Don’t worry they will. They’ll sue the department, the officer, and the railroad. I am pretty sure qualified immunity doesn’t apply in this situation for the officer.
given the training needed to be a police officer, this has to be assumed as a murder attempt, because if not then it’s just pointing out the fact that the police system is so grossly inept
So while they're easy to avoid when you see them, they're actually super quiet when not near a crossing as they don't have to use the horn and move super fast. Source: I work for the railroad and we have tons of meetings about people and employees getting hit.
The thought of being handcuffed and locked in a vehicle at night and seeing the headlights of a train coming straight towards you is literally something out of a horror movie. I hope the officers involved are charged.
Rest assured they won’t be. Police brutality is at an all time high right now baby😁. Since it’s been recorded in the 1980’s it’s higher than it’s ever been. And barely any cops are being charged. Early this year an elderly man was shot by a completely unprovoked officer 9 times at point blank range execution style.
spoilers: they'll probably go free and the suspect is probably still sitting in some awful county jail at this moment while the officers are on paid leave
I feel bad for the poor conductors who were probably screaming for them to move and had no way to brake in time and then had to face the horror of colliding and having to skid along with the car for like a mile. Shits gotta be traumatizing for them too.
Right. That would haunt me forever. Especially with the context that a woman was chained in that car with no one paying attention to her nor trying to save her.
I'm reminded of that horrific video of "Traingirl" from the 90s. They forced the conductor to recreate the accident while her corpse was still there. Traumatic as hell
I don’t think they should be traumatized. If I saw a cop car on train tracks the last thing I’m gonna think is. Someone might be in that car. Because I’d like to think if cops parked on train tracks and didn’t move as a train was coming that nobody was in the vehicle
Tbh, and I’m usually not this harsh, but every officer involved should face prison time for such gross negligence in a position of such authority that someone is in your custody unable to move or anything
Pretty rare for cops to go to jail because of police unions, it's the same reason they got *paid* leave. They always get paid leave in cases like these.
@@humansizedbirdnest9435 sadly the worst charges were dropped and the trial started in March. Nothing will happen as usual. The idiot who parked on the tracks got fired but apparently they had a long history of violence, surprise surprise.
How silly do you have to be to say something that isn’t true and then call the cops dumb. Attempted murder requires intent, but this was just blatant stupidity so it could potentially be considered attempted manslaughter. The cops are super dumb, but you might also be dumb yourself
The worst part is that they could obviously hear the train coming while they’re talking to her, and just keep talking to her then wait until the last second to bail. There’s no way they cannot hear a trains horn, you can literally hear them from miles away.

Out of all the stories of police officers fucking up, this one is the most infuriating. Not only does that woman have permanent injuries and some people blaming HER for the accident, but the engineer of the train has likely also gotten alot of mental trauma from this, making it TWO victims of police incompetence.
Good point, the poor driver was blasting the horn but there was nothing they could do, who wouldn't expect a car to move out of the way?! Apparently it's common for people to try to commit suicide in front of trains too & often the drivers/staff are traumatized from it. Obviously the poor woman will be worse affected. Clearly her body will be messed up but I can't can't imagine the mental toll such a terrifying experience will be. Nevermind them leaving her physically disabled for the rest of her life, due to sheer incompetence, of in my opinion attempted murderer.
Yet some people are just saying how she's gonna get a bunch of money from the lawsuit. Her entire life she's never gonna be the same. SOOOOO many health issues will carry forever. As well as the train driver PTSD. But money money money

