Only people that have never played VR will say that playing a VR version of a flat game is not worth the money. In my opinion I would always replay a game if it were remade specifically for VR and implemented well for VR.
I never made those statement. I said the ability to replay flat games doesn't sell hardware. Just like no one went out and bought a quest to play half-life 1 or doom 3
That's good for racing games like Gran Turismo, games where you play sitting down. But to me VR Will never become mainstream until it solves its biggest problem: walking. Walking ruins immersion in VR, the platform needs a contraption that transfers your natural walk into the game.
There are more, but Astrobot and Blood & Truth are two games I would love to see remade and/or get a sequel. But Sony just seem to have lost all interest in supporting the PSVR2.
Astrobot, Wipeout and other games would help a lot. But especially Astrobot. Or playing flatscreen titles in on a virtual 3d screen. Seeing Ghost of Tsushima in 2d in PSVR2 was quite disappointing.
Saw this coming. Wish I’d been wrong. When the thing launched and I’d already played 95% of the available catalog on my Quest or PC I knew things weren’t going to turn out well.
Quest is the clear winner for now, but they should do a few things going forward.... 1. Release more games that push the industry forward. The trick to doing that should be the Quest Lite if they execute it right. The Lite will have the same processor as the Quest3, so it should be able to play VR games at the same graphical fidelity and resolution. Its also going to be the cheapest headset on the market and should compatible with all Quest 2 games as well. With that said, unfortunately the Q2 should be retired next year. Don't discontinue software support, just stop selling them so that all future purchases are of hardware that'll encourage developers to push graphics and the size of games to newer heights. 2. Don't discontinue PCVR support in new headsets for the foreseeable future. Within 15 years, advances in microprocessors and A.I. should allow for photo realistic graphics for those who have powerful computers. All we have to do after that is wait for mobile devices to be able to close the gap. In the best of games, graphics are already 70% - 80% percent of the way to being as good as they'll ever get. Therefore mobile devices wont lag behind forever but until the difference is far more negligible between PCVR and mobile, then PCs offer added value and should be kept in the loop. 3. Most importantly, listen to customer feedback! Creating stock head-straps that are uncomfortable so that users buy an elite strap, backfires because it can flat out turn new users away from VR. Most people in the general public aren't die hard VR enthusiasts and may only ever try VR once if their first experience gives them a headache. Meta should take concerns like this seriously.
Giving playability for 3d blurays would be awesome, but they could also make their Core app compatible with the PSVR2 and make a section for 3D digital movies. Then they would probably get a whole new sales market out of it.
@Gamingwithmatteo311 yes it is but it should be the norm as it is better. If in this matter we stick to ground realities then we all will be playing games like gorilla tag instead of re4 remake. We should be rooting and striving towards the best quality. Without psvr2 that wont be possible and we hope sony starts talking about their plans
@@NinjaGuyVR Don’t worry, the Quest 2 is by no means unplayable! The Quest 3 was a fat chunk of change so I just got the headset with no battery head straps or anything so whenever it dies I still hop back over to my Quest 2 and the transition is fine but definitely noticeable. The Quest 3 is a clearer more fluid version of the Quest 3. It definitely isn’t some massively huge upgrade, it’s just like being in a fog for so long and suddenly coming back to clarity and forgetting what clarity was supposed to be 😂 And the tracking is definitely smoother and controllers fit better in my hands personally. I’m 6’4” with giant hands and these little controllers feel great to me. The tracking is definitely improved though. I play a lot of Population:One and noticed I wasn’t needing to move my wrists as much to control recoil properly. The smallest movements are picked up by the tracking so you don’t have to put as much emphasize in your movements anymore. Same thing with reloading. I didn’t feel like my motions had to be so exaggerated anymore in order for them to work. I could move at a smoother pace and have it track very well. I’m excited for you to get yours! But like I said, it isn’t a massive jump in experience like going to PCVR, it’s just the next stepping stone forward, but it’s a great step forward!
Same dude. I still have my Quest 2 and use it from time to time to compare and the Quest 3 is way sharper. It's mainly due to the pancake lens as it has a way bigger zone where the visuals stay clean and crisp. The Quest 3 is like putting on prescription glasses for someone with poor vision and using the Quest 2 is now like taking those glasses off and having blurry vision in comparison. Enjoy!
I will give quest3 a try someday. So many youtubers were comparing quest2 as a better alternative to psvr2 prior to quest3. I ended up buying q2 but it was so uncomfortable and bad looking that i returned it i 2 days. Now youtubers are pointing out that pancake changes the game completely so i will give it a shot. But psvr2 looks very clear and good to me when the game is optimized. Quest2 was very ugly and washed out colors
@@waleedisnowagamecatspecifi1499 I've never tried the PSVR but I play PCVR via my gaming rig with an RTX 3080 which is a bit faster than a PS5 so I kinda get the best of both worlds in a sense. VR still has a lot of refinement to get to the point where mainstream consoles are. We are essentially in the Super Nintendo days of VR at the moment but it's moving quickly. Try getting an elite strap for comfort. I have the Zyber one but Kiwi also makes super comfortable straps.
As someone with both the PSVR2 and Quest 2, I love them both. They both provide wonderful experiences you can't get otherwise, although I do wish the PSVR2 had more functionality like for netflix and RUclips. I probably wouldn't use those features, but I've had people tell me that that was why they chose Meta over a PSVR2 setup. Also can't deny that the barrier to entry for psvr2 is much higher than Metas offerings, as most can't justify spending 1000 or so to have the full setup versus 299 to 500 for Metas. I just want to see this tech grow and get adopted by more people.
@jeffghant4760 not anymore, but it did at first. Found out I had the sweet spot a little off, and even a little off centered messes with the clarity. One big downside of fresnel lenses.
I agree PSVR 2 and Playstation in general has done a poor job of communicating their road map for 2024. However using the 2023 Holiday Sales Figure for comparison is misleading. It's basically the launch window for Quest 3 so, of course, their numbers are higher. A better comparison would against the launch window periods for both headsets. But yeah, even so, the holiday sales for PSVR 2 are grim because Sony isn't giving gamers anything to be excited about for 2024. The narrative of the PSVR 2 could quickly change if Sony announces hybrid versions of their AAA First Party games, announce a new Astrobot game playable in VR, or a new AAA First Party VR Game - the least likely option IMO. Hopefully when Jim Ryan leaves, Sony will take a new tack and be more communicative about their games - flat and VR. Like you, I hope VR continues to grow across all platforms because competition is good.
Unfortunately with just how consumerism along with society is, we will always take our purchases personally. We want to feel like the direction we took with whatever it is we bought, was the correct one.
@@ThatDorkyReviewShow Haa, I think most people do 😂 I know some people that are actually paralyzed by choice and never pull the trigger. They miss out on the entire experience because of over-analyzing.
Identifying emotionally with consumer product engagement is a recipe for unhappiness fr though. looking for validation of that though online videos just makes it worse. That's not a knock on Mattao311's content, which is nicely produced and engaging.
I bought both PSVR2 and Quest 3 and was going to return the one I didn't like. Quest 3 went back. I must mention I have a sim racing chair setup and Gran Turismo 7 with worth $1K alone! No PCVR game can beat GT7. That and Pavlov is so less janky and so is Breachers.
I traded my PSVR2 for a Quest 3 because of the lack of support. But man, the Quest 3 has some rough textures. I know it’s mobile. But I expected at least Switch level textures and lighting.
Thank you for this video! Specifically @9:21 onwards. I'm trying to explain this to people in discord and they just don't get it. It doesn't matter if you love the platform or the games are good. If Sony isn't doing their part to push the product, developers will dip. Absolutely nailed this.
