After five long years, Matt's dream car storage facility in LA is almost complete! In this video, we take a look at some of the finishing touches that make Westside Collector Car Storage very special. There's the ultra-low driveway approach, the eighteen quad stackers with fire suppression and battery tenders built in, there's the fire and quake resistance, and the studio and lounge. Take a tour with us!

You know you're a car guy when you spend 10 times longer showcasing the driveway than the blue marble counter-tops..
haha those are off the rack!
So true ! 😂
Yeah that drive way is a wet dream!
I bet so many car guys know the feeling of trying to drive across a steep ass driveway. I appreciate details like this.
TheSmokingTire. I hope you populate with client cars in record time, would be well deserved. A little superstitious so this well wish is accompanied by " knock knock" on wood desk.
Matt's excitement and enthusiasm for this project is infectious and inspiring.
Lol kinda funny how he’s more into the engineering behind this place than the actual business!!
More infectious than the Rona
Yeah he's awesome. Totally geekin' out over the angle of the driveway and so many people get it!! Place looks amazing!
He has no choice, he is into it a lot of money already. Let it open and see if the business goes well than see how he really is.
mike88g1 one thing I can already see is that they’re gonna have to do a lot of car shuffling. They should have gotten those stackers that rotate the cars in a circle so you don’t have to take any out to get to the one you want
"I had them paint it red because it looks bad ass" Never change, Matt
It was most likely fire code to paint it red.
@@philcyr70 no it was my choice - it was delivered mostly black, with just a couple little red bits.

no
Nope, LA's lifestyle is big-ass swanky cars, hollywood life, he will be running out of space in no time. There's no business model which is 100% full proof unless you own giant properties like me and give them to medical hospitals to run :)
I feel like a nerd for how aggressively I agreed with you that those pipes are badass
Glad to hear you have locks on the lifts. My M3 got crushed in a parking garage in Park Slope in Brooklyn. The garage tried to claim I drove the car in with damage, even though they dropped the lift onto the roof in front of me! It took weeks to get fixed, and that was a monthly rental. Nightmare.
As a fellow M3 owner (E46 over here), I hurt for you. Fluck those guys.
What garage was this? I keep my M Coupe at a garage in Williamsburg, and I'm constantly nervous about something happening. It is quite literally the cheapest rate I could find (I can't afford $350+ /month for parking) but also, interestingly enough, an ultramodern garage with lifts similar to what Matt has above - that has me constantly wondering: what's the catch???
As someone in a wheelchair, I'm very grateful they have codes like these. I cant explain how big of a pain it is to deal with busted ass ,"grandfathered in" sidewalks. Seems silly, but it does really mean a lot. Also the angle for getting the cars in without scraping is awesome. Wish that was also a code all cities had to follow. But nope. Everyone just drives SUVs and trucks instead.
But they're forcing property owners to do it themselves when most of their own sidewalks are not to code. What's the point of even using the same sidewalk if the wheelchair turns into the street 70% of the time? Just hypocritical regulations.
@@MrCarGuy Because it is too expensive to do all at once wholesale. So as new buildings are put in and streets/sidewalks are redone, they fix them as they can. Eventually everything will hopefully be done, but by then I'm sure there will be new codes. =/
Thanks for speaking out, I was pretty disappointed at the way Matt so dismissively talked about accessibility requirements.
Tim Mayville except “they” does not refer to the city. “They” are actually the business owners trying to generate more tax money for the city that is trying to straight bend them over and fuck them twice.
@@RecBuddha That's the thing. The sidewalks will never be done this way. The city won't pay for it while they wait on property modifications to be done. So you're stuck with a rally course for the handicapped.
I'm so happy for you Matt. You've been a figure in the car community my whole life and it's just awesome to see you keep doing more and more.
As a guy who is about to graduate with a degree in construction science this is so insanely well thought out
What kind of career prospects do you have with that degree. I'm an apprentice high rise plumber and I'm curious about some courses in construction.
much easier, don’t drive super low cars ;)

surfinburdlax generally we start in estimating positions or project engineer positions rise up most going on to project manger/general contractor positions. And you can get into almost any field you want. Starts at about 60k where I’m at and you could get to double that later on in your career

