8:10 to your right there was the birthplace of Rani Lakshmi Bai, she was the most brave queen who fought against East India Comp. with her baby on her back.
Having travelled in north and south India by bicycle, there is one thing I've learned. If you have an electrical or mechanical issue with anything, motorcycle, car, truck etc, just stop someone and ask if they know anyone who can help. In my experience, there has always been someone who can help, or at least point you to someone who can help. The rest stop would have been an ideal place to ask. People in India love to help, it is part of the culture.
Same in Vietnam, I had a flat tyre so I stopped and looked left and there were a bunch of people fixing bikes, this is common place in Asia, pay them a little money and they will fix it and possibly offer something nice to eat or drink

I have been holding my breath throughout each of your India videos.... the driving there is mad. Kudos Marianne for your confidence in driving in India...I don't know that I would even be able to get out of the car park there.

Wonderful videos. Love your lady driver. Incidentally, Vrindavan where Lord Krishna lived is the holiest place in India. I first came to India in 1981 and I'm a Hare Krishna devotee. Keep enjoying your travels 😊🙏
I had a car with driver a few years ago to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal from Delhi and back, on the way home his horn stopped working and he announced he could not continue without a horn, I opened the bonnet and cleaned the earth wire connection and we were back on our way....
I did likewise back in 1989. Cost me £40 for the return trip (5 hours each way). Would have been £50 with aircon but l chose the cheaper option. Big mistake, and it was in May which is the hottest month.🥴
Have travelled in a van in Thailand and instead of a coventional horn, its air horn had Police, Ambulance and Fire appliance sirens. Half way, we stopped so the driver could refill his " horn" with more air. Its surprising how many vehicles move aside for a sirdn rather than conventional horn.
Only tune in now and again but love your adventures Our Daughter has travelled all through Indian wish she had shared videos like you x so interesting..

Your sense of accomplishment is well deserved, and we get to come along and enjoy it with you. Amazing. Hope you get the horn sorted. If not, then add some of the truck style air horns as an upgrade 😂
After four years in Sri Lanka, wearing out two horns, I learned that there has been developed extra strong horns for the Indian / Sri Lankan market. They’re a bit more expensive, but last longer.
Marianne, was the excitement to use the roadside toilet justified? I’m dying to know 😂. You are just awesome! We are exhausted just just watching you, I imagine Chris has his foot constantly on that invisible brake. Can’t wait till the next episode x
So Cool you will be doing a dinner and dance in Telford, Shropshire, on my only trip to the UK, I stayed with Helen and Tom Shropshire, (near Leistershire), very distant relatives. Enjoy your drive! For evacuating the Gulf Coast of Texas there are several highway sections that are designated for an extra lane heading away from the coast/ but only for HURICANE evacuation times (not an every day thing), wild driving there in India keep having fun!
Varanasi looked amazing!! The Indian people I've met all seem very friendly and engaging, seems the same in your videos. After they get over the disorienting sight of a couple Brits rocking up in a campervan, anyway! 😁 Trudy hadn't done that much shouting in all her life combined, and she lost her voice! That must have been a stressful few hours drive. Well done!! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Yoooo... Welcome to my City Varanasi.... Yup 😋 ✌️ ❤️ It's really a holy place in the world where you can visit... You'll going to feel different vibes & energy in this magnificent city. Well there are so many places here to visit that is... As you have already visited the Ganga River. & and other places are Sarnath, BHU, BLW, Ramnagar fort etc.. Your comment about if road two way brought to mind the brilliant attitude here in Thailand, even got asked it during my test, question when is it safe to go the wrong way down a one way road, answer when it is safe to do so, pure logic, brilliant.
😂 madness! Seemed to be the same in Cyprus when we were there. Didn't seem to be so much about if it was safe, just about if that was the way they wanted to go!
Well one of my questions answered thank you, (A) Too hot to sleep in the van and (B) security wise as it is your only means of transport and your home on wheels, of course you are going to play it safe. Enjoying every single moment with you and the people you meet on your travels. Health@Happiness to you both.
It is common for the horn on these vans to have issues from time to time due to where it is located, near front wheel arch area under air filter side and bolted to side wing, the cables often get dirty/corroded from water spray on the roads, cleaning the pins can sometimes help, the other issue can be with the steering wheel, lack of contact with horn because it needs more grease, either way hopefully a simple fix for you. It certainly looks hectic in India.
16:10 when you got in to the place where Aarti was to happen, did they ask for any once's cast? No. The cast is not from the religion. It was enforced by the British. People stuck onto it since initially the once marked higher cast was benefiting and now the once supposed to be lower cast are getting benefits.
If you ever go to India again then I humbly suggest you go to Rishikesh where they have a fantastic arati to the Ganga at the Parmarth Nike tan ashram. Also, why not visit Vrindavan and ISKCON's Temple there, not with Trudy though 😊
When we were in India our driver said: whilst driving in India you need three things…good brakes, a good horn, and good luck! My heart went into panic when Trudy lost her horn. Kudos to you…we’d never drive in India!
I'm so glad that tread the globe is going to go on . I was wondering what was going to happen when you got back to England. Great job driving Marianne Lori

