bow for us all to watch for profit. Also, ppl can't accept that if you don't give "huge props" for something, that you must be doing the opposite and condemning them for doing it. No, for me it's just neutral. You don't deserve a pat on the back from me, but I'm glad you're doing it.
@@kenbrunet6120 all of that and yet that video that he made is doing so much good to the people who were once blind, and he’s done more good in that video alone than you will do in your entire life
He's already been honest about what he's doing. As Charlie says any money made on a video is immediately invested into making the next one bigger and better. It's not perfect, but at least it's going to someone who is trying to make a difference to ordinary people's lives instead of only furthering his own. And if me watching him pay for 1000 people's blindness surgery means that another 1000 people could have the same, that's alright by me.
That sounds pretty perfect to me; His charitable act is creating more charitable acts through ad revenue. He doesn't even need to send out support letters/beg for money/host fancy fundraising dinners.

Those thousand people, and more, could've been helped by a better healthcare system but instead they had to be lucky instead. If Mr.Beast just didn't feel like helping them or when he's inevitably is not around, the people who need this operation would just be screwed. so his actions aren't bad but people often use the kindness of people with a lot of money to say "see the system works, just be lucky enough to be gifted a rich mans kindness."
That's exactly what i was thinking. Mr. Beast prioritized the vision for 1000 people over trying to topple the Healthcare market by NOT paying for those surgeries. My take on this is simple: unlike those videos and shows where people get money or a car or a makeover, this eye surgery is 100% life changing, as someone who had 2 eye surgeries I can say that this allowed me to learn and to work and be a functional member of society. 1000 people got a chance to do something better, to advance their own life and maybe contribute back to others. This is priceless.
I think most of the criticism isn't on Mr. Beast rather that it's sad that someone like Jimmy had to put his foot down and help the underprivileged whose blindness is pretty curable but not the government which spends billions on the military and still has homeless vets, thats very alarmimg, otherwise, Mr. Beast is a good person overall
@@venkaramon yeah can't understand how people just can't accept that mutually benefitting things like this are the way. Everyone wants a better world, but also want good people to be martyrical and hidden. Such a fking shot in the foot

I think people are forgetting that basically every act of kindness can be considered selfish. Something as small as opening a door for someone could be called "selfish" because you get a bit of happiness, pride, yknow, a pat-yourself-on-the-back feeling.
In fact, doing things truly selfishly, without even a good feeling from doing it, is considered a sign of possible mental illness. Human beings are self-centered.
likewise because of our conscience, doing truly repulsive things can be considered a "selfless" act since it makes us feel bad. which goes further to show that our feelings don't determine the morality of our actions; the actions themselves are what counts.
Whether mr beast did it with the intention of earning more money with the video or not, what matters is that 1000 people have been cured of blindness. That said, we fact that those people received help because of the intervention of a youtuber kinda shows how fucked up the system is.
I do not understand how people can be so mentally fried as to blame the person offering a solution to a problem rather than the problem itself.

The dude is helping a lot of people.
someone finally said it!!
Nobody here disagrees, this isn't Twitter...

@@freespeechisdead202 and what's wrong with him helping himself? He's still helping so many other people
@@love13f You still dont get it.
Yeh its ok for one to help themselves, but covering up 'good deeds' to avoid taxes that should be going into the economy and to the ppl in the name of democracy as a whole is nothing short of self indulgence and tax evasion. If rich folks were paying taxes rather than hiding under the guise of philanthropy then the whole nation would benefit not just a select few of which rich folks choose for self gain, publicity and gains.
Would you rather rich folks pay taxes to benefit a nation of 30M ppl with needs, OR
Rich folks avoid paying taxes through 'charity stunts' of their own choosing to benefit 1000 ppl.
This is why there are so many charities these days because the rich are avoiding paying taxes and it is the public that are paying and donating to charities and yet still doesnt benefit everyone.

And you know what? Those car or money giveaways he does whether for strangers or his friends? Those videos fund videos like this
I think most of the criticism isn't on Mr.
People on Twitter would nickpick what you just said
Saying:"so you're saying blind people can't be a functioning member of society, you're so racist"
No matter what you say or do,people will still find something to complain and nitpick about
I think people are forgetting that basically every act of kindness can be considered selfish.
I agree, at the core, even love is selfish, because it gives you dopamine and you want the person to feel good, because it makes YOU feel good
Agreed, just like saying "hi" to a teacher in the hallway.
likewise because of our conscience, doing truly repulsive things can be considered a "selfless" act since it makes us feel bad. which goes further to show that our feelings don't determine the morality of our actions; the actions themselves are what counts.
Whether mr beast did it with the intention of earning more money with the video or not, what matters is that 1000 people have been cured of blindness.
That said, we fact that those people received help because of the intervention of a youtuber kinda shows how fucked up the system is.
