You are listening to a true rock masterpiece. The Moody Blues are one of the most versatile groups ever. Between them they could play 35 different instruments.

All these senior band members have been together since 1964...The lead singer performing Justin Hayward joined the band in 1966.. This Song was released in 1967..they were part of the British invasion to the US in the 60's..The flutist and the drummer have passed away in the last couple years. Justin Hayward is now 77 years old and still performing. I am a bit older and still have all their songs on 45 RPM. One of my favorite groups.

Band member Justin Hayward (lead singer) wrote and composed the song at age 19 while touring in Belgium and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward.

The Flute is one of the few non reed instruments that you blow into without putting your lips around the Mouthpiece. One of the hardest wind instruments to master. I played the flute 65 years ago but gave it up for the clarinet.

I grew up with this song. Love this song. The Moody Blues was an underrated band back in the day. Glad to see young folks that appreciate good music, and I hope your generation will keep it alive. By the way, you mentioned the flute solo, another good song with some good flute playing is The Marshall Tucker Band "Heard It In A Love Song"

What a lot of people that refused to listen to Rock and Roll back in the day didn't realize was that it wasn't just one kind of music, it was a freedom that artist had to do classical to hard rock. This is just as much Rock and Roll as Led Zepplin, or Black Sabbath. Rock and Roll included all expressions of the soul.

This is one of my fav songs ever! I heard this when I was growing up in the 70's and I used to sing along but I had no idea what the song was about. I thought it was Knights in white satin and I pictured a bunch of old English Knights running around in white satin! LOL... this song touched my heart as a young girl and today it still does each time I hear it. Thanks for a great reaction video. Be sure and watch the original video of this song.. it's phenomenal.

"Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song. Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.

This is the poem that goes with Nights in White Satin at the end of the song. It's only on the album Days of Future Passed. I don't know why he didn't recite it at this concert.
    Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
    Another day's useless energy spent
    Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
    And which is an illusion?

I never thought I would need this brain cell again, but here goes; a flute is a wind instrument played by blowing air across a hole. I used to play. It's very akin to when you blow air across the top of a beer bottle to make a deeper, hollow whistle. Same thing, different shape beyond the opening makes a different sound. Hauntingly beautiful. I remember listening to this song growing up as a child in the 70's and it hit me like it still does today. Classic 🎶🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
