The fact that a CZ shadow 2 rivals an atlas is awesome not to mention that it's way more affordable just as accurate definitely more dependable and way more durable is really a testament to the guys from CZ that designed the 75. The gun came out in 1975 that's a 49 year old design still kicking the asses of anything that money can buy. All you gotta do is get a CZ shadow or shadow 2 and throw on a compensator or get the barrel and slide ported and bam you have the world's best shooting handgun without compromising any reliability or function it's unbeatable proven design is the best to date facts
The Shadow 2 is just hard to beat. I saw one at the gun store last week with a black and gold setup. For $1200 and change, it's tough to beat. IMO< of course.
That was the best video of its kind I have ever seen - hugely informative and you made my choice for the next weapon I purchase a done deal. Extremely well done and easy to sit through. Thank you.
First video of yours I've seen, I've subscribed. By the way I'm a Bull Armory addict, trust me they are awesome. CZ and Bull Armory are my favorite gun 2 gun makers.
Good stuff. I'm a CZ guy who's recently discovered 2011s. Love my Shadow 2s. I agree that they're the best price to performance, all around handgun out there, especially on sale. Mine didn't need any real upgrades except a lighter mainspring for a lighter DA pull. And to be accurate, CGW doesn't replace all the internals of the CZs into which they install pro packages... I've had CGW install 2 pro packages and I've installed 2 myself. I also have an Air and OMG - it is an incredible value for a competition 2011. They're hand fit and it shows. My slide to frame fit couldn't be better - zero play and it's smooth as silk. And the barrel lockup is completely solid. I've got an MPA DS9 Hybrid on order to compare to the Air. That'll be interesting. Oh, and the Air is about to be replaced by the Bul Blaze that looks even better. 🙂
@@Luca280 everyone should own one. I found mine used for $950 with total Cajun package. That’s really really lucky but $1k for a stock optic ready shadow 2 is fair
@@Luca280 Cajun gunworks. They tune shadow 2’s to a level that I can confidently say competes with most/all custom to semi custom 2011’s. Grip angle is different but I love the ergos on it. Just need the palm swell grips from Lok Grips.
If the Platypus had the competition trigger, bull barrel, new grip, and other options that would reduce recoil/muzzle flip, do you think it is on par with the Bul Armory?
The Bul Armory beats it in basically every single category (trigger, weight, accuracy, recoil, fit/finish, grip). That sounds dumb to say but it's very true. If it was my personal money, I would go Bul Armory every single time over Platypus.... but..... Bul has proprietary mags while the Platy uses glock mags....
@@MountainRidgeShooters Thank you for the info! It's crazy hard to find on comparisons. Looks like a Bul Tac pro is my next gun. Think an aftermarket threaded barrel on the Bul from like fusion firearms would work well for suppressing?
@@LogoxSKULgotta say, with about 3k rounds thru my platypus, I would be hard pressed to want to move away from it. The slide is buttery, my 4lb trigger is great (they go to 2.5#), the threaded bull barrel with a comp on front with a TL1-HL, kills recoil. And the new, extra prickle grip, it’s amazing. I’ve practiced in the rain with it, it has grip all day long.
@@pierreeschi yea I'm seeing Bul has MIM parts, 1 year warranty, and being overseas... Kinda thinking platypus again with the upgraded trigger, prickle grip, bull threaded barrel and full rail, optic cut, magwell. Then get an aftermarket upgraded guide rod and see about spring weight, recoil buffer, use a TLR-1 and suppressor. If that doesn't keep the gun flat idk what would.
Thank you for featuring our OA 2311! Regarding the grip, the polymer grip module itself is the same between full size and compact models. The magwell is interchangeable, you could run the full size magwell on our Compact and convert to a 17+ round setup. We hope you get more time on the platform in the near future. Cheers! - Mike
Try Bul Tac 2 Pro - the trigger an fit/finish, reliability are compatible with the Air , weight is lighter and the price is significantly lower. For my uderstanding , best entery level DS 1911.
I'm looking at the platypus 5 inch with the black nitrite finished bull barrel, full dust cover, various finish options, 3lb trigger. Originally was thinking about buying the bul SAS II TAC 5 inch (non pro) but i held the platypus right after shooting a Stacatto P yesterday (range rental) and was very impressed with the feel of the platypus (first time seeing and holding a platypus, and first time seeing and shooting a staccato). Also, i didn't like how I couldn't reach the slide release on the staccato with my shooting hand, but I can with the Platypus (although I had to adjust my grip). I'm also used to shooting polymer guns and not 1911s, so maybe that played a factor, but the platypus felt really good in my hands and right at home. Being that the Bul SAS ii tac seems to be a staccato replica has me wanting to buy the platypus instead (slide release issue and I can't customize it from the factory as i like the black nitrite finish on the barrel, while bul has polish finish)
@@drip2hard645 what feels better in your hand will make a big difference. I personally don’t ever use the slide stop/release and all my mags don’t have “last round lockback” so I can squeeze one more in there. Atlas also makes a great gas pedal for the 2011’s that does delete the slide release though. It also makes holster options difficult if you plan to use it for anything other than range toy/competition. I haven’t shot the bul SAS II tac yet but I would 100% grab the platypus over the Stacatto P.
