Gary Booker passed just last year. His voice got better with age. That’s rare. The choir back up harmony is incredible. The orchestra back up was very special here. That Hammond organ is priceless. We had one in our living room. My Mom and uncle played. The song was released in 1967. Timeless! RIP Gary! Thanks for the memories gentlemen.
Nothing can compare to the B3 with Wurlitzer tone cabinet. Our organist in my HS rock band (mid-late '60's) had one and carting that thing around had us wore out before we even took stage. But we were making big money, sometimes 7 of us would split 100 bucks! Go to the trailer behind the DQ and get 2 burgers (cheese .10 for both, extra) load of fries, large shake for $2 afterwards. DQ didn't serve food back then in our 'burg. Gas was 19.9 to 28.9. Ahhh yeah, great times long gone.
you made the connection with "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. Good ears! That was the inspiration for the vocal melody and chords for this song in 1966. Then the organ player threw the intro on top which was a shout-out to J.S. Bach's "Air on a G String", so you have baroque, classical, and R&B all rolled into one with trippy poetic lyrics. This was the #1 song of 1967 and still to this day enchants.
This observation impressed me to no end. Well played, gentlemen. It took me 40 years to figure out the connection between WSOP, Bach's Air, and "When a Man Loves a Woman." This is all referenced in the movie "The Commitments" in two church scenes, but the young musicians keep confusing Percy Sledge with Marvin Gaye! ruclips.net/video/SOav4guQs7Y/видео.html ruclips.net/video/nCWViJT5Ug8/видео.html
This gives me hope that the music will never die. It's great to see CF's realization and transformation throughout the entirety of this, and many other, songs. How fun would is it to be hearing something so utterly amazing for the first time?

Thank you Gary Brooker and Keith Reid for writing a simply unique piece of music. This song could be played in 100 years and it will still be timeless and totally loved and appreciated. It was released in May 1967 and within 3 weeks was number 1 and stayed there for 6 weeks. RIP Gary Brooker, you've left this world and yet your magical voice will live on forever.
I'm proud of you young men for opening your minds, hearts & appreciation for ALL genre's of music...Your reaction to this song melted my heart... Thank you & God Bless....
This song is timeless. Sadly Gary passed last year, but what an awesome contribution to the music world. He will always be remembered. You should check out the original video and see how young he was! Great reaction guys!
I'm 70. I remember as a teenager listening to this song. The melody was based on music written 400 years ago by Johannes Sebastián Bach, called Aire on the G string.
This song came out in 1967 when I was 13 years old. I'm just as much in awe of it as the first time I ever heard it. I have to hand it to you guys, this was, hands down, the best reaction to a rock song I have ever watched. As a matter of fact, it was so good I'm going to watch this again........
I am 71 years old. I remember when Procol Harum released this song in 1967 on the Procol Harum album! It was one, and will always be, one of my favorite songs of all time. Gary Brooker had so much soul. God Rest His Soul! RIP Gary!
This is an example of the phrase "The test of time". Not only has this song become a classic but Gary Booker nailed every note, singing it here again all of those years later. I truly enjoy watching all of you as you discover "new" artist for the first time.
As I sit here watching these young men watching this legend singing this beautiful song I grew up listening to, I am just blown away at how much they really like this song!! I realized I don't know as much as I think I do. I am ashamed at my self for being shallow. I want to say to these young men you picked a great song to love.
This confirms what I always thought: if you like music, even if you favour one particular style, you will appreciate things which are outside of your comfort zome too.
Oh my goodness, I'm bawling like a baby. I grew up with a dad who loved that song. He died in 2016 and I can't hear any version without crying still. I'm so so happy that you all found it to be as beautful as we all did when it was popular. I'm greatly enjoying watching you newfound rockers enjoying our music from our younger years. Keep em coming please!!!
I'm 73 and we didn't need tv or videos or phones strapped to our pocket, we had a radio that played 24/7 and entertained with quality entertainers. But this older lady loves all genre of music and I listen to it every single day. Sometimes I just have to get up and dance. So happy you are exploring my world as I explore yours.
