  • In this episode we stroll down the Santa Monica boardwalk as we look for the best combination of tourist and local hot spots, beaches, hangouts and preferred VIP locations. Might also grab a sneaky bite from a food truck along the way.

Thanks for stopping by! We're Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk in our reviews about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

This may be a question for a future FAQ but do you find yourself changing the rules of games that aren't satisfying enough and if so has it worked? I'm definitely with you finding so many games copy and paste themes and always wishing the beautiful games were fulfilling but often find it's not the case.

Hmmm 🤔 we don't usually house rule or change the game in any way. In fact, even if we've been playing a game wrong and then work out the actual rules that turn out to be less fun, we still tend to use the technically correct rules. Maybe we are just rules followers in general 😅😅😅 but also assume that the designer had good reasons for their choices. How about you?

@@ThinkerThemer haha, well I've been known to get the rules wrong and gloss over the correction if it works, though it can be a bit contentious if we're half way through a game about which rule to follow! I think if you're in agreement with the other players about a rule change then I find it can just add an extra layer to a game.

This game left me with the same impressions. It looks fantastic, but just wasn’t very exciting to play. I tried it twice, then sold it to a friend for a convention library, where I hope it will get more love. It was fine, but a game needs to be really good to stay in my collection.
