I had one of the best car break-down experiences of my life in Sioux Falls. I was driving my 1974 Honda Civic across the country, and as I approached Sioux Falls, a loud noise started from the engine area. I pulled into the Honda dealer, and they quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad alternator. The service guy told me to go have some lunch and then come back. So I walked across the street to a little coffee shop and had lunch. By the time lunch was finished, and I returned to the dealership, my car was fixed. The price was reasonable, and I was on the road immediately. It was as if I had only stopped for lunch and continued on my journey. The customer service was the best I had ever experienced from any dealership service center. It was an excellent experience!
Such beautiful landscape! Next time you’re there it would be interesting to learn about the Indigenous culture in the area that has so much rich history and modern impact as well
Everytime I see Mount Rushmore I think of Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason in "North By Northwest"! Cool trivia note, in the scene where Cary is about to be shot in the tourist lodge cafeteria, before the gun goes off there is a young boy 👦 sitting at a table behind him that has heard how loud the gun is in a previous take and covers his ears before the gun goes off! It was the best take of the other characters and they were close to finishing and running out of time so they left in in the movies 🎥 final cut!
I love your filming and editing, Alison's goofy comments and the way Eric looks at her when she makes them (so me and my husband, he's the goof). And I didn't know South Dakota was this interesting. Would love to visit. Love from Oregon.
I saw Wall Drug and I was like, hold on... I live in Australia and have never been to South Dakota, why do I know Wall Drug?? Then I realised that Kara and Nate went there haha. Whew, I wasn't going crazy. Love this video. I loved all the animals. I am putting South Dakota on my list of states to visit!
South Dakota is tough for an international visit because it's in the middle, and most of what people want to see is on either side, or Texas. (Like Australia, the US is a big place. Tough to see it all.)
Sioux Falls is actually named for the Sioux Tribe Indians babe just so ya know. 😀 I have a very good friend that has a daughter named Dakota Sioux they named her that because she is part of the Sioux Indian tribe
Thank you for showcasing my family's homeland! I am of German heritage and my ancestors settled in eastern South Dakota. More Americans really need to explore our great country, and learn of its heritage. Keep on travelin'!
@@lilredwagon5311 I am aware of that. I do genealogy and a number of my ancestors were Germans from Russia. It's an interesting and arduous journey they took to end up in America. I am thankful they were strong enough individuals to do that.
We drove through SD on our move west last year. It was a great place to visit. You missed the Crazy Horse monument. It’s also worth a visit as well as the Corn Palace in Mitchell SD.
As someone who has lived in South Dakota my whole life I’ve only been to the badlands about four times. I live near Sioux Falls so it’s a five hour drive to the hills. South Dakota is a massive state land wise and has so many fun places to wander.
Despite being born and growing up in the California Bay Area I know next to nothing about the states as I left when I was 17. Your videos have been very educational for me. South Dakota looks more beautiful than I would have imagined. As for the food - I wanted to rip that chicken wing out of your hand!!!! Eric's brisket also looked very nice - for some reason the butchers don't understand what a brisket cut is - and it's impossible to find it in the supermarkets here in the UK. They have different cuts and names - it gets very frustrating sometimes. However, lovely video as usual. Thank you!!!
The one time I left my phone upstairs I get a notification from the power couple of RUclips that they made a video. South Dakota looked very peaceful and great shots n editing, thanks for taking us along on your journey. I'm glad no1 fell in, Eric has had some mishaps over the years (tailbone comes to mind) and excellent food there in SD.
This video is sponsored by South Dakota Tourism and they used stock clips from a website called Storyblocks for the Badlands and the Mount Rushmore drone shots. Look in the bottom right corner when those scenes come up you will see a black S inside a yellow circle with ‘Storyblocks’ next to it.
The falls actually are pretty dangerous in bad weather and I’m glad when they visited the water was down and they could explore. As someone who lives nearby I can speak to the fact that people have fallen before.
This video was worth the wait! Loved that you got to live your best Little House on the Prairie life! As a fellow millennial girl I get it! Loved the books growing up! 💛
You guys are amazing! I didn't think the foreign countries could be beat but your USA tour is fantastic! Your videography is beyond amazing! How did you capture those amazing animals? I've watched all of your videos over the last few years and I must say that this one and the France video are two of the best that you all have done. Your b roll and shot selection is on point Eric! Very much worth the wait! And, of course Allison's comic relief transitions...so perfect! Very, very well done you two!
Also this video is sponsored by South Dakota Tourism and they used stock clips from a website called Storyblocks for the Badlands and the Mount Rushmore drone shots. They film their own work so well that those shots have confused quite a few people in these comments thinking they did something illegal by using their own drone! Look in the bottom right corner when those scenes come up you will see a black S inside a yellow circle with ‘Storyblocks’ next to it.
Thanks so much for the comment, Jimmy! We actually thought about the France trip a lot during this one (one of our favorite videos too!) so we're super happy this topped the list along with that one! Of course it always makes our job easier a lot easier when the locations are amazing like here in SD and southern France 😍
Oh jeez, we know we say that a lot, but 29?!! I think we may need some help. And I think you guys (< see what I did there 🤣) might need a trip to the hospital if you play that game 😮😅
It started as a drug store in Wall, South Dakota. Started advertising 'Free Ice Water', and it took off. It helped that it was on the only road in the pre-interstate days to get to Mt Rushmore from the east.
What? @ 0:54 - is that little cutie real? The slow-mo footage of the ducks is absolutely incredible - the detail in their muscles as they dip in the water, beautiful. There's so much cool stuff in this video, but the wildlife stole the show! Reminder to self: do not watch T.E.A. when hungry!
Oh boy, those prairie dogs were the highlight of the trip for us (and the bison and the sheep and all the other animals 🤣) but we couldn't get over how cute and ridiculous those little guys were. They just sat around eating peanuts without a care in the world 😍
My family took that same road trip in the 1960s, when I was a kid. Wall Drug was just a medium sized "drug store" with a lunch counter and a few, generic souvenirs. Pulling over to gaze at wildlife wasn't high on my dad's list, but we did stop when a herd of bison decided to cross the highway. Great video, guys!
3-4 years ago I watched a video y'all did in Austin Texas, when I lived in Sioux Falls. Now I live in Austin and watching a video y'all are doing on my hometown of Sioux Falls. Amazing how life and events can be circular. Y'all are awesome and do an amazing job. ❤️
Did you see the jackalope statue at Wall Drug or the Crazy Horse monument on the other side of Mount Rushmore? It's interesting to know that the Badlands were once under water.
So many beautiful sights to see! My husband and I are truck drivers and have driven through all the states. Thank you for showing us some of the things we have never been able to get due to the size of our semi.