31:46 see, there is a sense of understanding grew up among the drivers that how to drive. In India, the only rule of driving is to keep moving forward towards your destination either slow or fast and adjust the path as available. Just keep informing the surroundings that you are moving forward and use honk, tail tights or anything just to make sure the driver in front of you knew that where you want to go. It is as simple as that.
29:53 that means If you want to bypass that truck, first honk-wait-only then if they give side to you to go then go, don't be in hurry or take shortcut, inform first by honking or else it may lead to an accident! Also, someware you see "Use Dipper at Night" means use projector headlights to inform the front vehicle to get a pass.
Loving your adventure. I live in India so can answer your question about "wait for side". What you do is make a friendly couple of pips of the horn, and a good driver will then signal with his hand out of the window to wait a little, then wave you past when the road is clear.
Wait for side may well mean what we do here in West Africa. Outside indicator on means do not overtake me as it's dangerous, inside indicator means it's safe to pass ... works brilliantly here, don't remember seeing it in India but I didn't drive myself there! Varanasi, home of my worst food poisoning/bacterial infection and 28 years later I still suffer on occasion 🙃 Why aren't you using iOverlander app? Brilliant to find garages, hotels, park ups ...

Another bit of advice. In India you need a good powerful horn. Also it is always advisable to drive close to the road divider on the right. This way people can only overtake on your left
Omg!!! Watching the later part of this video. My husband and I were lying in bed quite literally "Horning" for you all. We are quite exhausted now.😅 Hope it gets fix soon, so Trudy gets back her voice and we can resume to just holding our breath when you are out in it all driving!! . 😅😅 Sending you all love from Hawkes Bay, NZ xxx

Spent years travelling India in the eighties Always a fascinating edge of the seat exiting adventure no other country comes close to this experience Totally love these videos thanks for bringing back the memories😎
Greetings, 'Khira' is Cucumber only and "wait for side" means that before you try to overtake the truck wait till the truck driver gives you some space by moving to left. It was usually used when roads were not having dividers and only a line divided the to and fro traffic.
Extraordinary. There are no road laws in India. Both sides of each road, including motorways, are fair game for anyone! Lucknow is the centre of Muglai Cuisine if you can spare the time. Also the Residency is very haunting if you can find a guide to show you. An epic site in the struggle for Indian independence.
I remember reading the "Lonely Planet Guide to India" before we went to live there - & I'll never forget the Author(s) said "You're better off without brakes than without a horn in India"!!! lol

In India it is always a good idea to drive behind a truck or any other big vehicle since they make way for you.
Indan road rules
1. there are no rules
2. the horn is a must for overtaking.
3. The bigger the vehicle the more right of way it has.
4. Flashing head lights from oncoming traffic means get out of the way I'm coming through.

31:03 - there are relatively fewer accidents coz the traffic doesn't move too fast.
It's just so crowded that traffic just moves slower.
Always a fascinating edge of the seat exiting adventure no other country comes close to this experience
Totally love these videos thanks for bringing back the memories😎
What’s the name of the song in the background? It’s very nice.
I don’t think I’d ever want to travel to India, but all the people I’ve met from India are the sweetest, kindest folks.
Watch videos which show you sights sounds, people and foods of India, and explore the culture.
You are absolutely wrong...dear
Greetings, 'Khira' is Cucumber only and "wait for side" means that before you try to overtake the truck wait till the truck driver gives you some space by moving to left. It was usually used when roads were not having dividers and only a line divided the to and fro traffic.
Extraordinary. There are no road laws in India. Both sides of each road, including motorways, are fair game for anyone! Lucknow is the centre of Muglai Cuisine if you can spare the time. Also the Residency is very haunting if you can find a guide to show you. An epic site in the struggle for Indian independence.
Morning from.the UK Chris and Mariann brilliant episode theres nowhere quite like India stay safe guys💙❤
I remember reading the "Lonely Planet Guide to India" before we went to live there - & I'll never forget the Author(s) said "You're better off without brakes than without a horn in India"!!! lol
I think this was not the best time to visit india when temperature is above 40°C but please take care and best of luck for your future journey❤
When you have electronic problems, you can try to disconnect the battery for 15 min. (minus first). Sometimes it helps. Greets from Germany! 😉