Yeah watching you try to explain that to everyone is rough, man. I try my best to help, but some people just don't want to face the reality of how the headset is doing right now. And I get it. For my part, I've been expressing some of these concerns since before launch. I don't even own a PSVR 2, which is insane since PSVR 1 singlehandedly reinvigorated my love of gaming and I own more games for it than any other game system except PC. Sony's lack of commitment to it is the main thing that made me hold off. I wanted to see what they had to show for a second wave of first-party software. Now I'm not even sure that second wave will ever come. 😿
Sad to say I very much agree with everything you said. I'm praying Sony start ramping up the psvr2 but I'm not convinced they will. They have got a lot of gaming IP'S and they are just not utilising them. It's absolutely barmy they haven't done Astro Bot 2. I'm like you and have had many headsets. Rift, Rift S, Quest 1, 2 ,3 and psvr and 2. At present I gotta say quest 3 is my go to headset because it has a huge sweet spot so I can just shove it on my head and the clarity is there without messing about trying to get it positioned exactly right.
something worth the mention is the modding.... unfortunately a lot of big games rely on mods for the success and under PSVR2 is always a pain, or not existing or they came extremely late... beat saber without mods is a below avarage game, but it's not the only one
Very objective review, good job man!!! Sony is infamous for making an amazing product, then dumping it into the ground once they see how bad it's performing. And right now.... yikes. It's probably going to turn into a vita situation again. I'll be looking at what the modding community has to offer if Sony axes it.
Thank You for saying this it NEEDS to be said and I wish Sony had tried harder but it looks like they have given up I at least hope they loosen their grip on the exclusive that are not Sony IP's
PC VR is having a hard time too I think, but PC VR has the modding community porting the older Half-Life flatscreen games into VR and stuff like that to keep it on life support. Yeah, Meta is really dominating VR. I broke down and got a Quest 3 lately so I can play standalone VR games, not to mention the Lone Echo and Asgard's Wrath series, the various Meta Star Wars VR games, etc.
Great Video Matteo! It's interesting hearing the current situation with Quest and PSVR. You're the kind of person that I'd love to have a conversation with someday! If the players want the exclusive features that PSVR is giving, Playstation should jump in and give an incentive. Like a bonus to developers who plan on putting PSVR features in their game. I don't think that Playstation will ever cut support of their PSVR, but I feel like we'll only see 0~1 exclusive AAA game a year, with the good games coming fewer far in between. Before I got into VR, I was always like "The best VR games are on Flat screen, and the other VR games all feels like proof of concept, so why bother?", I'm sure a lot of people are like me, so hopefully these industries can change this mindset. I enjoy the Quest due to having PCVR compatibility, this is definitely the selling point for me. I don't know if I'd love it as much if it was only standalone. PCVR + Quest gives me a very big library of good games.
I agree with you in that Sony needs to step up. I love my PSVR2... I love my Quest 3...I love my index and reverb G2 on the pc. I think Sony should put the VR2 on sale and get more ps5 owners on board. Here's to hoping.
PSVR2's terribly small sweet spot, CABLE(in 2023...Baffling), Giant rings surrounding the controllers, nasty OLED mura & god rays, Bulky front visor, discomfort around the nose area due to the lack of padding, no colour pass through or any unique VR Eco system really hurt it. Sure, the Quest 3's black levels, Colours and horse power can't compete. Even it's controller haptics aren't in the same ball park, and it doesn't include adaptive triggers either. Regardless, Quest 3 does everything else better. I wish i could magically connect my Quest 3 wirelessly to my PS5 and just use that to play PSVR2 exclusives and whatever else. :P I'd get a wide sweet spot, pancake clarity, buttery smooth CRT-like motion, no mura or god rays, minimal glare, NO cable, no ring'd controllers and it's easily more comfortable. I'll gladly sacrifice black levels and Colour for now, until Meta releases Quest Pro 2 in 2025 with a micro-oled display. ;)
@80sHolic7 everything about the Q3 aa far as VR gaming goes is beneath the PSVR2.... I've never had any issue with getting a great immersing experience with my PSVR2, must be a personal thing (just sayin) maybe you don't know how to properly set it up and calibrate it....the games aren't up to par with PSVR2 games either and the immersion isn't as good Q3 doesn't even have foveated viewing or haptic feedback....I've never experienced discomfort wearing the PSVR2 either nor has anyone I let try mine.....not to mention PSVR2 has already got the "Golden Joystick" award
I always say that Uncharted and The Last of Us would make great flat to VR ports, if done similarly to RE4 remake! Maybe a Killzone or Resistance experience! The ideas are there but yeah, sales do run the world Hoping for the best for both systems! Great video, man!
I've been a what you couls call a Sony fanboy for years. I decided on a quest 3 for myself this Christmas over the psvr2 having owned the psvr Whilst I enjoy the quest 3, I can definitely see the hardwares limitations. I am looking for aaa experiences and although I haven't tried some of the best yet I have got athgards wrath 2 and I can definitely see where the developers have been severely limited by the hardware. Overall though I'm happy with my purchase. I do think I may have enjoyed the psvr2 more personally but I have hopes for the quest platform. Love the channel BTW really good work
Sony needs to sell replacement controllers. My left controller analog stick stopped working. Now I can't use my psvr2, so I am forced to go and get the Quest 3 today. This has made me so pissed off with Sony's vr situation. I was totally onboard with psvr2 till this happened and realizing that I can't even replace my controllers with out having to buy the complete psvr2 all over again has really tainted my experience with the product!
We are a three VR headset family (still working on getting my wife into it). We have two Quest 2s (my daughters' Christmas present from grandma two years ago) and a Quest 3 for me. I think the hardest thing for us would be PSVR2 or PCVR even would require buy in of 3 PS5s or PCs. That isn't economical for us if we want to play VR together. Playing together on Q2s or 3s is doable.
I believe your point about hybrid games is out of touch, for most people who like or are interested in VR, one of the first things they say is "I wish I could play X in VR".That X is usually a flat game they have already played like COD, GOW, Last of US, etc. A great example is the reaction the original Resident Evil 4 had on quest, it sold extremely well and was well received by everyone despite it being an old game played by a lot of people. And the same applies with the PSVR 2, Capcom in April confirmed in an interview most PSVR 2 headsets have played Village, fact of the matter is that porting successful flat game is what drives sales and outsiders to VR. I think you're out of touch as you binged so much VR and flat games that it would be a turn off for you to play a ported flat game in VR, that isn't the case for most people. Unfortunately we don't have the download numbers of flat games for VR solely on the Sony store but I noticed before PSVR 2 GT 7 wasn't in the top 20 downloads but it jumped to number 8 after PSVR 2 release in the flat store.
I agree we all feel that way and hybrid games are awesome but the important factor you miss is they aren't selling the hardware. It's not what Sony needs now. It's not about my opinion it's about sales. Your gt 7 example aligns percently. People already bought the hardware because it was new and then they needed something to play. It's not they bought the psvr 2 because gt7 became a vr game.
I agree with you that it seems like the hardware sales is lacking but I don't think it's due to a lack of games but a lack of marketing from Sony. I recall when the PSVR 1 was being launched, it had frequent ads, a lot of game stores allowed you to try it in person. Then contrast that with the PSVR 2 whereas at launch depending on your location, it was only available from sony's website robbing you the chance of encountering by walking into a store. There were no dedicated events solely to VR, the online adverts seemed lacking, they could have paid massive youtubers and streamers to promote their new device but barely did it. Now when I speak with the average playstation owner they're not aware of the PSVR 2 but are familiar with the PSVR 1. Every person I allowed to try my PSVR 2 headset to play GT 7 or Horizon, lost their minds at but sadly for most people they aren't aware of it.
Had the Quest 3 for 2 weeks prior to getting a PSVR2. Quest 3 well built and lenses are awesome but gets hot. Got PSVR2 for RE4 and 8. After evaluating trade offs, I returned Quest 3. I did the PCVR on 4090/14900k. Looks awesome but at the point in my life, and 28 years gaming on all systems, I don't want to deal with the process of trouble shooting. Aside from PSVR drawback. It works, it's light, doesn't get hot, and control/tracking are awesome. Only if PSVR2 had OLED pancake lenses. I heard it's not possible yet due how much light it would take.
