This isn't the first time I've seen people mention serious bugs, but in all the hours I played Squadrons the only bug I encountered was the inability to bring up the scoreboard after certain matches. Hopefully they get all the other bugs sorted out!
I can't believe it took this long, outside Valkyries that this is the firstish flight game in VR. I've always felt Ace acombat was a missed opportunity.
9.7? Now that’s close to S&S, a top 5 game for sure. On an unrelated note, could you give me a rating of until you fall? I got swordsman recently and don’t know if I really want it. Thanks for your great reviews and content!
The Until You Fall review is one of my many projects this week and I need to spend way more time playing it before giving it a rating. But so far it's fun! :D
@@WithoutParole Yeah man I wondered about that -- wise man! Until You Fall seems like a short game but it takes a LONG time to really understand its depth. I just beat it on "Relentless" difficulty and man you need to understand the gameplay systems perfectly to take that on, but that's also the only difficulty that really forces you to need to understand it (since enemies coordinate to get you -- change the whole game to what it really is). I wish it respected your time more though. :\ My winning weapon combo was the engraved sword for defense and the Gemini Stranded for offense. Awesome game, my GOTY. Going back to Swordsman VR with its near total lack of game design is pretty much impossible now.
I feel like E.A. could do a season type of deal similar to what firewall does that maybe gives new cosmetics and emotes that wouldn’t be bad. I respect their decision but still see potential. VR is indeed the only way to play tho!
I had a choice between getting the PS five or the VR package. It was a tough decision but I went with the VR. I did so because I can remember when I was young I would play Atari and Nintendo. While playing I would wish that we, as gamers, could actually be in a game. Not to leave reality(Tron) but in someway have more physical control of the characters in the game. It was a childhood wish of the early 80s. It was this wish that heavily influenced my final decision. I bought Star Wars squadron a couple months back before even knowing my wife was going to surprise me with a little bit of money that could be spent on just whatever I wanted. I put it in and all of the adjustments I had to make to the controller map discouraged me and I have yet to play it. But instead of taking it back I chose to keep it saying to myself , “I will come back one day and be more patient with the controls”. Little did I know that I was going to get the VR. It (Vr) I’m told by my tracking number will arrive at some point tomorrow. I have already purchased one of the gun controllers. It was a bundle pack with the game included called Firewall:Zero Hour. I also have a game called Rush of Blood that I received some time back through my PS plus membership. Also, the VR came with Ironman. Now that I have it(Vr), I have went online to look at other game’s reviews to buy. I believe I’m going to go with a horror game and Spiderman two. Possible gran Turismo as well. If any are reading this, and I doubt anyone will 😂, any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Also, great job on the reviews y’all do. We appreciate your hard work, time, and professional approach in producing such an amazing final product. So I will say it for all the gamers that watch, that is if it hasn’t already been said, thank you. 😇
Thanks for this review! One thing I personally just don’t understand is at 4:50. Why does it matter that you could lose interest after a couple of months of play (with no DLC announced)? There’s so much to play, that I’m often happy to be able to go on to the next game.
Hey! Let me try to clear that up! EA not supporting their game matters when you compare it to something like Firewall that keeps getting new maps and contractors every few months to keep the hardcore fanbase alive (and coming back for more.) For me personally it's not a huge deal because I constantly need to move from new game to new game, but for people who only buy a couple games a year (and spend hundreds of hours with each) it's going to be a big disappointment.
@@WithoutParole I understand, thanks! Totally makes sense; people that want to get invested long-term in this game, are outta luck. All the best man & stay safe!
I want to purchase this setup. Do I need the PSVR camera to play this game or can I just purchase the PSVR headset and play with a PS4 controller? Great video btw!
Good review, but in addition to the occasional screen jitters you had in the negative column, I'd add the sub-par overall frame rate as a negative. (The screen jittering is really annoying when it does show up, which is way too often, so it's a pretty big negative.) I went back and played X-Wing Mission to compare the two and while Squadrons looks better overall the frame rate feels glassy smooth in X-Wing Mission by comparison. If Squadrons ran that smoothly it would make a great game even better. EA's been working hard to address performance issues for the PCVR version so there's hope that they'll address the PSVR's performance issues at some point.
In VR you mean? I have this setup: PS4 (OG) + PSVR (OG) + HOTAS (T.Flight 4) = Best PSVR experience to date. I’m amped to play this combo on PS5 one day, however!