Wow. This place came out amazing. Congrats Matt.
Listening to all the code regulations throughout this series was insane. I'm amazed you were able to tackle all of them.
No sh#t, you have to REALLY want to be in CA, I lived there at one time, never again. Visit sure, live? No thank you.
It's easy when you budget another 2x your initial expected costs. 💰💰
Another reason not to live in Cali, if you needed another one.
Owen Major I mean it sounds like they purposely make it difficult but people still put up with it... Cali is too high in demand
@@wulfstein1 maybe, but they attack the businesses who bring in revenue. Not the residents. Seems more like just a way to keep bureaucrats pockets lined
Outstanding forethought and imagination applied. Truly cutting edge. I’ll have to visit.
So happy for you, Matt! I LOVE how proud you are of the entry driveway! I'd be the same way. Chicago needs a facility like this!
Wow Matt! I have been watching you since that video you showed a clip of when you were taking your C5 out of the garage over your awesome ramps lol. Man, you should be proud of what you’ve accomplished. I am very happy for you brother 👍
Love seeing the green infrastructure and the planters. Helps mitigate storm water overflow.
Bro you are in UNREAL shape. Congrats on the build, a labour of love 👏👏👏
Stellar work Matt! Can’t wait to see it completed.
Congratulations to a real LA Car OG, the glow up from RUclips is real!
I've been watching you for a long time, garage 419 dayz. And it's nice to see you have a sense of humor about the codes and construction. Most RUclipsrs would make some click bait thumbnail and complain like a c*my about laws. You sir are the real deal 👌
This man is living the dream! I just love how he knows what's best for the customers cars. If I was on that level I would definitely store my cars there
Great to see you genuinely excited. Your dream is nearing it's first paying client!
Every room he walks in to:
“This is done, except for...”
Some things take a long time to get ready, others take just a few days. For how long this project took to build, the things that are missing are just peanuts.
Looking Awesome Congratulations Dude
It’s awesome to see how exited you are for this project, you’ve come a long way over the years and I’m really happy for you- you deserve it!
This is absolutely the most beautiful thing ever, truly shows your dedication/appreciation and love for vehicles. Damn good job!!
We need to see a demo of the lift! I’m not sure how this all works!
Pull the bottom car out and the next one up can lower to the ground. All of the platforms stack onto one another or into the ground probably.
Matt - Dang guy at the top of the lift always wants his car....
Monte Stu yeah all have to go😂
"Come adjust your ISO, my friends." Dude, now you're speaking my language.
Can't wait to see the results and what sort of cars the place gets filled with.
This is pretty exciting to watch. I am stoked for you Matt! Place is awesome!
Happy for you that it's on the final stretch, also that conduit routing is incredibly satisfying
Lookin good, bro!
That definitely isn't a good look for ceiling in reception area... Somebody delivers you a $1.5 mil Porsche 918 and walk into the first room to see a, clearly, unfinished area.
yeah, I was gonna drop off my 2005 Hyundai Tiburon here, but after watching this video and seeing the reception, I've had a change of heart, gonna take it to someone in Beverly Hills. much classier.
You are right. My 2012 4Runner deserves something better.
Disagree, exposed ceilings showing all the duct work are very stylish. Also keep in mind, these are bigtime car guys bringing their shit here. Typically those kind of dudes like seeing the mechanical or otherwise infrastructural backbone of things. Makes the room feel bigger too, drop tiles are suffocating.
I'm guessing there won't be too many customers hanging out and mingling in the reception area and cigar lounge. I basically see a guy having his collector car dropped off here and then maybe coming back once a year or so to take it out.
@@thomas_2285 Those areas are for detail customers. You gotta go somewhere while the detailing is being done. By providing a lounge area, it just increases the attractiveness of the business.
I live a few minutes from here. Stoked to see this place come together! Congrats man! It looks great
Wishing you all the best because you deserve it, creating this fantastic dream automobile storage facility. Stay safe and healthy to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Why leave the holes in the ceiling? Just looks bad imo
I agree. Maybe he's going for an industrial appearance, but it really just looks totally unfinished.
Agreed
Lol, you build a collector's garage in the heart of LA then you peen! I know it's easy to nitpick when you don't have a couple mil to be creative and business minded with. Not tryin' to be a dick here, but come the fuck on. Matt's doing something special here. Hit him up and offer your services to change the holes if it's really such a massive bummer to you.
@@ninthcloud6331 bro you got so sensitive over someones opinion. chill out

Curious what you’re doing for venting/smoke eaters for the cigar lounge
Lol
A fellow Ac Guy I see! I was thinking the same thing.
I was thinking about the carpet mentioned for the cigar lounge. Won’t that trap cigar smell?
I was genuinely waiting for the next episode of this. Glad to see things are moving!!
Very nice work. Thanks for making the update videos!