Fantastic video my guy. I agree with Quest appealing to far more people because it covers everything from hard core to causal players. Features and versatility is vastly better for Quest. The support from Meta is die hard and that’s absolutely not the case from Sony lol and support is everything. We know Quest isn’t going anywhere. I still disagree with the hybrid argument you have. I believe you have it backwards. I think the exception is actually the people who “already played these games”. I think most people who play VR only want to play these games because they are AAA VR games and some of the best VR games of all time. It’s different when played in VR, surly I don’t have to explain that to you lol. I’ll give you an example of how these games do sell headsets, my good friend Jerry was dead set on Quest 3 and he was asking about PSVR2 so I showed him the trailers for all of the top games on PSVR2 and he was shocked at the quality of the titles and is now considering spending the extra money. Games do sell headsets. I will agree the sales are very sad for PSVR2. Hopefully they can lower the price of the hardware because the headset is great and there is a ton of potential. I think Sony probably has great things in development but if we don’t start to see a change soon, I do agree it will spell disaster for the future. We just need to see what they have coming so people can get excited. You can’t say that it’s crap though, nobody is hyping anything it’s objective been great. If we compare the exclusives the PSVR2 leaves the Quest in the dust and the sad part about that is Quest is fully backwards compatible so we’re comparing a brand new library to a library that’s been around since 2019. If PSVR2 has better exclusives already I fail to see how it’s crap. I get the numbers aren’t sustainable, but it hasn’t even been a year yet. Let’s give it time before we pronounce it dead.
Sony could release a lot more VR ports of very popular PS5 games much fastest and for much less money and risk to quickly build up their library of recognizable titles.
I hope Sony does this, but it's not quite as cheap or easy as you may think. It took Capcom 9+ months to port RE4 Remake to PSVR 2. Their engine already supports PSVR 2, and they had gameplay code from RE8 that they could re-use. Despite all that, RE4 Remake doesn't actually have as many VR interactions as RE8 (you don't physically open doors or drawers/cupboards), and it still took 9+ months. Lots of people point to UEVR and say "See? Porting flat games to VR is easy!" without acknowledging all the jank and lack of interactivity. If Sony released a VR port at that level, they'd be ripped to shreds (and rightly so). We also don't even know if Sony's in-house game engines (Decima, Insomniac's engine, Suckerpunch's engine, Naughty Dog's engine, SSM's engine etc.) support VR. The only first-party studios I know of at Sony that for sure use a VR ready engine are Housemarque (Returnal) and Firesprite (Horizon Call of the Mountain).
@GreyMatterShades Absolutely. I was more saying it's likely going to be faster, less expensive, and less risky than the developing new IP and games from scratch. Quickly building up a large library of well known games with just the occasional new exclusive seems like the first needed step at this point. Time is short before people start bailing on the platform.
@@brettcameratraveler Ah, I get what you're saying, and I totally agree. Porting flat games is the cheapest and easiest way to get triple-A games into VR, so I hope they do it as much as they can. That said, I think spinoffs like Horizon Call of the Mountain are also cheaper than building a game from scratch, and they are a better way to sell the headset because they offer unique experiences in well known franchises. But they are more expensive and take more time to make than VR ports, so we'll naturally get fewer of them. I just hope Sony is working on some.
Great honest video. I am a big Sony fan. Owned ps1 through to 5 and had both headset from launch. However I returned the PSVR2 after a couple of days. I was one who suffered with blurry visuals and wasn’t really happy with it. I then went on to purchased a Quest 3 in December and I am really enjoying it. It has a great library and I love that it’s standalone, which for me I feel makes me use it much more. It’s a shame the PSVR2 wasn’t for me, although I am concerned for how the future looks for it and unsure why they have not made it backward compatible especially when there is not a lot of options in the PSVR2 library
I just don't understand where this idea is coming from. It's not going to happen. First of all, it wouldn't run in VR. Digital Foundry are basically betting that GTA 6 is going to run at 30 fps at far lower than max resolution on PS5 flat. There's no way to even get it to a stable 60 fps to reproject to 120 at an acceptable framerate. Even if they could make it run, Rockstar isn't going to waste their time with VR. GTA 5 measures its revenue in the BILLIONS, and GTA 6 is likely to be even bigger. The entire VR market is tiny compared to the market Rockstar is targeting with GTA 6 (and the PSVR 2, sad to say, is a small fraction of the VR market). Say it would take a team of 20 people 8 months of work to port GTA 6 to PSVR 2 (a very VERY low estimate), Rockstar would make more money if they had those 20 people spend those 8 months working on DLC or other content they could sell to the flat audience instead. And Sony literally couldn't afford to pay them enough to make it worth their while to do a VR port. It's. Just. Not. Going. To. Happen.
sony needs to incentivise big budget VR titles, even if they lose money in the short term. Meta invested into echo (which is gone now unfortunately), population one, asgards wrath 2 etc which all drove hype for their systems. the nintendo switch released with 2 games in 2017 and sold like crazy because one of those games was BOTW. sony releases a cool headset with no games and no one cares.
While the PSVR2 install base is obviously much smaller, it is also true that it has much higher attach ratios compared to the Quest. Plenty of people I know get the Quest for Beat Saber and that's about it.
I bought PS5 and PS VR2 together. Coming from Quest 2. I lasted 4 months before I sold both ps5 and vr2. Bad comfort, horrible display choice with blurry, murra and reprojection and most game launches in horrible state. Quest 3 now is my daily driver, love that thing.
And I can play Xbox on my Quest 3 with my Dual Sense Controller as it has Xbox gamepass also and that's going to be hard for Sony to beat that and I see Sony bringing out a new Playstation VR Headset when they release the PS5 Pro and i think they will add mixed reality games for it and make it wireless like the Quest 3 but will probably have the functionality to also plug in the Playstation 5
Hi, Matteo. This is the first of your videos I've seen; it won't be the last. The points you raise are cogent and accurate. I'm new to VR; my nephew has a PS5/PSVR2. While visiting him, last summer, I played Horizon: Call of the Mountain on it and was completely jazzed. I began planning on getting one myself but was disappointed with the paucity of PSVR2 offerings; there were perhaps 40 games available and many of them weren't appealing to me. There were maybe 8 that I found appealing and several of those were also available on Quest 2, which had literally thousands of games and cost 1/4 of the price. There are, of course, more out now but at the time I found myself weighing cost against gaming potential, as you very aptly pointed out, and wound up with a Quest 2. I just couldn't see popping close to $1K to play Horizon and a few other games. I will certainly move to a Quest 3 and I won't be surprised if a PS5/PSVR2 is in my future but your analyses of the effects of game availability, cost and mfr support were spot on. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Im thinking of getting into vr with the psvr2, for me there are a view titles looking interesting but the main reason is that i do not have space for a big and good tv at home and im planning to use mostly the cinematic mode since i dont want to sit on desk with monitor, thats what i doo during my job...
Great video, I loved it...! I I got my Q2 shortly after release with the intention of using it for PC VR, MS Fligjt Simulator but I'm a massive Skyrim fan so I got Skyrim VR first and ended up in that world for 1000's of hours. Now I'm playing Into the Radius native on Q3.
The only way I see Sony succeeding is maybe letting the PS vr2 headset be open and let us use it for pcvr , ive always been a sony fan but havent felt the need to get a PS5, ive got a pretty beefy pc bht i would support the headset, its a good piece of tech
Sony makes money off games, not hardware. They'd make zero money off PC VR game sales, so it's of no advantage for their hardware to work on that platform. The only way they'd want to sell PSVR 2 on PC is if they wanted to liquidate stock.
PlayStation, VR2 owner here Great reviews I think your pretty much spot on !! Sonny needs God of war VR , Uncharted VR Astro bot 🤖 2. Twisted metal VR . Fucking Jet moto VR lol full send Sony legoooooooooo. Fingers crossed for 1 of the above 👆 at least 😂 almost forgot, metal gear , days gone , infamous ??? a lot of first party greatness just waiting lol
My biggest reason for Quest 3 over PSVR2 is accessibility and practicality. For PSVR2, you need the headset, AND the console, both sold separately. But the quest headset can be standalone, and is easy to set up anywhere. And if the limitations of the Quest 3 hurts your experience too much, it works just fine for PCVR, where you can enjoy Alyx, Boneworks, even VR mods, all either through cable or wirelessly. So while the PSVR2 offers better comfort and immersion, the Quest 3 just feels like the smarter choice.
