@Winston Smith Yep, that’s what most people don’t realize. DLCs were always a part of video gaming. Back in the day, they were called Expansion Packs. I hope that we go back to those days when expansion packs are released with new ships, maps and storyline.
They shit all over battlefront 2 with dlc man, and dropped it when it was getting good.

They only added 2 ships so there 5 for 5v5.. Theyve already announced theyre not releasing anymore content for squadrons. Even less likely now since lucasgames and massive are working on a open world starwars game.
Edit: also ea lost its exclusivity license so unless they wanna be sued they legally cant add to it. And no more starwars games untill 2023 when the contract expires also to avoid lawsuit

Well Joe had two ratings, without HOTAS and VR it would be a 7/10. But, with VR and HOTAS is a 10/10.

I feel like this is actually what would happen to a rookie pilot while their ship is heading to a debris field.
And then you consider that debris fields aren't actually a threat to even modern spacecraft and by the time we have full scale dogfights in space they'll be even less of a threat

I didn't get a stick myself but I can still feel the general pain of SC
A friend and I were all excited and bought starter ships in middle school. We're in our 3rd year of college now lol. All of the development videos and blog posts have been interesting and I've learned quite a bit about how games are developed so I wouldn't say it was a complete waste. I haven't played the alpha in a while though. Just check back on progress every few months until there's more things to do.

Between this and Jedi: Fallen Order, EA Star Wars might actually be on the right path now. Even with Battlefront II they started showing promise. Sure the loot boxes and progression were bullshit, but the developers stated committed to that game for years, adding tons of new content for free. There is hope at last

Problem is they cut support for Battlefront 2 and instead are making Battlefield 6. And there's been no reports of them making Battlefront 3 even though there gonna make a Jedi fallen order sequel

It takes hours for no good reason, at least in ED and SC all those buttons have a reason to exist. In SW Squadrons the game is dumb and all those options are pointless making the configuration tedious and complex for no reason.
Also, the hotas support is ridiculous.

Except this engine can't get over 60 fps in 2020. Everybody is locked at 60 fps which leads to a horrible VR experience. You can tell Joe hasn't played many VR games because VR runs like absolute poop for Squadrons.
I cannot believe how realistic and immersive it's getting. I hope I Live to see the day where we can upload ourselves into the Star Wars matrix and just live in that universe.
I was let down by the PSVR graphics. Like a LOT. I was confused cause the SW battlefront one VR mission looked SO GOOD. But then I realized it was two different studios. But I bet squadrons looks amazing PC VR though.

Compared to Elite Dangerous this one was easy to jump into. ED equally as mesmerizing in VR but the action in Squadrons is simply incredible.
@@richard2616 Elite Dangerous was going for more realism. You travel through vast emptiness to explore planets with nothing but rocks. Just like in real life.
Imagine ED had just a hint of content like this one... or making pve worth something... xD

This game in VR with a Hotas literally puts you in the Star Wars piloting experience. It's truly amazing! I experienced it with my Index and cheap Hotas.
I played it on psvr. I totally agree. Anyone knocking this game as not good or bad because EA has not played it in vr. The visual of being in the cockpit of an x wing in space flying around in a fleet battle is so epic and so amazing.

Mmm...if you like air combat games and like star wars then yes. But without the vr the experience and the limited modes of the game will likely get old fairly quick. Again. If you like these kind if games you'll have fun. And its only $40 or less on a sale of if you have ea access. I feel vr ir not its worth the money. But with VR its worth $60. It feels like some vr experience you would have at a theme park that you pay $20-40 for a one time pass. But its at home and you can play as much as you want.

Many years of Battlefield flight controls mixed with my ELITE DANGEROUS rank really wasn't fair to all the Noobs trying to figure just WHY they have to adjust subsystems.......meanwhile I'm trying to hack this bitch into Frameshift Drive somehow and make record time to Hutton Orbital in an Awing.......there HAS to be a way.

I dunno, even as someone who's played ED for years, setting up my X-52 for that was a cakewalk compared to this. Can't unbind the menu button, can only reassign it. Defaults to the toggle I'd want to use for shield facing, game forgets your hat is switched to 8-way instead of 4-way sometimes, etc.

@@quabeckjr3 I mean, the difference is only that they are spending the same money that they would on multiple games, but on only one game that they thoroughly enjoy. There is nothing wrong with that so long as the game isn't bad. Apex is by no means a bad game. Maybe it's not one you enjoy, but many others do. You don't get to ban players for spending money on a game that is made well and they enjoy. It would be a different story if the game just sucked.