I personally think this is his best rendition of the song. He not only still had his voice then, but it had a character in it that a younger voice doesn't. Rip, Gary Brooker.
Ok…..old white grandma here…. May I say that I absolutely adore these young men…. Your my favorite Utube channel. Thank you, gentlemen for letting the song play most of the way before commenting! That decision let the song's power come through. Gary Brooker's voice had a twinge of Ray Charles voice. Lots of heartfelt soul! I agree with you that this entire piece would make a great homage to a Guardian of the Galaxy scene.
My mom recently gave me me all of my deceased dads old records. He had their original record album in there with this song on it. Makes me tear up when I hear that beautiful voice. Btw Percy Sledge sang “When A Man Loves A Woman”. That record was also in the collection. My dad taught me to slow dance to that song by standing on his feet and dancing. RIP Dad❤

🇨🇦 Time to learn boys, and appreciate ! Procol Harum was a British Rock band, (consisting of two guitarists, a Drummer, an organist and Garys piano) led by Gary Booker, who wrote this song in 1967 ! This Danish version from 2006 was at the invitation of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for one of their summer concerts ! The Orchestra has over 100 musicians and includes a Choir of 70 members ! Gary died last year R.I.P.
First heard this on holiday, every time I hear it I fly back in time and can accurately identify exactly where I was sat on the sea wall with friends ❤️
I remember when this came out in 1967. It was awesome combining it with Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sleepers, Wake!" and "Air on the G String." No boys not that knda g-string, giggle! They later did this stunning version at Ledreborg Castle in Denmark. They are an English rock band and this live performance continues to stun audiences to this day. So soothing and harmonious but Gary Brooker's vocals which are even better than in the original are simply beyond measure. Unfortueatly he passed in February of '22. Bring it back boys...bring it all back. I love you guys loving this. Show's you know good music when you hear it. Keep on keepin' on boys!
So glad you listened to this and appreciated it! It was a staple on our playlists in the 60s & 70s…always loved this song! Keep expanding your horizons and you’ll never regret it! ❤️

you made the connection with "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge.
Percy Sledge is from my hometown
Peter Frampton said this was his favorite Ballad. His reason? It's just perfect."
One song I never tired of- Gary Booker was a gift to all of us. R.I.P. GARY
Thanks to you guys , some young people are being introduced to some awesome music…. In my opinion the best music ever written
This gives me hope that the music will never die. It's great to see CF's realization and transformation throughout the entirety of this, and many other, songs. How fun would is it to be hearing something so utterly amazing for the first time?
@@MidwesternCornbilly Exactly
I've actually seen some artists say in interviews that they like and appreciate reaction channels. Its giving their music a new life. Its amazing
I heard this son when I was 16 years old and I am 72 now and this is one of the best songs I have ever heard, pure genius. A different generation.
You don't look 72 in that picture
This was the slow dance song when I was in jr high in the 60’s. Dang life goes so fast. Still gives me chills. Thank you for listening to “our music”
Rest in peace Keith Reid….died in March at 76 years old. Same age as Gary Brooker.
Gary is phenomenal 👏 .Bach is immortal 🙏
I'm proud of you young men for opening your minds, hearts & appreciation for ALL genre's of music...Your reaction to this song melted my heart... Thank you & God Bless....
I agree. These young men are pretty cool. Love to see their reactions ☺️
That "old man" up there singing in his SIXTIES, was 19 in 1967 when he wrote and first sang this iconic classic. SHOW RESPECT.
I like this better than the original!
It's beautiful
This song is timeless. Sadly Gary passed last year, but what an awesome contribution to the music world. He will always be remembered. You should check out the original video and see how young he was!
Great reaction guys!
So true I just love Procol harum my all time favourites.
My exhusband and I used to dance to this song when we were married. He has since passed. thank you for doing this reaction.