Great video my dude, I know I’ll eventually get the psvr2 but that will be when I have more of a library to chose from - I have the psvr 1 and quest 2 but I think quest 3 is the way to go right now
All i can say is im glad im car nerd because gt7 is a dream come true. Otherwise there are some good games like the resident evil but sony need to give people a roadmap of a few AAA to peak more interest like the likes of something like gta v or red dead redemption 2 full ports
I finally bought myself a PS5 in anticipation of the (then) upcoming PSVR2 release. But when I saw the available content at launch, I decided to wait. I'm glad I did. With the exception of a few exclusives, I have access to most of the same games via Quest or PCVR.
The main reason I don't care much for vr anymore like I did before is simply because there just is so very little software made for the hardware that justifies the price of admission
Pc, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo… Picking a side is just plain stupid. If you’re a real gamer you would want every system to do good, because it’s overal good for gamers. End of story have a nice day.
Love that comment : How do you know mysteriously have numbers no one else has ....lmao...Okay will stop spamming now...Sony sell the Psvr 2 on sale at cost and make the money on developer game sales
I love my games on psrvr 2 better..But support sucks from a backward compatibility . Seeing Horizon and Gt7 and some other minor games rip the quest 3. But I use my quest 3 more from a multimedia device. Standpoint. So torn .. Thanks for making this Video . Sony lost my vote on the Vr forefront. They have to the end of year to announce some glimmer of hope for this platform...Graphics rip Quest 3 and you 4090 pc mains ..Price per value ...ps5 wins
I'm a bit puzzled about Sony not incorporating wireless connectivity for the headset with the PS5. I can effortlessly do this with my Quest 2 and PC, so it seems a bit counterintuitive. Additionally, the PSVR2 appears quite bulky; perhaps they could have considered pancake lenses for a sleeker design. Just sharing my two cents on the matter.
wireless isnt a sure thing and most ps5 are wireless themselves and that is never good for vr, i always wire my quest 3 to my pc because my router is too far away, wireless is always bad on my quest so it makes sense.
Pancake lenses and the OLED displays wouldn’t play nicely and making the headset wireless would have significant increased the cost and weight and stuff.
Sony's strategy seems to be mostly built around hybrid games like GT7 and the Resident Evil titles. Those sorts of games encourage longer play sessions, so user comfort is very important. Making the headset wireless would have meant extra hardware in the headset, plus a battery, which would all increase the headset's weight and the amount of heat it produces. Also both of those options (wireless and pancake lenses) would have increased the cost of the headset, which people say is too expensive already.
I honestly think Apple will be a major spark for VR. VR needs to be popular mainstream tech for other things than gaming, otherwise it won't explode. Once you have those computing headsets like Apple, Samsung etc, the install base will grow massively
@@steffendetrick once I see reviews for it, plus see its ability to play nicely with steam VR, I’d buy one. Those screens alone would make almost everything I currently play on VR much better. I do lots of driving sims, around 25 hours a week in VR, so definitely would get my monies worth since you can’t use PSVR2 on PC and I don’t feel like upgrading my quest 2 to a 3 if Apple can prove it’s worth
I thought very long and hard before I bought a quest 3. In my option it’s the best choice. I have access to AR games, Watch VR movies, and PCVR. If you don’t have a pc rig you can subscribe to Shadow pc and run PCVR directly from the headset with no wires. I can even run Preydogs UEVR mod from shadow pc. For flat games I can run GeForce now in 4K also directly from the headset. Aside from the few PlayStation VR exclusives I’m not missing much.
My 19 year old son spent years on the original PSVR and loved it. He has save enough money to upgrade to PSVR2 and has decided to get a Quest3 instead. I was surprised as he has a PS5 console and no PC. He explained the Quest 3 has a lot more of the fun games he wants to play and is not interested in AAA VR games. He also explained that the games he spent the most time on the original PSVR are not available on PSVR2.
Sony is so frustrating. They immediately abandon hardware if it doesn’t go gangbusters. PSVR1, PSVita both abandoned. Sony also puts artificial restrictions on their hardware. Once again with PSVita and the memory cards. Or PSPortal and no Bluetooth or web browsers, or apps, or cloud gaming, or bespoke direct 6e connection. Now with PSVR2 and no blu-ray, or back compatibility, or PC support. Just open the headset to PC and they’ll help sales and the industry move forward. They ALSO are hypocrites with exclusives. They complain to the FTC about MS and Activition but refuse to port their PSVR1 games to PSVR2. Do we need to bring up Bloodborne PC/ps5 port again? How about locking RE4 Remake VR to their dead platform?
I agree with the frustration, and it's doubled imo in the case of PSVR 2 because Sony themselves hamstrung it right from launch. They decided at launch it'd be a good idea to exclusively sell it through their own obscure website (Playstation Direct) in most of the major gaming markets. You couldn't buy one at a Best Buy or Walmart or off Amazon in the US for MONTHS after launch. Add to that a "marketing campaign" that's alternated between piss-poor and non-existent, and the complete refusal from anyone at the company to actually make any sort of statement that they plan on supporting it long term. It's sort of a miracle it's sold as many units as it has, considering the utterly incompetent handling from Sony. That said, I disagree somewhat about PSVR 1 being abandoned too quick. Sony developed and released games for PSVR 1 for around 3 years, then continued to fund VR titles from third-parties for it well into its 6th year on the market. Sony is the reason Moss Book 2 launched exclusively for PSVR 1, same with Hitman 3 and Iron Man. As for your point about Sony being hypocrites, you're being ridiculous. There's a huge difference between paying for a single game to be exclusive, and buying an entire company and making ALL of their games exclusive; and an even bigger difference between that and buying literally the OLDEST AND BIGGEST PUBLISHER in videogames, with all their studios and IP. And what does Sony not porting their PSVR 1 games to PSVR 2 have anything to do with this? They're Sony's games, they can port them if they want (I think they should, but it's irrelevant to the MS/ABK deal). As for RE4 Remake, Sony paid for Capcom to port it to VR. Why shouldn't they get exclusivity? Look at it the other way, if Sony couldn't make RE4 Remake exclusive to PSVR 2, do you think they'd pay Capcom to port it? I doubt it. They wanted it to be a selling point for PSVR 2, that's why they paid for it. Also if the RE8 or RE4 Remake deals are anything like the deal for the RE7 VR port to PSVR 1, it'll be exclusive for 1 year, then Capcom won't bother porting it anywhere else because it can't run on a Quest, and nobody on the PC VR side is going to pay them for a port. Between the different types of headsets and the practically infinite variations of PC hardware, porting to PC is a technical nightmare, and Capcom just isn't interested in all that hassle for a market as small as PC VR. They wouldn't be interested for PSVR 2 either if Sony wasn't footing the bill.
this is literally ALL they had to do....just make it pc compatible..couldve competed with Meta and Valve but nope...and I love Sony but they are really dropping the ball with this for absolutely no reason
just bought a psvr2 , I'm new to vr and I'm trying not to throw up after 15 min, but It is some amazing , I need to beat this motion sickness. I was considering buying a quest 2 instead because it has more games , cheaper. But visuals are very important for immersion and I dont want to upgrade my laptop. Beside that I don't have time to play so many games. I just hope they release Half life to PSVR2 .
I'm still waiting for the psvr2 to get enough games to be worth it. I already have a Quest 3 which just has so many more good games than it, and of course PCVR where there are some truly gorgeous games, not to mention being able to play things like Cyberpunk in VR and making Skyrim VR actually good. Other than a few psvr2 exclusives which can mostly be played via mods on PC, Quest 3 has all the same big games as PSVR2. Of course quest + pcvr gives you access to some of the best VR games like Lone Echo 1 and 2, Asgard's Wrath 1, Edge of Nowhere and more. What would really make PSVR2 stand out more is if it had the library of psvr1, then it would have enough unique big games to really justify it.