Thanks for the comments. I’m not a graphics freak by any means. But I wanted to make sure before I bought it. I picked up the Quest 2 and visuals are razor sharp compared to my PSVR experience. So I’m weighing which system to get this on. I will say I’m taken aback by how heavy on the face the quest feels. I could play all day on the psvr no way on the quest and for all the hype about the new quest controllers I actually like to move controller more as of now in my hand. Oh well.
@@dpicardi23 If you think the Quest 2 is heavy on the face, be glad you don't have a Quest 1. :D There was no way to get comfortable with the Quest aside from trying expensive mods like the "Frakenquest". Eventually I got used to it, but Playstation VR is so much more comfortable than the "scuba mask" designs most other headsets use.
@@DylanGladstoneMusic sadly I think I’m going to come to the same conclusion. I’m no engineer but why can they throw all the processor/battery to the back and simply have the lens in front? Also I would have gladly paid $50 more for the proper strap right out of the gate. Trying to hit a price point that will ultimately require you to buy a necessary accessory is the opposite of good CX/UX.
For me, I only played the single player campaign, and in VR. The graphical fidelity was lacking, and some of the story beats were silly. I'd give it a 7/10. I don't have a strong desire to play through it again but I probably will. Hopefully I can eek more fun out of it. I played the original space sims from '93-'99, so those were what I was used to. What I do hope is that the success of this game allows developers to make a AAA title from it.
It's the frame rate. Play them both back to back and Squadrons feels like it's really struggling to run on PSVR by comparison. I'd take a downgrade in graphics in Squadrons to get the performance of X-Wing Mission.
This is what Eve: Valkyrie should have been. They fixed pretty much everything wrong with that game. Other than the already badly needed new maps, the wait times for games is ridiculous. Other than that, I'm loving this game! This game is so good I'd be willing to throw good money at a kickstarter to get new maps.
The only problem with these games is a few months after launch multiplayer is dead with not enough players. So many awesome games like this and you can't play with anyone online it sucks. It's whats put my off of VR, having a large, active multiplayer community is important to me to enjoy a game.
Great fun! I only wish there was a "skip all" option to get past all the conversations and the briefing. It would also be great if one could unlock all the load-outs through single-player 5v5 practice for those who aren't interested in online.
TWD Onslaught: all you do is stab zombies in the face. This game is awful. Squadrons: all you do is shoot your laser pew pew's at space triangles. This game is awesome. XD Great review very informative.👍
Thanks, sounds good as Ace Combat was, even as a real Pilot it was great. I don't have online play for PS, wish it was included as with Steam. May wait for a sale for single player mode only or do a month of online. - Birdman Vegan Future
Hey Bryan, thank you for your review, I really like your narrative style, it's compelling and deep... just one thing, though: I bought this game for my brand new PS5, and it's so jittery it makes me sick (I never have motion sickness while playing VR). I'm afraid there's a lot to be fixed, but EA doesn't seem to acknowledge the problem, yet. On PS5 it's unplayable as is... it's a shame, and a big disappointment for a Star Wars fan like me. There's an active thread on EA Forums: if you're experiencing the same problems I do (jittery movements and heavy ghosting anytime you turn your head), please make yourselves heard! answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/PSVR-on-PS5-Head-Movement-Lag/m-p/9749534
You can always check the review summary screen at the end to see which controllers are supported. With Squadrons it supports the DualShock4 and HOTAS (flight stick) controllers. :D
The same VR stuff that any other game would require - the headset, breakout box, ps4 camera, and ps4 console. There are no PSVR games that'll work without the camera - it's needed to track the lights on the headset. I hope that helps! :D
We've heard this from a few Pro owners and I'm still at a total loss as to why some people think it looks great and some people say it looks as blurry as NMS.
This game makes me feel a bit queasy as well, and I don't have the issue with the old X-Wing Mission, Eve, or Ace Combat. I think it's the low frame rate. I have the same issue with a few Oculus Quest games that run at lower frame rates. The 2D elements are distracting and slightly immersion breaking, but at least they don't effect the gameplay.
The online will keep me from buying this until it gets cheap. Never played an online multiplayer, never will. I know I'm in the minority, but hey I likes what I likes.