I can’t imagine a better song to dance to. Pretty powerful and very moving.
I'm 70. I remember as a teenager listening to this song. The melody was based on music written 400 years ago by Johannes Sebastián Bach, called Aire on the G string.
There is a happiness in the soul when you witness a new generation feeling what you felt in your youth.
Rock on fam!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
It was in The Big Chill
Classic movie, classic song. So glad you guys found this!
Great song, great movie!
Correct!
Pirate radio too
Be sure and keep a notebook handy, you’ll probably find a LOT of great music from this era in The Big Chill.
BUG CHILL!!! 🎊 There is not a single musical note in This Movie you will not appreciate …
RIP Gary!
69 here, same for me!
Gary Brooker died a few days ago. An unbelievable voice hopefully singing in heaven. RIP!
💔
😢
You young men are adorable. Love love love your reactions!!! This is a classic song. Warms my heart that you can all experience it's beauty!!
Music has no boundaries. Love seeing you guys appreciating this music!
Goofies. He's British. This is from the '60's. He died last year. It's classic.
My Daughters name is Julie, she is 22 an Art Teacher… I’m 67 in a few Weeks. I listen to her noise and Jude listens to my Music
Thank you Young Men… you appreciation is appreciated
I’m bawling too! My dad also passed in 2016, and when this song started playing at his memorial I was bawling then. I’m sorry for your loss.
Keep dancing 🥂 👍
Go back and listen to it from 50 years ago Gary’s voice just as great .. beautiful song ! RIP Gary
I personally think this is his best rendition of the song. He not only still had his voice then, but it had a character in it that a younger voice doesn't. Rip, Gary Brooker.
@@kevino4846 Agreed. His voice had peaked for this version.
Ok…..old white grandma here…. May I say that I absolutely adore these young men…. Your my favorite Utube channel. Especially love when you react to the old school music that I listened to at your age. Your comments and facial expressions are just beautiful as well as your overall true appreciation for really really “ good” music. Well Done Gentlemen. I’m thinking your subscribership is going to go thru the roof. Thank you❤
Seconded by Abuela!!! (Mexican grandma) 😍🥰
?? what were yu watching lady? these primates could not re;late one iota to this wonderful song.
Grannie #3!!❤❤❤
@Calloutthebots No one is obsessing about race. I was trying to show that all races can be cool. So how about you calm down and stop obsessing over race.
Nonna here. Born in the 60's.
This is the song that made me fall in love with old music. May God rest the soul of Gary Brooker.
This live version of A Whiter Shade of Pale gave me goosebumps! As beautiful as the original.
Me too I just started getting choked up by this version absolutely amazing
When I hear any song from the sixties I feel so proud of my generation, there was a masterpiece every week sometimes more.
This one melts like butter. This one and Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” touch the soul.
Into the Mystic is one I want to be played in my memory
Me too kathy😊
Not only is his voice out of this world. He is very attractive at his age. What a song it’s just hauntingly beautiful.
Love this song!! He sounds fantastic, just like back in the day!!
Guys, not so much talking..
Yes I agree! Fellas, I just love watching your reactions!
Pro-cul Har-um amazing band!!
I'm almost 70 yrs old and this voice is the same as when I was 18. Brilliant!!
RIP Dad❤
Beautiful memories ❤
This song was played in the movie The Big Chill. This song always gave me the chills. Such a sorrowful yet beautiful song.
That movie has a great soundtrack.
Yes that whole soundtrack is awesome!
That's my ultimate favorite movie in the world, I can sit and go along with it word for word, which is why I usually watch it alone😄😄...I lost track of how many times I've seen it 😄 and the soundtrack was awesome as well 😁👍
@@can_you_hear_me5579 Lol! Me too. Drives my husband nuts when I say the lines with the actors.
I still got the chills whenever I listen to this song. Thank you guys for upload and reaction 😊
It's in the movie The Big Chill. One of the most beautiful songs ever made ❤
Love to see young people enjoying old classics. Best music!
