- Here are the recommended moisturizers I cannot live without.
There are a plethora of moisturizers out there with various ingredients. What key ingredients should I be honing in on?
In the video, I do an overview of the different types of moisturizers I like to use and their different functions based on key ingredients:
1. Hyaluronic acid: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (amzn.to/2VRORoZ) for the face; has hyaluronic acid which draws in water and increases water content throughout the day! I will do another video on serums which will also mention hyaluronic acid in your morning serums.
2. Petrolatum: Aquaphor (amzn.to/3bWKrmo) or Vaseline (amzn.to/2Sq26Lx) for ANYWHERE on the face or body; it is a great barrier moisturizer that traps in moisture. It is non-irritating like a lot of creams/lotions with alcohol and thus can be soothing for raw, irritated skin. it is also nice in protecting frictional areas from trauma. Most currently, our frontline workers are battling COVID19 with longterm use of N95 masks throughout the day and week and thus I have donated moisturizers including Aquaphor to hospital workers to help protect the facial skin during mask use!
3. Urea: Eucerin Roughness Relief: two versions that I like- 1) less urea and for large surface area of body (amzn.to/2xrZuFS) or 2) more urea and thus used as "spot treatment" on palms and soles of feet (amzn.to/3fac4dK); use either one for hands, feet, elbows/knees. Urea is a great keratolytic and removes dry dead skin very well. This particular moisturizer blends in well and thus will not be a bothersome tacky ointment on your hands throughout the day.
4. Ceramides: CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion for face or body (amzn.to/2KP4WFR), especially for those with dry skin or eczema. CeraVe also has niacinamide in their moisturizing lotion PM formulation (amzn.to/3bOJtbX) which helps with acne prone skin as well.
All products are over the counter and can be found on Amazon.com.

Hey doc, thanks for all this amazing content! I recently started using the neutrogena hydro boost gel and it feels great on my skin! However I noticed that with this product, similar to the Clinique moisture surge, I wake up with red spots/white heads on my nose and at times there are crusty bits on the skin of my nose with clear, yellowish fluid. Any tips or ideas what’s going on? TIA!!

Help! I’ve never taken care of my skin & just began last month! I ordered several products from Revive: Intensite Complete anti-aging serum, Intensite Complete anti-aging eye serum, Intensite luster night moisturizing cream & eye renewal cream. I’ve been using them for 2 weeks & absolutely love them! They made it enjoyable to do a routine instead of it seeming like a chore, which is why I never had a skin care regimen in the past… I bought products with great intentions but had no motivation or follow through! I then found an ad for city beauty uplifting serum, read & viewed many reviews & bought it! I’ve only used it a few times but I love it too! However I don’t know if I can incorporate it into the revive routine & if so, in what order! Both serums recommend using twice a day! Do I use one in the evening & one in the morning? I’d love to use both twice a day if possible but I can’t find out any answer to this & I’m afraid I’m going to become overwhelmed & give up! ANY advice would be SO greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi Dr Sugai! Can i please ask your opinion on using creams with Urea on top of actives such as vitamin c or AHAs and BHAs such as salicylic acid? Is that okay or would it render one of the other ingredients less effective?

Thank you for your expertise on skin products!! I have three concerns/ questions. 1: Best eye cream for crows feet 2: Best way to clean large pores on nose (do I apply retinol to my nose area too) 3: I have sleep apnea (I was advised not to wear any creams etc at night because I wear a facial mask ie covers mouth and nose.) you could try a chemical exfoliant for the pores. i have the one from paula’s choice with 2% bha and i love it!!

I have patches of skin on my arm that are discolored. Not noticeable from a distance but if you look real close you can see it. Any recommendations of how to get rid of it. I really appreciate all your helpful videos during this pandemic!
Kmcnicoll thank you so much for saying that and for supporting my channel! I am wondering if these patches are dark from eczema, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or from a yeast (tinea versicolor)? Regardless of diagnosis though, the mainstay rules would be to keep it out of the sun so that the sunlight does not worsen the darkening. Also use a moisturizer with urea like eucerin roughness relief over the dark spots to help exfoliate. I would not pick or scratch or over exfoliate with a brush or loofah; instead rely on the moisturizer. If it worsens or spreads, definitely see your derm for diagnosis. Take care!
Dr. Daniel Sugai It’s not dark spots. My normal skin color is like a light brown (tan) and then the spots that are discolored are like 2 shades lighter, but I don’t know. I appreciate the help doc

I got aquaphor but I just realized it says original formula lol can I still use it on my face if it isn’t the healing ointment
Retinoid damaged my skin by enlarging pores and now the pores are connecting to form many lines on cheeks when I smile. I’m an Asian woman and I have dry skin and no visible pores prior to this. It’s been 1 year and the damage is still there. Do you recommend urea for this? I’m very depressed and no doctor can explain to me what happened. Hundreds of us are suffering from this phenomenon.

Hi! Thank you for saying that and yes the hydro boost water gel actually has fragrance and so it youre sensitive to fragrance, you can switch to Neutrogena hydro boost gel-cream (very similar packaging so be sure to read label well). Take care!

i was looking for a new face moisturizer and considering either Eucerin UREA REPAIR Replenishing Face Cream (contains 5% urea) or
Gold Bond Ultimate Eczema Relief Skin Protectant Cream (contains 2% colloidal oatmeal)
may i get your opinion on those?
S hi both are great options but I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. Both are for very dry skin but some people are sensitive to urea on the face (eucerin) or can have an allergy to aloe (gold bond). So maybe just purchase one of each and see which works better. Or see your dermatologist who may have sample sizes for you to try. Thanks for watching!
Of those items, only the urea cream makes my face less red and dry. 🤕
update: after continuing to use the Eucerin urea cream on my face these few months, I'm no longer red and flaky!! I can even tolerate tretinoin. ❤ I'm happy I found your videos before and gave it a try. 🥰🥰

get the toleraine double repair moisturizer! the one with sunscreen is my all time favorite morning moisturizer. don’t worry about “male” or “female” marketing. it’s all skincare at the end of the day

Why ur creams are small
Probably sample sizes he has in the office to give to patients.
Would not recommend the neutrogena to very dry and sensitive skin. The neutrogena is fragranced will cause irritation like it did sting for me and it didnt even moisturise.
The neutrogena you need to get the hydro boost gel cream this doesn’t have fragrance.