Another terrible decision by EA, why release a good game then announce that you aren't going to support it in any way, WTH were they thinking, it seems all they care about it their Fifa and sports games (i.e gambling slot machines disguised as games).
Could it be they may be working on a sequel for PS5? I don't have the game as I am useless at flight games it seems. But I have read some complaining about the graphics etc. But I can see the PS5 being their first consideration now.
@@JazGalaxy "I won't put words in your mouth" ... except you kinda did, neither me nor anybody would have been against a proper expansion for the game with more maps, ships and modes and maybe even some additional story chapters, that premise you are making is plain FALSE and a strawman, you surely know very well why people are skeptic about EA and any of their DLC plans, it has nothing to do with the idea of DLC itself but with their scummy and shitty practices. Whereas nobody was opposed to Blood & Wine when it was announced as DLC/expansion to Witcher 3, you know why!?, because CDprojekt Red don't nickel and dime their customers for everything thing they offer, their DLC has great value and they don't turn their games into gambling machines, it's really not that hard, EA just don't bother trying! Cause here we have EA with their pure genius and big galaxy brain have to either go to one extreme or the other, either release shitty DLC or exploitation microtransactions or no DLC at all!!!!?, no thanks you, releasing a game in which the multiplayer is an important part of the game then announcing that you won't support it at all is very short sighted and means this game is DOA.
Or hey, they could always give us *[GASP!]* free DLC like First Contact and countless other companies do. Saying we shouldn't criticize companies for not supporting their games is a huge step in a terrible direction. :D

I'm really enjoying the game but even after two patches it still has some issues that need fixing.
This isn't the first time I've seen people mention serious bugs, but in all the hours I played Squadrons the only bug I encountered was the inability to bring up the scoreboard after certain matches. Hopefully they get all the other bugs sorted out!
Such a great game but not having any death star or hoth mission on campaign or multiplayer is a missed oppurtunity
Coming to PS plus!!! cant wait to play it!
Disappointing no updates are planned lots of potential in this game
They’re having seasons and (more) cosmetics
Great review again Bryan. How about a developer interview with EA and pressuring them into releasing more content?! :D
Solid and honest review Bryan. The news of no new DLC is disheartening, but still greatly enjoy Squadrons. Thanks for the review. Meow! :)
Great review Bryan! I need to get on with some cats at some point, being the only one with a mic gets old really quickly; also, #gamecat
This looks so cool! Thanks Bryan!
(The screen jittering is really annoying when it does show up, which is way too often, so it's a pretty big negative.)
I went back and played X-Wing Mission to compare the two and while Squadrons looks better overall the frame rate feels glassy smooth in X-Wing Mission by comparison. If Squadrons ran that smoothly it would make a great game even better.
EA's been working hard to address performance issues for the PCVR version so there's hope that they'll address the PSVR's performance issues at some point.
If this gets a PS5 update like Blood & Truth, I'll buy! Even though I hate Star Wars.
Excellent review man. Thanks 👍
And after that review I'm off to buy it on Amazon for £13.75 new. Thank you for the review.
What flight stick do you recommend and are other vr headsets compatible with ps4/5?
😁Its so good to hear your voice Bry, Waddup!😁
Nice review. But what I really need to know is...how does this game look and play on a regular PS4?
In VR you mean? I have this setup: PS4 (OG) + PSVR (OG) + HOTAS (T.Flight 4) = Best PSVR experience to date. I’m amped to play this combo on PS5 one day, however!
It's noticeably blurry at first, but once you get over it, it's actually not bad and still a blast.
There was no way to get comfortable with the Quest aside from trying expensive mods like the "Frakenquest".
Great review Bryan. Definitely top 10 material.
Thanks for a thorough review.
Someone needs to re-do wing commander in VR, even if the interactive movie bits are flat screen. Would be epic. Watch and learn colonel 🤣
I personally like the conversations, so certainly not a negative for me. This game is definitely amazing!
Had zero interest in this one when it was announced to be MP focused. But you have changed my mind, watching you play and discuss it. Thanks!
This made me go out and get a psvr. I kinda wish it supported motion control but a sweet vr experience.
I love it but imo it doesn't feel as good as the battlefront VR mission for some reason
It's the frame rate. Play them both back to back and Squadrons feels like it's really struggling to run on PSVR by comparison.
I'd take a downgrade in graphics in Squadrons to get the performance of X-Wing Mission.
