PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM URSFUR! (amazon) These are afterall proven to come from CHINESE FURFARMS.

*HOW TO SPOT A CRUEL CHINESE-FURFARM TAIL:*
    tail wise:
    - A typical chinese 'lobster clasp' usually coloured golden
    - blue dye (slightly blue tailtips can be spotted) to hide off colours from poor food
    - any visible rips, torns, spots,.. chinese tails have more odds to arrive broken due poor handling
    - poor leather (mostly greasy aka oils and fats)
    - shorter and generally worse looking tails, as if the animal was sick
    - 'faux fur' or 'fake fur' in the description even if it's clearly real or Also stating to be real
    Listing / shop wise:
    - 'china' being in shop discription, item description or on the shipment tracking information, or chinese store names
    - picture is a stock picture from aliexpres, wish, ebay,..
    - picture or seller can be traced back to (old) aliexpres, wish, ebay, .. posts
    - picture shows another colour morph than what is sold (ex: showing a frost fox tail under 'silver fox' name)
    - or received item is completely not what whas ordered (different size, different colour,..)
    - usually costs $10 or less, special colours for about 13$~
    - usually comes with free shipping that takes about a month
    - arrives airsealed and in a cheap typical chinese bag-package, or with chinese symbols on the etiquette

Not really a tip for real tails, though a tip for leather in general(like for collars). To protect the leather use leather wax (or leaterbalm, in case of emergency you can even use olive oil though not perfect it will do when extremely dried out)to protect them from dust, water, etc. It keeps it soft, strong and waterproof. Use a lot of it at first, rub it all over, let it sit for a minute then rub it in and off with a piece of cloth, let the leather settle for about 15-20 minutes and start again, now use a bit less, let it sit for a minute and rub it off again, repeat these steps untill your leather is soft but strong, it will also give off a slight shine, it's very important to rub the ecces wax/balm/etc off because else your lether gets very sticky. I do not have real fur tails but i do have a tail made from sheepskin which i protected from the elements by rubbing hairoil in it, smells great and creates an extra layer of protection against water, at the end of the day i would (gently)brush the oil and all the dirt, it collected during the day, out.

My first real fox tail sadly got eaten by moths. They were mainly living in a taxidermy mount and I didn't notice for almost a whole year. When I did and threw out the mount it still did not stop completely. The rest were all in the fox tail and it was shedding fur in clumps. (Had it stored in a drawer.)
So yeah hang your tails on the wall and check on them regularly...
On 50cm tails and longer: Never again for me. Looks awesome that's true! But they are constantly in the way and impractical. You kneel down and chances are you step on it while getting up. Dogs see a big tug toy. You constantly have to have that tail in mind... I'm staying in the 30 to 40cm range. But that's just me.😉

*PIN THIS COMMENT TO HELP OTHERS!!*
How to get dried up stiff leather from the inside of your tail soft again? these methods will prevent snapping and prolong your tails longevity!
    *1. Coconut Oil*
    -
Leave the leather item in the sun for 10 minutes or use a hair dryer to heat its surface.
Then, take a spoonful of coconut oil and rub it in.
*(Note: Coconut oil will darken the leather a shade or two!)*

    *2. Alcohol + Vaseline*
    -
Apply a generous portion of rubbing alcohol to a cotton pad. Then, dab the pad on the leather surface until it is shiny.
Afterward, apply Vaseline to the surface. You can apply a few layers if you feel that leather can absorb more. Leave it to dry overnight.

    *3. Leather Conditioner*
    -
Apply a leather care conditioner (lanolin-based product), to the leather.
If the surface is still stiff, you can apply several coats.

    *4. Mink Oil*
    -
Mink oil can be used on jackets, boots, bags, or other leather accessories such as tails from real fur!
Saturate a dry rag with the oil and apply up to three layers on the leather.
Rub the oil into the surface using circle motions. Give the oil 2 to 3 days to absorb.

I really suggest people look into faux tails. If I died, I wouldn't want someone using my body part as decoration or anything really. 'Ethical' or not, at least to me it's morally wrong. Using their tails or other parts of their corpse is just so disturbing. They deserve to be fully laid to rest, not to have their corpse bought by others. If there's an alternative that doesn't involve buying body parts, then shouldn't it be used instead? I used to think taxidermy and tails was cool, but now it's just disgusting and disrespectful. I see no beauty in the skinned corpse or bones of someone who was once alive, a soulless husk of someone. Their bodies aren't ours to profit off and use for our benefit.
Just another perspective to think about.

