Nope. They lied about the cause of the crash. Said they swerved to miss a dog crossing the street. Then lied again saying that they were avoiding a parked car. Then lied aTHIRD time saying the radio on the dashboard distracted the driver.
The owner had the audacity to be upset about his bar being put out of business for repairs. How dare he show any sort of anger towards a police officer /s
The other cops just assessed their co-worker didn't need a sobriety check after crashing his vehicle into the building, didn't have dash cam footage, wont release body cam footage. Seems like a normal day in STL Johnson.
And of course, the department bans any transparency on this incident. The public deserves to know but they will always cover for their own. Back the blue until it happens to you.
why do they even still have this privilege? isn't this unconstitutional? a department having full control to decide wether they commited a crime or not?
Basically why the defund and rebuild protests exist. Ideally we could have a system of oversight and more training. It's sad to see the required hours for our police compared to other counties.
It's wild to me that police can do whatever they please with no repercussions and some people don't see a problem with this. When majority of police officers barely graduated high school and are still trying to relive their glory days in high school. It's pathetic.
Unfortunately cops who do whatever they want get away and still get pensions and paid even if they are suspended or fired. And sometimes all they do is just go to another department or another state.
@@bgardenhire93your comment is WHY the comment is VERY factual. This thing crashed into a building and it’s the OWNER who was arrested. He was clearly drunk and you’re over here talking about “this sounds personal”
I think the bigger issue is people just don’t want to be cops anymore and we’re kind of just stuck with whatever we can get. My city used to require 60 college credits to join the police academy and had to stop that because nobody wanted to go through with the process, by then they’d have more rewarding careers or a change in mind.
With how many stories involve an officer causing an accident in some form or another, and arresting the victim or a bystander, has me believing that its part of their training to find a means of deflecting their incompetence to have it handled internally.
well I'll let you know I'm going into the police academy next month, but that obviously doesn't exist, just ignorant cops that use their power for their own personal benefit happens too frequently. (havent watched the video yet)
Both officers were also rookies which is disallowed by the system. You're always suppose to have one senior and one rookie. There's a bunch of questionable shit going on with this.
It happened while it's very dark outside. It is very understandable to see how anyone in this situation (referring to the bar owner) would feel like they are being attacked and their life is in danger. The police vehicle didn't have any of its patrol lights flashing so it's very reasonable to think that it is someone attacking your establishment and not a police vehicle that ran into your building.
yep! Especially since it's a gay bar...I'm sure these two men had some homophobic nutjobs harrasing them at some point...it wouldn't be crazy at all, to assume that some hateful person would try and destroy their property on purpose and even try to actively kill them.
reminds me of those stories where cops did no knock warrants, then acted all offended when one of them gets blasted by a homeowner thinking it's an invasion. In one of those cases the police chief's son was blasted, and the civilian went to jail. Unannounced no knock raids at 4am are so dumb unless it's like a freaking paramilitary drug operation.
I can say this is crazily common among even otherwise excellent departments and I have no idea why. It’s absolutely wild. Just a few years ago an old acquaintance of mine got stopped for DUI (he was genuinely smashed) and was about to get arrested by the officer when an off duty detective who was also drunk hit and killed him. They not only covered up the identity of the detective but pinned the death on the other guy claiming “well the officer wouldn’t have been stopped in the road if you weren’t drunk so it’s all your fault he’s dead.” They omitted evidence in his trial and he spent years in prison before an appeal finally made it to an actually competent judge who went “wait this is completely batshit insane” and ordered him released.
I remember hearing somewhere that police will often come up with some bogus charges to throw at someone to try to scare them away from taking legal action themselves.
When I took a court ordered driving class for a traffic citation I got as a youngster, I learned that you absolutely should not swerve or slam on your breaks suddenly to avoid an animal because that crash could be more deadly than the initial collision. So his fake excuse would have even owed him a citation
Except the money they win isnt really the police departments, it is the tax payers. They really need to start garnishing officers (and the higher ups) wages when they pull this sort of thing and the department has to give a huge payout.
sometimes i wonder how these people get hired to be a cop in the first place. like how tf you gon give out tickets for speeding when you cant dodge a building?
I find the cop lying to be the worst part. The second they're caught in a single lie, credibility goes right out the window. Anything else they say may as well be high fantasy fiction, tell me about your last D&D run, because at least that'll be amusing
Other thing about this is that they never checked the "police officer's" blood alcohol at all. And any non police officer would have been checked out and arrested for DUI.
So just a couple thing from someone who lives in STL: 1. We are actually pretty proud of our old ass buildings. Most everyone that lives in STL lives in a building that’s at LEAST 100 years old or more. My apartment which was a home, was built in 1890. I know the lawyer and he’s an amazing human!
He was commiting a hate crime see the owners of the bar? This cop knew what he was doing that is why there is so many excuses. Never trust them, never talk to them, always film them. Also there is no dashcam video it some how didn't have one and they won't release the body cam footage. Because it will show the truth a criminal commiting a crime.
The fact they are saying it's an accident while also refusing to show the video tells you enough. If it was an accident with him moving out of the way to not hit something this would be a simple "show dashcam footage, pay for damages, the end" kind of story. Yet they are refusing to show the video, didn't do any sort of field sobriety test, detained the bar owner right away and now are refusing to talk about it. Yah something doesn't smell right and we can all smell it from miles away.
Drunk and speeding. The other responding officers refused to do a DUI check on the driver. In a just world, they'd go to jail for falsely arresting the bar owner. We normally call this "Kidnapping" and to do so to try to cover up your drunk driver makes it first-degree kidnapping - which carries a 10-year minimum sentence and can go as high as life. There's at least 3 other officers who knowingly abetted this.
They could've totaled their business and then tried to ruin their lives with felony charges. But even though the police changed multiple stories and conveniently don't have body or car cam footage and vehemently denied breathalyzer tests, they will take a little paid leave while they investigate themselves and find nothing wrong. They'll be back on the streets with the state sanctioned power of life and death in their hands in no time.
The name of the officer who slammed the car in the shop is Ramelle Wallace. According to a later revealed video, he arrested the shop owner because he was screaming. And would you look at that. Officer wallas is no stranger to lawsuits. In 2021, St. Louis resident Charles Singleton sued Wallace because he brock his leg during arrest and in the same year he was sued for illegal and excessive use of pepper spray. The officers have now provided a third version of the story - the driver was distracted while attempting to tune the car radio - and will be “accountable” for their “mistake.”
yeah, and these cases shouldn't be able to be internally investigated, but they are, so they won't get in any trouble, they are basically dictators, if you dare to talk back to them, BAM, you'll be lucky to get out with contempt and resisting arrest, because then you will at least be still alive