How would you compare the CZ Tactical Sport 2 to these pistols? I have a Shadow 2 and Tactical Sport 2, and I'll be getting the Playtpus and P226 X5 Legion next, and a Bul Amory SAS II UR, Stacatto XC, and Alien Creator Limited Optics in 2026. But after seeing this video, I might want to consider the Atlas Athena over the Alien.
@@MarketAndChurch first of all, wow… that’s one hell of a lineup you’re going to get. I personally haven’t shot the TS2 but I have shot the .40cal TSO and from what I’ve been told they are about the exact same. With that being said I stand by my statement that the Shadow 2 is the absolute best shooting firearm for the price. No one comes close. The TSO and TS2 just fill the bigger caliber void if that’s needed. Try and find an Alien to shoot if you can because the trigger and the recoil impulse/return to zero on the original Alien is not even really close to an Athena. Also I just made a 2011 shootout video where if you can wait, order a Hayes custom over the Athena. As for the 226 X5… I love the 226 for it’s purpose, a rugged duty pistol that is more of a combat pistol to me. Especially in that price range. Great gun though!
@@MountainRidgeShooters Thanks for the advice, I'll wait for the video. I wanted a Hayes Custom a couple of years but I haven't looked into them for a while.
Excellent video. Shadow 2 has always been a gun that I have always wanted but never had the use case for (just not a DA/SA guy least when having to start DA). Recently getting back into competition and picked up a PDP SF for a considerable discount. Was curious what you're thoughts were on it? I'd also be curious to see your thoughts on the DWX. I plan to pick up one of those eventually for LO after I get decent enough with the PDP. I haven't shot comp in 10 years but when the DWX was announced i was overcome with joy. 2011 has always been too large for my hands so sitting here looking at a 1911 fire control mechanism with a CZ 75 grip sounded perfect to me.
@@5RWill I can’t comment on the PDP’s as much since I’ve only shot one mag through one. I did like it though. I wanted to like the DWX a lot more. I’m going to preface this with I only shot a couple mags with it. But for me to really love my CZ I need the palm swell grips since it is fairly thin and I think that was a lot of my issue. I also hated it didn’t come optic ready. I know they have since remedied that but I haven’t tried one in about a year now. Me personally, for the price, and since I already have a shadow 2, I would just slap a magwell on my shadow 2 and run that in LO instead of buying the DWX. Especially since you can start in SA in LO.
Purchased a Czechmate. Is it a step up in your opinion from the Shadow 2? Or different altogether? Had the opportunity and jumped on it. I’m otherwise not familiar with them.
You need a tanfoglio defiant stock master or the extreme version on this list. Once you do some work to the trigger like the shadow 2, you will love it even more. Especially with the weight and the bull barrel.
Truly enjoyed this high end 2011 (1911 DS) comparison. I'll probably snag a Bul Armory as a great value and excellent performer when I find one. Already have a Shadow 2 and Shadow 2 Compact. Great pistols, I love them. Can't justify Laugo or Atlas money at this stage so I just ordered an MPA DS9 LOC from a dealer who had one on order. It should arrive next week. Pretty sure (Hopeful) I'm gonna love it.
@@gair1944 you have great taste my friend. Another competitive shooter I do matches with often has a custom ported shadow 2 compact that is wild… Here soon we are going to film a video comparing how much/if the ports make a difference
I really enjoyed this. Thought you did a very nice job. The guys you were shooting with look like average shooters.. That’s a great group to test out these different levels. A high-level competition shooter can certainly feel the difference between these guns, but to the average shooter… I own an Athena as well as an Erebus and an Alien Creator Limited Optic. I have owned a tricked out shadow two (sold it to a competition buddy of mine who begged. My mistake) and still own an SP 01 that has been tricked out by CZ custom. I’ve shot the Bul Armory. I have owned nighthawks and Wilson’s and more staccato than I care to think about including the XC. I can’t really disagree with anything you say. I have told lots of high-end gun collectors and shooters that the best bang for your Buck is definitely CZ. I will say this though. The alien creator is an amazingly good gun. It’s just different from shooting the 2011 platform. I wouldn’t pick it over a 2011 and it certainly wouldn’t be the first high-end gun that I would purchase but I shoot it on steel all the time. It’s not going anywhere. I subscribed.