Agree, the Quest 3 is clearly a threat to the PSVR2 and it's vast library of games - big titles & smaller ones, it just pisses on Sony. The game prices are also ridiculous and refuse to buy them until they go on a decent sale. The thing is we all think of so many titles of games that we would love to play in VR but there is no marketing news or hype to get us excited. Sony are also killing it with their playstation plus packages... none of them come close to the Xbox Ultimate game pass which includes PC!! 2 FOR 1. I love Sony and have only bought one Xbox 360 in the past but have bought all Playstations since PS1. Look at PC, they have mods for every game. PSVR2 would sell a sh!t load if they made some sort of option to mod games even through an official plug in or something. Like Car games give you perspective views. Its already been done by Resident Evil 4 which was amazing. Imagine GTA, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Last of Us, Deep Space, Doom, all in VR. It would have all PS fans buying it for sure. Why don't Sony do a deal with Universal or Disney or another large movie studio and make VR movies. Something like the game Moss where its so good to feel like you are in the story whilst you are playing it. Even better concerts or sports games (Football, Boxing etc) that you can't make it too. At this rate, Quest 3 is going to do it all. What makes it even worse is we don't even have a cinema app or You Tube VR for watching movies and content. They need to pull their fingers out and fast. Oh yeh.... not forgetting they removed the Bluray 3d Movies feature too... like seriously WTF... are you trying to not sell the bloody thing..idiots are definitely at Sony somewhere.
Can you imagine how much better the psvr2 will be on the ps5 pro 😮 i remember the jump in quality from ps4 to ps4 pro vr1 quality and then psvr1 on ps5.
Before the psvr2 release, I said that the best move Sony could do, would be to release a standalone hmd that can also be tethered to ps5 and PC as well. That way, you'd have one device that plays it all. It would also add a good selling point and compete with quest, it would basically do everything that a quest does, PLUS psvr. If you want to be able to play as many vr games as possible with one device today, a quest and pc is the obvious choice. Sony made me fall in love with vr back in 2017, so it's sad to see the current state of psvr2. They haven't even ported over their old amazing exclusives, which really makes it look like they've already given up 😕
What people prefer of course is their own opinion. However, owning both I can say I prefer Quest 3. Not that the PSVR2 is junk but the visuals definitely don’t live up to what the reviews were telling us. The OLEDs have great black levels of course and do support HDR but the sweet spot is so small and the graphics are overall way more soft and blurry compared to the Quest 3 due to the lack of pancake lenses. Yes the games are mobile vs a console quality experience in the psvr but I usually play PCVR and being able to do that wirelessly is a game changer. It was a hard sell for me to spend 550 for a headset locked to only one platform. Overall I like both but it’s easy to see why the Quest platform sells better. The only way PSVR will succeed is if Sony dumps a whole ton of money into the platform themselves, like Meta is doing. It’s a pretty good headset overall it just needs support. Unfortunately I don’t know if Sony will do that. Others may not share my opinion on headset preference but that doesn’t change the facts. Sony needs to step up!
Good points the lack of communication from sony is worrying i am a bit worried they are going to give up on vr hopefully when jim leaves if it's too late they make more ads i think i haard once jim never believed in vr.
I’m in love with PSVR2. Finding the meaning of life before the hmds sweet spot, not being able to return games I didn’t like, no PC support and forever tethered, no control over reprojection. God I love it 😍
Honestly, Sony's fall down just about breaks my heart. I greatly enjoy my Quest 3 and use it as often as possible (and I never could understand all the fanboi behavior for any of this sh*t), but yeah, I just don't think the graphics are the greatest, and I'm very into that. I know making VR games is insanely expensive, but Sony's unwillingness to extend VR capability into so many of their games--or port the fun games they had in the PSVR 1 into the PSVR 2's ecosystem--is ridiculous. Sony's backing would definitely inspire developers to do just that, even with some of the risks, but let's face it, they've made it pretty clear that they aren't all that interested, so why should the developers be? Anyway, good discussion as usual, Matteo. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate the honesty in the video. The long-term success for the Sony PS VR2 will be to release AAA exclusive games that are both flat-screen and VR enabled. Developing AAA games that are PS VR2 only will never be viable for game studios. Recent news of an Unreal engine mod that allows games to be converted to VR gives me hope. The studio could put 95% of their development costs into the flat-screen game and 5% to enable it to also run in VR. I would also like to see Sony enable the PS VR2 to work on a pc. I know that several non-Sony developers are working on this and having some limited success. If Sony opens up the PS VR2 to run on a pc or even a mac, this will sell units. If they also lowered the cost by from $550 to $450, the PS VR2 would sell many more units than it currently is.
I agree they need hybrids (flat and VR games), and that it needs a price cut, but I disagree on a few points. First of all, I think Matteo is right in saying hybrids don't sell hardware, especially when they are launching 9 months after the flat version comes out. People who haven't tried VR just don't understand why they should pay hundreds of dollars for an accessory just to play a game they can already play on their PS5. They don't understand the benefits VR brings, and they aren't excited to go back and play a game they've probably already played and beaten and/or got bored of months ago. I think spinoff games like Horizon Call of the Mountain are more likely to sell hardware. As for the Unreal Engine mod, that's not giving developers anything new. All it does is turn on all the VR options that already exist in the engine for games that didn't enable them. The actual developers already have access to all of those VR tools and options, and more. Most major game engines are already VR ready (and have been for years), and yet most flat developers never even think to port their games to VR. UEVR is for VR players who want to play flat games in VR, it isn't for game developers to add VR to their flat games, as they can already do that (they just don't). As for PSVR 2 running on PC, I'm not holding my breath. Yes it would sell some hardware, but not a ton. The PC VR market isn't that big, and most people would choose a Quest 3 over PSVR 2 due to the pancake lenses, higher resolution, and the option of wireless play. That's especially true since PC VR games aren't built to take advantage of the PSVR 2's unique features (few PC VR games support eye-tracking, and none support headset haptics or adaptive triggers). Beyond that, Sony only wants to sell PSVR 2's that are going to be used exclusively through PS5's because that way they can make money on every game that person buys. Sony doesn't make money on their hardware, they make money on game sales. They get 100% of the revenue from first-party games and around a 30% cut of every third-party game bought for PS5/PSVR 2. Even if they ported their two PSVR 2 games to PC, they'd only get 70% of the revenue from them (30% would go to Steam or Epic or whoever's digital marketplace they were sold through), and they'd get nothing from third-party game sales. It's not about the number of units you sell, it's about how you can monetize the units you sell.
@@GreyMatterShades Yes. I see your point. The economics of the PS VR2 a chicken and egg proposition regarding VR unit sales. Sony needs great VR games to sell PS VR2 units, but a studio doesn't want to put hundreds of millions of dollars into developing a AAA game that only appeals to a small group of VR users. So, developing great AAA games that are VR only is not economically viable. A top game released on day one with both flat-screen and VR would allow for big sales to both groups. PS VR2 owners might likely be swayed to purchase a game that they might not otherwise buy because it supports VR. Over time, the VR library would build up and make a PS VR2 more appealing, I believe. VR is still pretty new and not too heavy in ownership compared to total consoles out there. How do people get into VR? I don't think any single game or a package of games does it to get someone to drop $550 for a headset. Obviously, there are early adopters of new tech who get into it. For heavier sales, this will come with a volume of great games and other content. I played Resident Evil Village in flat-screen and will likely go back and play it in VR. I also purchased Resident Evil 4 remake after the VR feature was added. I think a flat-screen player would decide to play a game in VR again after they get a headset. I believe Sony views the PS VR2 as an addition that helps sell consoles and possibly exclusive games. It is part of the comprehensive PlayStation experience. I am aware of what the Unreal Engine mod does. Guys who have turned it on say that older games come to life in VR. What this mod taught me, like you mention, is that the Unreal Engine already supports VR natively. I worried early on that VR development was a whole new thing compared to flat-screen development. I can see that a relatively smaller budget spent on a big game could turn on the VR feature. A friend asked today about which VR unit to get. I have watched a half dozen videos that compare the Quest 3 to the PS VR2. The consensus is that the Quest 3 looks sharper with the pancake lenses but the screen on the PS VR2 make the colors and contrast very good. The haptic feedback on the PS VR2 makes it more immersive. The PS VR2 also has eye tracking which the Quest 3 does not. There is more content for the Quest 3. I love the PS VR2 but recommended the Quest 3. I told him that he should only consider the PS VR2 if he also wants a PS5 and the Sony exclusives. I have thought about also getting a Quest 3, but I want to own a next-generation of VR unit. I am interested in the Pimax 6k when it comes out. I need to see if the Apple Vision Pro will have content that makes it a must have. In the end, content is king. Technology is secondary.