Yes!! Its here!!
How does the flying controls compare to ace combat7 VR missions?
Hey what's the name of the song from in the beginning of these reviews?
If anyone can answer please and thanks 😊
The only problem with these games is a few months after launch multiplayer is dead with not enough players. So many awesome games like this and you can't play with anyone online it sucks. It's whats put my off of VR, having a large, active multiplayer community is important to me to enjoy a game.
That’s my sister on the right at 2:01!
Great fun! I only wish there was a "skip all" option to get past all the conversations and the briefing. It would also be great if one could unlock all the load-outs through single-player 5v5 practice for those who aren't interested in online.
Only thing the game lacks is John William's music. I understand the desire to make their own music to avoid paying George, but come on.
TWD Onslaught: all you do is stab zombies in the face. This game is awful.
Squadrons: all you do is shoot your laser pew pew's at space triangles. This game is awesome. XD
Great review very informative.👍
What I want to know will the PS5 have a graphics boost, which this my planned girst PS5 purchase when my console arrives next month.
Great review, great game. Sad it's so blurry on an original PS4. Hope they sharpen things up with a future PS5 patch for PSVR (1).
I thought it looked pretty good on the OG. I don't have a Pro though to compare the difference in the headset.
Psvr 2 capability?
great review as always Bryan
Aww yeeah, a must have PSVR game and one I feel like I've been waiting for my entire life.
This game would be 10/10 win move controllers
so i guess with this being on psn free this month... theres no vr mode to it??
There is vr mode in it just put your vr set on and it will change
How bad is the motion sickness with this?
I had zero motion sickness, but i don't get sick in VR. It's usually less about the game and more dependent on the person playing.
No move controller support? After No Man's Sky, I was kind of expecting it to have it.
Aim controller works though.
I never even know a HOTAS existed for PS4 until now
When is the team tournament =p.
What do I need to run this on p4 vr ,just the headset or the camera and the dumb sticks too
You can always check the review summary screen at the end to see which controllers are supported. With Squadrons it supports the DualShock4 and HOTAS (flight stick) controllers. :D
@@WithoutParole thank you I am still unclear as to which PlayStation VR equipment required to run it in VR
The same VR stuff that any other game would require - the headset, breakout box, ps4 camera, and ps4 console. There are no PSVR games that'll work without the camera - it's needed to track the lights on the headset. I hope that helps! :D
Please dont give EA any bad ideas. I hate exposition during missions.
Wing. Fucking. Commander!!!
Now we just need Activision to finally get on a full version of 2016’s Jackal Assault.
I need y'all to start saying more games suck... I'm too broke for all these games to be decent lol.
Love you guys
I disagree about the visuals, its one of the more blurry PSVR games. I'm on Pro too.
We've heard this from a few Pro owners and I'm still at a total loss as to why some people think it looks great and some people say it looks as blurry as NMS.
On sale for $10..
Yes please
The Empire will rise again.
Stop using up all the ship's bandwith and bring me my milk NOW!!!
This and EVE Valkrye on PS VR2
I'm still holding out hope that they add some planet maps. They know we all want them.
The game has been fixed a couple of days ago!!
Is it sad i watch your reviews several times Bryan?
I didn't get on with this game. I've played a lot of vr but this made me feel sick which is a shame. I also didn't like the 2d explosions.
@@DylanGladstoneMusic I'm glad I'm not the only one
Thanks
The online will keep me from buying this until it gets cheap. Never played an online multiplayer, never will. I know I'm in the minority, but hey I likes what I likes.
Like you've never played any game online? What's your reasoning good sir?
I'm not that into online either, but I've played a few MP dogfights and it's a lot of fun.
The single player campaign is really well done.
Needs a PSVR2 upgrade
Who else is waiting for a star wars psvr with lightsabers?
No B-Wing. THERE...IS...NO...BWING.
That was also my frist reaction
Have to sell my PSVR today 😢😥😥
Bruh I played this and I just want to say it’s a great game but motion sickness activates🤮
Another terrible decision by EA, why release a good game then announce that you aren't going to support it in any way, WTH were they thinking, it seems all they care about it their Fifa and sports games (i.e gambling slot machines disguised as games).
Why does every game need extra dlc or updates? It plays and looks great. 40 bucks and no microtransactions. You know exactly what you pay for :)