this was without a doubt a hate crime. two rookie cops, no dash cam or body cam footage, crashing into a gay bar and arresting the owner. these people should be put in prison immediately
Honestly was my thought too. With how long the history of police violence against the queer community is, I'd be shocked if it wasn't somewhat rooted in discrimination. That swerve looked really intentional in my opinion but we all know the cops will barely even get a slap on the wrist for this.
That seems like a massive stretch. I doubt that cops would deliberately crash their car into a gay bar and arresting the owners because they hate gay people - they aren't going to want an accident on their record. What is far more likely is they accidentally crashed into the bar, and then arrested the owner who had the nerve to be upset about it.
Charlie should look into the story of the guy who got rejected from working for the police force because he was too smart. I feel like we should look into THAT for sure. Why would having intelligent law enforcement be a negative?!
Some departments actually have IQ limits that automatically disqualify people. The job itself attracts power hungry psychopaths though, so ironically, it might be a good thing that high intelligence is a limitation. Some high IQ serial killers like Ed Kemper had aspirations of being cops.
The reason for that is because intelligent people are harder to boss around and won’t just “follow orders”, and there is a higher chance that a smarter person will quit being a police officer faster for better opportunities, so it would not be cost effective to train someone who will quit. That’s why you’ll never meet a high IQ (and that’s actually what they test, funny enough) police officer.
American police are OUT OF CONTROL. END QUALIFIED IMMUNITY NOW. END ALL GOVERNMENTAL IMMUNITY. This cop is HAMMERED or he intentionally drove into the building or both!
@@Gwazi you've got to be joking dude right? Are you trolling right now? Every day there are more and more videos uploaded of cops arresting people for criticizing them or disagreeing with them. Just last week a woman was arrested for telling a cop she thought he was a bad driver driving dangerously. Two weeks ago, a man was arrested for telling an officer to "be nice" in a precinct. Throughout last year, about eight different people had viral videos for being arrested before flipping an officer off, which is basically the cop arresting you because you hurt his feelings. Cops are arresting people For holding up signs that the cops don't like. Cops are arresting people for recording them because they don't like transparency or accountability. Please notice that all of the activities listed above are legal and upheld by the Supreme Court to be constitutionally protected activities which means that by arresting you the officer has committed a federal civil rights violation and broke the law because of their feelings. A few months ago, a man was arrested for having a sticker on the back of his window that the cop didn't like, and he refused to take it off. I could go on like this for the next hour, but I won't. The point is that the evidence shows that American police are out of control because there is no accountability and no repercussions for them breaking the law. Cops know they have qualified immunity shielding them from responsibility for their illegal actions so they will not stop violating rights and breaking laws until we abolish qualified immunity.
@@Maintenance_Mark Crazy how apparently every day numerous videos of police “obviously in the wrong” are being uploaded yet you are talking about old videos XD Give me a stat instead of arguing off of emotions. And it also serves a good purpose. But that’s irrelevant. I think there should be changes to qualified immunity. Because sometimes it is used for bad. What do you mean police are out of control? You think all cops are bad?
If the police claimed that a dog was the cause for the police car from swerving and crashing into the bar, why didn't the police press the break immediately? This doesn't make any sense.
I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to have a building just appear right in front of your car in the middle of a fun night behind the wheel drinking
Based on the two different angles that I've seen it looks like the cop car *is* speeding although still in control. At a first glance I genuinely thought it was an accident, but after seeing another video of the crash from a different angle and replaying both videos multiple times I genuinely think that this could've been deliberate. Not only because the SUV seems to be driving perfectly straight until it's already passing the parked car, but especially 'cause of the way the driver brakes. If you were trying to avoid crashing into something you'd hit the brakes and start turning *before* you get to it. But he doesn't brake until he's already right beside the parked car, then lets off the brakes and starts turning once the car is completely behind him. The only other plausibility in my mind is that he was driving drunk so his vision was obscured and his reaction time extremely delayed. Though the fact that they initially claimed they were swerving to avoid a dog and changed their story up several times makes me believe it was the first.
Guarantee the guy was upset that someone crashed into his bar/house and probably raised his voice a little. Fragile ego cop probably flew off the handle at someone not groveling and abused their power to put them in their place. It's a story as old as time.