Simply blown away by his vocals after so many years!
I've been loving this song for 50 years. This is the best version! Amazing.
This song is timeless. Thanks for playing it and reacting to it.
The most beautiful song I've ever heard
His voice gives me chills. Loved back then and now❤❤
I'm a teenager in Philippines and I Always in tears while listening to this song , maybe It was great feeling to listen to this kind of song with a pure talent such a great voice .. Godbless to all people who RESPECT AND LOVE ALL GREAT OLD SONGS
It's great to see younger generations having such an appreciation for the classy classics, like this! Love your energy!
Gary Brooker will always be remembered and admired. His voice never dies and with this great recording many generations will be enjoying him and this performance in future. RIP Gary Brooker you are missed
The reaction of these young men to a 67 year old classic does my heart good. Beautiful performance.
One of my all time favorite songs...We lost Gary Booker, the vocalist and pianist 2/22/22 at age 76. I feel so blessed to have know their music. Deep dive these lyrics guys...its a classic!
I didn't know he passed. 😔
He left a fantastic legacy.
Oh that makes me sad to hear of his passing
Everytime he starts singing this song I shed more than a few tears. He sure can sing.
I was fortunate enough to see Procol Harum with Jethro Tull and Elton John in the 90’s (when you guys were being born ) - it was a beautiful night spent with three great, classic, timeless artists! Good time and a great memory! It was a delight to watch all of you experience this song 😊✌🏼❤
Classic. Many people have covered this song, Willie Nelson does it justice, but this is perfection.
Annie Lennox does it well, too.
I remember this song when I was real young. Still beautiful as ever!!
Yes me too, I was 16. Great times and great 60's music.
Not seen this video.
Am amazed ,he still has a great voice.
Growing up with music such as this was magical. It heartens me to see younger generations listening and being as affected by the amazing sounds we listened to. I'm 73 now, and I still rock on and rock hard
It's so cool to see our grandkids enjoying the music we grew up singing, dancing and partying too.
I love you guys - you get it. You feel it. So divine and beautiful.
I'm a 69 year old woman in Illinois and I'm transported back to when this song first hit the radio stations. Still phenomenal!
I have goose bumps and I’m crying remembering dancing to this in my youth and the local dance hall. OMG love it
Great song and I’ve never heard it LIVE like this. I’m 66 in Kansas. Thanks guys, and I’m glad you fully appreciated it. You know great music when you hear it.
Gentlemen, you have just elevated your musical pallet as well as the respect we have for you because of the reactions you gave! You have readily identified one of the greatest songs ever as one of the greatest songs ever... and you will love their other songs as well. Oh, yeah, you are also damned funny. Great comments.
He hasn't lost anything in his voice through the years. I love it.
You know a song is good when you have the same emotion over and over when hearing it for almost 50 years. They don't make em' like this anymore folks.
Just so beautiful !!! His voice just improved over the decades. RIP Gary Brooker !!!
It's great seeing young people like you guys appreciate this. Enjoying your reaction... This is real music...
I was 15 years old when this song came out in 1967. Makes my heart so happy that you enjoyed and appreciated a song from so long ago.
I as well was 15..music was great then as it is now.
For all of this to come together it takes skill from the conductor and the band. Very well done! Absolutely amazing...
So glad you listened to this and appreciated it! It was a staple on our playlists in the 60s & 70s…always loved this song! Keep expanding your horizons and you’ll never regret it! ❤️
It's great to see young people appreciate this absolute classic which was releaed in 1967. Such a brilliant reaction. Thank you guys. Best wishes from the UK.
I love watching how you guys' appreciation and understanding of music has matured. I mean that as a compliment. We can all listen to music but to appreciate the depth of the words and music isn't always easy. You guys are nailing it!
Your faces tell it all ,when he started singing .
RIP Gary Booker ❤ You gave us the most beautiful song in the history of music. Your talent will be deeply missed.