Thank you for the detailed response and I agree with you as well. The Alien, especially after watching the high speed, I just need a lot more time with it. It is not a 2011 trigger and that is really the only thing slowing me down with it. But, a few weeks at the range with it, and I think I could make it sing. Just for that price... there are better options. But as you said, it's not going anywhere because it's damn fun to shoot
I got to handle an Atlas Nemesis ,and it is ridiculous. The slide to frame figment is superb, there is no play very tight fit, yet so easy to rack like it’s riding on ball bearings it’s easily the nicest pistol I’ve ever handled would have loved to shoot it I can never have one because it’s like 7000 bucks
I am waiting on my masterpiece arms ds9 hybrid build.I looked at the bul armory, i just don't know if i would get good customer support or not. The ds9 is a really good 2011from what i have heard, but i haven't shot one yet.
@SmallArmsFirearms My Mpa ds9 cost $3400 which is still quite a bit more than the bul.Bul looks great but something is telling me the mpa will outshoot it. Won't know until i get it.
There’s a lot of different guns and people have different needs. Spend the time to learn what’s out there. But, to answer the question…CZ are the best! 🤣 okay, I should say “the best for me.” Beretta a very close second. Bersa is my goto budget brand. (Really they’re the best value). But, for some out there, Glock is it. I have friends who swear by Sig and I can’t argue. For PCCs and Rifles, I have to add in Ruger. And for someone who has large hands and doesn’t mind flip and kick, or a self-inflicted vasectomy, polymer striker-fired can fill their list. I want small, heavy, metal and the option to decocke
Id say thats probably the top tier gun list. Haven't watched any reviews. Love my shadow 2 just picked up czc 75 Bull Shadow accu. Not gonna go wrong with any of them.
@@MountainRidgeShooters if you can find one or scrounge one. Cz Czechmate. We had one on consignment at gunshop I worked at. Lightest trigger I've ever shot. Probably not safe lol
I'm looking at the Platypus. Would you say the flat grip frame was more comfortable than the finger groove one? Currently I'm thinking the grooved one.
For me, I hated the finger grove one and for some reason it caused the safety to dig into my hand. But that is purely personal preference. Two other people had the same sentiments about it also.
You’ve met someone now who doesn’t enjoy the Alien. I had one for a whole year. I shot it in around 50 matches and it was rare for it to get through a magazine without a failure to feed. It’s not a quick fix either. The round gets jammed between feed ramp and the magazine so you have to rip the mag out and then reinsert and rack it. Funny enough I hadn’t seen another one until the Iowa sectionals this year and he was having the same exact problems with the latest model. I felt bad for him. Also after an 11 course match your palm is pretty sore. The last complaint I would have is the constant maintenance and picky bullets because of the piston system. I traded it for a Titan and a Staccato and never looked back.
@@AverageCompetitionShooter I wanted to like it so much more…. I just couldn’t. After this video he had an out of battery detonation and we still don’t know why. I’ll have to ask him if he ever sent it back to manufacturer. And the OOB det. Happened during a string of fire, not like during a manipulation either
@@MountainRidgeShooters that’s scary. Thankfully mine didn’t do that. Mine went back three times and they blamed me. It’s a blessing in disguise for me though because after the trade for 2011’s I found some of the best pistols on the world. The Alien is a cool idea on paper but I’d highly recommend getting something different.
Earned yourself a new subscriber. Good choice of comparisons. Great choice would've been a Staccato instead of the Laugo. I also understand that a Staccato might not have been available from your group. My reason for watching is I'm considering a Platypus. I know Atlas makes the best gun(s) on the market (IMO). I'm not going to shoot competition. Therefore, I don't find the value for me, spent on the Atlas. However, now you've thrown this Bul Armory into the mix... For now, I'll keep researching, but thanks for a good video. I'll be sure to watch some more of your reviews.
If you can wait, or afford it, bul armory is way better when comparing just the fit and finish. The trigger, the slide, just everything about it is miles ahead of platypus. BUT! The platypus for its price, damn is it the sleeper for sure
@@MountainRidgeShooters I'm starting to lean towards the Bul... The price isn't the deciding factor actually. I'm looking for the quality of the build, looks, functionality, the entire package, at a reasonable price (IMO). Based on your opinion, I really need to start looking more at the Bul. I've seen a lot popping up about Bul, but really haven't given them a look. I thank you for getting back to me. My search starts tomorrow! Just out of curiosity... Do you have an opinion of the Canik TTI? Not the same category, just asking...