Great video Matt & team! It's fun to follow along.
Congratulations Matt. Ive been following the build progress and videos and gotta say that WCCS has come out beautifully. Looking forward to seeing the final video and videos of cars if your able to show them and seeing the facility operating and functioning. 👍👍👍👍👍

I saw you talking about this on the Joe Rogan podcast, loved the comment "sunshine is free and weed is legal" 😂
I'd imagine an afternoon getting toasted with Matt and Rogan would be one helluva day.
they're also bleeding money out the ass (despite the taxes being outrageous), the homeless problem is out of control, and they're releasing prisoners because of COVID while simultaneously arresting people for breaking quarantine even though they're still maintaining social distancing

Looks awesome, but the no tiles in the lounge area? Seems pretty awful looking. I get the idea but it looks funny.
Matt nerding out about all of the engineering innovations during this project is the best part about his project....what a great guy!
So excited for you and this projects completion!
I’m sure he’s showing all the code stuff because of how much extra it’s cost to change things.
Something tells me that having a 3000 gal per minute fire supression system in a building with a cigar lounge and potentially millions of dollars worth of cars could possibly be a nightmare waiting to happen.
The wall in between the lounge and the warehouse is 2-hours fire rated, and the sprinklers are independent. A fire on one side would have to be very, very bad to affect the other side. The city's concern is coming from the warehouse side, not the lounge side.
TheSmokingTire warehouse.. that’s kind of an understatement for what you have how about high end vehicle terminal, or exotic car longe lol idk
If there's a fire under one sprinkler only that sprinkler will go off, it doesn't trigger the rest to activate or anything, so at least it extinguishes whatever is right there even if it is worth a lot.
Best of luck with the facility!!! It looks awesome. Well done presenting it as well.
This is so cool! I've watched every episode and can't wait to see it when its complete
2 days? 2 DAYS? I've been waiting for this update for 3 months! Oh well i guess 2 more days can't hurt.
Smart location targeting those ballers! They can now buy extra cars and have somewhere to store them.
Really enjoying your vids on the construction process and glad you're nearly as enthusiastic about it as your cars :D. If only I had access to delve into the financials behind this project hahaha
Wow! Breath-taking facility! I can imagine how it will look filled up with amazing cars😍😍😍. Brilliant👍
Can you make a video on how you raised capital for this project the financing.
As I'm sure a mean-spirited commenter would love to tell you, I have family money that I used on this project. And as hard as it was, it would have likely been much harder if I had a bunch of investors or a bank breathing down my neck.
But honestly, and I really mean this, the funding would not have been very hard. From the very beginning, I showed my plans and basic drawings to a few people, trying to get them to be customers, and they offered me millions of dollars to invest. I have a list like 30 people long for "when you build the next one call me." If you have a great idea, and you do a bunch of legwork up front to put together a good presentation, and if you're in the right circle of people, you can get the money with a great idea, thoroughly vetted out.
I am incredibly privileged in my life in literally countless ways. I'd like to think that I want to use my privilege for something good, or at least something benign, and not like, world domination. My aspirations are fairly modest: a couple buildings around my home city that offer a good service to the car enthusiast community.
@@TheSmokingTire Thank you for your caring and insightful replay, i've been a fan of the content you put up on youtube for a few years and i'll work hard in the hopes of one day becoming an entrepreneur like yourself.

I hope you didn't pay much for that masonry work...
Agreed, I could probably make it straighter.

2:24 lol never seen matt's leg tattoos before
I had a similar idea 10 years ago but parking was way different. Never thought about a detail center, very cool.
Congrats man! It's been a cool journey following this.
"This building is rated for a 12.0 earthquake." REALLY??? The strongest recorded earthquake in history was a 9.5 lol
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that is B.S. Earthquakes are measure on a logarithmic scale. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; as an estimate of energy, each whole number step in the magnitude scale corresponds to the release of about 31 times more energy than the amount associated with the preceding whole number value.
It's nice to know that while the Earth will swallow me whole and bring about my death in a 11.9 earthquake, if I had an exotic car there, it'll remain safe and unscathed.
As soon as I heard that I scrolled to see if someone picked that up. It’s log scale don’t think anyone sane engineer will sign and say it’s rated for a 12 earthquake.
I often make up figures for my Honda so I see where he’s coming from
yeah but what if 11 comes? I mean just look at 2020 so far
there's already a part 3...
Haven't watched yet but the preview made me smile: totally how I've always imagined doing the same. Those parking lifts have made me happy since the very first time I saw one.
Great to see your progress Matt!
That wall next to the sidewalk is totally uneven! Who did you hire to do this work? Those who are visually challenged?
It’s code in LA that you have to used retarded people for all masonry work.
This place is looking awesome Matt. Everything except for the exposed ceilings in that first floor entrance area. Kinda ewwww. I'm guessing you're going to have a fair amount of wealthy men who will remark about it's unfinished looking status.
I guarantee not a single wealthy man will give a shit about how my ceiling is styled. So far, 70% of the people who have deposited with me don't even live in LA.
TheSmokingTire ; Your right Matt. It’s the wealthy women who will immediately notice and then give you more unsolicited advice on how to fix it than you ever dreamed of.
@@TheSmokingTire it's chic as fuck Matt don't worry! tho I think it would be cool if you painted the time hangers in that area black or gray or even blue...
