Good news that your sister-n-law is recovering. Looks like you have things in good order for the first pour. I think you made a good decision in pouring the pool first. In case you run across any issues pouring the pool you can make adjustments and know what to expect when you starting pouring the house walls. You'll be good and dialed in by then.

Looks good, Geoff. BTW, thanks for the PSA. My grandfather died from melanoma 99 years ago and because of the effect it had on my dad, skincare was ALWAYS important. My husband was diagnosed with it and by finding it early, he has been deemed to be free. Doesn't stop the annual skin checks and he still checks in with the oncologist. Glad Liz came out okay with her surgery. Just keep in mind that just because her surgery lasted longer than estimated, doesn't mean there were complications or problems. It's just that her surgery took that long. Hugs to you & Jackie. You're in my thoughts & prayers.

You are learning how you are going to build more houses. By your second or third, you will fly past it. I am so sure that these negative naysayers who keep posting framed their first house in 24 hours all while learning how to build. DO NOT LISTEN to these people. They are ridiculous. It’s also how they make themselves feel better about themselves. Validates their existence.

Geoff is you neighbors putting up the fence to stop the duck mafia from doing raid on his land an putting out hits on his stock?
As Robert Frost wrote in his poem:
    Mending Wall
Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
    And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone,
But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
No one has seen them made or heard them made,
But at spring mending-time we find them there.
    I let my neighbor know beyond the hill;
And on a day we meet to walk the line
And set the wall between us once again.
We keep the wall between us as we go.
To each the boulders that have fallen to each.
And some are loaves and some so nearly balls
We have to use a spell to make them balance:
‘Stay where you are until our backs are turned!’
We wear our fingers rough with handling them.
Oh, just another kind of out-door game,
One on a side. It comes to little more:
There where it is we do not need the wall:
He is all pine and I am apple orchard.
My apple trees will never get across
And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.
He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
‘Why do they make good neighbors? Isn’t it
Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That wants it down.’ I could say ‘Elves’ to him,
But it’s not elves exactly, and I’d rather
He said it for himself. I see him there
Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top
In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.
He moves in darkness as it seems to me,
Not of woods only and the shade of trees.
He will not go behind his father’s saying,
And he likes having thought of it so well
He says again, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

@20:00 Maybe it was a small gator, I hope not, carry binoculars ,if it is call the authorities or take care of it some other way, if it's a snake or giant turtle pick him off with a 22. Don't say it cant be a gator until you're absolutely sure somebody could've thode one in the swamp because he was too big fer a pet. I seen a gator survive a frozen pond a inch of ice and the onliest thing stickin up was his nose. The farmer dragged him out didn't move nary a inch until he got warmed up in the barn. Then he came alive and the farmer shot him it was terrible the critter almost got his leg It was 8 years ago, they cut it open and found a duck and parts of deer, yep. I think it was northeast texas. Heck it was TV . oh well how'd ya like my hill billy talk, LOL.

Keep plugging away at it. Nice to see you take mental health days! They are important!! Same with the skin care. I have Actinic Keratosis. I get the darks hard spots on my skin and unfortunately a couple were malignant. It’s a very survivable & slow growing cancer so really is nothing to worry about as long as each is caught early. I drew a crappy genetic card,, haha. Oh well. Like I say, take care of yourself.
That fence will be nice! I have called the welded wire, game fence, over the years. Like you say, it’s what you grow up with. Once you have the pool going, you will need 3 separate “hot” wires above the fence, about 8” apart,,, then a couple of random trip “hot” wires between there and the pool hidden in the grass!! 😂😂. You will hear the intruders eventually!! Haha. Had our first bear of the season out here at the cabins. Heard something like I’m describing, but a low, loud HUFF vs a high pitched yelp! I haven’t seen the bear, but I know which one he is. It’s a decent sized grizzly (500 - 550 lbs, really big for our area. They max out at maybe 700 here, but that is very rare). He has a bad disposition but avoids people. Not sure why he tried to come into the yard, maybe we had some smelly garbage. Hauled that out today. It’s in bear proof buns, but not much is too bear proof when they get that size. He should move onto the open plains here right away. Loads of gophers out already. You can watch a bear, especially grizzlies, spend a whole day just eating those things like popcorn!! They get digging & at a certain point the gophers try to defend themselves,,,. Oops! 😮 another one goes down! Haha. Still a bit of snow here but 10 miles west & farther is melted!

@@BealyGood - I have seen them many times over the years, but not a lot of individual bears. They sometimes don’t range too far, then there’s one like this guy, but the older they get. He is prime for this area so he ranges quite far I suspect. The locals say he goes through spring & fall. Put to the plains in spring & back into the mountains in the fall. Saw him in the fall and he is almost black. Makes him scary looking, but he was about 300 yards away so just at that safe distance if you have a vehicle nearby. I did. It gets your heart going regardless !! Haha. The black bears don’t have near the effect, but are potentially more dangerous than an older boar grizzly. They can occasionally get predatious although, ironically the most recent predacious attack was a couple of falls ago by a very large boar grizzly about 125 miles north of our cabins. He got two very careful & experienced campers!! Their only mistake was the time of year & concentration of bears in that area. Everything else they did was perfect & they had done similarly in other years with no encounter at all. Unfortunate. It’s something I think about, but I don’t worry too much. I carry bear spray.
