One of the most impressive things about Dave Mustaine is his ability to sing while simultaneously playing some complex rhythms on guitar. He definitely put in the hours.

Wore out my copy of the documentary (Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years) this is from when I was a kid. It dealt mostly with the Hollywood hair metal scene of the mid/late 80's. This segment wraps the doc out, and Megadeth was the only thrash band they covered. This song always hit me deeper than a lot of Megadeth's stuff (Don't get me wrong, huge Megadeth fan) because of the lyrics.

Hell yeah!!! This song is pretty much as close to a ballad as it gets for Megadeth, such a great song! I gotta keep requesting "Ashes In Your Mouth" every time y'all do a Megadeth video, I would put it in Megadeth's Top 5 best songs and it happens to be off of their most popular/best selling album Countdown To Extinction.
I'm tellin' y'all, you're in for a real treat with "Ashes In Your Mouth"! Can any of my fellow Trash Talkers back me up on this one? Great video as usual guys, much love to the Trash Talkers community!

I remember an interview he wrote this after Cliff Burtons death. He was homeless and a massive drug addict and homeless. He wrote this on a wall in a warehouse he was sleeping in. He was so upset that NO ONE from Metallica told him. He was a very close friend to Cliff. Smokey is wrong about it being for just the shoot. Thats old school trash concert mentality. Ive crowd surfed several times back in the day. Some not by choice lol, Hollywood is write, this doesn't happen anymore. When i saw slaughter to prevail at toads place in New Haven Connecticut,(home of Hatebreed) you cant even get in the door without signing a "cant sue waiver" Dave was tossed out without any warning. Lars hired kirk before he was fired. Lars kicked him awake and tossed him a bus ticket. Dave came up with the name megadeth on that bus trip but it was a song name.

The worst part is that we all knew the basic rule of thumb without anyone having to tell us.
. Don't stage dive if your a big guy (and expect to be caught).
. Don't crowd surf on a small crowd.
. Keep your heels up high.
. No fighting in the pit.
. No chicks in the pit.
A few bad apples had to ruin everything.

'In my darkest hour' was written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine after he got the news that his former bandmate bassist Cliff Burton of Metallica was killed in a tour bus accident in 1986... It was his was of eulogizing the late bassist. Mustaine's 'darkest hour' was referring to the day he was fired from Metallica in 1983 - Mustaine was a member of Metallica when they wrote the debut album "Kill 'em all" and he, Cliff, James and Lars went to NYC to record it and do shows... James and Lars said Mustaine was in bad shape on the trip and they needed to get rid of him ASAP... They had already decided on auditioning Kirk Hammett and bringing him to NYC as Metallica rehearsed there.
Mustaine recalled waking up one morning (the day Kirk Hammett was arriving) and being told by all 3 and their manager that he was fired... He was handed a bus ticket back to L.A. and sent on his way... Mustaine said he hated them and plotted revenge - his whole motivation for forming Megadeth was to get back at them. He was especially angry when he heard "Kill 'em all" in 1983 and Kirk Hammett played all his songs and solos on the record that he had co-written.
In 1986, Megadeth was touring on their 2nd album 'Peace sells, but who's buyin'?" ... and in the fall, Dave Mustaine was told that Cliff Burton had died (Metallica's camp never contacted him w/ the news) and despite the rivalry between the 2 bands, Mustaine was devastated and wrote 'In my darkest hour' right away... It was recorded for their 3rd album 'So far so good so what!' in 1988.
It was no secret that Dave Mustaine was a heavy drug user when this music video was filmed in 1988... It was used for the soundtrack of the documentary 'Decline of Western civilization Pt. 2'... about the 80's hair metal scene - Megadeth was one of the bands featured... Mustaine was eff'd up on h.er.oin and other junk... hence, the shades to hide his eyes showing he was high and trippin'...
It wasn't long after this was filmed when Megadeth's bassist David Ellefson checked into rehab... Megadeth just played a massive show w/ Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses & Kiss at the UK 'Monsters of rock' festival in 1988... Ellefson got dopesick in Europe and had to leave to get treatment for his addiction. Dave Mustaine went w/ him - his first trip to rehab as well.

All the scenes of stage diving from all concert videos wasn't made special for concerts, it was just how it was in those times, until 2004. The main reason why you don't see any stage diving today is tragical death of Dimebag Darrell. This was the spot of music history that decided fate of stage diving. After that ALL concerts have hollow safe zone like 2-5 meters near the stage, and security doesn't mess around anymore and they beat the sh*t out of ANYBODY who manage to climb on stage.

A "little person" (I don't know what I can or can not say anymore) said to follow him. We didn't know him. Followed him all the way up to almost the front. 5 mins later we saw him bouncing around in the pit then later crowd surfing. If someone else didn't see him, I would've thought I imagined him.

Thrash shows were actually just like that back then , cameras or not . Wild times . But I still agree with Smokey too that this was filmed just for the video because there were cameras in the pit as the stage divers flew down around them in some shots . So it was a combination of what always went down at those shows with a little extra umpph because the crowd knew it was being filmed for a video .