Who are these people who are bashing you for holding valid opinions? You've mentioned it a couple times now and I'm yet to find it in my own comments, and all I do is complain about Meta. Which isn't to say they don't have the best all-in-one headset right now. If someone brought that level of toxicity to the thread I'd probably dedicate a video to making fun of them for being obnoxious and fan-boyish. Put em on blast.
This is becoming more of a let’s push meta quest content channel instead of a vr in general channel. If we want to push vr in general we would be pushing ALL systems and not talking about how bad one system is selling and leaning people toward another, seems like some sponsored meta content 🤔
I'm not surprised psvr2 is struggling. I consider myself a gamer. But I was completely sleeping on VR until I got to play it one time at a buddies house. I couldn't believe how fun it was. I've been gaming since the 90's and this headset changed my whole view. But it's such a niche platform few people are gonna invest on it until they try it out first. I hope sony doesn't abandon it
I've always been a Sony fan but haven't felt the need to get a PS5, I've got a pretty beefy PC, and I would support the headset, it's a good piece of tech
Plus, the quest 2 and 3 can be used on a PC where you can play steam games and PCVR PlayStation VR2 you can’t so that is another thing that is going forthe meta quest line up
PSVR2 is on it's last legs thanks to Sony and their complete silence in the past year since launch, I would never of wasted (And a lot of other people I know said the same) $1000 on the headset if I knew FIrewall Ultra was going to turn out to be so terrible. My advice is to buy a quest 3, It' a massive upgrade over the quest 2 albeit the headstrap needs to be replaced still as it's not comfortable at all. I've spent a TON of money on the original psvr and I loved it for what it was at the time, PSVR2 is not worth buying untill it's half price.
😂 It hasn't even been 1 year and it's already over? Best year in VR gaming with 2 games that are easily top 5 best VR games ever made, yet it's "on its last legs". Whatever. Meta fanboys...
@@kato093 11,000 dinners? Geez aren't you a lucky boy, let's just say I've played a lot of VR games in general PSVR2 (which I was just playing) Is not the headset I wanted it to be.
@@jobbidiar yeah, very lucky. Because usually people don't have dinners. Wanna say something like "back in my days, we had cold socks for dinner"? Just to play more the role of the old man that a lot psvr games because he is old, just like psvr, which came out in medieval times, a long long time ago, in the ye old days of 2016 BC. I couldn't care less about how many psvr1 games you have, since pvsr1 was bad, just like all the other VR platforms. Even right now VR is pretty bad but it's getting there. mainly thanks to PSVR2, the only thing keeping it all together, with PCVR on one side, being all about modding and stupid social stuff like VR chat, on the other it's a toy, a literal smartphone with 2 smaller screens and lenses, playing PS2 games without shadows and ambient occlusion. This year was the best year in VR, mainly thanks to PSVR2. Half of the games winning in all categories are psvr2 exclusives, the other half are on psvr2. Just re8, re4 and vertigo 2 destroy the past 8 years. We are literally getting new games like dead hook and wanderer, with a state of play coming up tomorrow featuring a few games and most other games getting a psvr2 version this year, with a lot of games coming out later this year still being unannounced. It's all doom and gloom for psvr2 but .. what is coming out for PCVR or quest 3?! Uh? What are these amazing games on quest that makes it oh so bad for psvr2?or maybe it's VR as a whole that gets slow release because it's a niche platform with mainly indie studios, while Sony hasn't even revealed 80% of their own games on playstation as a whole, let alone VR. You not knowing shit doesn't mean there isn't anything being made. So stfu. If psvr2 fails, it fails. It's gonna be the end of VR. Congrats. Meta owns everything anyway. They buy up studios left and right at a loss, not making much profit from VR. The bubble will burst sooner or later. But I don't really care, it's not like I even play VR now with all the goddamn games coming out. Just got Tekken 8, in a week Helldivers 2 comes out, then final fantasy 7 rebirth, rise of the ronin, stellar blade, death stranding 2, silent hill 2 remake, metal gear solid delta 3 remake and...so many more. Crying before it has even been 1 year since psvr2 released is dumb. You owning the entire GDP of Venezuela in psvr games doesn't change that. Play flat games like normal people do.
I had a choice, meta 3 or psvr2 now i knew graphics were better on psvr2 but i hate being tethered but i also have a pc i built with a 4090 in it and i have a wireless setup to use the meta quest 3 anywhere in my house with no disconnect so for me the quest was a no brainer i can play all the resident evils in vr now not just 7 8 and 4 remake 2 and 3 as well pc have mods to get vr in so many more games and exclusive titles to like half life alex or project cars 2 and 3 plus if i leave home theres plenty of games on the quest it self
I love it when someone comments that PSVR2 is dead and own PCVR. I stopped playing VR all together for almost 8-9 months between 1/23 - 9/23. I came back to my Reverb G2 and Valve Index and there were no new games released in Steam VR store! More was released on PSVR2 during that time! PSVR2 FTW
It sucks that Sony have screwed this up so badly. I feel like VR is barely scratching the surface of what it can become but it needs to get the masses on board to keep the progression going. The obvious starting point to me seems to be creating as many hybrid games as possible, porting old popular games to vr (ala Skyrim, Borderlands 2 and Doom 3) and porting as many psvr 1 titles as possible.
I'm curious to hear how Asgards Wrath 1 and 2 are doing sales wise, and would be really interested to see what an alternate universe would look like where they were released on either PCVR or PSVR instead. Do you think it would've sold better, the same, worse? Do you think it could've helped sell headsets and/or consoles? My main question is how many people who own quest headsets do you think are playing big games on it vs. using it for other applications. But also, do you think gamers would choose to buy a quest headset instead of a PCVR or PSVR one? (Questions asked in good faith 😅)
From what I've heard daily active players on asgard 2 is insanely high but this was a free q3 title so everything is skewed. Meta wasn't looking to make money on this one, it's more for promotion
I played AW2 basically every day for a month and I finally beat it. It was definitely an insanely good game. But yeah it was included with the Quest 3, so tracking sales of the game itself won't show you how many are playing or loving it.
@Gamingwithmatteo311 yeah I was the opposite. I got into the uncharted rift a bit, but I barely touched it overall because I was focusing on the story. I'm probably going to play a bit more of the rift now.
What would you say is better to play PlayStation five games on? The Meta Quest three or the PS VR? I’m talking about games that are not specifically VR, such as the show and Madden.
All your points are valid criticisms of sony and their marketing. What i dont agree is how your analysis and a few devs have started thinking sony will abandon psvr2. The reason is they are equally silent for ps5 as well and that doesn't mean they will abandon ps5. In general sony is undergoing major changes in management and i think they are waiting to go all out psvr2 marketing when they do a price drop. Based on what they have delivered in first 11 months of psvr2, it is more likely that they will support. We got 5 bangers with re8 re4 horizon gt7 and Synapse which are NEW VR EXCLUSIVES not payable anywhere else. Quest had aw2 and ac nexus after like years of no significant exclusive. So the doom and gloom is an overblown reaction to Sony's silence and we definitely will be seeing sony talk more later this year
It's not my assessment and like I said I don't necessarily agree with it, I'm just relaying what I've been told. On the ps5 front though they have been very vocal and constantly dropping great games. I can't complain there
@Gamingwithmatteo311 they have been more vocal on ps5 as compared to psvr2. But in general they have been very quiet. Currently, we have no upcoming 1st party ps5 title announced that we know about which has never been the case. All the q1 2024 is mainly 2nd and 3rd party support which on psvr2 is not yet as strong.
hope you are right cause im disillusioned with sony mainly for their lackluster ps5 support, psvr2 lack of support feels natural when seeing what the PS5 is getting
@karsuz18 God of war Valhalla and spider man 2 were amazing. Bg 3 was my game of the year but that's multi Plat. Last of us is back and I'm exciting for hell divers 2.