This reminds me of our road trip last year - except my inlaws live on the MN/SD border so I've been to Sioux Falls and we just hightailed it to the Badlands and Wall Drugs before overnighting in Rapid City. (I'd also like to note it was 90 when we hit the road on Sunday and left Rapid early because of the severe winter storm weather that was coming on Tuesday. In September.)
Right?! We actually watched that movie at the end our trip not realizing where it took place and were freaking out that she had gone to and stayed at the exact same places as us!! Crazy!!

It is so crazy to see it from the Drone height and I think that is such a beautiful place at sunset. ❤ Thank you guys for taking me back! Really enjoyed this ❤ That old broken down saloon looking area would be great for photo shoots!
South Dakota is such a beautiful place to visit and spend a week. Another fun fact, but don't know if they still do it. In the 70s they used to have custom posters put up in many surrounding states, "X miles to Wall Drug". I remember them in the store windows in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
When I first saw the badlands, I cried because of its grandeur. When y'all get a chance you should go to Glacier National Park and go on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Y’all should have gone to Crazy Horse. It’s still being worked on and is absolutely stunning. Bigger than Mount Rushmore! I love going though. Nice quick drive from CO.
Crazy Horse is by far my favorite visit in the hills. I’ve gone three times and it’s still the highlight of my trip. The bud ride close to the mountain is a must go. Everyone is so knowledgeable at the center too. I just adore it
If you ever make it back to the area, you definitely need to see the Minuteman Missile museum, about 30 miles east of Wall. We finally made it out to the area last summer.
Kudos on the wildlife shots! Starting with the duck sinking into the water slowly to the shot of the lone buffalo playing in the dirt and the final clip of the prairie dog having a snack. Loved them all!
The donkeys are burros from what we were told. I guess a few years ago you used to be able to ride them and they were set free (hense the reason they are so friendly)

Crazy Horse was my favorite. We also dug for fossils. There is a bunch to do...
Thanks for your video for the South Dakota Tourist Board. You've come a long way from your independent videos about places to eat and foreign cities.
Congratulations !
Good eats, great scenery, and great commentators! Love the video guys, keep it up! 😊
I love see you guys visiting the places here in The upper Midwest. I’m from MN and growing up our big camping trip were to SD

The Crazy Horse Monument is a must see
