Welcome to South Dakota, state #34 in our journey to all 50 states in a year (2021)! When you think of South Dakota you probably think of tractors, cold weather, Mount Rushmore, and vast, open landscapes filled with nothing… and you wouldn’t necessarily be wrong! But we’re here to show you that there’s a whole lot more to South Dakota than those stereotypes! Per usual, we only had one day to explore, so we focused our efforts on the quaint town of Sioux Falls, and we can promise you that it did not disappoint! From an AMAZING stay at Hotel on Phillips to the delicious pastries at CH Patisserie to the perfect summer evening at Strawbale Winery, we couldn’t have asked for a more memorable time in the Mount Rushmore State!

We’re Matt and Nat, a part time travel couple based out of Nashville, TN. Like everyone else, 2020 turned our world upside down. With more time on our hands than ever and multiple international trips canceled, we were left wondering what our 2021 travel plans would look like.

I’m not going to lie, living in Sioux Falls (Sufu as we call it) my entire life, I was expecting an absolute roasting of a review in this video. I’m so glad you guys didn’t just go to the typical South Dakota tourist destinations and showed a side of SD not many people know, so thank you for that!

I FREAKING LOVE MY HOMETOWN!! My favorite thing in the summer is the Moonlight Movies at the statue of David park downtown! Loved it since I was a kid and now I have a baby and can’t wait to bring him there and have the best time rolling down the hill while watching a cute Disney movie!

We’re road tripping to Montana and stayed in Sioux Falls last night. Thanks to your video, we got to enjoy the fried chicken and mashed potato wrap at Phiilips Avenue Diner and got holiday macarons at CH Patisserie. 😊
I've lived near sioux falls for over ten years. Outside of downtown the expansion is wild. Year after year I've watched as farm lands disappear and become replaces with new housing, apartments, and business. It's been fun to watch over the years as Sioux Falls, Tea, and Harrisburg gradually converge on one another and will soon become connected.

I love to travel but am always glad to be back home in Sioux Falls SD. I have lived here all my life & am so proud of our downtown. Love to spend time there. Love this video! I have lived in South Dakota my whole life, (and visit souix falls often) so this felt so special! If you guys ever come back here make sure you check out the black hills and De Smet. Both are beautiful and full of sooo much history! De Smet also has homesteads and is where the famed writer Laura Ingalls Wilder lived for part of her life!

We are from Sioux Falls and did a staycation here in sumner 2021. We are homebodies, so making ourselves get out and see our own backyard was awesome. We did the SculptureWalk, CH Patisserie, and tons of other stuff. We just went to Minervas a few weeks ago-and it was one of the best dates we’ve ever done!❤️

It's a bummer that Paha Sapa(the Black Hills) are on the opposite side of the state, it's beautiful out there as well! It's a 5-6 hour drive... depending on how heavy your foot is lol.
Jazz Fest is the best event in my opinion.

I grew up in SF. You would not believe what Falls Park looked like back in the 60's, 70's & 80's. It sure wasn't a tourist attraction :)

Great video showing off Sioux Falls! I haven't been in that building since I worked there when it was Great Western Bank. It looks like they did an incredible job on the remodel. If you like changes in seasons, Sioux Falls really is a great place to live. Small town vibe with bigger city ammeneties.

sioux falls is okay but the black hills and Rapid City is where it’s at, the most peaceful beautiful place to live and visit, the hikes and views are amazing and deadwood

With your sparkling personalities You 2 should do a marketing and promotional ad campaign for the city of Sioux Falls .
I grew up in Sioux Falls and the history of the downtown is quite interesting. Minerva's restaurant was once known as 'Lemonds Finer Foods' back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's, which was owned by my Father.
The Falls was actually a run down place back 50 plus years ago until the city had the sense to clean it up and make it into the beautiful place it is today. Not to often that you'll see water falls that close to a DT.
The Hotel on Phillip's was actually a bank for many years, as you showed with the vault and safe lounge and it also has a couple of bullet holes in the front of the building from gangster holdups from the dirty thirties I believe.
Anyway, your guys presentation was excellent and I am glad you enjoyed Sioux Falls. 😎🇺🇸👍🥃
P.S. You 2 might try visiting Rapid City, SD. You'll love the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and all the tourist destinations and dont forget the famous 'Wall Drug' if you visit the area 🇺🇸

The arc of dreams lights up at night. Falls park is a winter wonderland of lights during the Christmas season- day after thanksgiving through January 7.

You should check out Rapid City...its about twice as small as Sioux Falls(however is growing quickly and targeted to have a matching population to Sioux Falls within the next couple years). Any way Rapid is on the edge of the black hills and is only 30 minutes from mt. rushmore
Nat, yer right, it is pronounced Mini-Haha! I remember my parents talking and hearing the word Minnehaha (I grew up partly in Upper Michigan near Lake Superior) and I thought it was pretty cool sounding. Apparently, it's from Longellow's epic poem "Song of Hiawatha" and it's a fictional Native American woman and her name translates roughly to "water fall".

As a local saying the county name is easy spelling it takes a second of though. As for the city I've also heard alot of people pronounce it si-ox - falls.
I always find it interesting to see these short glimpse videos of people visiting here.

We have a similar tea shop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I went in the other day and bought chamomile and ginger. I’m becoming more of a tea drinker but still love my coffee. Another fun vlog. 😃🇺🇸

Lured along by quaint locale/as that’s where I’m from/but with surprisingly detail/shows Phillips Avenue as street redone/made over into a drive to walk/pause to admire Art, Minerva for dinner/turns out to be quite The Place/despite winters so cold as to freeze the soul/summers hotter than that Place for Sinners/all told through a narration of sticky treacle/what’s to say but good work/make a bank into a bar, switching places/as it were, Harry’s to fine dining/no more waiting for Godot, soon coming/treasure hidden from view, besting uncapped usury. We were in Sioux Falls in the spring of last year. While there we visited Falls Park and yes, it's very beautiful! We also went to The Japanese Terrance and The Butterfly House and Aquarium. Next time you visit I highly recommend you visit those two places!!