@@michaelkraus4115 IMO platypus really does crush it for the price, but if the price bump to Bul Armory doesn’t bother you… holy shit will you be way happier. Canik does an amazing job at their price point also. And exceeds it with the best out of the box striker fired trigger I’ve ever felt. But… I am very hesitant on the TTI Canik. I will preface this next statement with I’ve never seen, shot, or held one so it’s just a theory. But I feel like you could just add any comp to a normal Canik and probably get the same results. I just got a comp for my S&W M&P 2.0 and want to compare it to the high speed I have of it before the comp. I have a feeling the comps make all the difference considering my current testing. Granted… that’s a pretty obvious statement but it’s nice to see it confirmed on high speed.
@@MountainRidgeShooters I'll be sure to watch all your videos. I like your style. Also, value your opinion. Thanks much! I'll let you know about the Bul... 😉😍
Excellent video, thanks for the review! Agree that CZ S2 is best bang for the buck, I would've put the CZ Checkmate against the other high end guns though, similar price range and higher performance when compared to the S2. Thanks again.
Great reviews and I love the honesty but we all have different experiences as you know and here are mine: For starters and as an owner of almost all of the guns that you reviewed here I will say that 1. The alien is a brilliant gun and runs as fast and as flat as you can shoot it with the only downsides being that a) it get god awful hot, I mean too hot to handle and b) it gets dirty quickly and I mean really dirty. It is a cheat code in Limited Optics, 2)The OA is good, but I’d say more meh than great and for the same money you can grab a DWX which is fantastic. 3) I haven’t shot nor do I own the platypus but have heard great things. 4). The shadow two is among the most superb firearms ever made. Whether you are a competitive shooter or just a plinker, the ergonomics are absolutely second to none and the shadow 2 compact is wonderful to performance carry. 5) Bul Armory makes 2011s as well built and wonderful shooting as anyone. Period. 6) lastly the Atlas. I had an Artemis built for me, I waited and waited and finally got it and truthfully was underwhelmed, not because it’s anything short of buttery and well made but because the improvement over other manufacturers didn’t move the needle for me and when the extractor broke because it was faulty I waited more that 4 months to get a replacement. Yes 4 months. The DS9 Hybrid is almost the same gun from a practical perspective and half the price with better customer service but there are other guns I enjoy shooting more. Last point on the Atlas was a bit finicky with ammo which is not good in the heat of competition Honorable mentions: 1) Beretta 92x performance is a WOW 2) Walther Q4 SF is surprisingly fantastic and the 4” barrel and the steel frame seem to balance perfectly. 3) my fav carry gun and one of my favorite guns the Wilson Combat EDC x9 series. I have one in each size and even did my instructor qualifications with the 3.5” barrel. And surprise guns of choice for budget conscious people 1) Archon type B gen 2 is unbelievable for a polymer gun 2) the Echelon shocked me by how good it shoots Last comment is that the reviewer are so spot on when they say these are their finding and likewise those are mine but yours might be different. We are all shaped and built and have experienced the world differently and therefore our connection to a firearm will be as unique to us as our finger print so keep tasting all that life has too offer till you get the flavors that work with your palate!!
Very good informational video. I have a cz shadow 2 optics ready and shadow 2 sao and shadow 2 compact. + 5 or 6 other cz's and I am regretting not getting a 1911 style from your video. Hum. Maybe your video isn't that good. I have to save money lol. Out of all the high powers and 1911 for around 1500$ what do you all recommend.
@@edw1515 you’re in such good company with what you have it’s hard to say. Best value 2011 = platypus Best build/performance that is now updated from new testing would be either Atlas Athena or Hayes custom. They are identical so whatever you can find cheaper. But…. I still absolutely love the Bul armory SAS II air also. 2011 world is weird. It’s all expensive. And if you can save for them, you will not be disappointed. But for the price there are a few I would avoid (and here comes the hate). Staccato… you’re paying for a name. Buy Bul Armory and you’ll thank me later. Prodigy - great price to get entry but reliability has plagued them. It’s getting much better but not good enough for me when a platypus just flat out works.
Idk haven't put to many Rounds through it. I got Mac 9 ds. I mean of course it isn't a staccato but in all honesty they all feel about the same. For around 1000 bucks not bad. Then guys are dropping another 500 with atlas part etc.
Was slightly drunk while watching so might have missed it, but can you elaborate on your qualms with the Alien trigger? I have an Athena and was thinking of picking up an Alien but if the trigger is trash that's a no.
Love it, i fall down youtube rabbit holes when i'm drunk too. So.... Athena trigger is about the best you can get... but I have a new video coming out soon and I have deep regrets not buying a Hayes custom, because the trigger on that is just plain faster than my Athena. And I was for sure the Atlas triggers were the best. The Alien is just "different" for a better word. If you can hold off I'm going to ask my friend to let me run his Alien for about 500 rounds and give a better review. Because the Alien is fast... like really fast, but if you can't rip the trigger fast then what does the cycle rate matter. The best question would be, why do you want to buy the Alien? Range toy, collection item, or competition? Let me know and I'll give you a better idea
@@MountainRidgeShooters Partially as a potential LO gun but mostly because it's so different, honestly every gun now bores me... and I'd like to think that in theory the Alien is the future of small arms (fixed barrel, low bore, fixed optic is desired, etc.) Anyways good vid, and I look fwd to the update.