    • @lucid2957
      @lucid2957 4 года назад

Also, I'm disgusted that you support ANY furfarm PD. How could you support the breeding, the exploitation of our animal kin just so people can wear their skin as accessories? There's no such thing as ethical murder. I'm so disgusted and disappointed that you support that massacre.

    • @PDTherian
      @PDTherian  4 года назад +8

@@lucid2957 the only other option, is no tail at all. Fake fur is absolutely worst due being made out of plastic. Yarn tails include wool, which usually comes from rather cruel sheepfarms unless you are careful about where the wool comes from. Personally I don't believe anyone after death has a want or desire like 'I don't want my skin to be used'. If it doesn't get used, it'll just dissapear eitherway. Gone to waste basicly (yes ants etc can eat it, but it's not that they need it or that it gives them anything actually 'extra'). All that is, is human morals. Animals do not think about that when killing another animal or taking what they want. A fox on a furfarm does not know that they'll die, for them all what exists is their current condition. Just like an indoor cat (that's never been outside) doesn't know that there is an outdoor world. That we want to push them outdoors because of 'freedom' morals, is only on us humans (btw my cats are indoor & outdoor before you think I am an indoor-cat pusher). So if a furfarm cares very well for their animals (take a look at @flattailfurs on instagram please, walks their foxes, clips their nails, play with them in playpens, pet the kits, take sick foxes on their lap indoors, takes sick or abandoned kits to handraise,..) I personally don't see what's wrong other than a human moral of 'not to kill' (which ANY animal species has, but humans) (ofc, the animal has to die painlessly and such as by european standards calmed with medication to never stress or realize it'll die afterall)
Ofcourse, I've grown up around and on farms, I've seen the chickenfarm of my best friend. She cares more about these chickens, their happiness and health, than she probably does of her own siblings. I don't think in black and white, and my opinion on farms will likely never change sorry.
Other than that, could it be possible that I do not encourage real fur. But only produce the content the community either needs or wants? (tho in my case: fake fur is worse and yarn is a big neutral field. Real fur, or nothing of tails is my opinion. preferably roadkill or population control hunt ofcourse)
Personally also, I haven't bought new tails in years, and most I own are to lend out within the local therian community (so not just hanging on my walls). Because I have enough to lend out to people without buying their own if they wanna try another colour or the like.. I don't need any more. And as I do not collect fur, I will not buy any new tails normally. Unless from thriftstores and local markets (attics etc) which my last 3 also come from.
I would also say not to point at people for buying from furfarms as
being therefore horrible. As long as you either eat meat, eggs, milk,
fish, .., own any bird-feather filled pillow, any piece of real leather
on any jacket or leather sofa, any piece of coyote fur on a jacket, wool
hoodies, plastic lamps (plastic kills Way more animals in the long run
than real fur ever will), etc etc. Because all and any of these would
make you equally 'terrible' by that mentality
hope I could explain my reasoning behind talking about real fur on my channel. I don't need you to accept and understand. Just to read my side of the story.

My guess is that since cheetahs and leopards are more of an exotic animal and usually aren't raised as pets or in farms as much as foxes or wolves, there probably wouldn't be an easy and legal way to get a real cheetah or leopard tail. Tails that are made from foxes and coyotes etc, aren't raised for the fur, but they're usually found as roadkill and are raised for other purposes such as conservation and such.

hey, it seems like most (if not all) tails from Shein are from cruel chinese furfarms. Shein is not a safe place to buy your tails, they are cheap because they are imported from chinese cruel furfarms.
Shein is a wholesale company, simular to Temu, Aliexpres, Amazon, Ebay and Wish. All of these are used to distribute large quantities of products as cheap as possible to as many people as possible and these companies are known to sell almost solely chinese (cruel furfarm) fox tails.
I hope you enjoyed your birthday however and that you will enjoy these tails! :) You cannot help it, I too have received tails from cruel furfarms through gifts from friends sadly and I still use them up to this day. • @PDTherian
      @PDTherian  4 года назад +2

it's alright! just give it time, it'll return back to it's previous state. It may take a few days or weeks tho. The only way to speed the process of reforming back is to have air flow through the hairs and the tail moving. Hanging it up already does a good job, wearing it or running around with it too. Having a fan blow through the hairs a couple hours may also help. Generally, as long as it's hung up, it'll return back to normal on it's own! :) No worries. It happened to my tails too.
not all furfarms are bad. look at @flattailfurs on instagram! they even walk their foxes, clip their nails, care for abandoned kits and take them on their lap onto the sofa when they're sick. Just hope that it's not from a chinese furfarm (most of amazon & ebay, all of aliexpres & wish), as those are more cruel places where the animals live horrible lives.