Sony desperately needs to do a revision of PSVR2 and get it out by the end of the year, if possible. I don't think sales will budge all that much no matter how many great games it gets. The fact that's it's tethered to a cable, has an awfully small sweet spot which will turn the vast majority off, and in my opinion, is one of the most uncomfortable VR headsets out there thanks to the lack of padding around the nose area. Due to the small sweet spot it can end up resting on the bridge of your nose depending on your head shape. The front Visor is too bulky and long, and the controllers look ridiculous with those giant rings. And don't even get me started on the God Rays and OLED mura. I have both the Quest 3, and PSVR2, and it's pretty rough having to go back to the latter since the former nearly addresses all of it's issues and then some, and makes them that more glaringly obvious on PSVR2. Here's what I'd love to see with a revised PSVR2 > Wireless to PS5 Connection Slim Front Visor - (Pancake lenses will allow this) Ringless Controllers Pancake Lenses - (Wide sweet spot, clearer peripheral, pancake clarity) HDR QD-LED display - (No Mura, and smoother motion, while retaining great brightness) New Silicone padded Interface IPD Dial now displays numbers Colour Pass through Mixed Reality Feature Unique PSVR Eco System Built in audio speakers
I have to say that you have come along way as a VR content creator in my eyes. I used to feel like you were completely one sided. What I mean by that is you used to trash Meta left right and center for EVERY OTHER headset. I used to think how does he not know that these headsets won’t last or ever come out? I’ve really been enjoying the content you’ve been releasing and for that I’m subbing today. I look forward to your upcoming videos.
I gotta say firewall ultra had a major negative affect on psvr2 exclusives. I had to put that headset down after 10 minutes of playing it. Everything was bad. There's a standard to VR shooters and it's a not up for debate. Just like any flat screen shooter has these standards that we over look because it's as simple as blinking right. Aiming is everything. So I play my Quest 3 a ton more and can't get enough of pro Era 2 it gives me goosebumps Everytime I play it. Ghost of Tabor is a lil janky with item management. Not a fan of running around a huge bunker to manage things so I dont play it as much as when it first was on Q2. That's me though. The actual raids are still fantastic. I honestly think the move for PSVR2 is having COD, GTA, or siege make VR modes where everything is the flats screen, but actually gun play is motion control. Not easy to make happen but would be so revolutionary to current norms it should see an extreme change in sales and replayability. Thanks for reading if read ahhahah
From what I've heard, the Firewall team did fix a lot of the bugs and issues from launch, but they made certain design decisions that just rub most players the wrong way. It's not really built like most VR shooters. It's like they wanted to carry forward all the design decisions made in the first game, but the first game was built around the Aim controller and its limitations, so it just doesn't make sense on PSVR 2. It's a shame because from what I've seen it's the best looking shooter on PSVR 2 by far. If they'd designed it to actually play like a VR game and had a solid launch, it could've done much better (though it would still likely suffer from being exclusive to a platform with a small install base). Anyway if you already own it, it might be worth jumping back in to see how it was updated and changed.
Traded my psvr2 in for a quest 3, the graphics were great but once you beat like 3 games it’s over. Plus the quest is easier to wear for long periods in my opinion.
I have both headsets and I live my PSVR2 as its much better for VR games but I use my Quest 3 more as a multimedia device and for Mixed Reality games as I really like them as i can see what's going on and play at the same time Sony needs more games wheres blood and truth 2 wheres astrobots where's SuperHot VR that's why I haven't even played my PSVR2 in like a month or so and the only VR game I play on my Quest 3 is Asgards Wrath 2 as that game is crazy addictive
I don't have a PS5 or a PSVR2 but I think where Sony dropped the ball and screwed up with their PSVR2 release is that a lot of their VR content is on the previous PSVR1 and Sony should've made the PSVR2 backward compatible with those games optimized and updated for the newer headset. That would've given Sony a larger library and more competitive market at least for people who are new to VR and are getting the PSVR2. A lot of the games on PSVR1 are available both in the Quest library and on PCVR and those games give Quest users more quantity in gaming. PSVR2 users a stuck with a small library right now. Another thing I wanted to say is that I think that we're going a little too hard on Sony right now because their PSVR2 has only been out for a about a year unlike the Quest 2 that's been released since 2020, so the Quest 2 has had plenty of time to put out titles which are now backward compatible with the Quest 3, and it would be unfair to start writing Sony off. Sony's done pretty good for what they've put out on the PSVR2 in just one year, and they still have future releases that will be coming out. It's a bit too early to start jumping into conclusions, and that's probably why Sony is acting like they are unphased by all the whining. Let's also not forget that Sony is also running an entire flat-screen gaming console called Playstation 5 with a large ecosystem, so they also got that to carry on their shoulders. I think we need to be patient with the PSVR2, and I do think that they should've made the PSVR1 titles backwards compatible and optimized for the PSVR2, because that would've at least given them a bigger library at launch. Just my opinion, I'm not a fan boy. I have a Quest 2 and a RTX 3070, so I'm all good. All I've been doing is PCVR for the best quality in VR gaming that I could possibly experience, and I only do stand-alone with exclusives that I would like to play and can't play on PCVR, for instance Resident Evil 4. I'm not in no rush to upgrade to Quest 3 because I'm seeing PCVR quality on my Quest 2 right now, but eventually I will probably upgrade to the Quest 3, and I will only play stand-alone exclusives like Assassin's Creed Nexus and Asgard's Wrath 2, but PCVR will continually be my standard 😊

i think you missed that psvr comes to pc.
Only people that have never played VR will say that playing a VR version of a flat game is not worth the money. In my opinion I would always replay a game if it were remade specifically for VR and implemented well for VR.
I never made those statement. I said the ability to replay flat games doesn't sell hardware. Just like no one went out and bought a quest to play half-life 1 or doom 3
there is definitely a place for hybrids but its not for selling hardware@@tb1235
I did it with RE 4 VR. And since I just beat in it VR, I saw no reason to even bother with the new remake. It won't beat playing it in VR.

That's good for racing games like Gran Turismo, games where you play sitting down. But to me VR Will never become mainstream until it solves its biggest problem: walking. Walking ruins immersion in VR, the platform needs a contraption that transfers your natural walk into the game.
I just want Sony to step up and bring us AstroBot 2
That or a port of the 1st one atleast , I don't understand why they couldn't just enable them to work even without graphical overhauls etc
There are more, but Astrobot and Blood & Truth are two games I would love to see remade and/or get a sequel. But Sony just seem to have lost all interest in supporting the PSVR2.
Astrobot 2 will be announced or even released this year.

Exactly its worked great for Vision Pro but Sony can't be bothered.
I definitely waited for the VR release to play RE4 and RE8, and I'm really glad I did.
Same for both
Same here. !!! I actually tried playing re4 flat after VR and the experience without VR is honestly shit for me as a VR gamer
@@waleedisnowagamecatspecifi1499 shout out to the white tiger
This is the exception not the norm
@Gamingwithmatteo311 yes it is but it should be the norm as it is better. If in this matter we stick to ground realities then we all will be playing games like gorilla tag instead of re4 remake. We should be rooting and striving towards the best quality. Without psvr2 that wont be possible and we hope sony starts talking about their plans
Just got my Quest 3 yesterday, I cant believe I played on that blurry Quest 2 for so long. Im excited for the Quest platform!
I keep hearing this. The wait for me to upgrade to a Quest 3 is killing me haha.

@@jeffghant4760 PSVR2 is the least blurry out of all of my headsets. Buy the global cluster headstrap.
Makes a world of difference.