@@x0r187 as long as you get the version with the optic mounted to the slide I think it could work well in LO. It would just cost you more and if you have the budget why not. @@patrickkelly8095 yeah I get a lot of heat for that. I simply don’t own one and have only shot a couple here and there. Not enough to really comment on except they worked well and felt great. I can’t justify the price of them at this point with my current firearms so I’ll have to wait until someone stops by and let’s me really test one.
My money would go to masterpiece arms ds9... a little more expensive than the bull, but made in Georgia and it uses sti pattern magazines (the bul does not)
Seeing your video for the first time...abd this is really nice. Glued to the story from start to finish and repeat. Thanks from the Netherlands. Oh yea, question: how would the CZ Tactical Sport 2 (Green.. etc) compare to this array?
I haven’t had the chance to try the TS2 green but we did get to play with an original Tactical Sport Orange in .40 S&W The big difference for that gun is for limited division meeting major power factor while still being a soft shooting pistol that almost feels like a regular 9mm. The single action triggers on the Tactical Sports is amazing! Gun is very heavy and recoil control is super easy. You can’t go wrong with that pistol as long as it meets what you’re looking for in a competition pistol.
@@TheRange7 I JUST saw this pistol 2 days ago and I’m very intrigued about it. Cheap doesn’t always mean good/reliable…. But $1,100 still isn’t “cheap” for any pistol also. Headed out to film a 2011 video right now. I think we have about 10 different ones to test/review. Video coming soon
Which shot "flatter" as far as recoil and muzzle flip?🤔 I have a TSO and sp-01. The platypus might be next on my list or anshadow 2. Since u shot both, I was hoping you can steer me in the right direction
@@j-kamautomotive1817 It really depends on what you want it for. As far as muzzle flip and recoil... well since I have a thumb rest and the aftermarket palm swell grips on my shadow 2... yeah it shot flatter and I was able to control it better than the platypus. Stock shadow 2, would probably be the exact same compared to the platypus. If I was building a limited optics gun I'd probably go the 2011 route as the trigger can just be built faster, in my opinion at least. I also love the grip angle and ergo's of 1911/2011. Don't get me wrong, CZ ergo's are amazing too, I just shoot the 1911/2011 ergo better. You already have a TSO, getting a shadow 2 isn't going to be a "better" pistol. The TSO is amazing, but if you want to build a carry optics competition gun you can't use a 2011. If this is just for fun or range toy, I would say add the 2011 to your collection. Home defense, I would say stick with CZ because that's the battery of arms that you know with your current line up. Unless you have decent experience with 1911/2011's then flip a coin hah. Hope that info helps
He likes to grab onto the front of the trigger guard. I’ve seen people do it before but it’s not my favorite. But if you find something that works for you who am I to judge.
@@MountainRidgeShooters I have seen people grip over the trigger guard, but that's not what is happening in that shot. His finger is extended through the entire shot. I agree with the overall idea of "if it works for you, go for it", but when you find yourself doing something different compared to everyone else in a highly competitive sport, it's highly unlikely to be a case of you having discovered a better way.
Not sure it’s “fair” to compare your Shadow 2 with all the upgrades. I’m not saying it’s a bad gun, just stating the comparison should be units in stock configuration.
@@maybe5883 I can see where you’re coming from since the configuration I have it in would cost more than the $1,200 msrp you usually find it for. But, all the shooters testing with me that day also have a bone stock shadow 2 and agreed with the findings we had. The only real upgrades that made a difference was the LOK grips and the trigger job IMO. Which aren’t too expensive to do.
The only thing that's keeping me from buying the Platypus is that it doesn't have they steel frame. For $1,300+ the frame should be made out of a more reliable and stronger material. SS like Bul Armory pistol or at least 4140 or 4330 steel.
@@28_babyshark I mean even staccato uses poly frames. For the price point on the platypus it’s amazing compared to just about all the other 2011’s out there. In my opinion that is.
@SmallArmsFirearms On Staccato, they offer steel and aluminum options. Steel slide on an aluminum frame isn't good for long-lasting functions. The steel slide riding on the aluminum frame will open up the pistol tolerance on fitment overtime.
@@28_babyshark totally. But after a very very long time. And the price savings with the platypus it’s amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the steel frame of my Athena but it cost 3x as much. We all agreed that the platypus is the “sleeper” of the group for the price. But the shadow 2 preforms just as good or better and is also cheaper.