    Megadeth are god tier band..
This was legit what shows was like in that time.. The footahe was filmed for a film The Decline of Western Civilisation.. Thats where the intro quote and footage from the studio is from.. And what the last closing quote from Dave Mustaine was from.. They promoted the film with the video and the film promoted the video.. But legit shows had some wild shit happen.. You can see it on the 1986 music video for Wake Up Dead.. Kids full on going nuts on stage and diving all over the place.
That ended by the 90s.. Though some bands do still let audience up in stage from to do the moshing out on stage.. Suicidal Tendencies is one of them.. Its super rare.. Diving off the stage though no.. There is a big gap now between the stage and the pit.. For security.. Not possible to jump..
Crowd surfing remains in place and has sort of replaced stage Diving.. Ive seen artists attempt to stage dive today and nobody caught them.. LOL!
Megadeth surpassed Metallica years ago creatively speaking.. And has maintained that for decades.. Metallica just kind of relied on the success of their 83-91 period.. Megadeth never did that.. It kept forging legacy.. And its paid off at this point.. Back in the mid 90s to the mid 2010s Metallica sold 5x as many copies of their albums than Megadeth.. Metallica were listened to by 7m people a day on Spotify.. Megadeth at that time was listened to by about 1m people a day.. Today the picture is very different.. Megadeth now sell 1/2 of what Metallica do.. And they are listened to by 2.5m people a day to Metallicas 5m a day... The gap between the two bands has shrunk big time.. And it looks like it might continue to narrow.

So i had bruises etc but a broken bone at a metal concert will be an exception - no matter how brutal it might look like.
And I’ve been at least to 5 gigs where huge bands like Rammstein or Iron Maiden didn’t tell that the concert will be recorded and I after months i heard via media that there will be a dvd/download … so don’t judge and speculate do research, even better finally get yourself tickets for live shows!!! 🥳🍻🤘

Mustaine didn't get a lot of support from his family, and also felt betrayed by Metallica when they kicked him out of the band.
    Video was filmed in 1988.
Cheers from the Southermost place on Earth!!!

It was a reverb, not Autotune. Metal bands particularly of that area never used Autotune. Generally, the albums were intended to capture the live sound just clearer than you get from an actual concert recording. It's still looked down appong these days. Being able to actual play your stuff for real is very important in Metal music.

    • @sirsancti5504
      @sirsancti5504 8 месяцев назад +1

In metal, autotune is a crime, a certified for "no tallent".
In pop-music, somehow it is now used as "digital art".
(I still go by pop-stars/rappers that used it are talentless pitch-screamers).

Answer to one of your questions: Dave did not play on the first Metallica album (Kill em all). He was replaced by Kirk Hammett after being kicket out of Metallica right before they was going to record the album. :)

This is my favourite era of Megadeth and this is one of my favourite songs from that era. It's a shame that this version of the song is so heavily edited, but that used to happen a lot with metal songs in the 80s since the album versions were usually too long for MTV.

So Metallica has a song "Four Horseman," and Megadeth has the song, "Mechanix." They are basically the same song, and it has been a fued between the bands over who wrote it. Y'all should check them out back to back and listen to the differences. 🍻🤘

Dave is widely regarded as the godfather of thrash metal. Band members of the original thread bands such as Exodus, Anthrax, Slayer and others have talked about going to the early Metallica shows specifically to see Mustaine. The vast majority of them list him as one of their influences. James did not even play guitar in the early days. Kerry King from Slayer was actually was actually in the 1st lineup of Megadeth, but it didn’t work out. A lot of people don’t like Dave, but his influence on the genre cannot be denied.

    In My Darkest Hour
    Song by Megadeth
    Lyrics:
    In my hour of need
    Heh, no, you're not there
And though I reached out for you
    Wouldn't lend a hand
    Through the darkest hour
Your grace did not shine on me
    Feels so cold, very cold
    No one cares for me
Did you ever think I'd get lonely?
Did you ever think that I needed love?
Did you ever think to stop thinking
You're the only one that I'm thinking of
You'll never know how hard I tried
To find my space and satisfy you too
    Things will be better
    When I'm dead and gone
    Don't try to understand
    Knowing you, I'm probably wrong
But, oh, how I lived my life for you
    Still you'd turn away
Now, as I die for you
My flesh still crawls as I breathe your name
All these years, I thought I was wrong
Now I know it was you
Raise your head, raise your face, your eyes
Tell me who you think you are
    I walk, I walk alone
    To the promised land
There's a better place for me
    But it's far, far away
    Everlasting life for me
    In a perfect world
But I got to die first
Please, God, send me on my way
Time has a way of taking time
Loneliness is not only felt by fools
Alone, I call to ease the pain
Yearning to be held by you, alone
    So alone, I'm lost
    Consumed by the pain
The pain, the pain, the pain
    Won't you hold me again?
You just laughed, ha, ha, you bitch
My whole life is work built on the past
The time has come when all things shall pass
    This good thing passed away

Everyone’s talked about the serious stuff, so let’s talk about fun stuff:
The band name comes from the very real term “megadeath” which is a unit of measurement of the amount of loss of life in a nuclear war. (Okay. Maybe not so fun. Haha)
Ya’ll mentioned Iron Maiden’s mascot “Eddie”. Megadeth’s own ‘mascot’ featured on most/all their album covers/art/tees/etc is “Vic Rattlehead”. Heheh
    Cheers, guys! 🙂
