    LYRICS:
I retired my red lipstick cause you said you didn't like it
I didn't wear my high heel shoes
Cause I couldn't be taller than you
I didn't want to lose my friends but now it's hard to even find em
It's what you wanted, ain't it
    It's what you wanted
    I thought I'd miss you
    When it ended
    I thought it'd hurt me
    But it didn't
    I thought I'd miss you
    I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more
    I miss my own beat
    To my own snare drum
    I miss me more
    I miss my own sheets
In the bed I made up
    I forgot I had dreams
    I forgot I had wings
    Forgot who I was before
    I ever kissed you
Yeah I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more
    I miss me more
I put on my old records that I hid in the back of the closet
And I turned them up to ten
And then I played them all again
I found my independence can't believe I ever lost it
It's what you wanted, ain't it
    It's what you wanted
    I thought I'd miss you
    When it ended
    I thought it'd hurt me
    But it didn't
    I thought I'd miss you
Yeah I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more
    I miss my own beat
    To my own snare drum
    I miss me more
    I miss my own sheets
In the bed I made up
    I forgot I had dreams
    I forgot I had wings
    Forgot who I was before
    I ever kissed you
Yeah I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more
    I miss me more
    I thought I'd miss you
    I thought it'd hurt me
And I'd want to kiss you
    I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more
    I miss my own beat
    To my own snare drum
    I miss me more
    I miss my own sheets
In the bed I made up
    I forgot I had dreams
    I forgot I had wings
    Forgot who I was before
    I ever kissed you
And I thought I'd miss you
    But I miss me more

Girl, you nailed this song for all of us that are or were co-dependents held captive by the mind- ing of the narcissist. So empowering and so true and so about no more tolerance for abuse of any kind because you only get one life, this one, and it is so short. You can never complain about being in a toxic relationship with a narcissist if you choose to stay- you stay a victim. Listen to this song and get the help to get out and get on with your life and learn to heal your co-dependence and recognize a narcissist so it never happens again. Thank you Kelsea!

This song has been one of the only things getting me through the aftermath of an extremely toxic mental/emotionally abusive relationship. Physical wounds would have hurt less. After a year and a half I’m starting to feel like myself again and realize my self worth. Never thought in a million years I’d be without the man I loved more then anything including myself. Never again will I ever let anyone make me lose who I am.

The physical scars heal much faster & cleaner the the invisible ones…I’m 46 now & have been working on them for over 10 years. It started in my childhood & progressed into adulthood…after one divorce, & a couple of abusive relationships, I married into another one. Can’t seem to let it go either…I just got too tired & gave up.

Went through counseling at a DV center…after 2 yrs, my counselor asked me to leave her care. I’ve got a new therapist whom I feel comfortable with & we’re beginning to delve into some of the past…the current marriage is no longer physical, but we’re emotionally & verbal. I’ve fought & I’ve seen the uglier side of ppl…& my health is bad. I’ve learned to emotionally & verbally box back & they’re periods of calm, & even happier ones. Mostly if I take my antidepressants meds, then I have no feelings other than complacency which makes everyone else happy. But I’ve learned trust no one & if you have no secrets then no one can use them against you. This is safer than the world out there ever has been. But I AM learning. My counselor has reassured me that I’m in recovery & will be fine.💕

Thats where I'm at right now. I didn't even realize I was in an abusive relationship with a narcissist. But everyone I know keeps telling me "I'm glad you got rid of that narcissistic abusive jerk" which is saying a lot since all the people i know can never agree with each other. It was never physical, as you said with your relationship, that would have been less painful. I got out 2 days ago. And it feels so odd to be able to go and do the things I want without permission, to be able to actually do what I want, I cried. I haven't even bought clothes that I like for myself in 3 years, just stuff I knew he liked. I bought an outfit I actually loved for the first time in so long. I lost myself to him, but I'm never going to let anyone do that to me again.

This song came out the year after I left my 8 year abusive marriage to a narcissist. The first time I heard it I cried. Every time I feel weak from the trama and PTSD it left me with I feel myself being built back up. It gives me strength. I'm remarried to the best person in the world for me, but that PTSD comes out of nowhere sometimes, this song is the song that make me feel strong. I'm so glad it exists. I hope it can be the strength for people who are living through similar experiences.

When you have been in a toxic relationship the idea of who you are is distorted. You do everything to please the other person that you forget who you are. I was in a manipulative relationship for three years and when I finally got out of it, it wasn't even the end of it. Still got harassed, stalked, and was still confused because even though that relationship didn't completely strip me of who I was I still was lost. This song is empowering,
After all of it I struggled to find myself but with therapy and tons of reassurance from the people who actually love me I am in a much better place.
To everyone who has been or is in an abusive, manipulative, toxic, or bad relationship: Please don't loose faith in yourself. It can get better. You are stronger than you think.

I started with an abusive and sheltered childhood where I wasn't allowed to have opinions, express my feelings, and every day was a battle with abuse. I went straight into the arms of a user who played with my emotions and tried to tell me what I can and can not do, going as far as locking me in an apartment. “I forgot I had dreams...” damn I felt that. I was so involved with this guy who would barely take the time to text me, he made me feel so insecure, and it took me years to ever feel confident in myself and for him to bring back my insecurity of my self-image, I realized that I was putting myself back. I forgot who I was, I forgot about my dreams and goals in my life, all for some jerk who can’t even pull himself together. God sent me all the right signs for me to realize he’s not the one, and I’m so grateful I’ve let that one go. I missed my own vibe, and how I was able to rely on myself for whatever life throws at me. God bless everyone who’s survived through any toxic relationship. You are strong and you are so worth it. @@hannabobo4187 Depends. If she's reaching out to you now, ask her for a reason. Ask her why she ghosted you because you deserve an explanation when crap like that happens. Sometimes people do that, and sometimes they do have a good reason. Or I guess at least if they show they're improving and care about not doing it again it's ok to forgive even if the reason was bad. But in the end it's really up to your judgement, and if you think your life is better with them in it.