Bro I just bought a cz shadow 2 compact with the lok grips and I have to say my Mr920 with the ramjet afterburner is by far the most accurate and the one I can shoot the fastest . No matter how many new high end guns I shoot …. I can’t seem to find one that outruns the mr920 elite lol
Yeah, none of these had a comp on them or porting, that can make a massive difference. But I bet that single action on the shadow feels real good. Thanks for watching!
I love our Atlas, but our Nighthawk Shadowhawk is just as good, and so isn’t our SVI Infinity (mags are $150 by the way, I have 10 and just refreshed springs and followers). Best Regards
Happy Weekend, SAF ! As I can see you are now a huge fan of the Bul Armory Air, I am now offering mine for a truly sweet deal (especially for Floridians). Great price on an elite, rare shooter = awesomeness. If you, friends are interested, contacting me is easy peasy thru my channel. Cheers !
I have shot all the guns that you have listed here. I mean no disrespect, but with the exception of the Laugo, the Staccato XC, Nighthawk Sandhawk, Cabot Resurection are all better guns than the ones that you have reviewed here.
@@markvidosh600 I appreciate the feedback and I would agree some are better than others but IMO, I’d choose atlas over all you listed. But…. All of them, including the ones you listed are all amazing pistols hah
@@Korpzgrindr TTI has a new Canik but the sand viper is a 2011. Assuming you mean the sand viper? At that point just save your money and get the staccato XC if you really want a comped 2011
No way. No way this trigger is "bad" on the Alien. I own this, Atlas, Staccato XL, WC experior, Shadow 2 Orange, and several other high end pistols. Only the Atlas is close or possibly better. The reset is shorter and stock I get sub 2 llb pulls constantly.
I appreciate the input and your trigger might be better. We had 5 different shooters on all of these pistols. 3 of us have competed for years and shot dozens of different pistols for competition. All of our feedback on the alien was that the trigger finished in last place. Again, yours from the factory, or had work done, might be much better. I cannot comment on that but from our factory sample size of one, we stand by our assessment.
I am confused you speak of high-end comparisons, However, there is no Staccato XC or Wilson Combat TLR. How can you begin to talk high-end comparison and not have even a mention of these Guns? I am not just speaking of the price. Many shooters complain about the Alien overheating due to the barrel sitting on the frame. The CZ Shadow 2 is Mid-tier at best and the 2311 and platypus are boutique right now at best. I like your delivery of the review.
Thank you for the feedback. I would have loved to put an XC or Wilson in the group. None of us own one and that’s literally the only reason they weren’t included. At this point I don’t have the budget to buy more high end like this but would gladly test others when they become available. Just two days ago I shot a surprise video with a range friend that I’m editing up now which is another custom high end gun. As far as the CZ, I will have to disagree with you. Just because the price is “low” doesn’t mean it’s not a high end firearm. I mean there’s a reason most high level carry optics shooters all use Shadow 2’s. They are amazing for the price.
Proud to say I’m getting in on the ground floor of this channel before it gets big. Does this mean I’m an initial investor? Entitled to 5% of the channel and future payouts 😝. Just kidding… kinda
Platypus starts at $1400 on the site but yes, the wait times is what deters some. But sometimes you can find them ready to ship in a preconfigured setup also. My thing is after shooting both it’s worth it to wait for the platypus.
In terms of being a semi custom fit gun for sure. I’ve only shot a stacatto once and it shot just fine, but for the price I’d rather have my shadow 2. I love love love my atlas, but again, it cost me 5x more than my shadow 2 and the shadow 2 runs fast, super reliable, and almost returns to zero as fast.
+1 on shadow 2. was ready to get Atlas... shot Artemis. awesome. but not 7K versus the shadow 2. and then there's the Dan Wesson dwx. fast and so so so comfy with that cz75 grip. compact is also amazing.
No, the Desert Eagle is a gas operated rotating bolt locked action. It's more akin to an AR-15. The Alien is gas delayed. The HK P7 would have been a more appropriate comparison.
Report the facts. Don't say " it has a bad trigger" or..... Just statr trigger pull measurements, reset distance, full trigger travel distance.. facts, no whining, no opinions . Let the consumers decide. You have small soft hands, shooter #2 has large callused long fingers. That pistol feels great to them. Let the client decide. Sorry, I had to bail out @ 14:00 The whining was overwhelming.👎
Well I appreciate the feedback and I can assure you I was not whining instead giving my opinion which I reiterated multiple times. Not sure why it felt like whining but it was more of a disappointment for how much the pistol costs. I also did say that this is my feedback and I was guessing as I currently don’t have a trigger pull gauge. I disagree with the small hands as I wear L to XL size gloves. As far as soft? Lol not sure on that one. I prefer palm swell grips and the most aggressive textures I can get. I think if you made it past the alien you might have understood but I really do appreciate the feedback on the facts part and I do agree. I wish I could have given better facts with some and had more time with them.
