Hehe Thank you so much for commissioning me, and for the opportunity to make this lovely tail and tutorial! I hope it brings you lots of happy memories!
I have no clue why this showed up on my recommended, I’m not a furry, but damn i respect the amount of work that going into fur suits and their accessories and stuff. It’s honestly impressive
Most sewing machines that can do a zigzag stitch will also have settings for doing buttonholes; those will also give you a satin stitch as it's basically just a zigzag, set to whatever width you want, with the length set *extremely* short, so that each stitch is basically right beside the one before it. You might find that you need to tweak your tension settings a bit, especially if your fabric is at all stretchy; keep an eye out for truly impressive snarls happening on the underside! If that happens, you'll want to experiment on some scrap to get it just right, but usually you'll want to start off by tightening your tension up just the wee-est hair.
When you’re working with a new material, it saves so much time to take a couple scraps and sew them together with your intended thread, stitch, and tension to check that they work.
Even though I’m probaly never gonna do this, I still watched the whole thing and the way you went through it all with all that patience is amazing. I would give up in 5 minutes

Wow!! This is a true work of art and science, with the beauty and motion. This video came up as I was looking for reviews of mechanical tails - which are super cool in their own right, but THIS is what I’ve been dreaming of! I’m going to check out your website and see if you’re taking tail commissions right now! I’m crafty enough that I COULD follow your pattern and tutorial, but I can see all the hours of previous experience that led to you knowing exactly where and how deep to cut the foam, sew efficiently, etc. I am just so impressed.
Gotta admit, this is a pretty awesome project! I might actually try this myself one of these days. Though word of advice, when cutting faux fur, don't cut through it like you did in this video. Instead, do a hard press and glide on the back of the fabric. This way, you'll not risk cutting the actual fur and make a bigger mess. That and you'll only have to worry about slightly loose fur on the edges, which should be easy to manage and pull to keep it from making a mess........ Um, sorry if I seemed a bit bossy with my advice. ^~^;
I know what you mean; I do it too, where you take the tip of the scissors on the fur side of the fabric, and run it right along the actual fabric, sort of like doing a part in your hair with the pointy tip of a comb handle, or something, so even if the fur isn't carefully parted along where you're going to cut (which is what I had, unnecessarily, heh, started out by doing), you still won't be cutting through the fur, just the anchoring fabric. You'll inevitably lose a little bit of fur anyways, just from it pulling out from right beside the cut edge of the fabric; but after the first time I just went and cut funfur without thinking about what was happening to the actual fur itself in relation to my scissors, I've always been extra careful, ha ha! Don't really need my work to unexpectedly have Dumb & Dumber bangs lol
@@Neffertity *blushes in embarrassment* Oh. Well, goes to show what I know........... Then again, while I have been sewing by hand since high school, I'm technically still a learner when it comes to making stuffed animals, dolls, and clothes. Soooooo, yeah. the fact i dont even have the supplies nor money to make this but i still watched all of it cause its so satisfying to me
You know I think RUclips is stalking me because I never searched anything up about furry items but….
HOW DID RUclips KNOW IM A FURRY!?
But anyways good job 👏🏼 this wad helpful and I made it! It looks incredible!!! Thank u ☺️
@Kenzie_123 yeah your right 😰👁🗨
Thank you so much. This tutorial will really help me with my own little tail idea that went so wrong the first time and did not work out the way I hoped it would. Trying to build something along these same lines that has nice flowing wiggles, but can also articulate and bend in different ways
My mom don't let me make this😭😭
Oof😢
I hope you'll be able to soon!!
Adding a closer shot of how you made the cuts in the foam for movement would be helpful. Maybe make a short video of the slice and dice? Please and Thank you. Love all your videos!!
Definitely plan to go in depth when I made the super motion tutorial itself
Absolutely loving all the tutorials you're making and how clear and understandable they are too! Keep up the amazing work and teaching us all these awesome techniques!
I think I might have to take a shot at making a tail like this. It honestly looks fairly straight forward, from my beginner's point of view.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who brushes my carpet after cutting and shaving fur on it 😂
I'm in love with your art❤
Neff I just want to say thanks for putting out tutorials like this. I am currently doing this to make a tri colored tail for my little monster. It has been a big help as the last time I tried to do one of these I was trying to make one with a pool noodle, rope, fishing line, and key rings. Ok a puppeteer tail but still was a blooming failure. 😅 Thanks again and oh the Digitigrade foot tutorial LOVE IT, putting that one to use here as well. Stay awesome!
Great my fursona has a shorter tail and this is PERFECT, love you Nef!
If I ever decide I'm gonna commission a suit or pieces of one, I'm 1000% choosing you as the artist!!
I reccomend getting a self cleaning slicker brush! I got mine off of amazon and i can use the excess fur that comes off the brush as stuffing!