The frown to smile at the top of the review might be one of my favorite Angry Joe moments ever
As someone who has played the entire x-wing series, I can say that this game is amazing! Many of the mechanics from the 90's games, such as the power management, repair, and targeting systems, are here and work very well. I'm also really glad that Tie Fighters don't get trashed if only 2 laser beams hit you like in the original x-wing series (not an exaggeration), and actually have a little bit of durability now.
Yes, I played Xwing vs TIEfighter when it was first released in the late 90s. The management systems are as i remember them, and voice of your pilot while in the cockpit is a nice touch, a throwback to the orginal. But in VR it is just ....... kicks it into another league. Learning to pilot your ship in in and out of the space junk at high speeds is as much fun as blasting an foe into a ball of flame.
I actually loved that the Tie Fighters were disposable and you would have to work yourself up to slightly better craft. In the movies all fighters on both sides get wrecked by just one hit more or less (unless you are the hero) so it's not that X-Wings were accurately depicted.... I don't know, I get why they did this. I won't knock it until I try it.
I want to see a clone wars version of this seriously how cool would it be to fly a Jedi starfighter/interceptor?

Tbh... With Jedi: Fallen Order and now Squadrons, I feel like EA finally has found its own footing of what to do with Star Wars games. Make a compelling and great single player, mixed with some balanced out multiplayer, and free from micro-transactions and loot boxes and free post launch content... I think EA finally has found out what to do.

I remember waking up at like 6am to play this as a kid, I would go down to my PC and plug in my old Top Gun Thrustmaster and would play X-Wing and Tie Fighter most of the morning. My Mom would come down at like 7:30 in the morning and wonder what I was doing awake so early. Amazing nostalgia trip playing this game. It's too bad people are having issues with HOTAS. that is so strange my Thurstmaster T.Flight Hotas X worked perfectly I didn't have to map any controls just had to figure out what button was what.
Maybe this was after a patch I heard they released?
Great games. I played them all but my fav was X-wing Alliance. That was something superior at that time.

I feel like this is going to be something I’ll really enjoy 20 years from now. By then VR will probably be much more ironed out and mainstream and I won’t have to drop $600 for all the equipment needed to play it with that fully immersive experience.

Well guess what, times have changed.
Tip: the Logitech extreme 3D pro goes for around 30 bucks and is more that sufficient for this game (Add a tiny amount of z axis deadzone) You will need to use your jeyboard and mouse to switch power balance. Give callouts and move shields (shields are on your mousewheel. Remap the look controls to the hat so you don’t have to use free look to look around But it’s a wonderful joystick.
This is the joystick I'm using at the moment, and after about an hour of trial-and-error I managed to map almost everything to the stick. Some are combos and a little hard to get used to at first (one button will change my shield focus depending on tap, double tap, or hold) but it works well enough. I kept my power balance on the hat stick and decided to mostly ignore freelooking, but that's really only an issue in Republic ships anyway. You can't really see anything but forward in any TIE except the Reaper.
That being said, I used to own HOTAS set (Saitek X45) like 10+ years ago that eventually broke on me, and I must admit it would be a superior setup. I'm hoping to purchase an X52 soon.
It's a shame that Joe uses X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter as his base comparison when, naratively speaking and mission-design wise, both the original X-Wing and Tie Fighter games were vastly superior.

This game is literally a copy of the old “x wing” series. And that’s why it’s fantastic and you gotta play it. I just wish they added more of the ship specific weapon systems instead of giving all ships the same secondaries added all the other starfighters from the series and added some of the ways you can mess up your reactor
Is it very short version of X-Wing but if you search on the net you can see that there's a group of people that have taken X-Wing and they're modernizing it with better graphics and it looks amazing this is like a hit-and-run

Robert yeah that’s good too. But XWA upgrade fails to fix the whole. Controls problem I enjoyed playing it. But squadrons is just a multiplayer focused version that has been better balanced for it. XWA UPGRADE will not be for most people unless they give it modern joystick settings

Someone asked me “was there a AngryJoe review on Squadrons” today and somehow it came out today.
I have too say after expecting a shallow, loot box filled, bare minimum mess. I had a lot of fun with this game, even if you don't have the gear Joe has , it's just a much fun so I agree this is definitely worth a play

You should do what Jim Sterling does. Put in a lot of copyrighted materials so that they fight each other and nobody can fully claim it. You won't get money out of it but hey, neither will they.
It's kind of risky, but it might work in some occasions.

@@jayhan5185 The pain is still fresh... stopped about a year ago, came back recently to find all my bindings reset. I have no idea what I had as my config, can't fly the camera to take my fancy pics, and I'm confused as hell looking at all the options I need to redo!