@@oddsparrow8522 per Troy, the director of NROI: “The Alien is a single action gun which is prohibited under USPSA production and carry optics rules.” It has an internal hammer but it also has a trigger group/assembly that is very similar to a striker fired pistol. I specifically called this out in my video because I didn’t want someone thinking they could use it in carry optics. You could make an argument for both sides of the coin on this one but USPSA has made their call that the Alien cannot be used in carry optics because they consider it a SAO pistol.
❤❤Nine almost 10 minutes in and still talking ,yeah pretty boring ,most reviewers at least have the item they are reviewing in hand ,this review aint really a review
I appreciate the feedback and unfortunately I don’t own most of the items so I tried to fill space with B-roll and the high speed footage. I also attempted to explain in the beginning that these are more first impressions as I don’t own them and have as much time on all of them compared to my Atlas and my CZ
Great content. Not too brief, didn't shill anything, natural amount of emotion, excellent production quality. This deserves more views
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
This comparison was so good dude. Actually well articulated.
Have to disagree I own an Atlas Titan and bought a shadow 2 orange not even close
The Shadow 2 is just hard to beat. I saw one at the gun store last week with a black and gold setup. For $1200 and change, it's tough to beat. IMO< of course.

Very cool and honest video. Keep it up 🎉
I have like six designs saved for the platypus, but I'm kinda digging that Bul armory. Just beautiful!

Nice everyday Joe kind of review. Thanks
Great videos 👍 love the shalotek videos, just ordered my slide and flex frame for my p365 xmacro. Thanks for the help, keep up the good work 🇺🇲
Glad I could help and thank you. I really appreciate it!
awesome video
Great round up. I think you have convinced me to increase my budget a little and go for a shadow 2.
@@Luca280 everyone should own one. I found mine used for $950 with total Cajun package. That’s really really lucky but $1k for a stock optic ready shadow 2 is fair

Appreciate the kind words. Thank you
If the Platypus had the competition trigger, bull barrel, new grip, and other options that would reduce recoil/muzzle flip, do you think it is on par with the Bul Armory?
@@LogoxSKUL with comp and light, it’s pretty smooth. Love this pistol.
Also, it’s insane how low the optic sits on the slide.
Great vid, no long drawn out BS. Earned a sub man!
I really appreciate it!
Excellent information!!!

I really enjoyed this. Thought you did a very nice job. The guys you were shooting with look like average shooters.. That’s a great group to test out these different levels. A high-level competition shooter can certainly feel the difference between these guns, but to the average shooter…
I own an Athena as well as an Erebus and an Alien Creator Limited Optic.

Me too. A friend has a pdp but not the steel version and I want to spend some time with it
I'm looking at the Platypus.

Totally agree. I just didn’t have one available that day. But a friend does have one. Maybe soon in the future
Great reviews and I love the honesty but we all have different experiences as you know and here are mine:
For starters and as an owner of almost all of the guns that you reviewed here I will say that
1. The alien is a brilliant gun and runs as fast and as flat as you can shoot it with the only downsides being that a) it get god awful hot, I mean too hot to handle and b) it gets dirty quickly and I mean really dirty. It is a cheat code in Limited Optics,
2)The OA is good, but I’d say more meh than great and for the same money you can grab a DWX which is fantastic.
Last point on the Atlas was a bit finicky with ammo which is not good in the heat of competition
Honorable mentions:
1) Beretta 92x performance is a WOW
2) Walther Q4 SF is surprisingly fantastic and the 4” barrel and the steel frame seem to balance perfectly.
3) my fav carry gun and one of my favorite guns the Wilson Combat EDC x9 series. I have one in each size and even did my instructor qualifications with the 3.5” barrel.
And surprise guns of choice for budget conscious people
1) Archon type B gen 2 is unbelievable for a polymer gun
2) the Echelon shocked me by how good it shoots
Last comment is that the reviewer are so spot on when they say these are their finding and likewise those are mine but yours might be different. We are all shaped and built and have experienced the world differently and therefore our connection to a firearm will be as unique to us as our finger print so keep tasting all that life has too offer till you get the flavors that work with your palate!!

For 6k it should include a choice optic plate and 4 mags (atlas reference)
They do now let you pick one optic plate for the $5900 and come with 3 mags for any purchased after 1/1/2024.
I got mine a year ago.
No Staccato?
Any reason staccato wasn’t on the list?
Why would it be?
That’s what I was wondering as well.