@jeffghant4760 not anymore, but it did at first. Found out I had the sweet spot a little off, and even a little off centered messes with the clarity. One big downside of fresnel lenses.
@match30xgaming haven't tried that one yet, been mostly messing with Pavlov and Contractors on my Quest.
It's not the launch window for Quest 2 and that's even higher.
Unfortunately with just how consumerism along with society is, we will always take our purchases personally. We want to feel like the direction we took with whatever it is we bought, was the correct one.
I used to have a problem with choice and always get buyers remorse lol

I traded my PSVR2 for a Quest 3 because of the lack of support. But man, the Quest 3 has some rough textures. I know it’s mobile. But I expected at least Switch level textures and lighting.

@@JBBost I definitely want to at some point.
There are plenty of things I can add like lack or software returns but I didn't get into it too deeply
I broke down and got a Quest 3 lately so I can play standalone VR games, not to mention the Lone Echo and Asgard's Wrath series, the various Meta Star Wars VR games, etc.
don't forget skyrim VR with mods....it is so...immersive (with mods)
The good thing about quest is a c compatibility, and this is open to a huge door for pc apps and games
I've had PSVR2 since day one and it's jaw-dropping and next generation VR and worth every penny
@@mrreefer6792 no argument there. I honestly don't understand that there are so many people out there who have never even tried vr.
I'd get a wide sweet spot, pancake clarity, buttery smooth CRT-like motion, no mura or god rays, minimal glare, NO cable, no ring'd controllers and it's easily more comfortable.
The ideas are there but yeah, sales do run the world
Hoping for the best for both systems! Great video, man!
I've been a what you couls call a Sony fanboy for years. I decided on a quest 3 for myself this Christmas over the psvr2 having owned the psvr
Whilst I enjoy the quest 3, I can definitely see the hardwares limitations.
Love the channel BTW really good work
If its AAA experiences you want, psvr2 is currently winning in that department
Quest 3 and 3 for the win!
Sony just needs Vr modes for all its main Ips even if its just adding 3d to non vr games i.e uevr etc ....
I had both and kept the PSVR2 because it was infinitely more comfortable but for most people the Quest just makes more sense.
In Sony's defense meta doesn't sell solo controllers either but it should be warrantied. Combine that with the no game return policy, ugh
I was one who suffered with blurry visuals and wasn’t really
happy with it.
Sony not working on a God of War VR game is insane to me.
If GTA 6 offers VR mode at launch for PSVR2...That alone will change everything. You want killer App for VR? Nothing is bigger than GTA.
Let's see what happens a year from now
I just don't understand where this idea is coming from.
It's. Just. Not. Going. To. Happen.
GTA 6 is definitely going to be in VR... on PC unofficially by the community.
sony needs to incentivise big budget VR titles, even if they lose money in the short term. Meta invested into echo (which is gone now unfortunately), population one, asgards wrath 2 etc which all drove hype for their systems. the nintendo switch released with 2 games in 2017 and sold like crazy because one of those games was BOTW. sony releases a cool headset with no games and no one cares.
Unfortunately devs have been saying Sony is no longer finding third party titles
While the PSVR2 install base is obviously much smaller, it is also true that it has much higher attach ratios compared to the Quest.
Plenty of people I know get the Quest for Beat Saber and that's about it.
Do you have any stats to back this up?
I bought PS5 and PS VR2 together. Coming from Quest 2. I lasted 4 months before I sold both ps5 and vr2. Bad comfort, horrible display choice with blurry, murra and reprojection and most game launches in horrible state. Quest 3 now is my daily driver, love that thing.
No bashing , your freakin awesome.
Thanks.
Thanks for the support. I'm happy to help any way possible
I love my psvr2. But you make very fair points.
Great review! I don’t touch horror or driving games, and I only like only a few shooters, so for me, PSVR2 needs more AAA games that are not those.
Quest 3 and pc combo is the best .
I solved not knowing which to get by getting both. While technically quest 3 is for wife but she lets me use it once in a while
Great video, I loved it...!
Completely agree.
this is what we need
I finally bought myself a PS5 in anticipation of the (then) upcoming PSVR2 release. But when I saw the available content at launch, I decided to wait. I'm glad I did. With the exception of a few exclusives, I have access to most of the same games via Quest or PCVR.
Yes on Quest, but often cut down version as the PSVR2 get the better version. Quest is mobile phone tech so limited on what it can do.
Thanks for the video, really appreciate your insights into the current state of VR. I can't wait for the next one!
The main reason I don't care much for vr anymore like I did before is simply because there just is so very little software made for the hardware that justifies the price of admission
Pc, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo…
Picking a side is just plain stupid.
@@Deadlines-Xyou don't make any sense
I honestly think Apple will be a major spark for VR. VR needs to be popular mainstream tech for other things than gaming, otherwise it won't explode. Once you have those computing headsets like Apple, Samsung etc, the install base will grow massively
You buying an apple headset? Probably not lol
Vision Pro isn’t VR and the average person isn’t dropping $3500 all the headset.
@@lorddrifter7296 He probably will when they release version 2 or 3.
RE4 Original - VR Edition. Meta Quest 2 and 3 are my choice! :D
30 or 40 -1 Sony getting whipped , If only they opened up the PSVR2 to the PC community. It's got the specs that Sim racers would love
this is literally ALL they had to do....just make it pc compatible..couldve competed with Meta and Valve but nope...and I love Sony but they are really dropping the ball with this for absolutely no reason
just bought a psvr2 , I'm new to vr and I'm trying not to throw up after 15 min, but It is some amazing , I need to beat this motion sickness.
Are you really pissing ppl off LMAO?!? Your content is amazing and very informative to me. Keep the haters coming 🤷🏻♂️
Good points the lack of communication from sony is worrying i am a bit worried they are going to give up on vr hopefully when jim leaves if it's too late they make more ads i think i haard once jim never believed in vr.
Sadly this makes it more and more likely we won’t ever see a PSVR3
I’m in love with PSVR2. Finding the meaning of life before the hmds sweet spot, not being able to return games I didn’t like, no PC support and forever tethered, no control over reprojection. God I love it 😍
Lol
These plenty of them. Most people who emotionally attached themselves to their purchase
This is becoming more of a let’s push meta quest content channel instead of a vr in general channel. If we want to push vr in general we would be pushing ALL systems and not talking about how bad one system is selling and leaning people toward another, seems like some sponsored meta content 🤔
best VR channel

I waited for the VR release to play RE4 and RE8, and I'm really glad I did.
@@toddgraves3447 I haven't finished because I just keep playing the uncharted rifts
@Gamingwithmatteo311 yeah I was the opposite. I got into the uncharted rift a bit, but I barely touched it overall because I was focusing on the story. I'm probably going to play a bit more of the rift now.
Matteo... spot on.
Here's what I'd love to see with a revised PSVR2 >
Wireless to PS5 Connection
Slim Front Visor - (Pancake lenses will allow this)
Ringless Controllers
Pancake Lenses - (Wide sweet spot, clearer peripheral, pancake clarity)
HDR QD-LED display - (No Mura, and smoother motion, while retaining great brightness)
New Silicone padded Interface
IPD Dial now displays numbers
Colour Pass through
Mixed Reality Feature
Unique PSVR Eco System
Built in audio speakers
I got a lot of 2nd hand info about firewall that I can't confirm but nothing about the project seemed to go well
From what I've heard, the Firewall team did fix a lot of the bugs and issues from launch, but they made certain design decisions that just rub most players the wrong way.
Anyway if you already own it, it might be worth jumping back in to see how it was updated and changed.
this is definitely part of it for sure but it goes a lot deeper than just that@@GreyMatterShades
Traded my psvr2 in for a quest 3, the graphics were great but once you beat like 3 games it’s over. Plus the quest is easier to wear for long periods in my opinion.
it sucks and it isnt just PSVR2, PS5 too isnt getting much support lately sony is getting complacent with their microtransaction money
So here's the thing about your opinions... That's obviously what I'm here for! Bring em
Sadly this really makes it more and more likely we won’t ever see a PSVR3 😢