MotoAtheist Well let's face it, the vag is and always will be amazing. Lol ;) It's just that sometimes it takes awhile for a woman to realize that she first has to find the beat of her own drum and find her own self. That's when she realizes that she is fine alone. When that true embracing of oneself has occurred it's then that the woman realizes that only a man who is aware of her true beauty and the depth of her nature is worthy of her. Everything shifts and she finally can have a healthy relationship but only if that's what she chooses.
Once she has a shift and crosses this threshold of self love and independence it's only then that she can recognize a great man. And if she doesn't find him it's ok because she realizes who she is and falls in love with self first. It's an amazing freedom for both men and women to realize that we are all fine by ourselves and we don't need anyone else to define us. We have to get there before we can have a healthy relationship. Signed, Super Vag.

@@pattinelson1551 I have a friend who, after her divorce, started dating again and she would get too involved straight away and then get dissapointed. I tried to convey, without being direct, that maybe she just needs to find herself for awhile and learn to be content without a partner. I don't know if my advice took or it just sort of happened, but she finally chilled out a bit and is trying to get on her own life together first now. I totally agree that people need to be satisfied on their own first before seeking a partner. Too many people become super entwined in their relationships and can't do anything without their partners, they just get completely dependent upon each other. Some see that and think how great their love is, but I see it and think it's rather pathetic that neither person has any identity of their own anymore.

I just heard this song today and it came at the exact time I needed to hear this. I was healing from a narcissistic relationship and had been doing well. Until he came back and pursued me relentlessly for months. Begging for me to give him the 1 millionth chance to change. I was good. I was happy. Then I said Ok we can work it out (biggest mistake). Now I am back at square one. This song reminded me of how it felt when I was healing. And I am going to be that way again.

    Hi Kelsea,
70 this coming Wednesday and I am still experiencing life to its fullest. I have never heard of you...didn’t even know you are Country...my favorite music. I love your sound BUT THAT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO YOUR HEART.
That’s how I learned about you. Anybody can sing, maybe not as well, but very few can make a little boy cry from happiness by giving him a Guitar with his name on the back in Braille... now that is first class. And now you have this old guy about to buy all your cd’s (yes we old guys still buy cd’s). It is an honor to say thank you for making my day by you making his day with your kindness.
Can you IMAGINE what this world would be like if everybody sang kindness to others by their deeds???
    God Bless
You are a true success. The young boy saw who you are without having sight.

I remember that I used to be in a toxic relationship with the first man i ever dated. He made me feel worthless. But when i heard this song, i completely fell apart even though i had left him years before hearing this song. This song is a wonderful message. You are awesome, Kelsea!!!!!

I dreamed of leaving my narc, abusive, drug addict, atheist, husband,..back when this song first came out. Well now,..I am finally doing it!!! So I just remembered how this song gave me hope, and dreams, to do it, and I came back to listen to it. I was crying back then, watching the video. Now I am smiling, with all my heart. TY...💔🥰❤

I've never heard this song before. I'm kind of out of the loop these days. I am a singrr/songwriter and I find this song amazing. It's so cool to find a song that you know is a hit the very first time you hear it. Great lyrics, great melody, great job, Kelsea!

When right then and filed for a divorce. Best thing I ever done. I found my wings , got back my independence , and I'm back to me. !!! Thank you Kelsea Ballerini

Yes ma'am! I understand this on a very deep level, ex husband gas lighted me until I drove myself to suicide attempts and in and out of mental wards. Yes I have mental illness but guess what, leaving him may have cost me EVERYTHING but the clothes on my back and my dog, the one thing it hadn't done is seen me back in a hospital. I can hold my own and I am learning who I am again.

Even if you're not in a toxic relationship, it's still so easy to lose yourself! Your hobbies become their hobbies and you may even stop have self days! Get out, do the stuff you love even if you're partner doesn't join! Don't lose yourself in a relationship!!

I was in an abusive relationship for 2years. The 1st verse really hits me because I was not allowed to wear make up, cut/ tie/ dye my hair, no skirts, dresses, only a T-shirt that he chose with sweat pants, with only one pair of shoes. I know I was not happy but at the time it was more important to make him happy than myself. This March, I had to move away for work and the moment I landed at the airport I felt really free. I kept the relationship with him even long distance but as the days went on he became very aggressive and controlling even through the phone. I was physically away but my emotions revolved around him. I continued the relationship until last week when I finally realized that it is such a waste of time to be with someone who is not near me to support, care and treat me right. The last goodbye was tough. I cried so much but after I blocked him I felt so much better. All my friends and family are happy for me too. Now its been a week since I am single but I am much stronger as a person. I wish to find someone new but for now I want to appreciate the time with my friends

I was in a relationship for two and a half years with a man who lied and broke my heart repeatedly. He got more chances than he deserved and I finally worked up the strength to walk away. I missed me more than I knew. My favorite part is that this ex was a good three inches shorter than me when I wore heels, so the first verse had me dying.
To those of you who also worked up your courage to walk away, I’m so proud of you. Keep putting yourself first. ❤️

Based on the song name I thought this was going to be about “to my ex, I’m so amazing, you’re SO going to miss me more than I’ll miss you.” And then, bam! this song is so awesome and empowering, I love how it’s not so much about the ex, but rediscovering yourself after a hard break up. Love it, love it, love it!