Seeing your video for the first time...abd this is really nice. Glued to the story from start to finish and repeat. Thanks from the Netherlands.
Oh yea, question: how would the CZ Tactical Sport 2 (Green.. etc) compare to this array?
I haven’t had the chance to try the TS2 green but we did get to play with an original Tactical Sport Orange in .40 S&W
The big difference for that gun is for limited division meeting major power factor while still being a soft shooting pistol that almost feels like a regular 9mm.
The single action triggers on the Tactical Sports is amazing! Gun is very heavy and recoil control is super easy. You can’t go wrong with that pistol as long as it meets what you’re looking for in a competition pistol.
@@MountainRidgeShooters Some good info. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to more videos from you.
@@nicepojos8766 thank you
“Feels huge in the hands & I’m kinda blown away by that”
Fusion Firearms new $1100 steel framed model belongs in this list, IMO
@@TheRange7 I JUST saw this pistol 2 days ago and I’m very intrigued about it.
Cheap doesn’t always mean good/reliable…. But $1,100 still isn’t “cheap” for any pistol also.
I personally don’t have the random cash laying around to buy one so I’m stuck waiting to rent one, a friend buys one, or fusion decides to send me one to test hah.
Headed out to film a 2011 video right now. I think we have about 10 different ones to test/review. Video coming soon
@@MountainRidgeShooters I'm right there with you man. The days of stacks of fun money for me ended when I retired. LOL
Platypus vs shadow 2? 😊
I like both for sure, but I found my shadow 2 used for a great deal and I think they both perform similar.
When the guns you're testing are worth more than my entire house, car, personal gun collection and custom pool cues.😳😥😢😭😂😆🤣
Lol not quite, but Steve does have one hell of a collection
When you can afford an entire house, car, a personal gun collection AND custom pool cues. 😳😥☹️😮
You're telling me. I live in a dumpster.
I live in Cali I can’t have any of these 😪
I thought they have Atlas approved in Cali now?
Where’s infinity ?
@@allenf4645 hahaha. Man I wish. I’ve never even held/seen one in person.
I have never in my life seen any competition shooter use the grip pictured around timecode 6:30. Wacky!
@@LeelandOC I happen to agree with you on that 100%
yeah the platypus wait time is now 20-24 weeks. thats 6 months
Thanks for the update. They are getting much more popular and I can understand at the price point and the customization options.
I’m in California so my Mag capacity is as many push-ups as I can do too..😅 and my arms are small too, that’s why I can only do 10 push-ups…
@SmallArmsFirearms I like the Platypus and I love their website. I customize the pistol for $1800. For that price, it's to be made of steel.
@@28_babyshark I’m just saying that there aren’t 2011’s made with a steel frame for under $2k.
Living in south east asia, we had a slide from an Alien break because it cant take a NATO 124g ammo.
Well I wouldn’t have expected that. Good to know
Bro I just bought a cz shadow 2 compact with the lok grips and I have to say my Mr920 with the ramjet afterburner is by far the most accurate and the one I can shoot the fastest .
Best Regards
nice comparison, but no stoccato available?
good discussion.. check out GP Arms for a more affordable, better parts/ fitment- Bul Armory option.
@@blaiseeltine9516 haven’t heard of them but I’ll take a look. Thanks for the info

Canik Sand Viper
It’s a deal! Hah
laugo shoots harsh
@@rikt1541 it’s really fast and I think if I had a decent amount of time learning the trigger, it could be a crazy fast gun.
the platypus is 2k...you can find prodigys for 1100...and you dont have to wait 18 weeks..
Platypus starts at $1400 on the site but yes, the wait times is what deters some.
But sometimes you can find them ready to ship in a preconfigured setup also.
My thing is after shooting both it’s worth it to wait for the platypus.
Atlas poops all over CZs and Stacattos
@@rodanone4895 price for performance, shadow 2 is still king IMO
The alien gun is not unique or one of a kind the desert eagle operates the same way and is way older
I didn’t know that. Thanks for the heads up
No, the Desert Eagle is a gas operated rotating bolt locked action. It's more akin to an AR-15. The Alien is gas delayed. The HK P7 would have been a more appropriate comparison.
Very nice. But my state sucks!!! Our indoor gun shop and range closed!!! FJB!!! Trump/Vance 2024!!!!

@@lorcan2316 sorry man, I’ll try for more range footage next time.
I’m trying to get away from the “talking head” kind of crap.
A Alien is not single action
@@oddsparrow8522 per Troy, the director of NROI:
“The Alien is a single action gun which is prohibited under USPSA production and carry optics rules.”
It has an internal hammer but it also has a trigger group/assembly that is very similar to a striker fired pistol.
It’s a video presentation and pistol comparison which requires talking. It’s not an action flick.