They’re absolutely gonna get sued, I’m sick of seeing people say they go without punishment when in reality they do get punished. Just not by their superiors….
Thank you so much for highlighting this specific incident. That police department tried to keep this under wraps, and refused to write a statement on what happened, until after they were called out by numerous news agencies.
Sad but if you want better police you all are gunna have to stop hating them. Police are dumb bc the public is giving 0 reasons for competent human beings to waste their time being a police officer. Everyone says "fuck 12", nobody respects police, and you get paid 50-60k. Why would an intelligent person waste their life doing that.
God I can't imagine the terror that poor lady felt before the train hit let alone the pain she's feeling now. If I had heard this story in passing I wouldn't have believed it.
The really sickening thing to me is that, if we're being honest, the police officer probably wouldn't have gotten convicted if she actually died. Probably wouldn't have even gotten _fired._
The absurdity and incompetence of these officers is just unbelievable. How can anyone be this ignorant and stupid? A lawsuit isn't enough. There needs to be criminal negligence charges brought against them. What they did was unjustifiable!
I agree! Primarily since it is public negligence not only for the person in the car but the people on the train. Even more so from a person in power in a situation that gives them the right to physically hold you. It is fucked up!
A TON of people wait in the middle of train tracks when traffic starts slowing instead of crossing when there's room. Even when there are signs stating DO NOT PARK ON TRACKS, people still do it.
for real it's so stupid it feels like attempted murder at this point, they surely heard the train coming, they clearly had the time to take the suspect out of the car
This is one of those events so traumatizing and ridiculous that when people ask what the victim's injuries are from they won't believe her. Absolutely horrible.
I’m surprised they didn’t try to put the blame on the train operator with how silly this situation was like my goodness. What’s going on with the world.
I can’t imagine this as an “accident”, I genuinely believe someone could only do this if they were intentionally trying to kill someone. The officers should be investigated for attempted murder
even if it was attempted murder, the cops will get of with a fucking warning or something. cops can kill an innocent person in front of everyone and still keep their job. its insane
This is legitimately one of the ways count Olaf tried to kill the siblings in a series of unfortunate events. Literally how can someone accidentally do this shit.
Not only should the woman in the car be compensated, but the train operator as well. Could you imagine the trauma of knowing you're about to hurt someone with your train and there's nothing you can do about it? That would keep you awake at night.
I know right. This dude was just doing his job and someone tried to use him as a freaking murder weapon! The dude is just living his best life and these assholes bring him into such a horrible situation that will give him and the woman nightmares.
Train operators have it pretty bad in those cases once you think about that. Animals are something to deal with let alone people, sometimes suicidal, sometimes vehicles... and sometimes this

Another comment said that 2 officers had already searched her vehicle and were unable to find anything and then a 3rd officer showed up and miraculously found a gun in her center console.🤨
This reminds me of my Grandma, she was driving on the road when a cop sped past at 90 miles an hour (this was proven correct) and hit her, they found him guilty and... did nothing, her shoulder was fucked and had to get a metal plate surgically put in her shoulder for her arm to work and she had to pay all of it off her self, the officer got PAID LEAVE (for a only a week btw) and my grandma got nothing, not a single penny for what happened (also the case to see if he was guilty took almost an entire year to reach a verdict even with multiple eye witnesses, the crash occurring on a freeway, as well as multiple camera's catching the crash as well), gotta love the system am i right?
We honestly need to get a group of vitims like your grandma, this woman, etc. to come together and call out the system because at this rate an officer could publicly execute someone on the street for the fun of it and hed just get paid time off
The train was so loud and bright. He was yelling over it and then just left her there. I feel so hopeless, we so rarely see justice. The poor conductor, that poor woman.
Pigs are gonna act like they always do. They do not care about people that aren't cops. This goes for the large majority of police and they have proven this fact time and time again. It's not a few bad apples, it's almost all of them.
I have a friend who works as a train driver and says a lot of his collegues are traumatized by the accidents, deliberate suicide attempts they've had no means of stopping. You physically cannot pump the breaks and slow down in time to stop it from happening. You also have to get outside and witness what you have inadvertedly become a part of. Yes, that's right. Those pigs scarred at least two people for life.
Most people don't think about this. My dad works with trains ever since i was born, he witnessed stuff that traumatized him for days, weeks, months. Aren't there supposed to be sensors (alongside the track, not inside the train, obviously) that alert the driver to obstructions on the crossing before they get there?
The worst part is the cops cracking jokes after the train hit and still searching her car, trying to get her on a crime to make it look good. They all should be suspended/fired.

