Gabik Pepperoni sadly never played skyrim when it was on last gen consoles. i picked it up for psvr and that shit was incredible. only vr game i was able to put hours into and really enjoy it
Sounds brilliant. Such a shame about the locomotion. And that sounds like such an easy thing to fix, from a programming stance. Not that I can program but yea, surely it'd just be a case of switching off the input from the headset while you're using the stick to move. So crazy they never had the same epiphany during the long dev cycle. Let's hope they listen to the reviews and feedback and fix that.

Honestly, I think it's because most of the developers don't play other PSVR games. If you watch Bryan's interviews they always are stumped when he asks them what their favorite PSVR games are.

I will probably wait to grab this though until they hopefully patch the movement system. I tend to play my VR games for hours on end and wouldn't look forward to either getting sick or straining my neck...lol. Add to that, Stormland and Asgard's Wrath just came out and I still need to pick those up for my Rift so this game will have to wait. BTW, Congrats on hitting 50k subs, it is well deserved! Sounds like the oddest locomotion system so far. Maybe they were trying to simulate the ponderous weight of being a Golem, but like you said doesn't do our necks any favours. I am looking forward to a game where I can actually block sword strikes, that looks pretty cool.
The game has been recently updated and you can use the DS4 for moving around on one hand while using one move controller for the sword. It makes the games much comfortable to play
Can we acknowledge that everyone should be talking more often about this game and that it should always be in every top psvr games? This game is so immersive and fun to play. I love being able to use DS4 + move controllers. Definitely a good solution for the lack of analog sticks on the move.
There has been an update to the controls of this game. You can even now use the somewhat obscure PS Nav controller. I wish more games would add this pad as it seems perfect for VR. Great review, enjoying your channel!
Thanks Pelican Hands! The only downside to that update is that the PS5 doesn't support the Nav Controller, so when i played it recently on stream I had to hold a DualShock4 in my left hand, which just doesn't feel comfortable

Something funny is that with your Review I discover something that isn't mention no your review, the game is compatible with the move's navigation controles insted of the Dualshock.... You can hold the move Te boton to look arround without motion sickness and the navigation controler yo walk

Highwire Games hasn't said anything about a patch, but since the game just came out today and reviews are just starting to roll in I wouldn't expect to hear anything from them quite yet. But let's hope! :D
So far, I've gotten slight sim-sickness both times I've played the game. I haven't had that problem in 5 years. The problem is the head tracked turning. No matter how hard I try, I can't avoid getting at least some smooth turning while I move around. Smooth turning= bad. I hope they patch an option in later that can turn head tracked turning off or this one's a no go for me.
I never remove music from my reviews, even if it results in a copyright claim. But you do go long stretches in Golem without music, so there aren't a lot of scenes in this review that feature it. :D
The insects that you see early on are a little unimpressive. I heard someone say how scary they were but (as someone who gets scared of literally everything) they were kind of boring lol.
I like the look of this game but think i will pass as not my sort of game really. I noticed that Last Labyrinth supports the navigation controller and it made me wonder if it was possible for Devs to use one for movement with a stick and use the move motion with the other hand.

Hey Jeff! I tried to describe it a bit during the review but it basically means that your character will turn and walk in whatever direction you’re looking.
The 19th was supposed to be the worldwide digital release (EU physical should be out today though.) But just before I published this review Golem showed up on the North American PlayStation Store so I changed the date on the summary screen at the last minute. In other words, probably the 19th.
It's a peripheral called the 3dRudder where you have to sit down and use your feet to control movement. It's really expensive (over $100), uncomfortable, a lot of games don't support it, and you have to play sitting down. And to add insult to injury, it can cause motion sickness in people (like me) that never suffer from motion sickness otherwise.

Hmmm... well, I’ve reached my 2nd Golem, and so far I hate it! Maybe it’s because I just played Shadow Legend, and I loved everything about that game. Now along cones this clumsy Golem game, where the movement controls are terrible and inconsistent with other games, which makes the battle scenes next to impossible - I’m trying to fight the Golem, but because I accidentally move my head when it’s attacking me, my Golem starts moving all over the place. I’ll really need to give this game a breather, before I can recover from my frustration & try it again. BTW, did I mention Shadow Legend was great!.
Shadow Legend is amazing but mostly because your character is so damn agile. Climbing, shimmying, etc is a ton of fun, even if combat is slightly disappointing. Golem is a completely different beast. Slow clunky movement, but exceptional combat... Make sure you experiment with different control options. A lot of people found the DS4 or Nav Controller easier for locomotion - oh and make sure you turn off that option for head turning or adaptive turning or whatever they called it. I hope Golem grows on you! :D
If they patch this with a decent control scheme (honestly can’t believe it got released with something so awful) I might check it out, but I can’t justify spending money on something I know is going to ruin my neck.

No idea. I played Demon's Souls and loved it for its originality. But didn't get hooked again until Bloodborne. If I had to guess it's the perceived, immense challenge that eventually becomes routine with practice, making you feel pretty badass. But that's just me. :D
I completely agree with you..I was like you before bloodborne release..I played souls game and I did not like it...Skip all souls games...Once you are into bloodborne..there is something which no other game will make you feel..For Example: You will saw a tough enemies in a group bloodborne..You try to lure him alone and circle him around to find weak spot,if he hit you ,you become aggressive to get your health back..Your death also seems legit (that your mistake)....Long story short: it is leap from modern and old gaming mix..they nailed it..trust me play bloodborne ...
Noooo.... this is the only game that had given Me motion sickness. Graphics are top, swordplay really nice but sweet shit that locomotion is a sign of bad programming. Take into consideration that I do both rally and sairento with triple jumps and flips without a trace of MS.
"Open world" seems to be thrown around. Maybe you mean open ruins. I didnt see any open fields and places to go visit from any of the footage. It all looks like just pathways or slightly open spaces. Skyrim is open world.
Skyrim is a massive open world. Golem is a city with fields, buildings, and deep cavernous areas - all without loading screens. So just to clarify, it's a much smaller open world than Skyrim, but the term still applies. :D
I went into this with high hopes but was seriously disappointed. The first hour was so boring and aimless. The movement controls don’t make sense and the collision detection during combat is broken. Each time I try to counter attack after blocking the enemies exposed weak spot is always out of reach. Also the inability to save during a run means each time you die you have to repeat the whole level again making the game feel repetitive. Considering shadow legend is the same price it’s a much better option.
Sounds like you're having technical issues being too far away from the weak spot. I'm assuming you recalibrated and are still having the same problem? But I guess regardless of that Golem isn't your type of game.
Depends on your definition of empty. There's plenty of one hit enemies, and of course the bigger golems. But there are audio logs to be found every minute or so that tell a story about the past (the origin of the golems.) Add to that secret areas to find and collectibles - so no it doesn't feel "empty". But it might feel a bit "lonely" which is an aspect I really enjoyed.
Another game hyped up and failed wtf cant they just keep it simple controls. Contagion was another one hyped up and is shit. PSVR is becoming a hype and then fail machine for games

Golem allows for that. You can use a Dual Shock or a Ps3 Navigation controller in your non sword hand.

i refuse to get it till they update the movement to two move controls with the right way to use it like every other cool vr game.

It's tough to say yes or no. It's definitely a janky, somewhat low budget game. But it's also a lot of fun.

But there are audio logs to be found every minute or so that tell a story about the past (the origin of the golems.) Add to that secret areas to find and collectibles - so no it doesn't feel "empty". But it might feel a bit "lonely" which is an aspect I really enjoyed.
Did you get lonely in the game at all? Seems lonely just walking around exploring dead cities.