When bar owners and local residents are left to clean up the mess left by the police, you know you have some serious police corruption issues in your town.
8:36 exactly what happened. He hurt his ego by driving into a building and being reprimanded by the owner. And then arrested him because he’s a big baby.
my assumption is that the bar owner came down agigated (reasonably so) and the cop who was already embarrassed and iriitated, took the owners surprise as an insult/"violent" because he clearly made a fool of himself.
Cop was likely balls deep into netflix on his standard issue PD laptop and noticed the car very last second; you can see the car jolt right at that point which looks like him making a last minute emergency maneuver. Swear a lot of these cops spend more time on their laptops while driving than they do actually watching the road; then want to give someone multiple tickets for having their phone mounted next to their steering wheel with Google Maps open for directions
Changing a story =/= lying. All three excuses are possible. He was distracted, he thought he saw a dog, then he rewatched the video and noticed that he object he missed was a parked car.
I can tell you exactly what happens. The owner wanted to know why the hell a cop car crashed into his building. The cop didn't like that. Somebody was speaking to him in a way that he didn't approve of and his ego couldn't handle it. So he took the first opportunity he could to escalate the situation to violence and arrest the man on some BS charges
100% that police officer had a grudge against the bar owner. The road was clear, and he only started swerving after passing the parked car. He also made no attempt to correct his heading or slow down.
I live near south St. Louis, and it's home to some of the worst police officers I've ever seen. I'm not surprised this happened. If it was a metropolitan police officer, I would not be shocked. A couple of months back, I had to call 911.... And nobody answered. There was not even a 911 operator. Nothing. It was an automated response saying to call back later. I was completely distraught.

Bar owner comes out: WTF? Cops: STOP RESISTING!!

And would you look at that.
Officer wallas is no stranger to lawsuits.
In 2021, St. Louis resident Charles Singleton sued Wallace because he brock his leg during arrest and in the same year he was sued for illegal and excessive use of pepper spray.

"without a doubt" idk man, I reckon the police officer was probably just drunk, since other cops refused to test him for DUI.
Honestly was my thought too. With how long the history of police violence against the queer community is, I'd be shocked if it wasn't somewhat rooted in discrimination. That swerve looked really intentional in my opinion but we all know the cops will barely even get a slap on the wrist for this.
It's really dangerous to assign intent to people you don't know or have any insight into their thought process.
They only want dumb, violent thugs and the ones who’ll keep quiet about those. Intelligent people are seen as too unpredictable and likely to report.
Some departments actually have IQ limits that automatically disqualify people.
The job itself attracts power hungry psychopaths though, so ironically, it might be a good thing that high intelligence is a limitation. Some high IQ serial killers like Ed Kemper had aspirations of being cops.
Also the landmark cases of cops not having to protect civilians.
A child died.
Because "just following orders" isn't something intelligent people fall for.

Cops are arresting people For holding up signs that the cops don't like.
Cops are arresting people for recording them because they don't like transparency or accountability.

@@presidentbutterpudding4025 that's also possible. The crash looked pretty deliberate. Could have just been a plain old hate crime
dude was so drunk he thought a parked car was a dog lmao
100% that police officer had a grudge against the bar owner. The road was clear, and he only started swerving after passing the parked car. He also made no attempt to correct his heading or slow down.
Yep, he totally drove straight into the business...did I make a pun?
I live near south St. Louis, and it's home to some of the worst police officers I've ever seen. I'm not surprised this happened. If it was a metropolitan police officer, I would not be shocked.
A couple of months back, I had to call 911.... And nobody answered. There was not even a 911 operator. Nothing. It was an automated response saying to call back later.
I was completely distraught.
Some guy at the Richmond Heights Metrolink shot off a gun right in front of me.
He walked off pistol in hand close enough to me i could have reached out and touched it and it happened right in front of, one of the cameras, i called the cops twice after, waited for over 30 min, they sent a metrolink security guard.
Police dont give a sh&t about a damn thing.
@@sj_bakowski7934 we're doomed 😩😩😩😩