Here in Poland there was a loud case of the same happening, with the difference being that the instructor bailed on the trainee. Wasn't this literally a way count Olaf tried murdering the Baudelaire children in a series of unfortunate events? It's like how cartoon villains murder people.
Hey Charlie, I've been a railroader for ten years, so just a quick correction: trains are actually very quiet until they're relatively close to you, especially in snow. The only loud part about them from far away is the horn. That's why so many people are killed by them when they are using their lizard brain and walking down tracks. In this instance, and at night, there's no excuse for not seeing the train coming because you can definitely see the headlight from at least a mile or two away. Plenty of time to move your vehicle off the tracks, which you shouldn't have parked on in the first place.
I do still find it insane that they casually talk over a blaring horn for what is shown for atleast 4 seconds. So though I don't doubt the train itself is quiet, these people practically had as much time to react for as long as the conductor noticed them.
Usually there’s a gate that drops on road intersections with a track… so they obviously pulled the cruiser onto the tracks from an off-road path. The flashing crossbar that drops gives ample time for anyone to get alerted to the oncoming danger. The amount of gross negligence here along with the location of where the cruiser was parked makes it obvious that this was definitely planned. All three officers should be charged with intent to murder, along with those who dispatched those officers.
hmmm.. victim kicking and screaming because they can see death approaching, while surrounding officers ignore her and somehow fail to notice the obvious threat to her life... yeah totally not a murder attempt
Even if they did, the money would come out of the city budget, not the cops wallets. Unless they receive criminal charges there can be no punitive action brought against them, as an individual officer cannot be prosecuted in civil court for something they did under the purview of their job.
@@brodyselby8406 The punishment of the officers is not up to the victim of the crash. What the victim needs is just to be made whole again. So like you said they would sue the department or city itself, but then the city can also go after the negligent officers in turn.

I live in Colorado and saw this Live on the News yesterday and they showed the full video. One officer tried to tell the officer to move her vehicle with the suspect inside, about 3-5 seconds before the train hit the car so no valuable time to move the car. Also when they saw the train coming they all hid, behind their cruisers, and you wanna hear the worst dirtiest part of this that Charlie doesn’t mention? As soon as the car is struck it gets thrown 50 yards and flips 50 times, and that’s a POLICE CRUISER a heavily modified vehicle to be tough, anyway once the train 🚂 hit the 🚔 police cruiser, the very very first thing the Female Officer who made the arrest and put the other women in the back seat, as soon as she sees her police car get hit she SCREAMED “NOOOO NOT MY CAR NOOO” with no disregard for the suspect. In fact 25 seconds later in the full video another officer asks her “wait wasn’t there a suspect in the back of your car” to which she replies “oh my god we have to go to the car”, they call Ems on radio, run to the car and when I tell you it looked crushed by a Boulder it legitimately did, the suspect being so hurt they couldn’t even show it on the Colorado Local News. So yes Charlie all these Cops here are incompetent, the funniest/saddest thing being as you said not one officer had enough intelligence to say “hey maybe you should move just in case a train comes you never know” but nope. And then after the train hit they only cared about the car not the suspect, and The suspect parked her car 10-20 feet in front of the tracks giving enough room for the officer to park behind her and not be on the tracks, still the female officer chose to keep distance and park on the tracks. So yes I saw this live last night and your right Charlie this is sick.
The female officer wasn't the one that parked the police cruiser on the train tracks though. It was the male officer Vasquez. The female officer was the one to put the female suspect into the cruiser though so she's still at fault. The male officer should be punished also with his lack of awareness for parking on the tracks.
In addition to everything else wrong with the situation, the psychological trauma that the suspect has to now endure probably forever would be soul crushing.

Yeah that *blaring* *horn* is real discreet
I do still find it insane that they casually talk over a blaring horn for what is shown for atleast 4 seconds. So though I don't doubt the train itself is quiet, these people practically had as much time to react for as long as the conductor noticed them.
you can hear the train at the start of the video before the cops ‘notice’ it too
Usually there’s a gate that drops on road intersections with a track… so they obviously pulled the cruiser onto the tracks from an off-road path.
@@prolastmedia6171 "the only loud part about them from far away is the horn"

@@nib1448 Depends on if the suspect lives long enough to get it to court.
