Serums vs Moisturizers: Everything you need to know about Vitamin C and Serums!

  • I have been asked many times on Instagram the question: What's the difference between a morning serum and a morning moisturizer? How do you incorporate both in your morning skin regimen? Watch this video to learn how serums are packed with active ingredients like antioxidants that will neutralize FREE RADICALS. By doing so, these serums are "anti-aging" and will hopefully over time soften fine lines, wrinkles and dark sun spots. Serums are used in the morning, while you reserve your retinoid for your nighttime skin routine which also has anti-aging benefits.
The biggest difference between Serums and Moisturizers is that Serums are lighter in texture and thus are used BEFORE your moisturizer and its antioxidant content provides an "extra punch" to start your day and boost your skin health while moisturizers are meant to hydrate, occlude or repair your skin barrier.
We also review Vitamin C or ascorbic acid, and how our body relies on this antioxidant in various ways. Definitely keep up dietary intake of Vitamin C and consider adding a Vit C containing serum.
My favorite serums with great anti-oxidants that you can access over the counter:
    1. La Roche-Posay's HyaluB5 (brings the "bounce" back effect to your skin- really plumps up your dermis and collagen in the morning) amzn.to/2Ys8rdn
    2. Skinceuticals CE Ferrulic amzn.to/2zTacG9
    3. CeraVe Vitamin C Serum (good intro to world of Serums, very affordable) amzn.to/2zVQ8TH
    4. CeraVe hyaluronic acid serum amzn.to/3c17Tz5
Then follow with a good moisturizer like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel amzn.to/3b0rVs3 and then your favorite SPF (my favorite being EltaMD's UV Clear amzn.to/35soIAt).
This being the fourth video, I am proud to say that I am teaching you the foundation for any solid skincare regimen for any age group. You want a good MOISTURIZER, SUNSCREEN, RETINOID and if you want to fine-tune your goals to target photo-aged skin, you add on a SERUM! This series of videos will cover the foundation to achieving your skin care goals!

I like how you explained the oxidative stress of the skin caused by those free radicals. I follow a diet to reduce free radicals in my body, it only makes sense that I would with my skin too! Time to update the routine. Thank you for this great info.

Hi! I've been watching your videos lately and it's been a great help! Thank you.
But I was wondering if you can give any advice in regards to essence(Korean) in a skincare routine? Is it necessary when I add serum in my skin routine? Or is serum enough? By the way, I do the 10x step skincare routine normally.

Mine skin has been a bit dehydrated, so I wished to try vitamin C. I got this riceberry vitamin C face serum by litlleexttra. This serum might be lightweight, not sticky, not greasy, and soaks in quickly. You can start using it in your daily morning and evening skincare routine. I spotted a viewable difference in my skin within a week. It left my skin silky, supple, well-nourished, and glowing. As it's not tacky or greasy, it's suitable for use in both summer and winter. The bottle is attractive and has got a pump, making it effortless to use. This serum is truly ideal for sensitive skin too. I saw my dark spots fading after using it. I just use 1 or 2 drops and gently massage it in round motions on my cleansed face and neck. I can look that my face looks smoother and my skin is glowing.

I don’t know if anyone else has wondered but there are so many options out there and sometimes none seem to work haha is there something we should avoid in them? rams g I like this cleanser a lot and say that it is okay to use long term especially if you have oily skin. If you have dry skin from it and over-do the oil removal, just stop at that point and switch to their gentle sensitive skin cleanser. Another cleanser I like for oily skin is la Roche Posay Toleriane purifying foaming cleanser

    • @danielsugaimd
      @danielsugaimd  4 года назад +2

エスメ you are right that less is more! I agree with that for many. Love that question too. I would actually say tailor the answer to: use a moisturizer if you tend to have dry skin (live in a cold area) or a serum if your family has issues with brown spots and you are worried you will develop them later on in life. In think 20 something year olds should start considering retinol creams (as long as not pregnant). Thanks for watching!!

would this be okay for a morning routine:
    1. cleanser
    2. moisturiser
    3. spf
    my skin type
    - started to be very very very dry and if you tried to apply cream it would dry out within a hour or so. now ive been using the innisfree green tea seed essence-in-lotion as my moisturiser. and i have to be honest, i dont always cleanse every morning but i have been trying to be as consistent as i can. always have spf on. you can tell my skin is very dry, but now its been doing better :)
